We had a quick decision to make on where we were going to eat. Pakwan happened to be next to one we were in thinking about. It's a great choice for a nice sit down meal. Not many people so it wasn't noisy. The host and waitress very friendly. My husband got the biryani with lamb, level 4 spice. I'm not a fan of lamb but it was tender and perfect for the dish. The spice was a good level as the dish is a bit sweetened. I got something called Bruni? - with chicken in a tomato based covering. Level 3 spice was spicy! I like spice so that's good. We also got the chick pea naan. Yum! Prices are reasonable for so much food! Added in was a beer and ice cream and the bill was less than $60. We'll be back! read more

I was in town for work and after a full day of meetings our group was excited to get out, relax and get some good food. We called ahead and they were able to accommodate our group of 15, with the table waiting for us when we got there. We shared our food family style and we ordered A LOT so I won't list them all, but we got lots of curries, naan, biryanis, butter chicken, tikka masla and veggies sides. They have a full bar so we were able to order cocktails along with beer, wine and various lassis. The staff were very attentive and we all left stuffed. Highly recommend. read more

One of the reasons my sin and I come here is because most Indian restaurants all have the exact same menu. Pakwan has some unique dishes like this salad. Typically it's delicious! We order it every visit. I was very surprised when presented and no explanation that they ran out of ingredients, just winged it. Most restaurants let you know and offer substitutions. This is something we order every single time we come here, so it's not something they could just slip by me without me knowing. It usually has garbanzo beans, onion, cucumbers, and potatoes, all chopped to very small cubes, with a tasty light dressing.Today the cucumbers were cut in half and just a couple of tomatoes, no potatoes at all. Tossed in a dry spice, no dressing. When I asked about it, he said they were out of the normal salad and this is what they have today and he walked away. When I first walked in, I was seated promptly as usual. There's a female server with long black hair, I've seen most every time I come in, and she was sitting in one of the booths closest to the kitchen, doing some side work. She had a bin of silverware in front of her and a tub of silverware that she was polishing, and she would throw the silverware into the bin creating a loud of noise over and over. The few tables that were already seated and eating, kept looking around at what the noise was. I stood up two or three times hoping that would give her a hint to quiet down. I finally said "miss, could you not throw the silverware? It's really loud?" She apologized but it was still loud for another 15 minutes while she was polishing the silverware. Maybe that's something that could be done back at the house? Just because of the acoustics, doesn't help in such a small place. She was very busy the entire time I was there, she was not my server, but I did observe her, sweeping the floors, busing tables, but while doing so, she would holler across the room at other staff members. Just not the experience that I am used to as often as we've come here it's usually been very pleasant. I truly hope that the salad will be made appropriately on the next visit and service with the staff is more accommodating to the atmosphere. I would really hate to give up this spot, but there are several other excellent Indian food restaurants around town. I also love Turmeric. Suggestion to the owner, could you please list the type of fish that is offered on your menu instead of describing it as "fish" My male server I had had no clue. This restaurant was very beautiful. We had really high expectations visiting. However, service was absolutely horrible, the worst I've ever experienced. They took forever to take our drink order. They were quick to serve us water but all the glasses were dirty and it took them about 15 minutes to come and check in to see if we wanted anything else to drink or for us to ask for replacement cups. Our food was very delicious. However, we had to ask the waitress 4 times for togo containers, we asked two times while sitting at the table and then the last two times we had to get up and ask for them ... I don't understand how they couldn't just hand over the containers to me while I was there asking for them. They also messed up our check and that took forever to receive. We try different entrees on the menu for different visits but often just order the same ones because we love the flavor and spice level. Great location, Great ambience with nice contrast of colors in the restaurant decor, beautiful lamps and nice decent wine selection which they have a display on the wall. I will NOT recommend veg biryani as it was not as it was suppose to be, i feel like it was more looking like veg fried rice types. Went little late with my group of friends still they accomodate us and did not rush us at all. The presentation of the food with the taste is amazing. Must try their malai paneer tikka with malai gravy which comes on the side. One of the best pan ice cream they have. The server was very young girl and she could not recommend options from the menu as which are most popular dishes. It used to be good but I wouldnt recommend it to anyone anymore. I always call and order it to go. On my last order, two weeks ago, my wife found a metal brush in her butter chicken. Today when I placed my order over the phone, the person got it wrong. I didnt notice it until I left and came back. They remade the incorrect order, but didnt redo the other half of my order. I waited 20 mins for my food to be remade and was given something extremely hot and then the rest of my order from before which is now cold. How is that acceptable? I love eating cold naan (sarcasm). Wow! I had never been to an Indian restaurant before, and the atmosphere here was incredible. We ordered two different naans--rosemary and truffle--and both were fantastic. For our main dishes, we each got the vindaloo: I had lamb, and my boyfriend had chicken, both with medium spice. The flavor was amazing, and the spice level was perfect for us. We also tried the Old Monk beer, which had a great taste. For dessert, we finished with rice pudding. I expected it to be a little thicker, but it was still delicious. We have been to Pakwan multiple times and have never been disappointed. The ambiance is pleasant and welcoming, service is great and food is always delicious. Tonight for our appetizer we shared the papadum platter. It exceeded expectations! Generous portions of papadums with cumin seeds and plain papadums (sprinkled with chaat masala seasoning and chopped cilantro) and mango chutney, tamarind sauce and mint/cilantro sauce. My husband had his favorite of saag with chicken (medium heat) and I had my favorite, Samosa Chaat. It's a generous appetizer that makes a great entree. We shared the Kashmiri Naan (soft, fluffy naan stuffed with cherries, raisins and shredded coconut). We usually get desserts (all are amazing) but we were satisfied with the naan as a sweet treat. Our Server JD was pleasant, helpful and efficient. We don't go out to eat all that often, but when we do Pakwan is our favorite place to go. It's always wonderful. read more

Have been meaning to try this place for awhile, long overdue. Came for lunch on Saturday, few tables full and the place was clean and delightful. Started with pakoda which were perfect. I could eat these all day every day. Sauce that came with it was amazing. Also ordered the cheese Naan and truffle Naan. Cheese was perfect! I mean, can you go wrong with cheese and bread? No. Truffle one was delish as well. Basically truffle oil and thinly sliced mushrooms. It was perfectly done. Entrees were goat biyirani which my companion loved. Very spicy with huge chucks of meat and a complimenting yogurt sauce. O had the shrimp tandoori which was tandoori oven goodness. If you know, you know. Not only the good is great but the servers are even greater! I had a beautiful experience there a few weeks ago. All of a sudden I became sick and could not enjoy my meal. When one of the waiters saw that, he came to check on me and showed real concern for my well- being. He went as far as forbidding me to leave if I am not well. We wanted some good Indian food and Pakwan was closer than our "go-to" restaurant, so we headed here for lunch. (They open at 11:30 am, BTW, not noon as the Yelp hours say.) We were greeted and seated immediately by a very friendly, smiling host who was also our server. The decor is lovely, yet understated, with lots of natural light (see pic), and the seating is well spaced and very comfortable. They started by bringing us the menus and a carafe of water and two glasses. The cold water sans ice was very tasty, but I also decided to order a masala chai, served hot and without sugar at my request (I like to add my own sweetener, lol). My husband let me order for us, so I started with Pakodas then ordered Butter Chicken and Bindi Masala for us to share. We also ordered garlic naan and paratha. The chai came out first and was very tasty. Then the Pakodas (veggie clusters fried in chickpea batter) were brought along with a sweet/spicy chutney dipping sauce. They were so tasty, the dipping sauce wasn't really even needed. My husband had never had these before, and definitely loved them! Then the rest of our entrées were bought out (see picture). The Bindi masala and butter chicken were in small serving dishes, and each of us was given a large bowl of fragrant rice. The different breads were in baskets. The garlic naan was especially delicious, being thin and crispy and well seasoned. The paratha was also delicious, but much less seasoned. The butter chicken was some of the best we have ever had. It was a creamy and savory sauce with tender chunks of tandoori chicken; we ended up dipping our Naan into it repeatedly. The Bhindi masala (okra like you've never had it!) was also extremely good, though not as sauced as others I have had. Everything was incredible: food, service, & ambiance! Let's start with the positive. Pakwan has some of the most flavorful and unique Indian dishes in town. Hariyali chicken kebab has always been my favorite dish at Pakwan, if you haven't tried it, it's a must. Unfortunately, this visit today was my last dine-in visit to Pakwan. I'll probably do take out in the future for my Hariyali chicken fix. It took almost an hour for us to receive our food today. I don't think it was the kitchen's fault as we observed four tables that came in after us receive their meals before ours finally arrived. I totally understand that mistakes are made, and I have the most respect for people who admit to and own up to screw ups. But what we experienced today just exposed a staff member who is obviously in the wrong career field. After we saw the third table that came in after us receive their full meals, we asked our server what was going on and pointed to the table that received their meal. That was opportunity number one to tell us someone had screwed up. Instead she told us that the table we pointed to only received their appetizers. WTFO? The gigantic serving platter full of entrees and side dishes was their appetizers? LIE #1!! She then told us that we don't need to worry, our food was next to come up. Next, we saw a server carrying a huge serving platter full of entrees. Did that server come to our table? Nope! The fourth party that came in after us just got their food. So there was LIE #2!! At this point, we decided we didn't want to eat here anymore and I got up to go tell our server to give us the check for our appetizer. But I saw a bunch of food getting ready to be brought to a table, and I asked if that was our food and she said yes. So I returned to our table and patiently waited. When the food finally arrived, I asked our server what had happened and why four parties that came in long after us received their food before us. Instead of explaining that someone had screwed up, she proceeded to blame me by pointing to the Hariyali chicken sitting in front of me and telling me that when I order dishes like this, it's going to take long. WTFO?! I've ordered Hariyali chicken every single time I come in, and it's never been the cause of delays for orders. That was the final straw. You want to blame the customer for ordering an item off of the menu? I told her to get the check and a bunch of boxes as I wasn't going to take anymore lies and crap from her. People dine out to have a nice meal and have a good time. The business will only suffer when we are lied to and get blamed for staff's obvious mistake. And here's a message to that server: I don't know how your younger generation came to believing that you should never admit to a mistake and that incidents are never your fault and should be blamed on others. And lying to cover up a situation is the worst as the truth ALWAYS comes out in the end! You've got it all wrong. People will actually regard you with respect when you are honest and admit to a mistake or explain what the actual cause of a situation is. Getting a manager to handle the situation is always a good option. The fact that a manager was never involved in today's situation tells me that management does not want to be bothered with situations. Unfortunately, we will not dine at Pakwan again. Zaika is also a great Indian restaurant in town. read more

Good food but the prices are really high for the quality of food you receive. Most times we can get a meal each from an entree and have left overs for lunch the next day. But here that's not the case. The tiny amount of rice you are given with the entree is sad. I realize inflation is hard on everyone but when you're paying $20 plus each, at least add an adequate amount of rice. I've been looking for a regular Indian place and can honestly say I think I found it. Conveniently located at Austin bluffs and academy, I was instantly greeted warmly and asked if I was dining in or ordering to go. I was seated immediately and within 5 mins my drink and appetizer order was in. Looking around, I found a beautiful and charming atmosphere with soft Indian music playing in the background. About 10 minutes afterwards, a large bowl of pakoda arrived. It was delicious, crisp, and great with the plum sauce. I then ordered only a garlic naan as I was getting quite full from the appetizer. That arrived about 10 mins later hot and delicious. Would definitely recommend this place. read more

There is a great selection of dishes and beverages on menu. We had the garlic Naan, the Butter Chicken and a vegetarian curry dish, cannot remember the name, but it had cauliflower in it.
