My friend and I went to the Paint Lab for the evening wine and cheese paint session. The event space was great and the staff person who checked us in was very attentive. The problem was the artist who was intructing us. His name was Terry. Despite us informing him that we were beginners, he gave us little guidance. The students were sighing and saying I'm lost and he didn't walk around the class to help. He was very focused on getting his painting looking perfect. Ninety percent of his time was spent with his back to the class. Therefore, if you go and I do recommend that you do, you might want to inquire about the instructor. read more

This review is for the children's art classes only. I don't understand why a store would offer their classes on a deal site and then get extremely irritated when you call to use your deal. This has happened twice now with this place and I learned my lesson. The first time I assumed the person had a bad day but the second time I realized it was just a major attitude and who needs to deal with that? This place was awesome. I loved painting here and the staff were a great help. Anything that I needed they had. So inexpensive for what you get. It was such a fun experience to have with my friends. I am no artist but here I felt like I was. The staff helped me along the way gave me commendation and feedback. I would totally come here again. This was so much fun and I love the painting that I ended up with. I liked the inspiration that they had around the room by their instructors and some of the pictures looked like famous pieces. I like how there is a summer camp for children and teens and I would loved to come here one summer and paint with them. I also enjoyed how you could choose whether to paint with your picture down flat on a table or upright/on a slant with an easel. I will definitely come here again! read more

Lisa is always so friendly to my son and me. We drop in for open painting time usually 20-30 min max. She brings out the paints and an apron we enjoy and no mess to clean up. We love it! My son asks about "clase de arte" all the time. read more

I came here for a paint wine and cheese evening recently. I have never painted before. Ever. Well, not since kindergarten. I had no idea what I was up for. Our instructor was Terry. He put me, and the rest of the class, immediately at ease (most of us were newbies to painting) and took us step by step through the process. He walked around the room to provide pointers and helped my colorblind self mix colors. They gave us plenty of paint, changed out our water frequently, and provided the canvas and easel. Also wine and cheese! I got a bit lost, but it was because the people at the front desk were being extremely loud, not at all trying to keep their noise down during the class and the phone with it's annoying ring kept ringing quite loudly off the hook. If it weren't for that, I think it would have been a perfect class for a first timer! read more

Just had a class with Terry! Try to get him as your teacher. Excellent instructor. I really appreciated his patience and how he also encouraged us to explore different methods. attended the free open house workshop on Saturday. what I noticed first was that it's HOT in here! there are wall to ceiling windows that let the sun in all around, so it was steaming in the main area. there is also an additional back room that was a bit cooler. I really can't complain, because the class was free, but there were a BUNCH of kids in the class that were running around and talking, and parents repeating everything the instructor had just said, so I couldn't really focus on my masterpiece. I would suggest having a kids only class and a separate adult class next time. we also had to pay if we wanted to paint on canvas, so in the end that option wasn't really free. (I chose to paint on paper.) I enjoyed the class, and liked how my painting came out, but I would never pay the full $67 price to attend a normal workshop, that's just too rich for my blood. read more

I haven't been to the new space yet, so this review is of the class I took with a Groupon ($29 for 2-3 hour painting class) at their old space on Main St. I really enjoyed myself at the class and found it to be a fun concept that combines creativity and a little casual wine imbibing - two of my favorite things! I did think the instruction could have been a little more in depth. As other reviewers have mentioned, you're basically given a piece of paper and supplies, and then you loosely follow along as the instructor paints the picture. For me, this was fine, as I have some (limited) experience with painting, and it was great to just have all the supplies there for you. All in all, I would return if I saw another deal - for $29 it was totally worth it, but I likely won't go out of my way for the full-price class. read more

A great evening experience with wine and cheese. The snacks were just okay, but there was plenty of wine (which is the important part). You are so busy painting, you don't really have time to eat or drink. I will say that reviews where people are saying "Oh, everyone's looked great" are a total exaggeration. There were clearly half "artists" and half "ordinary" people. It was fun, but the instruction was just okay, and I don't know that I plan to hang my painting on the wall. I plan to try it again with a different painting and a different instructor. read more

What a fantastic event the Paint Lab had at our shop, Paws & Effect Pet Spa! They brought everything we needed to have a Pet Portrait painting party, including all the supplies, canvases, and even aprons. Our instructor, Richard and his assistant, Tony, were super professional and fun, and somehow managed to teach us to paint too! The participants came away with beautiful portraits of their pets, and it was such a great night. Lisa, the Paint Lab manager, made the whole process a snap. I love it here. There is amazing instructors who are very great with kids and are super nice. I had the time of my life there.

Had a lovely time here. My instructor was Terry and I though he was great! We went for a morning session from 10-12. It went by so quickly. And it was super fun. I have painted before, my mom had never touched a charcoal or paint brush. We both had an awesome time and left with paintings we were really happy with. Looking forward to returning! read more

Travelzoo offered a coupon so four of us went to the bites and brushes on a Sunday evening. We did not experience the heat issue mentioned but I can see how it could get hot during the day. The staff was super helpful and the instructor friendly and knowledgable. We did have the experience of seeing the instructors back most of the session, which blocked what he was showing us. I had to ask him to move several times so I could see what he was instructing us to do. At the end of the evening, we all enjoyed the wine and appetizers and left with a beautiful finished project. All in all, a great way to spend an evening. I would definitely do it again if coupons were offered. I don't think I would for full price, however. read more
