I really can't say enough positive things about John and his crew! When John came to give me a quote we discussed all the changes I wanted to make and I knew he was listening and understood what I wanted. I felt like I wasn't just another paint job, he really wanted to work with me to make things nice again. The quote was in line with what I thought was a fair price for wood restoration, removing an exterior door, new siding, new front door, new porch, and paint. TL;DR - John, Alex, and the crew went above and beyond to ensure the renovation was done correctly at a fair price. Very easy to work with. Quick advice for major home renovation - Pack, clear out, and cover everything not being worked on. This process can be rough. There will be new workers nearly every day, nature of the business. Thus, not everything can be controlled for. Also, read up about everything being done. For example, types of paint and what they are used for. The more I learned, the more I was aware what the best solutions were. My situation was that the house, built in the 70s, was well kept yet well-worn over the years. No major work or renovation was ever done. John was terrific in translating what I wanted into doing the work correctly. The best instance is a situation with a drainpipe. The drainpipe had rusted off and to fix it, it would require cutting into the drywall, which is why I was okay having them do it instead of a specialized plumber. I imagine most contractors would simply replace the pipe and patch the wall. Instead, they spent all day moving the pipe lower so that it would properly fit with a particular sink there. Very very good people. They were friendly, respectful and responsive. They came out to quote for the job within a day of our first contact. I needed them to put drywall and paint on a section on my living room ceiling that got water damage. However, we weren't 100% satisfied with the outcome. The paint looks uneven in some sections. There was paint splashed inside the AC vent duct, the cover was falling 2 days later and there was paint around my toilet seat, sink and handles Am not sure how it made it there since the paint job was in the living room. The ceiling section was about 12 x 15 feet. They did the job in 2 days for around $3K, which was very close to other quotes I got. Thank you for completing the work. I saw the excellent reviews on Yelp and called John for an estimate. It's the only one I got and I'm sure I paid more because I didn't get numerous estimates. But I'm glad I used them. You get what you pay for. They were very efficient and did an excellent job. They showed up everyday when they said they would and worked long and hard. They fixed all the minor holes and defects on the walls. The paint lines were straight and clean. They did a good job prepping. They taped and covered everything, but there was still a nice layer of dust left over. Not really a problem just extra cleaning for us to do afterwards. They made my house look fresh and new again. Having the exterior of your house painted is a big decision, and you really want to get it right the first time. This involves driving around and looking at other houses in your neighborhood, as well as getting color ideas from the Internet. I should preface this review, by saying that I'm a very detail-oriented person. My fraternity nickname in college was "Unger" (as in "Felix Unger"). I discovered that even the slightest difference in color or sheen, can make or break the look of your house. I literally took the good part of two years, trying to find the right color for mine. I was thinking of painting the house myself, but after seeing everything involved in the process, I am soooo glad that my wife talked me out of it. The first painting company we contacted, gave us a good estimate at first, but each time I asked about painting a window frame or door, the cost went up $75 to $150; by the time they were done with the estimate, it had increased to thousands more than the original quote. My wife found another company on Yelp called, "Painting Renovations," and she told me that they had great reviews, so I called them. Owner John Flores came to the house, and went through every detail of the process with us. He said that they dig trenches around the areas where dirt is touching the walls. They repair any missing Stucco, scrape loose paint off of trim and roof edges, and pressure-wash everything before spraying the paint. He said that they would paint everything, including the walls, trim, doors, eaves, roof edges, rain gutters, and down spouts. Because of this, I expected his estimate to be similar or higher than the first company's estimate; but it was actually lower than the INITIAL estimate from the first company. John has been doing this for a long time, and his sheen recommendations were spot-on; Flat for Stucco, Satin for siding, trim and gutters, and Semi-gloss for doors. We hired them to do the job, and if I could give more than 5 stars, I would. If you have read this far, I want you to understand that I am a veeeery picky person; however, the quality of work that these guys did, exceeded my expectations. The entire job was performed by two very talented guys... Alex and Oscar. Here is an example of how detailed they were in their work... They individually-taped each metal conduit coming out of the two service panels on the outside of my house. They taped little triangle-shaped pieces of painter's tape, to match the shape of each strip of siding on the front of my house (see attached photo), in four different areas. They cut tape to the exact shape of the metal lock plates in doorways (Including the rounded corners). Their Stucco repair technique was perfect, and blended exactly with the original Stucco. They covered every inch of area that was not getting painted, like my entire driveway, my porch steps, the concrete surfaces in my back yard, etc. They spent the entire first day just doing prep, and after spraying the primer and paint coats, they spent the entire last day detailing and cleaning up. They even scraped any stray paint drops on the windows with a razor blade, and then cleaned all the windows. When they were finished, there was not even one little thing that needed touching-up. There was no overspray on anything, and the paint on every window and door frame was straight and sharp. The quality of their work was at a commercial level. My house was built in 1947, but it now looks like a brand-new house! This is a long review, but the reason for it, is to explain exactly why Painting Renovations is so good... Thank goodness for John!!! The city of Long Beach said that we needed to maintain the outside of our home. The stucco was peeling on some sections of the house. Some pieces of wood were rotten. John came in, did the estimate, which was fair. His team came in, prepped our home, worked and finish the house in 5 days. There were two men working on the house. They were professional and very respectful. At the end of the day, john comes on sight to inspect the house to see if they're up to his standards. On the last day he stuck around and also worked on the house. They use Sherwin-Williams paint. Not sure if that matters. I only know this because it's on the sign. At least 4 of them scheduled appts with me and then didn't show, a few came in with astronomical quotes, and one even told me that I should have replaced our kitchen cabinets (after it was too late to do so), because they were crap. John was so sweet, and gave me a super reasonable quote for the job. He said that he was booked out for several weeks, but if I was willing to wait, he'd love to do the job. OMG, I reached out to Painting Renovations seeking an estimate for exterior paining, removal of acoustics on 2nd floor, and painting an area where I had overhead kitchen cabinets removed. Being a novice on pricing for this job I opted for multiple estimates. One estimate was from Carlos, for $7,900. He itemized things like exterior doors, security door, cracks, sanding wood, paining the balcony, and indicating that my eves would need to be the same color as my walls. He also indicated that he only used Dunn-Edwards paint. He asked me if I wanted flat or glossy paint. I wanted my paint and eaves to match. Yes, this does take more time. That's how it was and that's what I wanted. I could detect laziness from the other company. This was not the case with JOHN. John listened to what I asked for. He walked around my property pointing out things his team would take care of. Keep in mind my home was built in 1988 and the previous owners neglected this property. John also had no problem providing me with real examples of his previous work. He let me know his preferrence was using either Dunn-Edwards or Sherwin Williams paint, but was willing to use other brands of my choosing. I'm going to say this... You can get anyone to paint your home. The results from prep will be seen in the end results. John charged me $3800 to paint and renovate my neglected property. It was well worth every dollar. If I could rate him higher I would. Trust me, customer service, workmanship, attention to detail and active listening is very important. My primary language is English and I was happy to be able to work with someone who understood and provided "exactly: what I wanted.
