I DO NOT RECOMMEND! A day before my appointment, I emailed the "artist" asking for a double bracelet tattoo. I sent photos of my inspiration tattoo along with my drawing of the changes I wanted. I should have walked out when he first asked where on my FOOT I wanted my tattoo?!? After I explained it was still a bracelet I wanted and I wanted it on my wrist, he kept asking me how to fix his design. In hindsight, I should have said nothing and just kept pointing to my inspiration tattoo. However, I do admit that after 2 hours, it looked better than I expected given his challenges. Lastly, he did not even bother to cover my tattoo to protect my skin, just took my money and called it good. I reached out to the owner hoping to work together on a fix and she said, "I am not a good fit". Customer service at its finest! read more

Yes, this review is long, but for good reason. The point is: Drew is an artist, a true professional. I would recommend his work to anyone who wants a real tattoo experience that will also result in a memorable piece of personal body artwork. Read on... Drew created a phenomenal cover-up tattoo for me - in addition to a whole new piece of fantastic body art. I visited with three other tattoo artists before choosing to put a deposit down with Drew. About 5 years ago I got a tattoo of 5 small (3/4 inch) ladybugs on my shoulder - and I loved them for a while, until they started becoming little blobs! (Ahmm - poor artist / recipient communication - just sayin'!) At any event, I chose Drew because he really took into consideration what I was looking for, and actually took out a pencil and some paper to create a drawing. I did bring some source-material pics, but what I was really looking for was an original creation. I want art on my body, not flash, and not computer-generated nonsensical renditions of what true art is. Drew absolutely delivered. I asked for a realistic ladybug with open wings to cover up the five little blobs that remained of my previous tattoo. I was pleased with his initial conception, and placed a deposit. Because I was only able to sit for a Saturday appointment, and the project was guesstimated to take three hours, we set an appointment for four weeks out. About a week later, I decided I would like to add a bit of steampunk style to the ladybug. I emailed Drew, and he quickly replied that he would be happy to comply with my request. I didn't ask for him to show me his new conceptualization because I like a surprise, and I believe that an artist should be given the freedom to create the artwork based on the criteria that I discuss with them. I was not disappointed. I arrived on time the day of my appointment, and Drew was all set up and ready to start working. He showed me the design, asked if I was happy with it (I was), made sure that it fit the "canvas", and began his work. The studio was friendly, clean, and easy-going, but obviously serious and committed to the work that they do. (Of course, I noticed all this at my consultation appointment, and that was another reason I chose to have the work I wanted done at Illuminati Tattoo Parlor in Vancouver, WA). The tattoo - even with the additions that I requested - took right at three hours, just as Drew estimated. It was easy for me to express myself when I needed a few minutes to stretch, or to just take a quick break from the needle. I'm not very conversational when I'm getting inked, and this worked out great as well. Drew was just communicative enough - informed me when things might get a bit more intense, and let me work through the rest of it just as I felt comfortable. However, I imagine that Drew would be just as comfortable / relatable with a more outspoken client as well. Towards the end (when my skin and nerves were definitely feeling the intensity of tattoo fun!) Drew let me know where we were at, and encouraged me by letting me know that I was doing a good job at being the canvas - but not at all in a false way. I mean when he asked me how I was doing toward the end of the sitting, and I told him "that I was about done", he more-or-less agreed with my quick explanation of where I was at (and I was real about it - that's important!), encouraged me a realistic way, let me know exactly where we were at, and finished just when he said he was going to. Drew made the experience inviting, comfortable, and real. He did not mince words, or placate me. He was accommodating to my requests to make myself more comfortable by using my sweater as a pillow on the table, let me take a break when I needed to, and was also aware of / helpful to other clients in the studio / parlor as needed without interrupting our session. Once again, the sign of a true professional (ethical, moral, realistic, true). I followed his explicit recommendation for healing care and follow-up to a letter, and without a doubt this has been the easiest and most comfortable tattoo healing process that I have ever encountered. (I even called a few days after I got tattooed to make sure I was doing it right - because it seemed a bit different to me - and he answered all my questions, and reviewed the process with me again). In fact, I experienced almost no itching - seriously. And after 2 weeks of healing my tattoo felt like it was healed, but I knew that I still needed to give it some extra care. I'm at 5 weeks of healing right now, and my tattoo looks amazing! The detail, color, and precision of line and shading has come through with exquisite perfection and nuance. And now I have my girl, Piper Fiadh: beautiful, fully descript on my body, and I just love her!. What else can I say? Called illuminati tattoo on Friday the 13th, they said they would put my name on the list to get a tattoo and to be down in 45 minutes. I showed up over an hour later and there were 13 people ahead of me. Obviously, that was frustrating, it's been almost a ritual for me to get a tattoo of some sort every Friday the 13th for the last 12. This would have ironically been the 13th. With that said I went out to my car trying to figure out what to do. Then, 2 girls who worked behind the desk came to my car, apoligized, and asked if I could come back. I said sure, I mean, if they put in the effort to rectify their mistake, then cool. They asked me to come fill out the paperwork, so when I came back in it would be quicker. I did and they told me to come back in an hour or so. Instead I asked if they could call me instead since I was staying in a hotel up the street. They said sure. I left, and the wait began. 2 hours passed, so I called the shop and was informed that there were still 10 people ahead of me. But that they were going to finish all the people whose name were on the list and that they would call. Needless to say, I didnt receive a call, here it is 1:00pm on the 14th, and my Friday the 13th tattoo ritual has been broken. Stopped at Illuminati during a trip to Portland form Central Oregon to have my daughter's navel pierced during the early afternoon on Saturday, April 16th. Recently remodeled shop, clean, and well lit. Informative and helpful staff upon arrival to the shop. Met with Brad for the piercing; a great and likeable guy after chatting with him for a bit; he readily answered questions about the pending piercing and was very thorough during the piercing process. The piercing only took a few minutes after signing off a waiver, as my daughter was a minor. Very easy process and was provided with contact information afterwards directly to Brad as well given supplies and informative card for care and cleaning of the piercing. Between this positive experience and seeing other work the shop has completed, I recommend this shop for anyone considering having work done, even if it requires a several hour drive to get there. Regarding the shop, it is located in a strip mall and has a parking area directly in front of the shop. Pricing was reasonable considering the high quality of work. A solid 5 out of 5 stars. Caleb is amazing!! I met him a tattoo expo with artists from all over the United States & I chose him. Not only did he make my cover up look like I had always wanted, he made it look like there was no cover up at all. I am so happy with my new tattoo. My boyfriend was so impressed with Caleb's work that he made an appointment for a new tattoo as well and it is looking fabulous (it is a large piece and is a work in progress). I hope Caleb like us as much as we like him, because we plan on visiting it a lot in the future. Also, the customer service is great. Everybody is friendly and knowledgeable and they want to make sure you feel comfortable. The only complaint I can come up with is the fact that I had they are busy and you need to make an appointment pretty far in advance, but I am positive that is because they are amazing and everybody wants in. My sister and I both got piercings late Tuesday night. The guy was chill, super gentle. But my first problem, he charged me $30 for EACH lobe piercing (and he didn't even have to "map" them out, just used the old holes from years ago) and then both of the "new" piercings we got (again $30 each) a cartilage and a tragus piercing fell out 24hr's later. These people are nice but I don't trust their work and don't expect it to last. Pay a little bit more and go to a better place unless you just want the piercing for a night out. $90 for piercings I could of done in my sleep, my sister lost her cartilage six hours later, and twelve hours after that while cleaning my tragus just fell out, and now still hurts. read more

Got a tattoo here last month by Alex, and I would NOT recommend him if you want any "small" or any "complicated" tattoos. I asked for one about half an inch to an inch but he was a little rude about it, saying things like "that's fucking tiny", so it lead to me getting one slightly bigger than I had in mind but that wasn't the main issue. The tattoo I got was a simple sun with rays, and he made a few rays completely CROOKED. He tried to cover it up by making it thicker but eventually made it even more crooked and had to thicken out the other lines as well. I pointed it out and he just laughed at me and said, "oh so you're a perfectionist?". He also retouched one of my tattoos that I had which had letters in it, and turned out completely worse than it was before. Some of the letters became crooked and messed up the shading, making it look completely unprofessional. This was definitely not worth the $100 i paid for this because now, I'm going to have to spend $1000 more to get it removed. read more
