If I could give a Big fat ZERO I would in an instant. Beware this "doctor" especially if you get sent here for a workers comp injury. From my first "visit" this guy was awful, didn't want to help me and kept insisting that my employer was "on him" to update my work status. In the beginning he wanted to just declare me completely disabled. After I questioned if he was gonna actually examine me or do anything to help before deciding that he got testy but then agreed to ask for some injections (herniated disc injury), some acupuncture and a consultation with a surgeon and continued followup "visits". And I do say "visits" because they made me drive 40min to and 45min back to his Huntington Beach location only to wait in the lobby until I got placed in a room have him walk in do nothing anf walk out, 5mins max was the amount of time I ever spent being seen by him. Then this negligent sell out cancels both infections, even after I drove there get them because he thought I didn't need them on the days I drove there. This after just having told him and his nursed YES I STILL Feel pain especially when working or after work. He also lies straight to my face after canceling said injections and tells me my work really wants him to update my work status so that I should try to "test" out going back to work. I have reservations but he insists it'll just he a trial to see how I'm doing and not to worry that he's "there for me" and can update it anytime if I still feel pain. Well turns out the ahole lied and cleared me as no longer suffering pain and good to be back at work. And cancelled my need for a consultation with a surgeon. I only found this out due to my current lawyer telling me he had done this. This quack will go behind your back and lie on your reports. When I questioned this on my last appointment both him and his staff of nurses tried to gaslight me and say that I had told them I was better and no longer in any pain - these idiots couldn't say anything when I shot back at their faces asking then why had he just requested more acupuncture after my prior visit after telling them I was still in pain? They just stared at me like deer in headlights. Only to say that they don't lie on reports (to which at the time I had never said that, so it was Freudian slip). But once she mentioned that, I had to remind them that before him having me "test out" going back to work, due to their severe negligence I had ended up at the ER this past Christmas Eve since they never filed my work status, when I was still disabled, with my employer nor gave me one either and just gave me run around when i asked about it- so work had placed me back at work full duty and after 2-3hrs of work I needed up having to go to the ER. When I asked what happened they had insisted that they had sent my work documentation of still being unable to work. Finally after reminding them of all this they gave me the bumrush out of the office refused to give me a report and then said I should seek out another doctor. This after he lied on my report and turned into my employer telling them I'm no longer injured. Stupid idiot - I still have upcoming acupuncture sessions he requested due to the pain, yet I'm "no longer in pain". Went from instantly wanting to declare me completely disabled and no longer treatable to just a few months later behind my back saying im fine now and no longer injured/in pain. All while still requesting acupuncture sessions ( I should note they were trying to get me to have the acupuncture at his office so they could bill it there) since i was still in pain and still having me do monthly/bi weekly office visits he could $$$ for. Make it make sense Absolutely shitty doctor and staff. Beware. read more

From my first visit to now Dr.Mattar is a very caring doctor that his trying to know where the pain his affecting you like nerve pain or sciatic pain from your L1,2,3,4,5 and s1,2,3. I just have to speak on Dr. Mattar, I injured myself at work about 3 years ago, I initially had another Workmen's Comp. doctor, he was OK, but I was left with a sense that he was overwhelmed. I then got Dr. Mattar about 2 years ago, what a difference. His staff is very kind and empathetic. He listens, he cares, when you describe what your level of pain or discomfort is, he talks you through maybe two or three options. He explains what pain or neuro pathways are being affected so you can understand what's going on in your body and make informed decisions. He has made me feel like I mattered. He follows industry protocols. He runs labs periodically to make sure any prescribe medication is not impacting any internal organs negatively. He gets me some of the best interventions for my pain so I do not have to entertain Surgery at the moment. I've had acupuncture, massages, chiropractic services, and exercise plans that really help. I can't believe this Doctor has any five star reviews. He is completely arrogant and unprofessional. He saw me at the Concentra location in Riverside. The staff there made several coding errors that caused a much needed procedure to be denied and delayed. The staff there never got back to my Workmen's Comp. adjuster when asked for additional information. At my appointment I expressed my frustration regarding this with Dr.Mattar. He became angry and defensive and told me there was nothing he can do that he was only a contractor there and that I needed to take it up with the office manager. When I said that reflects negatively on him he became irate, sent in the office manager and he left the room. He never returned to the room and during check out the Office Manager informed me that the doctor would not be treating me and I needed to find a different provider. Dr. Mattar had always treated me like family since the first day we met. I was referred to the Huntington Beach office through my workers comp after having lost my last pain management Dr. At the beginning, he was a bit aggressive after finding out I was on a narcotic pain medication. However, he agreed to take my case as I agreed to discontinue them so I could try anything else to relieve my pain. At the end of the exam, he was returning me to work with a limit I was not able to do at this time. When I asked him if he knew what it was I did for a living and what it entails, he got angry, saying I was being confrontational. I told him that my autistic brain needs to have answers in order to understand. He said "you never told me you were autistic" as if it mattered since his attitude should not be given to anyone. He proceeded to storm out saying he was not going to take my case. I was left in his office to have a meltdown. While in tears, the staff tried to kick me out but I needed time to calm down. I had a case manager with me so she helped a lot. I would never recommend this Dr to anyone looking for compassion or someone with a disability. Asking questions was clearly a knock to his ego and it's not ok so do not go to this Dr expecting to have a detailed conversation. I went to see Dr Mattar on advice from a friend. I was skeptical because I had seen several Dr.'s before and spent a lot of frustration and time trying to get some relief from this chronic back pain. I went in to see Dr. Mattar with a "We'll see" attitude. I must say, his staff was polite and professional, especially his PA. Once I met the Dr. himself, I was thrilled with his kind and easy manner. He made me feel better already and he hadn't even written a prescription yet! This past Monday May 7, 2018. I went to see this doctor for the first time. I wasn't able to read all the reviews on him particularly the bad reviews. I had mentioned it to my lawyer that he's got some bad reviews, but was told by the paralegal for my lawyer that I have to go this first visit. So I went there. I got there for my 1:00 appt., I was given a big stack of forms to fill out. It took a while to fill out the paperwork. I left a few questions unanswered including the social security info. Handed the papers back to the receptionist. And sat down, I fell asleep a little and I preceded to play a couple of games on my phone to try to stay awake. And I noticed that a few people that came after me was called in and I'm still not called, so I approached the receptionist and she told me to wait for the other receptionist. It took a while before the receptionist finally called my name. When my name was finally called, the receptionist took me to the room but I had to use the restroom. After I came out of the restroom and went into that room I was assigned and I waited for a few minutes before she came back and informed me that I wouldn't be seen by the doctor because he didn't receive my mri. I left and called the paralegal while I got into my car. I informed her that I waited 2 hrs and was told I won't be seen by the doctor. I was so mad. She told to wait a few minutes while she called the doctors office. She could not get through, no one was answering, so I went home. It just wasted my day off . My right shoulder needed surgery due to a tear from bench pressing. For three years I was in horrible pain. I went to doctor raafat and he advised me to do the PRP procedure. I received two treatments of PRP from Dr. Raafat. The whole process took about three months and I felt like a new man my shoulder was pain free. I went to the Long Beach location and noticed that this location is wonderful. Easy parking, nice building, and clean office. His staff is very professional and he exemplified what they say about the old school doctors. "They don't make then like they used to." He spent a lot of time with me and asked all the right questions. He even asked about the my the physical setup of my home and what my goals treatment goals are. He was not authoritative in his approach (i.e. my way or the highway). The focus of medicine has change to a patient centered approach. He clearly exemplified those qualities. I have experienced some doctors that rush you out of the room and ask few question and give you medication without describing the effects of the medication and seeing if that fits into my daily activities. I think that is rude of doctors who do things like that. Lastly, I was once late and Dr. Mattar accommodated me by taking me after his last patient of the day. He was understanding and his staff remained very professional when they noticed that I was very late for my appointment. I did not get admonished like I am some little kid about being late. Pros and Cons. Let's go with negatives first, to get it out of the way. The staff organization is confusing. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how they see their patients. You may be waiting over an hour, and the chairs aren't comfortable for some with back pain. (Suggestion: buy a seat pillow, I take mine pretty much everywhere). The problems mostly lie with the office staff, in my opinion. They schedule you without asking your availability. And don't seem very organized. Or perhaps, they are just overworked and understaffed. Either way they are inefficient. Positives, Dr. Mattar is a doctor that cares about his patients. He takes his time to find the best form of treatment for you and asks what you think. If you feel comfortable about it. And takes the time to explain and inform you so you understand.
