Palani Drive is a pretty great find - inexpensive and healthy. What's especially nice about the place is that they make the wraps reasonably interesting - I had a wasabi rice wrap, and my wife had a wrap with sweet potato and apple. Two friends of mine and I were visiting from out of town on Friday night and happened to come across this restaurant. I have to say it was absolutely amazing!!!! As a vegetarian it is refreshing to find a restaurant that serves GREAT vegetarian meals and not things just thrown together. I wish they had restaurants like this where I am from, that are affordable and amazing delicious. Also, our server was extremely nice. She was fun, quirky, great timing, quick and just overall fantastic. Have been going here for a solid ten years and nothing has changed, in a good way. They have always had great service, great prices, and good food. Smoothies are a must since they are actually reasonably priced unlike everywhere else. They have great wraps and quesadillas that fill you up and make you feel good. I tried this place last night and was very excited about a restaurant that has a neighborhood feel with food made using fresh ingredients. The menu is full of a wide variety of options for vegetarians, vegans, and meat eaters. From the wraps to the quesadillas, the menu had a variety of Asian and Mexican inspired dishes. Their prices are all super reasonable, especially since they make (almost) everything from scratch. The atmosphere in this quaint restaurant is quite laid back and casual. There were a lot of friendly regulars; some even suggested some of their favorite dishes to try. I really enjoyed the community feel of this place. Onto the drink options... They have an extensive list of smoothies with optional supplements to add-in. In addition, they have a full bar with happy hour specials until 9 (yes, 9). We went here for dinner before going to a movie down the street. It was nice to be able to have a few drinks and then just walk a few blocks to the movie. My fiancé got a sandwich and I got a salad. Both were solidly good. There was a nice selection of tap beers. There were some couples, some groups, some families -- a casual and laid back place. This probably isn't a place where it's so unique I would drive out of my way for it. But we would definitely go back if we were doing the movie thing again. read more

Lots of inventive wrap options are here, and good beer specials throughout the week. This place is something of a hangout for some of the University of Richmond students, and I can understand why. They have tables, booths, and bar seating, plus lots of options on the menu. Their setup is a bit out of the ordinary; during a typical lunch, you order at the cash register up front and pay, later your order comes out of a window where they yell your receipt number and you pick up. I understand that at dinner time, they have waitress service, but that's not usually when I'm there. There are only a few things I don't like about this place. First, it's their hummus. Not enough garlic or tahini, and kinda tastes like ground up chickpeas only. Second, considering that they're serving wraps, this place is a bit more expensive than your average wrap joint. Parking can occasionally be a hassle but typically isn't. They have a small hidden lot behind the restaurant, or you're stuck with parking on Libbie Ave. read more

I've always wanted to check this place out because I like going to places that aren't "commercial" restaurants. Overall, the food was just okay. The "grilled" chicken used in their wraps, etc. tastes alot like the pre-package Perdue chicken strips from the grocery store and they just heat it up. Palani Drive is hands down my new favorite vegetarian place. The staff is super friendly and go out of their way to be helpful, which definitely adds to the experience and makes guests want to return. All of their vegetarian wrap sandwiches sound delicious, and it's honestly hard to make a decision. I would personally greatly recommend the Durango, which is filled with beans, corn, salsa and spiced potatoes. The spice combo was absolutely perfect, and all of the fillings blended together perfectly, creating one of the best non meat wraps I've ever eaten. Although the sandwiches don't come with sides, you can add on chips, beans and rice, etc. to make it more of a meal. The wrap is super filling though, so you probably won't even need the addition! The soups are also really good! It's great to have a place with so many veggie options that doesn't neglect the meat eaters too. My favorite place in Richmond, for lunch or dinner. The wraps are fresher, healthier, more filling, and a better value than a Chipotle burrito. The Happy Hour drink specials are absolutely unbeatable at $3 for cocktails until 7pm. Tons of vegetarian options: pastas, veggie burger, quesadilla, wraps, etc. We've eaten here many times and rarely had less than a 5-star experience. The service is always excellent as well. This is one of my favorite places to go for brunch. The atmosphere is laid back and the food is phenomenal. I love the fact that they have a great vegetarian selection, although I am no longer vegetarian, I still appreciate places that cater to vegetarians. The reviews on here must be from family and friends, absolutely the worst service I have ever had anywhere!!!!!! We went in on Sunday at around 3:30 there was only 2 other tables sitting already eating. We were seated served a beer and never acknowledged again. There was 3 people walking around looking at us as if we were alien, after about 15 minutes we told them we were leaving they were prefectly ok with us walking out. Overpriced by half. No value for the food. Portions are small and everything, EVERYTHING, has tomatoes and Iceburg lettuce. Nothing resembles its namesake. The Philly Cheesesteak has little steak, nondescript cheese, few onions and lots of lettuce and tomato! After reading and hearing rave reviews of Palani Drive, I put it on my list of places to try immediately. I was severely, severely disappointed. I won't be going back. The website said that they had options to suit a gluten free diet. When I asked the waitress, she told me the only gluten free item on the menu was a teriyaki stir fry, which is questionable to me, because teriyaki isn't usually gluten free. She said any of the wraps could be made gluten free, they would just make a salad out of it instead of a wrap. I ordered the Shenendoah. I was not aware that by "Making a salad out of it" they would simply place the contents on a plate of spinach. I figured there'd be some sort of compensation for the lack of tortilla, more veggies. I received a plate of cold, hard chicken (three pieces) that tasted like it had been made days before, baked sour green apples that were extremely soggy (and cold) and doused with far too much cinnamon and the "gouda" cheese was definitely shredded cheddar. The sweet potatoes would have been delicious if they were hot rather than cold. I was disappointed. I had a stomach ache after eating as well. My boyfriend had some kind of fish taco wrap. He wasn't disatisfied, though the wrap leaked excessive amounts of water from it and the torilla was soggy. The best part of the meal was the expensive appetizer of edamame that I could have made at home. Save your money and go elsewhere. Especially if you are gluten free. read more
