    Birthday Party Zoom painting
    T D.

Wasn't sure what were going to do this year in terms of birthday party because of the Coronavirus lockdown. Wanted something unique. Paint:Lab to rescue. Very pleasant and professional when setting up the party. Had an one hour session hosted by Paint:Lab for my daughter's 11th birthday through zoom. Wished I had done an 1hr and half session. Her cousins and friends enjoyed it though! My daughter also started taking some online Paint:lab classes too.

Attended a Bites & Brushes with a Groupon. I made my reservation the day of but would recommend calling a few days in advance. The free parking lot out front is a bit small but I didn't have any issues on a Sunday afternoon. My class was small, only about 8 people, and there were plenty of easels and spots for everyone. Tony did a great job keeping our paints full and water clean. He set out a table of salami, cheese, vegetables & dip, grapes and strawberries. Refreshments were delicious, but I was so focused on my painting, I didn't get to partake as I normally would with freebie food! There was an option of red or white wine and we even received an extra refill. The painting session was pretty straightforward and the instructor made sure we had plenty of time to follow each step. They played music and kept the ambiance laid-back and fun. I've also participated in an Open Paint here in which you buy a canvas of your choice, they provide the paint and brushes, and you can paint whatever you want for as long as you want. Tony helped me then and made me feel welcome and made sure I had everything I needed. This is a really great option for those who want a zero-pressure experience and feel comfortable painting on their own. Great for kids too. In addition to various canvases, they also sell all kinds of paints, brushes, snacks and drinks, and paintings. A great place to relax and hang out with some paint!

I like the new location, although I can't speak for any issues with sun/heat during the day because I visited during an evening for Painting and wine/cheese. I imagine they will install some heat-resistant sun shades if they have not already. We used the Travel Zoo deal for painting, wine and cheese and had a nice time. This is definitely a good date activity or bonding activity in general (girlfriends, co-worker retreat, siblings/parents). The staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive. They kept the wine, cheese and fruit flowing and routinely checked in with each student to see if the water needed changing out, paints refreshed, etc. This really is an interesting social exercise. Half the fun is walking around to see what the other students created and how many cool ways there are to look at and render the same thing. You don't have to be a creative type to enjoy this and you will probably surprise yourself by the end of the lesson.

Had a great time at Paint Lab during their Picasso Painting Class. I have puchased this activity through travel zoo and called them to schedule this activity ahead of time. (They were full for 3 weeks) Street Parking after 6pm is free in most streets around. You paint, get some cheese and wine and paint again for 3 hours. You get to go home with your master piece and the time passed without thinking of nothing else than how good it is to paint. Recommended!

The instructor seemed inconvenienced at helping novice learners, offering those who messed up to give them a "demo bowl" to push them out rather than just assisting them in making a new bowl. Everything was rushed and it seems like they took the class/shift with disdain. People in the class would look around confused, as they thought it was an hour-long class, but we were being pushed out at the 45 minute mark. I got a notification that our bowls were ready for pickup. The pickup pile is a shelf with 50 different pieces, all with different dates. Some have names, some don't. Never got my bowl because it wasn't there. Tried to message and they are out of office for 5 days. After I left this review they told me I can come into the studio to find my bowls. Came back, still not there! Asked for them to be shipped, absolute silence.

Parking was easy, there is a street around the corner near the crosswalk with plenty of street parking spots that are free. The building is very large and spacious with plenty of room for many people to come and do pottery/ceramics projects. I was there around 6pm and it was not crowded at all, there were plenty of spots open and available for people to use. Upon arrival, there were no signs and nobody greeted me, or the people who filtered in after me. We all kinda stood around wondering, but we couldn't tell who was an employee and who was just a regular person there. People would look up and smile at us or stare at us but nobody said anything until precisely the start time of the class, then suddenly the instructor came to get us. It would have been nice to maybe have a sign such as "please wait for instructor here" or something like that. Once class started though, super fun! The instructor was down to earth, friendly, and patient with us going from station to station to assist everyone as we performed each step. I loved getting my hands dirty and I loved the ease of following the step by step instructions. Watching my bowl take shape was so fun. Learning how to control the pedal speed and how much pressure to apply to the clay to get the shape you want was pretty cool. My favorite part was creating the inside of the bowl and watching the sides of the bowl thin upwards. At the end, you get to choose between several colors of glaze and they will email us to come back to pick up our bowls once they are glazed and dried. I chose Midnight Black to match my kitchen colors. I cannot wait to pick it up when it's ready!
