I also regret agreeing to pay in full up front, which I now know is a red flag in general. If you work with Brian, some questions you may want to ask: * Will you take any measures (at all) to protect surfaces that are not the floor, like painted walls, trim, cabinets, light switches, doors, sinks, and millwork, or should I expect to find wood stain smeared on the first 1/2" of all vertical surfaces where they meet the floor and fingerprints/smears pretty much everywhere else? * If you stain things that are not the floor will you remove the stain if possible or otherwise fix the damage if not? * Will you stand by your installation work, or are there situations in which you will not guarantee that the floor will not cup, move, gap, bow, sink, etc? * Is there anything you are not mentioning to me now that you might offer as an explanation for poor results after the job is complete? * Does the quoted fee include the entire area under discussion or are you waiting to tell me about another fee? * If you subcontract the job, will I be dealing with you or with your subcontractor? * What will you do in the event that your subcontractor damages my property, eg puts a 12' long scuff down the face of a brand-new wood cabinet with a sander? Will you fix that or drag out dealing with it for months on end until I bring up a small claims suit? * If I pay you in advance, do you care at all if I am happy with your work? His response, nothing. I can tell you what I'm not doing is sanding the floor down again. After closer inspection, in the middle of the kitchen floor, is a piece of his long gray hair in the poly. Again, he tells us to pull it out, buff and put some poly on it. This is just incredible. And he stormed out, grabbed the envelope with the cash that I was going to pay him with. Yelp lead me to Lucky 17 Handyman in my area. Mr. Lacina was prompt when he came by for an assessment of our situation. A work price was agreed upon and I was relieved that he would be able to come by the next morning to do the job. He ran into some unforeseen things while knocking down a section of our wall and he didn't charge us more for it. He wanted to minimize as much damage as he could to the other side of the wall so he tried to locate the nails with his metal finder. He marked them and pulled out all the nails from the other side before cutting into the studs behind the wall. He definitely knew what he is doing, very diligent. This really stuck with me...he said, well this is what I would do in my own house. If you want an honest handyman, then Lucky 17 Handyman is your guy!!! He will get the job done right. Other flooring estimators advised us to do the same. James arrived on the scene, looked over our case and advised that we could sand and poly our existing hardwood. In his view, new flooring wasn't necessary. He also advised us that he felt confident that he could remove the most wicked stain ever out of a carpet. And he was right! His work is nothing short of outstanding. He was quick, efficient, thorough, clean on the wrap and had a great attitude. I adore contractors who take pride in their work and James is exceptional.

We had Sonnie and his crew build a laundry room closet in our basement. Thought it would be a…read morepretty quick process, as he told us a week to two to finish. Needless to say, it took over a month for it to be completed. One of his guys didn't show up for a whole week and since he didn't show, the crew didn't come. The crew ran the plumbing for the washer and dryer off of existing plumbing that is operated by a sump pump ejector. While installing, someone must have dropped a rag or towel in the pump. Our pump stopped functioning and our bathroom and sump pump room flooded 3 times. First I contacted Sonnie and didn't hear from him then I called a plumber who didn't want anything to do with it since it was a rebuild. He figured out the GFI was tripping where the pump was plugged into, so he recommended an electrician. He also recommended buying a water alarm to help prevent flooding, again. The electrician came out and installed a new GFI. So, we tried to contact Sonnie again. We didn't receive a response, then he said he would come out on the following weekend. I needed a washer and dryer and I was afraid of flooding again. So, I called another handyman to fix Sonnie's mistake, which cost another 500$. When my handyman took the pump to get fixed, they said that there was a cloth of some sort wrapped up in motor. That was why it wasn't operating correctly. Luckily, they found that and the sump pump is fixed. Sonnie and his crew did complete additional work. They installed some outdoor lighting and installed a new track with rollers on closet doors. The doors aren't working right again, as they are off the track. Sonnie originally quoted us 2000$ for the laundry room. Then his 1st written estimate was 3750$ with a 350$ "special discount", totally 3400$. His second estimate was 2475 plus 550$ for additional lighting and 400$ for piping. We ended up paying the second estimate of 3225$. Sonnie and his crew were very nice and cooperative, but a remodeling business can not be ran alone on being nice and cooperative.
