Completely unprofessional and left my friends and I feeling harassed. I never write reviews, but after seeing a thread on Twitter about girls who have had the same experience as my friends and I while getting tattoos at Painless Ric's Tattoo Studio, I decided that others should be warned. A couple months ago, my friend went to get a small tattoo on her foot and one of our other friends and I went as support. While getting tattooed, John made sexual comments to all of us. He kept taking breaks while tattooing her to tell us uncomfortable stories about him putting people in the hospital for beating them up and stuff like that. It took THREE hours to get the smallest tattoo. 2.5 of those hours were spent with all of us uncomfortable and eager to leave. read more

Got my first tattoo here. I called ahead of time and told Ric what I wanted. He told me to come on down. So I made the short drive out to his shop and by the time I got there he already had a drawing for me. I loved it. He was the friendliest guy you'll ever meet. I got the tattoo on my ribs and it didn't hurt near as bad as I thought it would. Especially for a rib tattoo. He's been doing this for a long time and has a super gentle hand. I love the piece he made for me. It's perfect. I couldn't have had a better first tattoo experience. When he finished my tattoo I got to ring a cowbell he has hung up in his shop to celebrate my first tattoo. He calls it the "Virgin Bell". The tattoo healed quickly and perfectly without any scabbing or itchiness at all. Great environment. I highly recommend this place to anybody who wants a sweet tattoo. This tattoo shop is one of the best. I got a finger tattoo 2 years ago and it was super straight, didn't bleed and kept it's color. I went in for a touch up last year and I didn't really even need it, it was just for basic care because of the position of my tattoo. I haven't gotten a recent touch up yet and it still has all of it's pigment in tact and still has clean lines. Can't recommend this place enough. read more

My wife and I got tats at Painless Ric's last night. We had never been in there or ever met Boomer or Ric. Today is the one year anniversary of my brother-in-law's death, and ever since he passed we have intended to get tattoos in his honor. We decided we would get them at the one year mark. I had been recommended to Painless Ric's, but was disappointed to find out that they are closed on Sundays, which would have been the one year date. I decided to call and see if they had any recommendations. Boomer answered the phone and was super helpful when I explained the situation. He gave me a couple of recommendations for other places in Vancouver that might be open and told me to be careful -- that even though what I was looking for was simple (a star outline), I should look at portfolios and not assume that it would be done right by just anybody. I was pleased that he didn't hesitate to speak well of others, but that he was cautious in his suggestion too. I called around to the other places Boomer had suggested, but just didn't have as good of a feeling about either of them -- neither of them seemed as professional as he had. My wife and I talked about it and decided that if Boomer was available, we would go ahead and go with him last night rather than waiting until today. I called him back and he was willing to schedule us in right away. The place is bright and open, not at all dark or sketchy. Ric and Boomer were both there and both were friendly and professional. Boomer did a good job talking us through size, line thickness, and location, and we both felt really comfortable being there. My wife hadn't ever gotten any tats; I have a tiny one I got overseas but hadn't ever had a 'normal' Western tattoo experience. She and I were both nervous. Suffice it to say that we had our fears allayed and had a great experience. Boomer was careful, professional, friendly, and skilled -- as well as being caring and understanding of the emotional aspect for us. I came to Ric's to get my VERY FIRST tattoo with my best friend. John worked with us and we had a fantastic experience! He genuinely cares about his customers and he helped us to get the best tattoos possible. He double checked with us that we were positive about our designs and the area where we placed them. Our tattoos only took about 30 minutes each but we ended up staying at the shop for 3 and a half hours just because we enjoyed talking with John so much! He was very kind and real with us. He gave us tons of tips and this being our first tattoos he informed us of things we needed to watch out for in the tattoo industry. He was very clean as he took extra care to sanitize and replace tools. The shop is very welcoming and clean. This being my first tattoo I had read up on things to look out for and safety precautions to use. John not only repeated the things I had learned but he went in depth past what I had found out for myself and answered all of my questions. Painless Ric's is the place to go! Painless Ric's is okay if you are wanting a tattoo around midnight on a Saturday in Vancouver. Their prices are a little much. We paid 60 each for 1"x1" half a yin and yang tattoo on our hands. We should have waited, but we really wanted to get inked. On the bright side our artist was friendly and proffessional. We made sure to give a good tip. read more

My husband and I both got our first tattoos here years ago. We had one of the other guys tattoo (not Ric) For me-One was a tattoo in memory of a child so was a custom design. The second was chosen from flash around shop. Both done well and we are about 8 yrs later and still looking good. Both are small and on hands. My husband- One was matching tattoo to mine; second was arm band. Both custom designs. He had a little difficulty working with the artist who wanted to put his own spin on the design. It is a Norwegian gripping beast with Norse letters spelling out a tribute to the child. But we were unwilling to compromise on the design because we did the research first and did not want changes that would negate the importance of the design either by changing look of the letters (could make them into a different letter if not careful) or by changing the look of the animal, thus making it less appropriate to my husband's heritage. Sure, some of the suggested changes may have improved the "look" of the tattoo but that was not what we wanted. The artist did not press too hard and did the arm band as well as smaller tattoo on hand. Unfortunately, the lines are not 100% parallel all the way around arm band. In some places there is little wiggle on one side or where they are further apart on one side than the other. It is not noticeable unless you are really looking though read more
