Such a fun place for group activity! Bernard is a great and fun teacher. He doesn't rush you and let's you enjoy and paint at your pace. He also plays amazing music to which we ended up dancing as well. So it was paint, wine and dance session for us!! The painting looked difficult initially but Bernard navigated us easily and made it so enjoyable. It's a bring your own drinks place so take along your favorite wine along with you! We got a nice deal on groupon and we were able to use it immediately. We all loved this place and would highly recommend.

What a fun night painting and sipping with my fellow co-workers as a Company Gathering. We picked this venue for a fun after work reunion of sorts since the Pandemic, we've not been back in the office full time. We all tried to focus more on the painting, mixing colors and the process but I gotta say, it was nice to have a drink (or three) in hand as needed through my creative process. * Wink wink I couldn't quite mirror the selected art piece but my group and I did enjoy the laughs in between, seeing who was the Monet of the group. You'll see my attempt in the photos. As we agreed by the end of the session, our art pieces were done "by interpretation". Our instructor Patricia, was energetic and very nice. She gave lots of great pointers on the mixing of colors and tips to create the illusion of trees. She had us mixing colors to create custom colors. As we had music playing in the background, it sort of became a karaoke/ sing-along event. We even brought our own playlist which we titled the "pizza play list". (We were allowed to order food for the event and ate before we painted. Side note: our group ran over in time but Patricia was kind enough to give us a few extra minutes to finish our masterpieces and more time to let our pieces dry. I would totally do this again but pick an easier picture to paint next time. Ha ha

Attended the Monet 'Water Lillies and Japanese Bridge' session with Bernard as an instructor. The painting seemed complex and was definitely intimidating but Bernard made the process easy. The class felt pretty fast, especially towards the beginning, but still took the entire 1.5 hours so could see why we needed to move quickly. Vibes are good, music is good and the group was a fun crowd to be around. In terms of the actual painting, it was overall quite good but the end result didn't look too too similar to the example painting, largely because the water was more full of long strokes vs. the example which had more of a dotted / splotchy effect. My friends who had minimally done paint and sips in the past weren't too bothered by this. Overall still a great experience and came back with some cute paintings!

    Hey... at least we tried.

My friend had a private birthday party and we had Julia as our instructor. I have done a dozen of these classes from CA to NY. This was by far the worse experience. Julia did not instruct very much and we were all confused. I counted the minutes from when she told us to color a section red until the next time she spoke. It was 10 minutes! Absolutely unacceptable and most of us just copied the painting we saw hung up. She also stepped aside and checked on her phone a lot. She is very talented and her picture turned out great but the experience was underwhelming. She might be an artist but she can't teach. I hope that she learns to communicate and teach for future classes.

Had a fantastic time here with my friend. I booked the day before, so I was glad to find some spots available. I went on a Friday evening in the studio located at Chelsea. Our instructor was super friendly and we had awesome throwback songs playing in the background. This is a BYOB, which I was happy about since I don't drink. Overall, I had a fun time. I got my tickets from Groupon, which came up to be about $30, per person. Highly recommend checking that out first before purchasing from website. P.S. I kind of wish they didn't waste so much good paint. There was a lot of fresh paint left on my palette, and I kind of wish there was a way to take that home and use for later (majority of cost us going towards supplies anyway).

I had a nice time at the Harlem location. Music was pumping, playing all the great Afro beat jams and reggae mixes. It wasn't crowded, only a few people per session to be in compliance with covid regulations. You can BYOB and snacks, just keep your mask on when not eating or drinking. I liked the Chelsea location better, I think it was the instructor. Cray was my instructor and she didn't seem very helpful like she claimed to be. My daughter mixed the wrong colors and got a darker color than expected so she asked for help with lightening it up, but the response and body language from Cray seemed like she really didn't want to be bothered. I noticed first then my daughter said it to me. Good thing I remembered my primary colors so I helped her out. Check in on Yelp to receive 32% off your next purchase!

Enjoy every minute in here painting with my best friend!

This spot was so enjoyable and I highly recommend coming here to have some fun, either with friends/family or as a company event! They provided ample painting supplies, and their clear instructions make it easy for those who don't have painting experience to paint like a pro!

A big reason I choose Painting Lounge was it is a BYOB and so the ticket price is for the supplies and instruction. Since my date and I don't drink this was nice, as with my research most Paint n Sip places you pay $50 to include alcohol which we wouldn't be drinking. A steep price for someone who just wants to paint. So I was very happy to find a place that caters to both allowing for an adult atmosphere but without the pressure to drink because of ticket prices. I went to the Harlem studio on a Thursday evening to paint "Rainy Day" with Cray. She started off with a great bubbly personality and unique names for the brushes to get everyone relaxed. The instructions were easy to follow, with optional touches of each artist at the end. I have some painting background, but am not a fine artist by any means. To challenge myself I went for a spring time theme which did make things a little tricker as I had to mix my own colors but that was the point of challenging myself. Cray was great at coming around and helping. She also learned to read the artists and which didn't mind her help by showing with her brush on their canvas and which were not as open to it. While I didn't mind it I did want to meet the challenges myself and she learned that and so would give me vocal advice instead when she got to my painting. Overall the experience was fun, calm, and easy even for someone who hasn't painted at all (my date of the night) My biggest concern was how complex or difficult it might be but it wasn't at all. I will for sure be back to relax and be creative. Just note: if you do in person, you will have to wear your mask the whole time indoors.

This was a sisterly event with my sorority sisters and my first Paint and Sip. I had a great time and will definitely be attending again. Our instructor was TJ and he was pretty good and his patience was a lot better then mine. LOL The studio is BYOB and was able to be separated INTO two rooms. We had our event on one side and there was a birthday party on the other side. I've attached a photo of my painting (my first).

I had a lot of fun. The artist Patricia was well prepared as well as enthusiastic. She walked around and gave positive feedback. The people who painted were nice and enthusiastic.

I went to the Williamsburg one last night (11/14). It was great fun. The teacher seemed experienced and started with us brush water on the canvas to make it wet. Then, he gave us more and more instructions, and walked around the room to help each of us. He also told us to skip the "person", the most difficult part, if we don't want to do it. I love it. I just signed up for two more classes. :-)

    This was the finish product...

Visited the williamsburg location. Instructor Farrah was amazing. She went at a good pace and interacted with us. The playlist was also on point... everyone was singing like it was karaoke. I will definitely be back.

I found myself at Painting Lounge for a team-building event with my colleagues after an all-day meeting. I admit I am not the most artistic person (I voted to go out to dinner ;-) but I've been to one of these paint bars before and the picture turned out half decent (sort of, in a way). With that in the back of my mind, I was looking forward to letting some of my creative juices flow - while, of course, being told step by step how to paint the picture. I didn't see much signage for the lounge from the street - you need to walk into a residential looking door and go down a hall then up an elevator to reach the studio. Once you're actually up in the studio though it's very nice. There are two separate rooms with the usual decor - jugs of paint everywhere, tables, and paint splatters covering every inch of the place. There were around 12 of us so we were seated in the smaller room. The picture we painted was called "Empire State Building Starry Night", or something like that. It looked exactly like the title: van Gogh meets NYC. Our instructor Ryan was very good - he was pretty descriptive and also gave us permission to have creative control of the picture. He also let us play whatever music we wanted which was a nice touch. We were also allowed to drink, however the place is BYOB. You don't need to be artistic to enjoy paint bars like these - it's really about socializing with your friends and laughing at each other's pictures. Painting Lounge did a great job creating a warm environment where we had a great time.

The TL;DR version for those who have already made the decision to go: - Do shop designer sample sales to look just as chic as the daughters of the Middle Eastern elite and Asian jetset, but for 50-75% off retail price. (Download the Sample Closet app to get alerts on all ongoing and forthcoming sample sales.) - Do take advantage of classes offered by other New School programs. - Do apply to be an RA (Resident Advisor in the dorms) for the chance to get FREE HOUSING IN NYC. I REPEAT, FREE HOUSING. NO RENT, PEOPLE. (Also, your federal loans accrue less interest.) - Don't turn into one of those "Can't-Live-Without-NYC" New Yorkers. (Please refer to the excellent metaphor of self-imposed concentration camp victim and prison guard in the 1981 Louis Malle film, My Dinner With André.) 2. For those who may be on the fence about going: As a prospective undergrad, what attracted me most about Parsons --- besides its location in New York --- was its affiliation with The New School. This is one great advantage that Parsons has over other design schools that do not operate under the umbrella of a larger institution. Experimentation and crossing disciplines is an important part of the undergraduate learning experience. For my part, I took writing classes at Lang, filmmaking classes at the General Studies school, and had a bit part in a Lang theater production (SO much fun!). I also, with my team, won an award with LVMH and took advantage of the internship listings available exclusively to Parsons students, resulting in three years at a prestigious publications house. I humblebrag to make a point, which is that the possibilities and opportunities are endless IF YOU SEEK THEM. Otherwise, unlike a campus college, no one is going to reach out to you to offer you options, options that could turn into distractions that take you away from your studies. The Parsons experience is the city experience; you are very much a part of the fabric of New York, commuting and working and being broken into the crazy-busy life of a New Yorker just like the rest of its inhabitants. However, if you think that you need to study at Parsons --- or in the city, for that matter --- to get internships that will lead to jobs, that is not always the case. My first job out of college had nothing to do with my internships. And interestingly enough, my friends who went to schools in the city had more circuitous routes to their current jobs than friends who went to school out-of-state. These out-of-state friends didn't have any connections in high places; except for the ones in finance who were recruited at campus job fairs, the rest just applied persistently for their opportunities. The biggest con in my perception of The New School as an alumna is that it seems to operate more as a business and less as a school committed to the quality of its education. There are more adjunct and part-time instructors than full-time and many of them, I'm sorry to say, are incompetent and far too busy with their own careers aside from teaching to bother with their classes. (This would be marketed by the school as, "Learn from professionals who are connected to the real world," or something to that effect.) I suspect that whatever profit is being made is invested into its makeover in order to attract more students, and thus more money. As soon as I'd graduated, the school started calling me and MY PARENTS asking for donations! What gall! I assume selectivity rates are generally low, esp for international students who pay twice the already exorbitant tuition. If there's anything that my senior portfolio class taught me, it's that four years of design instruction does NOT drive good taste or basic design sensibilities into some students' heads. Even for a "to each, her own" kind of person like me, some of these final presentations were just downright embarrassing and did not justify the price tag on their education. I believe that true talent will find its way to opportunity, no matter which school you're coming from. You should consider Parsons only if you can afford it without taking from your middle-class parents' savings or from your future. Otherwise, consider a campus school where you can dedicate yourself wholly to your craft and enjoy being a kid for a little longer. You can apply for summer internships in the city and relish New York that way, without feeling burnt out.
