This is by far the best reptile shop in LA. She doesn't do it for the money, she does it for the animals. I got all 4 of my reptiles from here, as well as regularly going back for my supplies. Let me tell you why this is a shop that truly cares. Firstly, the owner has years of with all different types of species. She also co owns a company that brings animals and animal education to schools and events. She gives back to the community, not only by taking in reptiles that can no longer be taken care of, but also offering children a place for volunteer and learn about different species and how to interact with them. There is only one other reptile shop in the near by area and they are profit based and rude. Often over stocking babies and younger reptiles, instead of helping displaced reptiles find a home and restocking only when appropriate cage sizes have vacancies. I have no idea why anyone would rate this shop lower than 5/5. I've been a loyal patron for a few years now, and truly couldn't have found my perfect babies without Riley and her team. My cornsnake was abandoned at Riley's door and was scales and bones. She took him in, helped him regain his weight, until I found him, took over his treatment and brought him to his forever home. Kiddos are turning 10 and 13 this month and we've decided it was time for them to get their own pet as they've requested one year after year. After doing some research, we decide to go in to this shop and we're glad we did. Of course we were only goin to "check it out" and maybe start gathering habitat needs.... But in her truest form, my wife fell in love with the beardy and tortoise my kids were after so home we went - with new pets. Riley was awesome in suggesting another store to purchase certain items, one because she didn't have it in stock and another because she thought we'd save some money. Gotta love it! I picked up a container of isopods and springtails to put in my crested gecko tank, but when I added them to the enclosure I only saw 2 or 3 isopods and no springtails. After about 3 weeks I brought the container back and couldn't find my receipt, but the staff was helpful and replaced it for free and even looked through each container with me to make sure I got a good one read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would, attempted to buy a Boa from them and paid for the snake before picking it up, when the time came to pick it up my living situation got changed around and I came in and explained I wouldn't be able to properly care for it and they told me they couldn't refund me right then and there because "they didn't have enough money in the store" but took my number stating they would call me when they had my money. It's now been 2 almost 3 weeks I've tried to call multiple times and yet to have got an answer or any kind of response. Tried to call again today just to realize they've blocked my number. This is absolutely the worst Facility to purchase any Reptile. The owner, Geoffrey M. is a Scam artist as well as his employees, that exhibits zero intelligence, none disclosure (s) of their so called purchase policies to customers, and the lack of understanding to their consumers concerns. Approximate 3 1/2 months ago my wife and I visited Painted Reptile, and asked their employee if they had any Bearded Dragons, for there were none on their show room. The employee said YES! He went upstairs and brought down a Male and Female Bearded Dragon. We asked the employee was there a history of medical problems with them. His answer was NO! So my wife and I made the purchase, along with over $400 in accessories to insure they have a great living environment. We take great pride in the care of our Reptiles, which includes Scorpions and Tarantulas for over 12 years. The first Bearded Dragon we purchased, surprisingly died within the first 30 days, due to the inherited mite infestation. The second one died just 2 days ago on June 1st, 2023 from being blind. The cause of both deaths' were from inherited mite infestation around their eyes, which caused blindness, unable to see their food, and the mites can only be seen through a Magnifying Glass. This was verified from our Veterinarian. When we spoke with Geoffrey M. the Owner of Painted Reptile, who stated he was in business for over 2 decades, was very arrogant, conceited, rude, opinionated, an outrageous attitude, and exhibited no concern about what took place. He offered no solution and became very argumentative. His inconsiderate, his attitude was unacceptable, unprofessional, and this was no way to treat anyone, especially paying customers. In conclusion! If Yelp had a Zero Rating, then Painted Reptile would truly deserve it. I'm sure there will be substantially more negative reviews posted about this business, which the owner, Geoffrey M. takes in sick reptiles, they die quickly, just to sell them for profit with zero resolution. I'm giving this place 3 stars until I'm able to find them to change my mind otherwise. Trying to find this place was the most frustrating thing ever and all the "reserved" parking lot makes it impossible to park. On maps it has their unit listed as 301, their website has 301, yelp has it listed as 215. Well I went to unit 301 and there was the entrance door then your stuck in a little entrance hallway/room, with name of another organization that supports reptiles, with no assistance. The second door says "employees only." I tried to knock and no answer. I tried opening the second door and it was locked. I tried their ring camera and it was dead. I could hear people inside talking. I was so excited to visit and it turned out to be the most confusing and mind blowing experience ever. I would still love to visit and change the rating if someone can help me find this place. Hi Geoffrey. Thank you for the response. I updated photos with the unit discrepancy. I went to unit 301 since that is what I saw listed on maps and your website. It wasn't until after I left that I saw yelp has unit 215 listed. i was boarding my two white's tree frogs here starting 8/17 and on monday 8/21 they called to tell me that they had accidentally sold them. they're saying now they think that they were stolen. communication has been terrible so i'm really not sure what's going on. i just want my babies back. if you or anybody you know got a couple white's tree frogs between those days PLEASE let me know, i've had them for years and i'm devastated. happy to take this review down if/when they're returned to me but for now please keep this in mind!! read more

I can't thank this company enough. I had 3 bearded dragons that I bought from petco/PetSmart. All of them seemed to be very healthy and we had the tank all set up. Unfortunately all of them died with in weeks. Devastating to my poor kids. Fortunately I found painted reptile. Silly name.... But hey. The guys I talked to knew his shit. Very informative, very helpful, and the guy knew his reptiles. I couldn't be happier. Sure I had to drive an hour xtra 20 mines. I bought my first ball Python from here and she is the absolute best, the employees are personable and know their husbandry. I still get my feeder rats from here! Prices are definitely decent compared to other places. one time I brought my new snake bc i had left over rats from my other snake that felt too big for my baby and the employees were so helpful in the correct sizing.im moderately experienced but one can never be too careful lol! I told the gentleman behind the counter and he recommended mealworms and we'll let's just say little Pupusa has a full belly tonight. Great customer service! They took in my snake that was constipated and cleaned him out for free and gave him a dose of antibiotics FOR FREE. That would have costed me a couple hundred bucks and to wait couple days. THEN!! I decided to move and was wanting to give said snake a new home to be loved. They took him in for free no questions asked and put him in an educational program for kids. This made me feel a lot better about giving my 20 year old childhood pet away. Thank you! We arrived right as the store opened to purchase our first ever snake: a ball python. Geoffrey was incredibly helpful, taking 2 1/2 hrs in all to help us find the right snake and set up. He was extremely knowledgeable and practical, not trying to up-sell us, being very realistic about what we needed. His staff were very helpful on the phone as well, and I'm confident we can call or visit for help if we need it. All of the animals seemed healthy and happy, all were housed separately.
