I've been looking for a regular Indian place and can honestly say I think I found it. Conveniently located at Austin bluffs and academy, I was instantly greeted warmly and asked if I was dining in or ordering to go. I was seated immediately and within 5 mins my drink and appetizer order was in. Looking around, I found a beautiful and charming atmosphere with soft Indian music playing in the background. About 10 minutes afterwards, a large bowl of pakoda arrived. It was delicious, crisp, and great with the plum sauce. I then ordered only a garlic naan as I was getting quite full from the appetizer. That arrived about 10 mins later hot and delicious. Would definitely recommend this place. read more

We tried this restaurant for the first time today and we really love it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience is warm and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is nice and attentive. There is a great selection of dishes and beverages on menu. We had the garlic Naan, the Butter Chicken and a vegetarian curry dish, cannot remember the name, but it had cauliflower in it. I've ordered twice from them since they opened, (take out) and the service and food has been beyond above the other places in town. The owner greeted me at the door with my order when I walked in. The food was absolutely amazing flavor, and quality, homemade sauces, I ordered the biryani which was delicious, large portions, had extra veggies. I got at least two extra meals from the leftovers, which still were full of flavor. The Raita is beyond delicious, I also ordered the Masala and naan. I have tried a lot of other places in town, as I've lived here for ten years, from the east coast, and I highly recommend this restaurant above others in town. I do miss the quality and home made food, back east has to offer, but this is an up and coming place that has the things I miss. A must try! We ordered Vegetarian Paneer Tikka Masala and Dal Makhani, each came with a tub of perfectly fluffy rice, also plain naan. Absolutely delicious. The paneer had a bit of mild heat but such a rich delightful flavor. The Dal Makhani was just irresistible. I might never eat anywhere else ever again, it was that good. The naan was perfect. I've had the chicken tikka masala, coconut curry, and lamb biryanis, all were absolutely amazing flavor wise. The samosas are to die for, too! I appreciate how you can choose how spicy you want your dish. Full disclosure: the highest level of spice (hot) is very spicy for anyone not used to spicy food. The service is very good, the waiters are very nice and attentive. It's also great how most of the restaurant is comprised of booths rather than tables, making this a great spot for a more intimate, cozy vibe. Overall, I highly recommend Pakwan! read more

We've been looking for a good Indian restaurant since we moved here a year ago. Thank you Yelp for alerting us to this place! The atmosphere was slightly upscale and we appreciated being offered sparkling water when we walked in. We ordered Samosas, Paneer Tikka Masala, Dal Makhini, and Truffle Naan. Who knew truffle Naan was the thing that was missing in my life. Everything was amazing. Prior to now, the Indian food we've had has been unbelievably bland and disappointing. I would have given a five stars if not for the wait and bad customer service. The waiter we had didn't care and since it was a Labor Day weekend, these workers might have been furious to work on the long weekends. I was traveling from SoCal and I happened to stop by this place. Me and my group wanted to try vegetarian choices as we have been eating meat all the time while we were in Colorado. We tried Pakoda but it was not crispy as we are used to. Nonetheless, we said why not, let's try the entrees. We ordered Punjabi Chole, Paneer Tikka Masala, Daal Makhani and Biryani. Among all, we liked Biryani only. All the other had very bland taste. Naans were not to be excited about either. I travel to that area a lot. I have tried all the Indian Restaurants one time or the other. I like the restaurant that is in Academy little north from there and they have been voted best every year for god knows how long because you can see the awards all over the wall in that place. I don't want to name it as it will seem like I am advertising for them (and they don't pay me for advertising anyways ). So first star is for decoration and outlook (nobody comes for decoration anyway but I have to give them kudos for the decorations and how it's been done) and second star is for Biryani. That's all I need to say. I don't think I will go out of my way to go there and try the food. read more
