When we walked in. we had 4 ppl and a baby and they directed us to grab a table and come back to order at the register. this was a great tip cause seating is limited for groups over 2. we ordered quickly and food took no time to come out. I had an egg and soy-sauge sandwich. I intended to order vegan but didn't realize the egg was real egg, I assumed it was vegan because my sausage was. I ate it anyway because I didn't want to waste it but next time will read the menu more carefully. Needless to say my egg and soy-sauge on an everything bagel was delicious with a side of fries potatoes and lemonade. I prefer OJ but they don't sell OJ. that was odd to me but the food was great so I went with it. I for sure will go back again. Harrison Street Cafe is a cool spot to go to especially as a VCU student being so close to the pollak building to stop by and get some quick coffee or some breakfast in the morning. They have little workspaces upstairs where you can just chill for a little bit and work. The staff there are really friendly and smiles every time I visit. I started going more recently, but I normally get the Texas burrito and I spend about $10. It's definitely worth the price considering how big the portion sizes are. read more

They also have good lattes. The workers are also very nice. I love to come here and do some work or to paint. Super friendly service with a fun atmosphere. It's got seating on the first and second floor with murals around. They have a pretty big menu of vegan and non-vegan options. I got a byo bagel with egg, cheese, spinach and a side of cream cheese and a lemonade. It is pretty pricey, I spent $20 for just a lemonade and a bagel sandwich. The salads are delicious. The "TLT" sandwich is one of the best things I have ever eaten. It is vegetarian, but I think it might be vegan. I cannot remember, as it has been a few months. I knew this place existed, but over the years, I forgot. I needed some breakfast quick and found them via Yelp (YAAAAAY!!!!). I called in a to go order for a create your own omelette. My omelette was to be filled with spinach, tomato, mozzarella cheese and swiss cheese. I was told it would be ready in give to ten minutes from the call. I arrived to the restaurant less than 10 minutes later and my order was ready. The restaurant looks small, but has a great vibe and atmosphere. Upon picking up my order, I noticed it was still quite warm. I drove to my destination and opened the container. The omelette was huge. It was still warm. Not too thick of egg. Stuffed with everything I asked for. I did wish there wasn't as much spinach because it overpowered the rest of the ingredients and hid them. Yet, I appreciate getting my money's worth. It was good. Everything was cooked well and perfectly. I would definitely come back to this place. I have added ot to my list, so I will not forget it again. The perfect vegan/vegetarian spot for a quick and easy lunch! We are visiting Richmond for the week and came across this cute little cafe while driving by VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University). We decided to grab some food on a whim and boy, that $?!@ was bussing respectfully. Sheesh! A friendly hostess came out on the street to greet us and take our order (currently, they are only serving take-out and pickup). We ordered a cheeseburger with non-vegan dairy cheese and a gyro, as well as the side of the day (which happened to be Mac salad mm). We were ravishingly hungry and gobbled the food immediately. The cheeseburger was delicious and filling, stuffed with all the fixings (cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles). The gyro was full of savoury "meat" and a delicious white sauce, served on pita and wrapped in aluminum foil (gotta keep everything in!) All in all, this is a great spot and I appreciate the accessible food options (can be tough out here for us vegetarians). Thanks for the yummy food and fast n' friendly service. read more

I've been going to Harrison street for years now, my vegan friend first brought me here (I am a pescatarian), we sat down & I loved how cozy it feels. I've gotten a few things from here iced coffee, iced lattes, breakfast sandwiches, soysage biscuit, gyro, led Zeppelin etc. I always bring my friends here from out of town, even the ones that DO eat meat & they love it! They don't even mind that everything is vegan/vegetarian! My absolute favorite thing & arguably the best thing on their menu is the gyro, I haven't had anything like it anywhere else! I love their vegan Mac & cheese but it's a special item so it's really hard to catch but if u do catch, i'd recommend trying it! read more

Harrison Street Cafe was around the corner from where I stayed and served as a reliable, friendly spot to get a vegan meal, a cup of loose-leaf tea or to just use the wi-fi. The vegan Soysage Biscuits ($2.25) are wonderful little marvels, with homemade, fennel-licious seitan sausage. If I could, I'd buy these in bulk and pack them away for quick snacks on-the-go. The vegan Gyro with homemade seitan ($11.45) wasn't as good, however. The pita bread sucked and the vegan tzatziki sauce had way too much dill. But the homemade seitan rocked it---I wish they'd use this to make a vegan philly sandwich or a vegan Italian beef hoagie instead. I also had a vegan chocolate peanut butter cup ($2.25) which was delicious. Harrison Street Cafe is a great place to hang out or get a meal. read more

Overall it's a "check the box" place and not on the list to return to. Food was okay and lacked a lot of spice/flavor. We had the gyro and the beer battered tofu steak sandwich. Ruffle type chips with the gyro and a macaroni salad side with the burger. The food seemed and tasted fresh Staff wasn't too enthusiastic - we were greeted with "its self serve seating". No hello or welcome. One had to go pick up drinks but food was delivered to the table - and you had to clean up your own dishes. read more

Harrison Street Café is known for being a staple for vegans and vegetarians. It's a nice space with great art on the walls, a very local feel. The upstairs is roomy. Cons- Most employees have poor attitudes and are unkind. The vegan faire is mediocre at best, but avoid the vegan biscuits and gravy at all cost. The homemade vegan sausage is terrible and so salty. During the school year I basically live at Harrison St Café. It's in the heart of VCU and not to far a walk from Virginia Union. Plus no matter how busy they are, the service is always great. The small building is normally packed full of customers awaiting good food and great coffee. Normally I get one of their breakfast bagel sandwiches with egg and cheese along with a dirty chai, then go sit down to do my homework. The only probablem with this place is I can't always rely on the WiFi working. Although, as far as I'm concerned that's a small price to pay for everything else they have to offer. read more

LOVE this cafe! Always great service and great food! Definitely one of my go-to's for vegan eatin' when in Richmond. However, I would LOVE to see less soy based products on the menu. There are many soy free "meat sub" options on the market now like Beyond Meat's products. Just Egg is an incomparable egg substitute that's on the market and while it has soy by-products, it beats eating tofu as a scramble outright. I'm not either and on my first visit to this popular coffeehouse, I was afraid there wouldn't be anything I would like. It was packed, and they do a booming take-out business to boot. I had a breakfast burrito and my first encounter with "soysage". I really couldn't tell the difference between the faux meat and the real thing. Not like fakin' bacon which has the consistency of microwaved styrofoam....the latte was really good and I took home a vegan blondie for my mid-afternoon sugar buzz. Their slogan is "good eats, no meats" and the menu is much more creative than a lot of vegetarian/vegan haunts. Beer battered tofu intrigued me, as did the T.L.T. Came in for lunch after not having eaten here for two years. I now remember why I don't go here. Harrison Street isn't bad, but compared to other cafes in the area, this one is easily not my first choice. I remember really enjoying how sweet and milky their iced chai was when I was last here, so I ordered my favorite tea/coffee combo: a dirty chai. It was okay. Didn't hold a candle to the famous dirty chai from Baked & Wired in D.C., though I'm sure Harrison Street Café isn't really known for dirty chai in the first place. At least I know to stick to plain chai next time. The vegan French toast is good. It's probably the best thing about this place. Without comparing it to regular old egg-based French toast, I'd think it was the real deal. If you're a fan of French toast (I'm more of a pancake/waffle girl myself) then you should definitely try it. They were out of the curried chick'n salad so I got egg salad instead. I don't have anything in particular to say about it other than it was an egg salad. I wasn't too fond of the Thai soba noodle salad that they were serving as a special the day I went. It was a combination of whole peanuts, edamame, and "Thai" salad dressing on top of (mushy) soba noodles. Long story short: they made a feeble attempt to work with different Asian ingredients and flavors with this "fusion" dish and it really didn't work for me. It reminded me of something that would be served at Shafer dining hall on VCU campus. (Admittedly this description sounds way more harsh than it should be. I wouldn't straight up say that it was bad anyway.) Overall, I've got mixed feelings about this place. That's about it. read more

Great coffee shop. I'm happy with my experience here. The staff is friendly and the menu items are quality and for a good price. The iced coffee is a delicious roast and is a mere $1.80. Another great thing about this place is that soy milk is free! The popeye is a delicious vegetarian breakfast burrito and is a medley of vegetarian sausage, eggs, spinach, cheese, and hot sauce all wrapped in a warm flour tortilla. It is something you most definitely should try for just $5 and some change. Yelp came to the rescue yet again, leading us to this kickass vegan coffeeshop - I had no idea Richmond had such a young hip vegan college scene. This place also reminds me of the Otherside Cafe in Boston. Dusky lighting, tasty vegan entrees, and a sweet upstairs where you can hide from or spy on your fellow patrons. With COVID, you can order right outside of the place, or you can make an order online like our group did. There's a lot of options, but truly you can't go wrong with anything. My favorite definitely is the bagel, but I think another top contender is the gyro. The food is always pippin' hot and fresh. Also, they are very generous with their portions. The bagel itself was the size of largest Bath and Body works candle. Moreover, the egg was STACKED, we are taking about a good 4 eggs went into making this. Good eats! No meats! If you're a veggie who enjoys eating more than just veggies, this is the restaurant for you. My go-tos are the French Toast for breakfast and the BBQ Tofu Sandwich for lunch, but if you aren't looking for a full meal, their bagels are also bomb. The atmosphere is arguably the best part of this place. The booths upstairs provide a great spot to cozy up for hours while you work, write, or watch Netflix. The railing around the staircase is lined with local newspapers, event flyers, and magazines. The employees are always friendly.
