WARNING: First thing when you check in, check if your fireplace is leaking gas! I would love to give this beautiful hotel a 5 star review but a traumatic experience with my friends last summer is preventing me from doing so. Specifically with the night shift front desk person. Our fireplace was leaking gas and we were told several times that it wasn't a big deal because "it was designed to smell bad at times" and to just "let the room air out". We tried that but the gas smell got worse to the point where we were nauseous, gagging, and dizzy. We got to the hotel at 10pm and were up until 2am asking to be moved to another room, having our calls ignored, having other guests helped before us, being told there were no rooms available, and there was nothing they could do. We were finally moved to a section of the hotel that was being remodeled and smelled very heavily of paint. By the time I was refunded for this completely unacceptable service we had moved rooms 3 times. I know this story sounds so dramatic but I can't make this up. We just had to spread the word so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. Please do NOT listen to anyone that tells you a gas leak is no big deal as prolonged exposure can be lethal. Demand a new room or go to a different hotel if you have to. We could have died had we not stood up for ourselves! read more

Location was excellent. Condo 805 was a large two bedroom with additional bunk space so like 3 rooms. Much larger than the other two bedroom condos. Front desk lacked. Expected VRBO or hotel style customer service and supplies or level of info, not there. No info shared on WiFi, heating (no thermostat), Hoyle type phone in room but no way to call front desk, most of kitchen locked up, three TVs but two remotes that had to be shared. Again location made up for it and powder. we are flexible but a slight annoyance. read more

My partner and I stayed at the Palisades inn over Labor Day weekend. When rrived we were so excited! It seemed like a very cute and lovely space. As always I decided to inspect the room before we settled in just to make sure everything was in order. We found a dead bug in the room, which I was sure was a bed bug. I am a biologist and have done research in entomology. I went to the desk with a photo. Before I could even say anything the desk attendant said "oh that would never happen here. This is the outdoors, and outdoors there are bugs." And the other manger suddenly appeared and said "what do you want us to do? We can't spray while you are in there." I went back to my room feeling uneasy but decided that if it was a bed bug the staff would have offered to move us to another room. I was wrong. The next morning me and my partner awoke to spots of blood on our bed. A tell tale sign of bed bugs. When we informed the desk they said they would change the sheets for us. We left for the beach all day and then came home to clean sheets. All good, No worries we started to watch a show on our laptop in the bed. I had to get up to go to the bathroom, and as I got up there they were. Red blood spots in the bed. My partner and I went the the desk to inform them of the situation and explained that we didn't feel comfortable staying in the room after once again having blood on the sheets. The staff offered to simply change the sheets and have someone come in to look at the bed for us. Then, two staff members came into the room and inspected the bed, confirming that there was blood on the sheets. We stated that we wanted a new room. We bagged everything into plastic bags and were escorted to another room to spend the night. We left the next morning, cutting our trip short as we didn't feel safe in a place that actively was dismissing our concerns. It also forced us to have to leave and cut our expensive biking trip at Northstar short, in order to get to a laundry mat and wash all of our items, vacuum, and clean the car in order to prevent the infestation from spreading back to our home. The main draw of Palisades Tahoe Lodge is its location, so for all of the folks who are shocked by the prices, you pay a premium to be steps from the slopes. There are a limited number of options this close to the lifts, and I think Palisades Tahoe Lodge is one of the best given its price, refund policy (not great, but better than others) and location. We've stayed at Palisades Tahoe Lodge a couple of times and have always stayed on the "older" side which is slightly closer to the lifts. One of the units we stayed in had a view of the mountains so we could see when the KT-22 line was starting to back up! Each unit is individually owned so you may get a unit that is a little nicer or configured a little oddly (we got one studio that had the bed adjacent to the kitchen), but all of the units have been relatively roomy. They all generally come stocked with coffee (+ coffee accoutrements), coffee filters and some basic cleaning supplies (sponge, dishwasher detergent, dish soap, paper towels). The lobby is newly renovated, and I've seen people have their dinners there (I'm guessing because it was too many people for the condos) or just enjoy a glass of wine by the fireplace. All of the buildings are connected by breezeways which are chilly but you are protected from the elements. There are hotel amenities like a hot tub, pool and sauna, but we didn't use any of them. During the times we've stayed there, service at the front desk has been inconsistent - some folks are super nice and helpful while others are not. read more

I was a bit disappointed with this place. For the prices you pay you would expect it to look a little bit more updated. It was like it was stuck in the 90's. A lodge with no fireplace in the room?!?! Basically I think the high prices you pay is for location. And yes location was literally ski right up to your door so it's very convenient. We stayed in a Deluxe Studio Condominium. The room itself has everything you might need and it's a good size for about two people or a cramped family of four. The bed was a bit uncomfortable. Great water pressure and hot water. read more

Our family (2 adults and 2 kids ages 10 & 11) wanted a last minute two night stay in the Tahoe area for some snow time. Although I was a skiier in the past and our kids have had lessons, we weren't interested in skiing - just having some general time to play and sled in the snow. We had stayed at the Squaw Valley Resort several times and when I called the Squaw Valley Lodge - I thought i was making a reservation at the Resort. The cost for a 2 bedroom suite seemed very reasonable for a mid week 2 night stay during Presidents Day week (also know as Ski week for many California schools who are closed for the week). My initial call to the reservation line was disapointing as the person who took my call was disinterested and didn't seem to hear my questions or respond to them. The rate they quoted was the same available on line. After not being able to answer some basic questions about the lodge he gave me the phone number for the front desk - as I wanted to talk to someone on property who actually had some knowledge of whether there was any snow on the ground among other questions. When I called the front desk I spoke to Mike (i'm fairly certain this was his name) who was super helpful. I asked a few additional questions, some of which he did not know the answer but was able to ask someone else and responded quickly. I decided to make a reservation and rather than call back the main line I went on line and booked a 2 bedroom suite. After making the non-refundable reservation I realized my mistake in that I did not reserve a room at the Squaw Valley Resort - rather it was the Squaw Valley Lodge. Oops. When we arrived there was a line to check in and two front desk agents working to check everyone in. After a short wait it was our turn to check in. The agent was professional and quick. He seemed a little stressed - but in all fairness it was busy! We moved the car to the building were our unit was located. Parking was basement level and ther was ample spots close to the elevator. Entering the room we were pleasantly suprised at the spaciousness of the main kitchen/dining/living area. There was a bedroom off each side of the main living area. To one side was a bedroom with a king size bed and an ensuite bathroom. To the other side was a bedroom with a fullor queen size bed and a bunk bed (twin) with an ensuite bathroom. The kids loved the bunk beds although the ladder provided was unsafe in the way the hardware was attached to it. If my kids were younger I would have been worried. There was a washer and dryer (which we didn't use), along with lots of great storage for ski equipment and winter wear. The kitchen was well stocked with appropriate kitchenware. The unit seemed clean and well maintained and wasn't too outdated in it's decor. Overall we thought the unit was a good value and worked well for our needs. I could see how the hotel would be excellent for those who came to ski as it's proximity to the ski lifts was great. I will add to this review some thoughts which is no reflection on the Lodge itself - but more Squaw Valley in general. We found, in general, tht the cultural of the area was one of white privlege. There were a lot of adults and kids who in my opinion demonstrated behavior that was selfish and unaware of anything outside of themselves. Skiing is an expensive sport and therefore does come with a sense of privlege. I was just really surprised at some of the actions of those in the Village and around the Lodge. My kids also noticed this and commented on both other kids and adults behavior. Overall I thought the Lodge was good value, clean and convenient. read more

I will begin this review by saying the property itself is very nice. My family's stay was enjoyable with ski-in/out access, hot tubs, and location at the bottom of the lifts. The 1-star review is because of what happened afterward. I was checking my credit card statement a few days after checking out and noticed a charge on my card that was not part of the stay or service fees. I called and found out that we were being charged for damages to the dishwasher and the oven. This was confusing to me since we did not use either appliance during our stay. I expressed this to Maggie in property management and we began corresponding to resolve this. *Note: Maggie was very friendly and cordial. On the topic of the dishwasher. Maggie said she can see how the dishwasher could be difficult to use and believed that we did not use it. She refunded that piece of the extra charge. On the oven. She said she could not do anything on that fee. I provided receipts of all the times we ate out and offered to get receipts from Safeway on our groceries to confirm that we never used or even opened the oven. I even asked for gas usage of the unit to prove my point but was told that it could not be provided. I requested check out reports from previous check-outs and none could be provided to confirm that the oven damage was not from a prior guest. Essentially, we were charged for damage that we did cause and The Lodge could not prove that we did. My 1-star review is based on the stay and for Maggie. However, there are many other properties in Squaw/Tahoe and I would prefer to stay elsewhere next time at a place that does not baselessly charge customers fees. read more

If you go in the summer time be WARNED they do not have AC. Yes it cools down at night but it's best to ask for a fan. On my stay they swore there was one in my room. NOT! I got the last one in the hotel it was kinda broken but it worked enough to move the air around. I stay there for 2 nights while working in the area. The room was well appointed: Full Kitchen Ironing Board and Iron without having to call housekeeping Good sized bathroom with a HUGE oval tube with shower Small kitchen but it was perfect for my needs - microwave, 2 burners, small diswasher, dorm fridge. They provided everything from dish soap to pots and pans (look in the entertainment center for cookery) Huge Dinning Room Table A sectional with a pull out bed The decor was bear mountain kitch. The overall feel of the hotel was an old school holiday camp. I used points for the room so the price was right for me. I'm not sure I'd spend $200++ a night to stay unless I was with a group that could handle the lack of amenities. read more

NO AC!! Unless you like your room temperature in the high 80's, low 90's, stay elsewhere during the summer. The resort is fine. I'm sure it's a wonderful place to stay during the winter for skiing, but avoid at all costs during the summer months. I actually stayed here on business the previous year, and had no issue with heat, but this summer was quite a bit warmer. Upon check-in we were told that there is no AC, and to just open the windows and allow the breeze to cool the room. When the temperature outside is anywhere between 95-100 degrees, there is is no cool breeze! At night, the temps outside were pleasant, but the room remained stifling hot all night. None of us slept much for the three nights we stayed there. At least there was an old oscillating fan in the closet. Had I known there was no AC, I would not have booked this place. With that being said, this is the only issue with this place, a huge one mind you, but the only one. The location is wonderful and beautiful. Located right next to the Squaw Valley Village and Aerial Tram, there are plenty of restaurants and shops right outside. I'm sure during ski season, this place is great. There are doors leading directly out to the slopes to the rear of the lodge. There is a large pool with two large jacuzzis outside, and a spa with indoor jacuzzis for the winter. There is a decent sized gym and two tennis courts which I didn't use, and even a ping pong table that my son and I used to get out of the room at night. The rooms are a bit out of date, but large and have everything you need besides AC. Our room had a kitchenette, with an electric range, a small fridge, full sink, microwave oven, and a dishwasher. The room came equipped with dishes, utensils, and pots and pans- really everything you need besides AC. I selected a queen bed, that was more like a full size, and the room also had a living area with a large sectional couch that accommodated both of our kids. Look, stay here during the winter. This is probably a four star during the winter, and probably cheaper than some of the other places close by. The staff was nice, and we had no issues BESIDES THE LACK OF AC!!!!! read more

We arrived on Monday 8/2/21 around 4pm checked In went to dinner came back water was running down the driveway into the street. They shut the water off to the building we were staying in. We were without water until 8/4 at 930 pm it came back on. We checked out the next morning. No showers or flushing toilet. Had to call to have a bucket of water to flush. When we checked out they said management would call us for compensation of a return trip in the future. We have heard nothing , no call no email. read more

Be very careful of your items. My son's car was taken on a joyride and damaged by one of their staff members. His snowboard worth over $1,000 was also taken from the employee locker room. They have ignored my requests for resolution. Even though I reported the problems to the company, they have decided it's a civil matter and they refuse to review their cameras. So to anyone traveling to this location, lock up your keys, items, and equipment or better yet, pick another establishment. read more

We've stayed here many many times and it seems they may have re done and updated the rooms. It was an absolutely wonderful experience! The room was nice and newly renovated the bathroom was gorgeous with a nice tall shower, marble countertops. The kitchen had a full size stainless steel fridge. There were two things I would note for improvement but not large enough to deduct from the stars. First, the blanket for the couch bed had hair on it and so we got a new one from the front desk with the same issue, it seemed hair just sticks to that kind of material, it happens, we were given a brand new blanket that was totally clean because we opened it. They were very kind and accommodating. Secondly, the hot tubs could've been warmer, then again I'm sure it's hard to keep them warm when it's 8 degrees outside. Overall fantastic experience!! I've stayed here 2-3 times and it was always so expensive. We never really felt like we were getting our money's worth. I am a huge fan of Squaw Valley Lodge! I think it's the best place to stay in the Squaw Valley Resort Area. We've been here countless times over the years - and it's always a great time. If you can score an internet deal - the prices are very reasonable! We just stayed in a Studio for $118/night (includes free covered parking, free wi-fi, no hidden resort fees, in-room kitchenette, big bath tub & shower, gym, wet & dry sauna, hot tub & pool, and.... a ping pong table!). Location is RIGHT at the slopes for ski-in/ski-out convenience. You can easily spend the morning on the slopes & hit your room for lunch - then get back up there in no time! Staff is pleasant & helpful. We checked in early, with no problem! Getting a later check out can be tough - but they've always let us use the facility/lockers for the entire "last day." Nice - so if you want to ski on your last day - you can still come to a warm dry place for a hot shower & change of clothes before the drive home. The studios are perfect for two. Everything you need & more. We splurged for a 1 bedroom in the past - but never again. It was fine, but the studio is more than enough space/amenities for two! Each studio is a little different & the walls are pretty thin. We like the ground floor (and ALWAYS request it) for ease of access to the slopes... but you get more noise from the upstairs neighbors. You also get less privacy - as your windows face the mountain and people are constantly walking by. We're totally okay with that, though! If you're not - just ask to be off the ground floor. The other levels have great views, more privacy, and a little less noise... you just have to lug your skis into the elevator. ;) Hot tub isn't super hot.... it's a warm tub in MY opinion... but it's clean and comfy. The beds are hit & miss. The most recent stay had a super hard mattress... but the room was great otherwise! We've had other rooms with comfortable mattresses... they're all a little different. Wi-Fi is free (ask for the access code), but it's spotty - again, depending on your room! All and all - this is the best place to stay at Squaw in my book! Can't wait to return... We felt like we were in the heart of Olympic village. Everyone we met was so nice. The snowboarding was awesome especially since it was our first time. I got a great deal on hotels.com for my 2nd stay at Squaw Valley Lodge. I didn't realize the condos were all individually owned but I've had great luck with the studio suites I've been in both times. This time I was in #238, which was lovely. It had a super comfy L-shaped sofa, a shelf of books, stocked kitchenette (paper towels, pots, pans, utensils, etc.), dvd player, and a fan (which I discovered after being hot all night, oh well). Olympic Village is DESERTED in May but it was very peaceful at the lodge (I think we saw about 5 other guests total the whole weekend). The whole area was quiet and peaceful actually, which was perfect for a nice relaxing weekend. read more

Upon reading others reviews, it seems that there may be a discrepancy based on where your housing is situated and the time of year you visit. I am currently staying at Squaw Lodge (summer time) as my husband is running Western States. The starting line is a three minute walk from our building. The Lodge is very amenable and provided an excellent quality group discount for runners who booked early. The staff who assisted us with check-in were very friendly and welcoming. Our 4th floor room in Building 3 is very modern- it is a beautiful, large room with a stunning view of the mountains and a balcony overlooking a pizza restaurants. The lodge is atop the milieu of shopping establishments in Squaw Valley, so depending on where your room is located you may find ear plugs provided by the lodge to make your stay more enjoyable. I haven't had any need of ear plugs. The separate bedroom has a nice, large, comfortable bed with an assortment of goose down pillows. The room has a large kitchenette with full dishware, refrigerator, and dishwasher making it highly desirable for a long-time stay. The couch in the living room has a built in pull-out-bed which could be handy if you are traveling with children. There is a large wooden table and benches in the dining area, as well as two large televisions: one in the bedroom and one in the living room with a dvd player. As it happens, I don't watch tv so I have no feedback regarding if they work or not. The bathroom is beautiful and very clean- slate floors and marble counters! The bathtub is a large sunken tub. The deliciously scented shampoo and deep conditioning conditioner are Gilcrest & Soames, a British company made in America. There is a co-ed jacuzzi and sauna available, a media room with comfy-looking chairs and large screen, a children's room with board games and other entertainment, as well as personalized access to the underground parking garage (keeping my car at a good temperature during the afternoon sun aboveground). There seem to be a multitude of amenities provided during ski season: package deals, ski lockers, and the room itself has numerous large hooks for winter coats, etc. Summer time packages include gondola rides up to the Olympic headquarters, with restaurants, pool, spa, and amazing views. The downsides I noted pertain to laundry. The guest laundry room was closed during operational hours, and there wasn't a bag in the closet to have the hotel do the laundry for a fee (that I noticed). This is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic, central location- minutes by car to Lake Tahoe, walking distance to the mountains, biking distance to neighboring communities. If I had the money, I would easily return for at least one week if not two every summer to stay here. Tip: Some rooms have ACs, some have fans, some have both. You may request for one, both, all, or none. read more

The hotel location is ski in/out which is convenient. The lobby looks nice renovated, but the room that we checked in is completely opposite. Parking is convenient. Hotel amenities include sauna and steam room. The negatives are the room was very outdated: walls, floors, sofas are dirty, and bathroom, toilet was not completely cleaned with stains, urine everywhere, bathtub curtain dirty. Windows have cracks. They charged $$$ and cannot update furniture, repair and clean room properly??? The chairs have holes, bathroom door has cracks, towel hook was broken, and the door looks very dirty and looks like it was never painted or repaired since 60s. The lamps in the room are not working. The celling in the bathroom has cracks. The pillows are very bad (we brought our own otherwise I would not been able to sleep). It is disgusting and upsetting. read more

We just returned from a week, in the summer, at Sq aw Valley Lodge and it was perfect. If you ever, and I mean ever, go to Lake Tahoe, stay at least three nights in Squaw Valley Lodge. The rooms, that's what they call them but they are really privately owned Condos, was beyond your wildest dreams. We opened the door and thought there must have been a mistake, all for us? Two rooms, kitchen, a bathroom that equalled The Venetian in Vegas, all with a spectacular view of the mountains and chair lifts. Our nightly rate was just over one hundred dollars a night!!!! Compare that with the dumpy motel rooms down by the lake. We scored. I can go on and on about the pool area, the best pool, jacuzzi, workout room, sauna, steam room, locker room, I have ever seen. This place was walking distance from the Village with restaurants, shops, and tram ride. In conclusion, this place was designed by skiers and naturalists to be a slice of heaven. Did I mention they have a very strict "no smoking" anywhere near the resort policy which is highly enforced. The place is for those who care about their health and nature. Possibly the best ski destination in California during the winter and a lot of fun in the summer. read more

My family and I have been staying here for years and we loved it! It's cozy and quaint and not too busy. However, seems like they've not recovered from the pandemic. The rooms are hardly cleaned or dusted most of the time, the normal amenities all rooms used to come with like games and books are gone. Booked this hotel for me and my boyfriend's first ever skiing trip after reading some good reviews and decided to go for the deluxe condo. We arrived in the midst of a snow storm, apparently the 3 days we were there Squaw received the most snow they'd had all season! Anyway, back to the review, as it was pretty darn cold, I was hoping the room was going to be toasty warm...and it was!! The heater was amazing and the bed was so comfy! My only qualm was that the heater was a bit loud when it came on, but I am a light sleeper and I was a little jetlagged. The location was perfect, only a few minutes walk from the main village which was pretty handy. Looking forward to coming here on my next ski trip, I just hope the snow eases up enough for me to use the hot tub! read more

This is great place to stay in for skiing in the winter. Back door will get you right at the slopes. No walking and carrying the gears! Not very luxurious, but rooms have everything you need. Stayed here few times and planning my next visit to Squaw Valley already. Too bad jacuzzi and steaming room not working right now, but we have to obey rules and stay safe these difficult times. Great location near the slopes and village. There are plenty of hot tubs and a large outdoor swimming pool that is heated most of the year. We (2 adults and 2 young children) slept in a 1 br, which also fits a family of 2 adults and 3 young kids. The apartment had a nice kitchen, with almost all needed appliances. An oven was the only thing missing... The staff was very nice and helpful - they let us check in at 9am (instead of 4pm) and check out at 12pm (instead of 11am). Drove up from SF very late Thursday, easiest check-in ever with protected unloading area. Out unto the ski trail @ 8:30A, a few steps to the ticket office. Next day to Alpine Meadows, a easy free bus ride letting us off right at the front door. No parking lot walk. Yea the room is a little dated, but it was clean and was cleaned by a great staff. Skied back to a hotel entry door 50ft from my room. Outdoor hot tub and pool was great. Also, indoor tubs as well. Wifi a little slow, but we were in the room that often. Close enough to the center of the village, not so close to hear the crowd. Great places to eat and get a quick breakfast. A small grocery as well. read more

Squaw is beautiful, this hotel not so much. There is no Air Conditioner 'but it cools down at night.' The rooms are stuffy and have no circulation. There are no fans. Promises of fans but no fans. Staying up all night because it is too stuffy to sleep. Not the best way to spend a small vacation. I would certainly still plan to come to the area but do not stay here. read more

Considering it was 10PM and dark, we had no problem finding the place. Check in and parking was a breeze. The room itself was huge and since we had a kitchen, we were able to cook a home made meal on a road trip. Room was very clean. In laws and kids were in shock with the size of the room, it was a welcome change from the smaller rooms we had stayed in for the past few days. Deducted one star from the climate system in the room. It was very warm in the room (thermostat said 82) and there was a sticker on the thermostat that said "Do not turn off heat." It's summertime, I don't want the room hot, I want it cool. I understand not turning off the heat during winter, but not in the summer. Had to open the windows to cool off the room, but ended up with mosquitoes in the room since there was a pond right behind our room. read more

Location, location, location. Squaw Valley Lodge isn't super glamorous and their service wasn't always the most polished, but it's hard to beat their ski-in/ski-out location. Also having a kitchen in the room was great, especially for scarfing a quick breakfast before hopping on the slopes. Maid service was reliable and would even tidy up our kitchen mess (by putting dishes in the dishwasher, etc). While it's certainly no Ritz, if you're headed to Squaw i think it's a reasonable option. read more

Wifey and I revived an old P. family tradition (one that Wifey had never taken part in) and spent Christmas skiing. The Lodge at Squaw Valley was our base of operations. Initially, I chose it because I like the convenience of staying slope-side. As it turns out, we used it for slope-side skiing exactly one of the three days we stayed there. The Lodge is totally fine. It has ample hot tub space for apres ski muscle relaxing (BTW, most doctors and trainers agree that anything more than 30 minutes is actually detrimental), including both indoor hot tubs (for sane people) and outdoor hot tubs (for those descended from Vikings). It has reasonable parking space. The staff are helpful and friendly. But, the place is almost $300/night, and I basically expect all of these things from a glorified hotel room that costs that much. And while the Lodge met my expectations in almost every category, it didn't exceed my expectations in any category. Plus, if our bed really was a queen, it's the smallest queen I've ever seen. Like some kind of Luxemborgian queen. Or, more likely, a kween. And I have a sneaking suspicion that the big door in the bathroom that was locked hid a washer/dryer, and locking away such an appliance so that skiers can't use it is not right. Bottom line: next time, I'll stay someplace farther from the slope, closer to the bars, and let the shuttles that circulate constantly pick me up. Or, I'll park the German Love Machine in one of the giant parking lots that all the local ski slopes are equipped with. read more

Staying here now for the 3rd year and have not been disappointed! Staff is friendly, rooms are spacious and good value especially for being ski in/ski out. Gym and hot tubs are a nice bonus! read more

This place is T I R E D. We refused our first room since it was so funky, and the second room wasn't much better, although it was a bit larger. All of the condos are individually owned, so you basically get a big surprise when you open the front with regard to furniture/furnishings. In this condo, the beds were so frigging hard it was difficult to get a good nights sleep. The living room didn't have any table or floor lamps, just VERY BRIGHT FLUORESCENT OVERHEAD LIGHTS that made you look green. We were wearing our sunglasses inside any time we were in there. The bathroom was pretty standard and had decent toiletries and fluffy towels, and the fully stocked kitchen was a plus. The meeting room that we used was another VERY TIRED room, and the catering - from Wildflour - featured under ripe fresh fruit, very sticky and damp danish, and not enough of it for what we were paying. Jeeze. It was kind of weird, since I had a breakfast bagel the very next day at Wildflour, and it was delicious. I guess their strength is not in their catering skills. I also had a massage there from one of their on-call therapist. I wasn't expecting anything fancy, but the massage room was basically a large linen closet and was freezing - not very conducive to relaxation. I was eying the hot tubs, but decided against going in when I realized they were co-ed and my (male) co-workers were blissfully soaking their privates in 'em. Ack! read more

Super place to stay as it is right on the mountain. You can ski right to the resort from the lifts. Hots tubs, pool, saunas are excellent. And, the gym is well equipment and is close to every room on the property. Free coffee and tea are available in the reception area. Close to all restaurants and entertainment, too. read more

Very nice accommodations. HOWEVER they nickel and dime you for everything. The basic internet doesn't work, and you have to pay for legit Internet. Also charge a $60 resort fee on top of the reservation. I asked about it, is for "use of the facilities" so shouldn't Internet be included as part of that fee? It's just lame they can't just include those standard services as part of the room rate. Really? I was pretty irritated by it. The staff was not overly friendly either. It's what you'd expect from a resort town. Not awesome. I spent $700 for three nights here... Not worth it. And I'm not tough to please. Save your money and go somewhere else. Also, there is no air in the rooms. Bad for summer! read more

Squaw Valley Lodge is actually kind of wonderful -- you can find a fancier accommodation in the North Lake Tahoe area or Squaw Valley if that's what you want. But if what you want is comfortable, slightly homey, friendly to kids and families, and has a staff that cares you should stay here. Oh, and the massage is killer. Read on. First, don't expect the latest. The rooms are a bit shagadelic, but well-kept. The TV is upgraded to flat screen and the microwave is modern but the range is 70's-tastic electric and the lighting is track. Replace the nubby carpet with shag and the tasteful-yet-generic woodland paintings with something Dark Side of the Moon and you'd have a killer 70's pad. There is free WiFi and it seems to work, though not at breathtaking speed. Don't expect your phone to work if you have Verizon service. ATT seems to be adequate. So why do I give this place five stars? It's because every member of the staff I've interacted with actually seems to care about their jobs, has followed through on promises and has gone out of their way to be helpful. Every. Single. One. That is rare in the modern service economy. Why this review? This is actually the second time I've stayed at Squaw Valley. The first time I had a great experience but thought it might be a fluke. That was a year ago, and not only did I have a great experience this time, the staff appears to be largely the same -- a good indicator of a good place. This time, on a whim, I ran off to Squaw for a short weekend. I wasn't planning on staying at Squaw Valley but I found a reasonably priced (by North Lake Tahoe standards) room in the lodge. Also on a whim I booked a massage. I didn't have high hopes for the later but I really needed some body work. Side note: I've studied massage, I do a fair amount, and I know good body work. I'm also picky, as I like technical and intense deep tissue work that many therapists aren't willing or able to pull off. I got a session with Ulricka, who turned out to be awesome. I don't say that lightly. Also, massage rates here are cheap by resort standards-- $110 for one hour of first-rate work. Not only that, the resort apparently treats its therapists well, which not every place does. So, come for the ski-in, ski-out, reasonable rates, family atmosphere, outdoor hot tubs and excellent staff. Stay for killer massage and easy access to Squaw Village, which is pricey but charming and has a happening nightlife. Oh, and you are right by the Squaw Valley Ski Resort, which has the biggest mountain, best terrain, and best snow in Tahoe. Yes, you pay for it but it is still less expensive than North Star. read more
