I went to parlance playland and couple of days ago, if you plan to do more than five rides then definitely get the unlimited wristband. But if you just want to pop in for a bit then tickets are the way to go. If you go with the ticket option you can use those tickets for rides, carnival games, and arcade games. Speaking of games the arcade is quite affordable and fun, the prizes are marked up pretty high though. The carnival games are a SCAM! They cost nearly 5x the amount of arcade games and they are almost impossible to win. There are a few good rides here but if you get headaches easily don't do most rides. Sea viper and the hang gliders are fun thrill rides. There are lots of places to eat nearby too. Palace playland is also on the beach which is nice. Overall I wouldn't recommend unless you're at Old Orchard Beach. 3/5 stars read more

This is a great place to go if you've got a free evening and have young kids. There is no entry free and you can get an inexpensive ride pass for your kids to ride unlimited. That's what we did. The temperature was great (late August), my daughter loved the rides, and they even have fair-type food to round out the experience. And the view from the Ferris wheel? Gorgeous! Retro fairgrounds in a sea of okay food overall. Very casual and fun. Some clothing and such for the more liberal or for the angsty teenager who may want to rebel or just feel cool such as clothing in a pink shirt that supports medicine that not everyone may agree with or only within certain conditions. I liked similar t-shirts when I was younger and still do but I am more picky about what I get. If one random shirt was placed randomly in a more typically conservative tourist store or one random person was placed in a random upscale neighborhood, I might just think they are a person or thing with different style rather than someone or something that appears to be typically working class. Including a guy relatives saw with tattoos all over and a tank top- I might not have assumed so and so was working class if in a poshier environment. In the end, you realize that you only know more when you get to know a person more. Food where salad and vegan options are particularly limited. Being in this world reminded me that there are other little "nibblets" of fun that I am not used to. It had me starting to miss my cell and computer laptop games. Came here with my daughter on our visit to Maine for the summer. We decided to get 2 booklets of 50 tickets for $70 which saves us a few bucks. Wish when we were there the large coaster wasn't closed but appreciated that they gave us warning at the ticket window.. The rides were great. My daughter had an amazing time! They had a slushy bar where you could mix like 15 flavors. If you brought a souvenir cup you could refill it for a certain price. They had rides like the wave, the slide, the teacups, a roller coaster, the pirate ship, Ferris wheel and a huge spinning round one that rocked back and forth. The arcade was full of so many games! And at the end we cashed in tickets for some pretty cool gifts. We even had a stranger give us their card with a couple hundred points to add to ours! They had food located on the outskirts of it and there was this cute ice cream spot across the park. The restrooms are also located across the street We have a Playland in NY and it was nice to see the comparison. It was also ironic we this one is located in Old Orchard Beach when we too have an orchard beach area in NY. It is also the only amusement park in the NE located on a boardwalk. The beach is located right next to it (attached practically) and we paid for parking in the area. Definitely worth the time and memories read more

50 CENTS TO USE THE BATHROOM??? And its across the street??!! Just a heads up! A boardwalk on a pier with rides? Sounds like what coastal dreams are made of BUT... not here. I asked my husband is this what the Jersey shore is like or worse? It's not that it was dirty as in unkept but the patrons! Trashy. Drug addicts. We had 2 kids old enough to ride the big rides and I found it pricey to get them on three rides a piece but we had an infant with us so it would have been a waste to get a band as we had to keep a bed time. I stood in line with the kids for the rollercoaster and I didn't like the type of patrons that were surrounding us. I first hand got to watch why the process was so slow with the ride. First off- why have an employee standing at the entrance of the coaster as opposed to at the entrance of the line to measure kids? After waiting a half hour in line you tell people they are too short? What a waste of time and efficiency for PP's customer service. Also, she just didn't have all her marbles. She was extremely slow letting people on the ride and didn't help the guy who was actually running the ride at all. The guy running the ride took his sweet time as well. You have this line and it takes you probably 8 minutes to get people on and off between runs. It was very inefficient. There were a few rides closed- not sure why. Did the kids like it? Yes. Was it cool I got to see where my parents took me as a kid? Yes. Was it sad and disappointing? Yes. Is there potential? Yes. Head home before dark. read more

Happened upon this place on the way home and had a good time at this carnival? I don't think I'd call it an amusement park. Lots of rides for littles which was great but the prices like others have said, were too damn high! We didn't visit the arcade or play the games, we did the rides for little kids and the staff was friendly and sweet to the kids. These rides you don't have to pay to ride with your child: - Carousal - 2 tickets - Bumper cars - 4 tickets These rides you have to pay to ride with child (2 tickets) - Ferris wheel - spinning dragon The kid only rides were 2 tickets each: - big rig cars - motorcycle - cars - whales - We purchased the smaller book but quickly had to go back and get additional tickets. You probably want to just get an all day kids pass if they're going to ride multiple times. Parking is tough. There is street parking but it's sparse. read more

kids love the rides but i had a medical issue today while using our season passes and leaned against a game booth where no one was playing, the extremely rude girl working the frog hopper game on 7/14 at 12:30 berated me to get up as I told her I felt like I was fainting and could I sit a minute. I've never felt so disrespected and treated badly. I ended up throwing up after I walked away. it was an awful experience. she needs to be taught to sometimes give people grace and how to be professional. Sun Sand Amusements and Beach Food! Grew up going here with friends and my dad and have fond memories with my family. Lisa's Pizza, Fried Dough, Clam Cakes, ice cream, rides, fireworks. Over the years they have put money into clean up and keep it going which is nice. The salt air and winter can do a number to the buildings and grounds. The rides are pricey so I remind myself it is about the memories and just bite the bullet. My girls love to ride. Between the beach, food, and rides they are pretty happy campers. There are a variety of parking lots and parking along the railroad tracks. However, they have also blocked access to the beach so that you need to walk all the way down and enter mainly through the center. There is a fresh water spout for rinsing toes near the carousel. You can stay at any of the hotel/motels but many of them can have a min number of nights to stay. There are also places you can rent by the week or campgrounds with beach shuttles. read more

Almost a year into the pandemic, and the majority of staff and management still are not wearing masks or have come up with any alternative solutions. *IF* some employees have a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask, they should not be working with the public and putting all the families in danger who go and spend money there. This is a fun little place but the prices are ridiculous. For a full pass on all the rides it's $37. For a small carnival that's a lot. Especially when you can go to Funtown down the road. I also must mention the freaking claw machines are beyond rigged. Rusted, rickety, and the "safety" bar didn't even lock in place. Went to the carousel where my cousin and I were asked our weight, and proceeded to be shown a sign of the weight limit. Two stars as it entertained my 7 year old for the afternoon. My gripe is the exorbant prices for rides that havent changed in 15 years. $37 for a ride bracelet. That's nuts. Yes it costs money to run these places, but the jersey shore has bracelet days and only charges $25 for better, safer and cleaner rides. Ocean city even donates some of the proceeds to charity from their bracelet sales. Some of the rides honestly, felt unsafe. The new coaster, the viper had very stiff safety bars that didn't close all the way, and the teens working the ride did no safety checks. The log flume really should be shut down. You have to sit all the way up to front, tallest person first..I can see why as we nearly flew out. My daughter wound up under me and I sat on her....its just too rough and shouldn't work like that. I think they could make it better if they upgraded the rides to be safer and charge a more reasonable fee for the bracelets and tickets. $1.50 a ticket makes most rides $6 and up. I'm all for the novelty of rides by the beach, but not at that price. read more

Was up for a few days last week. Prices are great, Bought some 2 Day passes and was able to ride all day. I feel like when I was a kid there was way more rides, but maybe thats just me. I love this place. I'm fortunate enough to be able to go often, just to soak in the atmosphere. My only suggestion would be to stock more prizes with the Palace Playland logo on them. Everything else can be purchased at a discount store. My family likes to pool all our tickets at the end of the season and select a prize for my mom to remember the season by. By the way, the mechanical fortune teller is a true relic. There used to be an identical one in Iowa City Iowa. Wonder what became of that one. If you go there on an off peak night, be sure to park in a private lot. The town of Old Orchard Beach doubled the price of the meters to $2 an hour. For five dollars, you can purchase all day parking at a private lot and not worry about getting a ticket. read more

Busy? Not on the chilly and misty evening we were there. Expensive? Quite. Tacky? Yes, please. Three of us went, had a couple drinks and then tipsily wondered through the arcade playing air hockey, Big Buck Hunter, Galaga, and Mrs.Pacman. We got to smash into total strangers while laughing hysterically on the Bumper Cars. Toured the midway and enjoyed the bright colorful lights. We walked on the pier where we made fun of the pizza place's sign pointing patrons toward the "dinning room." And then we ate gross carnival food for dinner when we finally admitted we were going to give up on our trek to Portland for an actual nice dinner. I can imagine that this place could get horribly busy on an actual nice summer day. But it is what you make of it. If you go with high hopes, you'll be let down. The rides seem like they are kept up. There appears to be no set closing time as we walked around there until a little after midnight and.only one.or two rides/games where closed. I love the fact that there are still places like Palace Playland around. In the era of super-sized amusement parks like Six Flags, I love the idea of there still being a place that's just a tiny collection of rides and games you can wander through without having to pay $40 to step into the park. I love that it's in the middle of a bunch of other stuff rather than being it's own island accessible only by a very long drive. The rides don't seem to have changed much since I was a kid in the 80s. For that matter, neither have many of the carnival style games. The arcade is now largely ticket machines and a handful of racing games, since kids aren't going to spend the afternoon plunking quarters into Elevator Action and Double Dragon. The ticket/wristband prices seem a little extravagant for what you're getting, but overall I love it. The area seems both less busy and less sketchy than I remember it as a kid. I'm not sure if that's just my perspective changing or if it actually reflects the area becoming less of a trashy tourist trap. read more

Came here while we were on vacation in the area. I love places like this! The open air arcade kept me occupied for a solid 2 hours. Lots of rides and games to be played, as well as lots of food vendors for when you want something greasy! I only bought 8 tickets so my fiance and I could ride the ferris wheel. This is more of an overpriced carnival if anything. Lines were short so that was good! The games are an absolute waste of money and most definitely rigged! We had an issue with one of the water shooting games that my daughter clearly won however the game said someone else did even that person was like "how'd i win?" There was another family who had the same issue. And skip the arcade inside the prize table is a free for all and the girl who helped us cashing out our tix was so rude to everyone she encountered. I think we left with a freakin pencil and lolipop for 300 tickets . All in all it's good for older kids to go over when they get bored at the beach. read more
