I found The Art Cottage and learned that they do watercolor classes-and figured I'd give it a try. You do need to call or go online to reserve your spot-space is limited. I called and was able to get in easily for the day and time that worked for my schedule. I showed up a few minutes early and was setup at my station with paint, paper & brushes. I was ready to go! The class was brief-I learned a few basic strokes and techniques in watercolor. Gradient painting where you start very light and work your way into the darkest version of a color. I also learned the "wet on wet" and "wet on dry" techniques and when it would be appropriate to use each. I also learned how to fix mistakes and turn them into more intentional pieces of the art. I really channeled my inner Bob Ross turning things into birds and clouds. After the instruction, I was set loose to do a painting. There were some binders full of examples to provide inspiration, but no step by step instruction, which is different from other canvass/acrylic painting classes I've done elsewhere. I applied the techniques I had learned in the lesson and some suggestions from the instructor. Although my painting might not be one worthy of hanging in a gallery, I enjoyed myself and would recommend taking a class to anyone who might be mildly interested in watercolor.

They had lockers for you to store your personal items. Adults can climb into the structures as well. My 2 and almost 4 year old had a blast. There were building blocks, push bikes, a giant slide (that was actually pretty thrilling even for an adult) and a darker dance room with music and laser lights. The walls had fun pictures of castles and dragons. Outside, there's fast food and a 5 Below and Target so it was convenient to stop by those places. The bad: They don't allow outside food. Overall, thags probably a good thing because it keeps the space cleaner. The interesting: You can purchase a play card for $20 that allows you to ride the motorcycles and play the claw machine game.

They had a deal for 4 people to attend a…read morepaint party for $70.(normally it's $35/person) I couldn't pass this up and I figured it'd be a great opportunity for a girls night. I was so right! You email them a picture prior to the Paint Party (a few days) and they are able to put the picture on to a piece of wood; from there, you get a quick lesson on how to work the paint on to the wood and techniques that may help you make the painting pop. Russ and a couple of ladies (I'm sorry, I don't remember their names) are totally willing to help and give you guidance when you're stuck. You're able to take your own food and drink to make it into more of a party if you'd like. (We definitely took them up on the offer and brought a full spread.) Russ (the owner) is an established painter and Rustic Mountain Art is a full functioning studio and workshop. At the end of it all everyone goes home with their own piece of personalized art ready to hang up (because it's already equipped with hardware!)
