Five stars for my experience working with Jackson today. I have lots of animals at home but have never kept reptiles (minus a gecko and bearded dragon), let alone a chameleon. My preliminary research told me chameleons weren't exactly easy to care for, so I knew I needed to dig deeper. And while the internet can be an excellent resource for finding important information, it's also just as good (or even better sometimes) when you head over to specialist shops like Jackson's place. The real reason I respect a shop like Jackson's also is because you can TELL he cares for his reptiles/animals. And that's a business that has my unconditional support. We spoke for about 20 minutes before he said that based upon the level of care I provide for my animals, he could whole-heartedly recommend a chameleon. Whereas he will often try to steer real beginners like kids and such towards the more forgiving species like bearded dragons and what not. I was dead honest with him that I was a beginner in the world of keeping reptiles, and he was totally patient and took his time explaining everything from uvb lighting, their need for constant airflow (chameleons, specifically), ideal dimensions for an enclosure, etc. I got to nerd out for 30 minutes or so and check out all the cool reptiles he had in there, including all the hardware necessary for their ideal and healthiest environments. The only bummer was that they were out of Chameleons but that's such an exotic creature that I really didn't expect to see one coming in. All in all, five star experience and I am hoping to purchase my chameleon from Jackson as soon as he gets a male Veiled in! read more

Updating my review because they've changed their weekday hours to close earlier. They used to be open till 5:30/6 and I could swing by on my way home from work, but I can't with the new hours. Not gonna lie, I'm terrified of reptiles (holding them at least) but I came here to get frozen rats with my bf for his snake, the young guy who works there (with the curly hair) - I feel so bad I can't remember his name- was extremely knowledgeable and more than happy to answer all of our questions and give us a tour of their reptiles! They're prices are unbeatable and the quality is far better than most pet stores. If you are into reptiles and arachnids you should take a look at this place ( and you should probably not take your wallet). You'll definitely won't leave empty handed. We heard about it by mere luck. Having travelled to Woodland Hills to pick up a craigslist purchase, we headed to the local petsmart to get a dripper, after being dissappointed at not finding the dripper we needed for our new chameleon, the actual employee told us to head to this cool place named "the painted reptile". Boy was he spot on about the COOL factor. Granted that even with Siri directing me, we ended up parking two blocks away and finding it by foot. So, finding it is a pain in the ass but totally worth it ( think of it as a cool reward or a game like catching them pokethings). Once inside, my boys were in herpetology heaven. The employees were the nicest and most knowledgeable peeps. They made my kids feel like part of their cool gang. My son enjoyed his chat about the different species they carry (and what we have at home too,haha) so, patient-bonus points for that. They have it all: food, terrariums, supplements, decorations, scorpions, monitors, snakes, tortoises, lizards, geckos,yada, yada, yada. The only downer? They're an hour away from home, they've set the bar high for my local stores ;) We are sure to come again! read more

Their customer service is amazing and they are very knowledgeable of the animals in their store. I came here a while ago while I was in the area just to look at their bearded dragons. I really loved the person working there (I didn't get her name) but she was super helpful and sweet. Their animals all seemed healthy and happy. They have a beautiful bird there named Evan who watches over the reptiles! They offer boarding and are a rescue and I find this amazing. Hands down the best reptile store in LA, and their boarding service is a lifesaver! There is no one I trust more to watch my beardie while I'm away, and the rates are actually very reasonable compared to the local pet sitters I've tried. I came in for the first time and by the pictures from google and yelp it looked super nice and I was excited to find a good reptile store. I came in a few days ago and the place looks super run down the animals looked like they have been neglected a little, not super bad but the terrariums definitely haven't been cleaned in a long time. I recently purchased a crescent gecko (not from here), I got him from Petco. I went to multiple stores to try to get information and food for it, because Petco gave me little information about the care and feeding for him. As a responsible pet owner I wanted to learn more. I looked for a reptile store and came across Painted Reptile, I went in with my wife and OMG reptile heaven. The staff there are very knowledgeable with all sorts of reptiles, they proceeded to show me a gown up geckos and some hatchlings I was so Excited. They directed me to proper food for my lil one and proper care, I even walked out with a book to do a little more research. They are more costly than somewhere like petsmart or petco but you are getting what you pay for: quality! Always great getting premo parking. They have everything you need for your terrarium. So far this is where I've found the best value on crickets. Ever since I bought my Argus Monitor from them at the Super Show a couple years ago, I've been a regular customer. I always get my frozen mice from them because I know they get shipments each week. You don't have to worry about getting mice that have been sitting forever, because they cycle through them pretty quickly. Guaranteed fresh! My lizard is plump and happy at around 3.5 feet long now:) All of their reptiles are captive bred, and very healthy and alert. Like the other reviewer, I could not find the store. I found the building with the address listed on it, but it's broken up into suites, and none of the suites was labeled Painted Reptile. I looked at the business directory at the front of the driveway, and there was no Painted Reptile listed. So I called the store twice while I stood on the sidewalk. Neither time did anyone answer, not even a machine. Keep in mind I went during the business hours listed on Yelp. These people (I've dealt with Ismael the most and he is my go-to guy who has helped me with everything!) They've answered countless question about my kingsnake, sand boa, and milk snake and have been sooo knowledgeable about all of them even though they're all such different kinds of snakes. He has been spot on in all the help he and the other great guys there have given me! Last week I bought a new snake from them-the cutest hognose I've ever seen! Only giving one star because there isn't anything lower then that. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.HANDS DOWN THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH. I have been going there for a little over a year now to buy feeders with my fiancé and the store has just been consistently going down hill. After today I will no longer be going back, I went in to buy feeders with my lady. While waiting for the worms we like to look around to see if there is any new interesting reptiles. And my fiancé saw that they had fat tailed geckos, and just from her reaction I knew she wanted the two that we thought were in the tank. So I went to ask for help to lift the hide in the tank so we can see exactly what the gecko looks like before purchasing. But I was told I can't see the gecko unless I was purchasing it because he didn't want to bother them. Because they were nocturnal, are you joking!! And continued to say I can show you a picture of it, then went to google a picture of the gecko!! How stupid is that!!! Not even a picture of the one in the store!! That makes me feel like your just assuming 1.)I'm not going to buy it 2.)I don't have the money to pay for it 3.)I don't know what a fat tailed gecko is I know that as soon as we saw them they were coming home but we were so turned off by the customer service we left without them and we are never going back.
