    Puffy Taco with Shredded Beef
    Jen S.

First off why didn't wait so long to visit this location?? The place was super clean and we had a birthday lunch here on a Saturday afternoon and the place did not disappoint. We had a burrito plus enchiladas and a puffy taco. The shredded beef was bomb. Get down here and have yourself some fresh Mexican food.

First time here for dinner right around 5pm. We got seated right away. Their menu is decent, plenty of selections to choose from. While looking over the menu, we enjoyed thin crispy tortilla chips with salsa which we really like and has a little heat to it. I finally decided on entree meal #5 Baja with one taco and enchilada. It didn't take them long at all before our food came out. The plate was huge. I could of share the dish with someone. Taco was really good and was recommended by the waitress. This restaurant has been here awhile. Private parking lot next to building. Plenty of seating area and seem to be popular in the area.

Known spot for their salsa. Kinda busy spot Friday. All walks of life filled the spot. Been here since 80s. Sweet workers. Parking on side of building was free just small parking lot.

We went to this restaurant as a second choice. It was tight in the seating area but great atmosphere. Our server came over immediately and masala is what we would like to drink. She was friendly and knowledgeable of the restaurant menu. I had the gringo which consisted of three tacos, beans and rice. Thought it was good and would return to this restaurant. Fresh chips and salsa were good!

Food was great and plentiful! The chips and dips were nice and fresh. And of course the margaritas were delicious and strong! Server was super nice and kind and provided great reviews

What can I say?!! I wish I caught the waitress name that we had! She had several big tables before us & made sure to take care of us all. I mean she kept the waters full, refill's on other drinks.. etc. She communicated well & had great composure for how busy it was. We went out to celebrate my brother graduating from the Fire Fighter Academy & I'm so glad we chose this spot. The food was fantastic. Everything was yummy , fresh & hot. Customer service again was AMAZING! She even brought out my brother some fried ice cream on the house to continue the celebration (not pictured) & it was DELISH! I'm not sure why the reviews are low .. but from my experience & my family's we loved every second of it!

    Cheese Enchiladas

This place has absolutely the best chips and salsa but overall the food is AMAZING! The enchiladas, quesadillas, and tacos! Even best- they offer black beans which is often rare these days! Drinks were stellar and great price!

On the advice of a good friend who is an intercontinental cuisine expert we gave this well established neighborhood favorite a try on a relatively busy Saturday afternoon. Our server Lisa was an absolutely wonderful person and proud ambassador for the establishment. She shared lots of inside tips and despite the fact that apparently one of their primary cooks was out of the country we found EVERYTHING we tried to be delicious and very authentic. It is no exaggerating to say I enjoyed the best carnitas of my life. Lisa even commented that to her expert eye the color and texture this day was of their best quality. We loved the thin crispy chips and the house salsa had a nice touch of cumin that had us almost drinking the stuff. Our generous portions left us with lots of take home extras and can't say enough positive things about our first visit. Thanks to everybody at the restaurant!

    Kansas City style tacos

Not a single review could be written that would slow down business at Margarita's, and this post is one of them, but wait... there's more. I decided after years of tediously exploring the KC taco scene... at last count I think I'd been to 70 different places, some more than once, I decided to backtrack and educate myself on what's called the Kansas City Taco. If you don't know--I'm not a food historian, but I play one on TV--they appear to have originated in KC late 50s, early 60s. Mexican laborers worked along side Italians which created a storm of a fried, stuffed taco dusted with Parmesan because it was abundant and easily availble. That's the Cliff's Note version. You know how to Google, so get busy. Done right, it's a thing of beauty. So I came today because Margaritas was said to be one of a small handful of restaurants still cranking them out this way. I wanted to see and taste, and when I did, I went, "wait, I've had this around town before, just not in awhile." Like at Ponak's for sure, and maybe Manny's but it's been ages since I was there. Research must follow. But I digress. Back to Margarita's. I plunked down for lunch, the bartender asked if I need a menu and I said, "I'm here for Kansas City style tacos." A blank stare came across her face. "I have no idea what that is." Two servers stood nearby... I asked. Same response. "Don't know what that is." OK, but out they came, and that was what I was looking for. Note to Margarita's management: really... really??? So yea, whoever hires people here they give them no history on the subject. Sheesh. So like I saw Adam, a former Yelp community manager state, you might hate yourself if you eat a bunch of these. But what's wrong with that once in awhile? I had two beef and one chicken. The beef were sublime. The juicy meat, the crunch of the fried shell, the cool lettuce and tomato, the cheese... a banging bite of comfort food. But not a street taco, and I'm OK with that. The chicken was overly dry and uninspiring, suggesting the meat was in the form of some entree a day or two prior and got a bit dry. Just a hunch. No one would do that in a restaurant, right? But three stars, Yelp, really? Nah, the crowd that comes here, by dam, they don't come here expecting any of that 5-star crap! In fact, my taco card may be taken away for giving them 4. Gedddoutttahereyabum! Possibly my first visit here in 20 years. Can't say I wouldn't come back... those Kansas City style beef tacos are bad boys. With a beer or a margarita you could properly hate yourself for hours and want to repeat the following week I'd think. Now on to my next research project.

Not great, but far from terrible. I have been getting the chicken tacos for years. The chicken is shredded, it could use a little more flavor but they stay true to the same style for years. Always friendly service. They have great KC history with the walls showcasing the Royals & Chiefs. Also making note of how deep under water they were from the floods in the 90s. Solid choice for a family night out.

I just took a swing at it, picked up a menu, and stood there. It took a while for somebody to acknowledge that I was there. The person who took my order was super involved, which is cool, but they needed some help, and the person who came by to help them seemed to be rather impatient, so that was one of the first things I noticed. They do bring your food out in a reasonable amount of time, delivered to your table. You have a number that attaches to a metal wand that they give to you. So the water station is set up in the back, you get your own water, but they were out of cups. They had a really cool aesthetic to it, with like the garage door where you can see all the downtown. The only problem was that the sun went down, and it started to get rather cold. Nobody ever closed the door, but I ordered the Asada fries. 3/5 heavy on the seasoning, but not so much on the flavor, it came across. It's kind of salty. I thought it would be different than what it was. The portion size was fine, and the green sauce that they offer you on the side really makes it better. Also ordered the CHORI queso dip lied on the chorizo for the portion size. The flavor was also a three out of five. The chip that they give you with it has a nice, good texture and reasonable seasoning. My wife had the mushroom Tinga tacos. She gave him four out of five. She really enjoyed them. The atmosphere is cool. The weights staff are really cool. I'd consider coming back on a Thursday. They have this cool thing that you can try new and upcoming dishes, and then they also have brunch, so I'm thinking about giving them a second shot. The food was done at the quoted time and was accurate. The one individual I encountered was friendly. The menu was very straightforward-tacos, burritos, and a few other items, all can be customized. I had to get an order of chips and queso. I really liked their queso. It had good flavor and wasn't overly spicy. The chips were fresh and held up to the queso nicely. I'm definitely probably alway going to order this when I go. I also tried a taco with carne asada. The tacos are the street variety but they are really good sized. They don't skimp on the meat. And the carne asada was really good. No gristle or gross bits. It was chopped finely and I'd definitely order it again. I also had to try a burrito. I tried the El pastor for that and added on all the toppings-cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. I also opted for extra meat because it was super cheap-like $1, so why not? Again, I was not disappointed. I did throw my burrito on the good 'ol George Foreman when I got home because they don't grill it at all and I wanted some grill marks on that tortilla. Otherwise, the el pastor was flavorful and tender and the toppings were all fresh. Per usual, my eyes were bigger than my stomach so I saved half of my burrito, but it was a welcome leftover meal the following day.
