Shout out to Douglas, one of the owners of Gold Sparrow Tattoo for contributing to beautifying the neighborhood in addition to creating a thriving business - tattoo art - in the Fremont neighborhood. I hadn't been to Fremont in a few years and as I was driving up NE 41st approaching the NE Fremont intersection, the beautiful garden caught my attention; I had to pull over and check it out. Even though it's the end of the season, the climbing rose bushes were providing their last blooms, the yellow and orange roses adding a bit of sunshine to the space. Dahlias, some the size of a desert plate, rising tall, showing off their colors were exquisite. Spreading along the ground are strawberry plants, their heart shaped leaves adding a lush green foreground. Gold marigolds, bright white bacopa and some purple flowers mixed in between the large rocks create a diversity of colors and textures. A few pumpkins strategically placed throughout give appropriate fall vibes. Let's not forget the bench, the focal point and perfect place to sit and take it all in or provite a respite from work. Perfection. While I don't have a tattoo, seeing how this garden was designed with an artistic eye, I have no doubt the tattoo art has the same attention to detail and design. I so enjoyed talking with Douglas, a fellow flower nerd, and if I ever take the leap to get a tattoo, Gold Sparrow will be my first choice. read more

I wish I'd discovered Gold Sparrow tattoo from the beginning. Ever since I found Kimber Teatro, my life has been more fulfilled and my tattoos have gotten life put into them. I come to her with a concept, and send her either a bunch of inspo pics, or send nothing just a wordy paragraph, and she makes the most beautiful art for me. I'm so pleased with every tattoo I've ever gotten from her. My back tattoo was the first one. The cat was there already and I told her I wanted to do a full back piece and gave her "I like flowers" to go on. The resulting artwork as you can see - out of this world. She next did a lovely portrait of my cat, and I wanted to memorialize my old doggo in the tattoo without having the tattoo be about him, and she came up with the idea of the rainbow and paw prints on the flower pot, for the rainbow bridge he crossed when he died. I thought it was such a good idea, and so thoughtful and compassionate, as I'm a strong believer in the rainbow bridge and our pets being on the other side waiting for us. I wouldn't have thought of that tattoo idea incorporation on my own. The dragon and unicorn and HP pot are part of a fantasy patch sleeve in progress, she has designed each tattoo with thought and care. She always replies to me, she takes my ideas and runs with them while adding her own style. If she's not familiar with the thing youre asking her to tattoo (for example, a sword from a video game) she will research it online, watch videos about it, get background history, and make sure she fully understands the idea to make sure it comes out perfect in the art. Through all of this, I also feel like I have a friend in Kimber. I've gotten to know her well during the hours we spend together and she's such a kind person. I feel like she cares about me as a person, not just the artwork she does on me. I've also gotten to know the rest of the extremely talented staff at the shop casually in passing and they really do make me feel at home. There is no pretentious attitude, even the owner is down to earth and funny and friendly. Because I have spent so many hours getting tattooed by Kimber Teatro, I have also seen the rest of the staff besides Kimber in action and they all produce extremely high quality work, and treat people of all ages, genders, shapes, and colors with great respect and professionalism. They are all excellent, talented artists and deserve your business too. I encourage anyone looking into this tattoo shop to stop your search and reach out to an artist to make your ideas come to life. I've had a tattoo design in mind for a few months, so I contacted Gold Sparrow after having seen their sign on my way down to Pip's Original Donuts on Fremont. In response to my inquiry, they promptly sent me back a very reasonable ballpark price estimate. I dropped in a few weeks later on a whim, totally unprepared for the tattooing process. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Within about an hour from the time I stepped inside, I had my first tattoo! (For a total of $120 plus tip, the low end of the price I'd been quoted.) The artist, Bree Barnett, did a beautiful job. Bree used a second skin bandage, but I peeled it off the next day, as it wasn't fully sealed. A few weeks later, my tattoo has healed perfectly and I am already dreaming about going back for another. This shop is clean and chic. They graciously accommodated me despite my lack of preparedness, and when I emailed with an after-care question they emailed back within a few hours. I was so happy to hear back from this tattoo shop when I was out here in Portland for my birthday week. I was hoping to leave Portland with a sick tattoo and did! I'm glad I did. The tattoo artists are friendly when you first enter and make your tattoo session comfortable. Overall, after what seemed like a quick 2 hour session... I was SO happy to have my new tattoo piece on my right arm. I honestly did not think it was possible to have my ideas put into work. However, Jake did an awesome job with what I wanted. This was my first tattoo, and it is so amazing I can't even believe it. Bree did such an amazing job! Firstly, she was able to see my friend and I on short notice, since we called the night before to schedule a session during the walk-in hours. She was able to design such an adorable outline and it was perfect for me and my friend, who were getting matching tattoos. Both of our tattoos took less than an hour and they were affordably priced ($100 for 2x2 inch with color). And I have been getting compliments on the little bee from people non stop ever since.
