A truly professional experience. Since having my baby, I've been dealing with severe headaches and intense neck and shoulder tension. On my first visit, the doctor accurately identified the misalignment and blockages causing my headaches through precise adjustments. My body cracked a few times--and suddenly the whole world felt brighter. The massage afterward was incredibly relaxing and relieving. The therapist was professional and friendly, with just the right pressure, and never made me feel uncomfortable (I'm quite socially anxious haha!). Terrible pain and Discomfort! The chiropractor didn't listen to what I asked of him and just did a totally minimal adjustment. He spent about 60 seconds with me. Then the masseuse performed a rough fast and not thorough massage that left me in far more pain then I had when I came in! The lady at the front desk didn't care at all, she all but shrugged her shoulders- will definitely be telling everyone I know NOT TO GO! Not worth the pain and terrible customer service! read more

I've had so many massages in my life--from the best spas in Bali and Thailand to name a few. But this business has a special place in my heart. Nestled on an unassuming strip opposite from the Halsted Orange Line, Pain Stop is a no-frills clean little business. I've been going here for years and will continue to do so as long as I call Chicago home. Now on to FONG. You've seen her name around here and for good reason. She's an amazing massage therapist and amazing human. I go to Fong regularly now and I'll tell you why. Fong does a very good job of concentrating on the areas that have those knots. She's gifted at what she does. AND she's just delightful. After first meeting with her, Fong met me in the lobby to teach me some stretches and how to better my posture. I told her that my posture is so poor because I try to hide my stomach. She took my hands, told me she understands, but assured me that our bodies are perfect the way they are. I left Pain Stop feeling so much looser and incredibly empowered. Going to Fong on a monthly basis is truly my way of taking care of my body. You should all book with her! This would be a really good reason to move to Chicago. My husband slept wrong and severely hurt his back and could not bend down and could barely walk. Found this place based on yelp reviews and location. OMG did they help him. He said his massage was the best he's ever had. He said she found all the knots in his back and got them out without him telling her where they were. He also said Dr. Choi was amazing and he wished we lived closer. I will definitely be dropping by for a massage the next time we are in town. read more

My experience here was generally positive but I do have one complaint. The massage therapist Fong was thorough and attentive. The doctor was patient when answering questions and offered adjustments that fixed my SI joint pain effectively, but he adjusted my neck without a discussion first and the adjustment resulted in some mild side effects. I came in for scapula and SI pain, and I did not want a neck adjustment since I have no neck pain, but the doctor provided one anyways, and afterwards I have been experiencing some mild symptoms such as dizziness, small headaches and pain in my neck, which has lasted two weeks till now, and those symptoms were not there before. Again my experience is generally positive and the symptoms are not too severe, so I only took off two star, but I do really want an explanation or solution from this place on why the neck adjustment came with side effects. I tried to schedule another appt with the doctor but they said he threw out his back and cannot see patients at the moment, hopefully once he is better he can fix what is going on with my neck or at least explain what happened. But thank you for fixing my SI pain and teaching me the exercises! Hope you get better soon. read more

I am severely disappointed by this place. I came because of all the amazing reviews and because many people say they targeted specific pain. The masseuse I got barely put any pressure or rubbed my body at all.... and she stretched my arms in a way that left me in worse pain then I came in... she also spent twenty minutes literally just TOUCHING my toes.. no pressure or actual massage techniques were used. She just would apply minimal pressure in random spots... I feel like I wasted my money I'm really disappointed. read more

I'm disappointed with the massage I received. They performed techniques on me that I found counter productive to my shoulder. The masseuse had me in a bow tie position with my shoulders - was verbally in pain and she told me to relax. Kind of hard to relax when you are twisted like a pretzel.... hands down the best massage I've ever had! I came in here in March to fix a small back issue caused by being rear ended. I got the deal on groupon and was just going to go that one time because my back was hurting so badly! I had I think Andrew the first time for my massage and he was amazing!! I saw the chiropractor after and he did some electric pad massage and did his magic realigning and my back felt better walking out the door! It took a couple times going back to get it to normal but after about 5-6 sessions mixing the chiropractor and my new masseuse Yang my back is doing so much better!! The first time I went they let me know the visits are covered if you have Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO...and guess who has that insurance??? ‍ So now I go almost weekly when I'm in town..best decision ever!!!! read more

I followed the reviews and I booked with Fong!! Looking at her small stature I elected deep tissue..... BIG mistake. She is STRONG STRONG and had me curled up in the fetal position ‍. She noticed and asked should she adjust the pressure! Thank you Fong!! I recently had bilateral knee surgery and I'd been sleeping in horrible positions to accommodate. My upper body was so tight and I had no range of motion in my neck due to the pain. She knocked out all of the tension and released the pain. The pain had been so bad and I've been going twice a week as my insurance allows. No exaggeration I had my range of motion back as I got dressed the 1st visit!! In addition to the massage, I've also been getting the acupuncture and an adjustment from the chiropractor all included if you want them. Why wouldn't I??? This is a no frills spot hence the name! They will listen to your needs and help alleviate your pain. This knee surgery recovery has been difficult and doing this for myself is top tier self care. Even if you don't have BCBS PPO to help cover the cost it's still not too expensive to heal your body. I almost forgot to mention that I have worked with Mike when Fong's and the Drs schedules are tight and he gives a great massage as well, just communicate with the receptionist your needs as you are taken to your room and you're good to go. If you're one of those weirdo's that don't like non English speaking providers. Go somewhere else and grow up read more

Allana takes her work very seriously and helped my aching body. John was very welcoming and so helpful! I was a bit groggy after my deep tissue work and needed help figuring out how to connect with my UBER ride. Both made sure I connected with my ride home. Oh! I emailed to see if they could fit me in. This is a very "okay" place. My therapist Andrew was great but the place could use an update in terms of hygiene, both the massage areas and the waiting areas. I was pleased with the service, yet my issue was not resolved (but he really worked hard, so perhaps it needs more sessions). The smell of the massage table was quite off putting. And the location does not help but I guess too late to change that (it is between an abandoned martial arts studio and a tattoo parlor, alongside the highway...). read more

I've been going to Chantelle at the Milwaukee Pain Stop location on recommendation of a friend for a few years. She was booked full for a day that I was looking to get a deep tissue massage and I decided to give The Pain Stop Chinatown a try.. The first go-around, I failed to communicate exactly what I was looking for our of the massage therapy. While I felt limber, there was a bit of a miscommunication error. John, the manager, went out of his way to recommend Lina, another massage therapist at the Chinatown location, to me, and even went so far as to find an opening in her booked schedule. The massage work performed by Lina was nothing short of extraordinary. Typical of a deep tissue massage, it was intense followed by deep relaxation. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lina to other athletes and even non-athletes. The staff goes out of their way if there are any problems an I write to thank John for taking care of me. read more

Based on their exterior & website, they're very forthcoming about their "no frills" chiropractic work which I appreciated. They make it clear it's not your average fancy spa massage. They're there to target your pain & that's exactly what they did for me. I got a great massage & foot massage (they're separate, but worth it) that helped my muscles like no other.
