First time experience. Was able to receive a warm welcome and tour of what the location offered. The young lady that assisted me was great at explaining each plan that made it easy for me to select what I needed. She also showed me how to operate the tanning equipment and what each button would do if depressed. Very happy to recommend this location due to the staff. Facility is very clean and bright. They also have restrooms for the clientele. Note that the Exterior areas of the shopping area is under construction / upgrades so you will have to enter directly from the front. This place always has extremely long wait times, seemingly due to understaffing/negligence. Yesterday when I went I was told I could not get a spray tan because all the booths were full and by the time they would be done it would be after closing. I explained to the employee this was dire circumstance as I was leaving for vacation the next day. The employee was unsympathetic and inflexible and turned me away. Why am I being penalized because all the booths were taken? Super frustrating. Meanwhile, at another location a similar instance happened and they let me tan after closing time since I arrived before they closed. I had a really good experience here today! I came in for the spray tan membership and was greeted promptly. I was nervous because I've never had a spray tan before. The girl that help me was extremely nice and walked me through the whole process. In addition her colleague, the gentleman with the piercing blue eyes, was really helpful as well. I was a Darque Tan customer for a decade prior to PBT buying them out. Because of this, I was grandfathered in with a low rate. I didn't have much of an issue until Corona Virus 19 of 2020. They closed during social distancing, of course, but to keep my rate I was required to "Freeze" the account, and pay $8.25/month just to keep my rate. My gym (Lifetime) froze my membership without charging until they reopen, so did my carwash membership at Mister Carwash...how can you justify charging when it's beyond anyone's control?? I tried calling, got voicemail so left a message requesting callback, no callback. I emailed twice with my concerns, received no direct reply or callback, just an account update and notification I would be charged. The establishment is decent, the company policy and customer service is abhorrent. read more

This establishment has gone down hill. Every time I go, the barrier cream is empty, the rooms aren't stocked properly, and they pull the label off of the product when they're off of what you request. For example, the cabinet was filled with light and medium (for spray tan), I request dark and there's none in the cabinet, yet they have one they're giving me without a label. It wasn't dark, I didn't get the tan I would get with dark. The barrier cream was just about empty and the pump was broken, which they would've known had they taken the time to check products. My wife and I recently moved to Alexandria from DC. We're heading to the Caribbean in a couple of weeks, so we wanted to get a couple of sessions in a tanning bed beforehand. Palm Beach Tan is right down the street. Being non-members, we called first to ask if they were busy and if this was a good time for a non-member to come by for a walk-in session. They said absolutely--it's not busy and walk-ins are always welcome. We were there in 5 minutes. Miriam and Bailey were working. There were two people ahead of us in line. While we were waiting, three people arrived behind us. When it was our turn, we said hi, we're not members yet, and today we each just want to do a one-time Gold-level session. Miriam said she didn't think Gold would really do anything for us--we wouldn't be dark with just one session in a Gold-level bed. I said that's fine, we're heading to the beach next week. She said here why don't you look at the menu and see our other options. Then she ran off down the hall to assist someone. Miriam came back. I said, "Ok, so we're still fine with Gold for today." She said, "Well...ok--can you wait while I take care of our members first?" And immediately went to the open register on the other side of Bailey and called for the person standing behind us. In the meantime, Bailey finished checking out the person she'd been helping. She then looked at us...and then past us, and said, "Next person, please." We were about 14 inches away from her face. We stood there for another few awkward minutes. Miriam logged in her member, and called for the next member, avoiding eye contact. So at this point we were not feeling like the most valued potential customers in the world. I should stress that there was never any kind of an argument or rudeness, and we weren't asking for anything complicated. We had watched three members pass ahead of us, and there were now two more people behind us in line, whom we assumed would also be ushered forward if they were members. So we silently turned and left. I glanced back to say goodbye, and saw both Miriam and Bailey quickly avert their eyes and pretend they weren't watching us leave. Is it really that hard to hand a walk-in a consent form to sign, and take their money? Here's the thing: generally, a business gets Members by serving people who are, initially, Not Members. Kindof a tricky concept I'll grant you, but...it's how things work. read more

AWFUL EXPERIENCE! Went in today and dealt with a girl named Hunter kind of short, blonde hair, orange complexion. She was VERY RUDE when I was checking in to tan and cut me off mid sentence and snapped at me "you're in room 19". When I finished tanning and was walking out Hunter had a full line of customers and obnoxiously screamed "SEE YA" across the salon as I was walking out to leave. When I called the salon and asked to speak to a manager she answered and mentioned she was a manager. I informed her the complaint was about her and she immediately became snappy and rude when I asked when another person would be in that I could speak to. As someone who has worked in a tanning salon and customer service jobs I have no clue how this girl is employed with how she acts and treats customers. WILL NEVER GO BACK. read more

It's really upsetting when you live right down the street and just want a membership and feel like you are an inconvenience to the employees working there. What should have only taken max half hour lasted almost an hour and a half. What was even worse was once I was finished finally getting a membership, my friend waited longer just to tan. She even overheard the employees there talking about how much they hated their jobs and how understaffed they were. Ok, I get being understaffed and needing to do more work but saying out loud you hate your job???? There was a new girl in training that night so I get it was her first time signing people up but Bailey basically sped through everything while helping other members..I counted maybe 5 or 6 people they each helped in front of me and my friend. All we wanted was a membership and not to be treated the way we were. I will not be returning to this tanning salon and I will also not refer anyone to this location. Luckily there are other Palm Beach Tanning Salons in the DMV area but its unfortunate like I said that I live down the street and now will need to travel just to get the customer service you pride yourselves on. read more

My experience in the Alexandria Store was amazing until today. My bad review is specifically about a woman, and I think her name is Bradlee. I made a mistake and I activated the membershing in a incorrect day so I was charged (correctly) but I went to the store trying to get a refund / solution for my own mistake. The problem wasn't to get, at the end, the refund, the problem was this girl who was very very impolite and rude. She interrupted me all the time, she started to increase her voice, her tone was very bad, she opened her eyes and she never let me finish to speak, explain and propuse what I wanted to propose. I am hispanic and I felt that she didn't have patience because of my english. Lamentably, I canceled my membership although I was very happy with them but as I said to her I was also a client (for 2 years using this 2 times per year) and I deserved respect. Bought a three pack of spray tans on April 26 and was told they would be good for 3 months. I go today (June 15) to use one of the tans and was told my package expired. This was not the first time this has Happened to me at palm beach tan and the last time they convinced me to buy another 3 pack and that they would add my "expired" tans back on as a way to make up for it... they continue to con you into buying packages by telling you your old package expired when it didn't... staff was not friendly or helpful don't waste your time here read more

At the same time I've purchased the most expensive package to watch her give the bed 1 to another customer who has paid for a cheaper package deal. Prior to my experience at Palm Beach Tan, I had never used a tanning bed and had very little exposure to tanning salons (I had gotten a spray tan once for prom years ago). I called Palm Beach Tan on King Street in advance to ask questions about the process and ease my mind because I was a bit nervous. The girl I spoke to on the phone was very professional and took the time to answer any questions I had- she definitely helped put my mind at ease (she was there on a Saturday morning)! Well, a couple of days later, I go to the location on King Street after work and there were two relatively young girls behind the desk. The young female helping me was very pushy with the packages and lotions (which I get- she is probably making commission and this is a chain that pushes packages) and was giving me the complete opposite information that the employee previously provided to me over the phone. This employee was clearly less interested in helping me obtain the services I wanted/the services best for me and my skin type, and more interested in the sale. She was pushy to the point I almost wanted to walk out and go somewhere else; it was uncomfortable. But, I stood my ground, paid, and got the services I wanted. Then, when I finally finished tanning and was on my way out the door, I said goodbye and the two girls just looked at me. They were both sitting on the couch with some guy playing around/removing their masks. It was very unprofessional and just made me want to get out of there faster. I typically don't write reviews, but weeks later and I'm still disappointed in my experience at this tanning salon. Tanning is bad for you kids, mmkay? But if you're gonna do it, do it right. PBT is one of the few tanning salons in the DMV where a brown girl will not get mean-mugged. You know what that means: serious tanners frequent here. Benefits of going to PBT is that they're basically the best of the best when it comes to affordable (as affordable as a luxury like tanning can be) tanning salons. They offer a free week of tanning to all new customers. It's easy to get hooked. Be careful when you get a membership. It's worth it if you go twice a week. But if you want to cancel it, you'll have to pay the start-up fees all over again when you want to return after your tan fades. You can freeze the account for 7 bucks a month, which goes towards store credit that you can use to buy lotions. You can't apply that to your membership fee though. Which sucks. They offer both student and government employee discounts. I flashed an old college ID when I got my membership and they honored it. I was going for $25 a month for the past year. I only recently canceled my membership because my new gym offers tanning for $15 a month (shout out to XSport!) I like this location a little more than the Rockville Pike one, only because it's less crowded. The staff here is a bit more efficient too. But generally you can't go wrong at any PBT location. read more

I honestly have no idea how this place could get anything above one star. There is absolutely no excuse to go to a place as overpriced and rude as Palm Beach Tan when places like XSport Fitness and Gold Zone are so much more reasonable. It's impossible to come in for a single tanning session. It's like going into a used car dealership, and you will always leave paying nearly $100. There is no reason to spend so much money on a tan when XSport gives you the same variety of beds with specials like $5 Tuesdays and one week free for new customers. To add insult to injury, the customer service is appalling. I remember my first time here I asked how the bed worked, and after he left I heard the staff member mumble "it's not that f*cking hard." If you ask any questions about deals, memberships, etc they look at you like you're a moron, and they are extremely rude if you aren't looking to spend a fortune. I encourage everyone to do their research and avoid this place at all costs. Their pricing and customer service is unacceptable and shouldn't be reinforced by giving them business. read more

I came into PBT for the first time today and as soon as I walked in the door I was greeted so warmly by Brock at the front desk. He explained to me what every membership option did and included and showed me the ropes for my first time in a tanning bed. The products he helped me pick out for my skin type work so great and I most definitely will be a frequent customer! I had my membership, the perfect products, and he told me what to do within 15-20 minutes! It only took a little longer because of the amount of questions I had! Haha! One thing I hate is when high school girls who work at tanning salons make up things to sell sessions. I came in tonight to purchase one session. Just to get a little bit of vitamin D. The girl working told me that I would get absolutely no tan with only one session. I told her I understood that one session would not build a deep tan, but saying one session will make no difference is wrong. Or if that's the case, then it's time to change the bulbs. After I read all of the reviews on this place I was super hesitant but I'm so glad I tried it anyways! Seems to me they nixed the incompetent staff everyone has been saying is the worst! Woohoo! I stopped In here because there's not really THAT many places to tan in the area with parking and close to where I live. The location is in a strip mall so the parking is shared with many business but it's pretty huge! When you walk in there's couches and tv, perfect to wait a few minutes - when you NEED to wait for your favorite bed. They even have these neat finger print scanners to sign you in. The first employees to help me was Gabby. She was awesome! This girl knew her sh*t, very helpful, fun and upbeat. I tried a level 2 bed and I enjoyed it so I bought a membership. It's $20 down and $49/ month for level 2 beds. They are pretty cool, $50 a month is pretty much my personal limit, I just tan not to be a ghost lol but they have a few more levels and the beds look out of this world! They also leave a pair on goggles and fresh towel in the rooms. Give this place a chance! read more

This Palm Beach Tan is always clean and busy. They have the most convenient hours and are right next door to Starbucks :) I always want to tan at 9 PM for some God awful reason but to my surprise PBT is open until 11 PM! I only tan once every few months but when I do go it's a $80 trip. $50 Versa Spa spray tan + 10 minutes in the Level 4 bed. For anyone out there like me that will only tan 4x a year I highly recommend the account option they don't regularly advertise. It makes no sense for us to shell out $90 or more a month for Level 4 beds every month when I will only use them a few times. PBT withdrawals $10 from my account every month- when I visit I pay using the balance I have on file and usually I pay a difference of $20 or so dollars. If you're one of those 4x a year tanners try it out! After 5 months of not tanning I inevitably think of canceling my account but then all of a sudden I have a wedding to go to and want a tan! Then I remember why I have this setup :) it's convenient. Onto the beds- my Level 4 beds at this location have been iffy to say the least. Their room #1 has a bed that gives you great results (for me anyway) but on more than one occasion the plug and play music doesn't work or the program isn't working. This particular machine is supposed to have an aroma, mist, and pulsing feature. None of those were working tonight and I wasn't warned before I went into the bed. I think that's shady and no way to do business. The other level 4 bed was available- I would have used that! Tonight I would hear (and feel from vibrations ) the loud fan turn on as if the machine was trying to pump out aroma and most on queue but it wasn't working. The versa spa always looks best 2-3 days later following spray tan protocol (exfoliating/shaving/prepping/lack of scrubbing) and is a deep brown on me. However I have gone overboard and you can easily look orange if you choose to do this spray tan more than 1 a month. PBT is clean and has big bathrooms in the back. Outside of the bathrooms there are vanity mirror stations (nothing fancy) with hair ties, and some complimentary amenities that you may need after tanning. The space is large and inviting. I've had no issues with staff (other than not informing me my bed is malfunctioning) and they seem very well informed about how to operate each room's tanning machine. read more

Palm Beach Tan is a bit pricey, but they offer great tanning beds, lotions, and sunless tanning options. At the King St. location, the customer service is phenomenal and the store is always clean. If you want to use everything - all beds, plus the Mystic and the Versa - memberships run about $90 a month. But, you always get discounts on lotions, candles, and other merchandise, and sometimes, freebies (a dollar amount to spend on whatever you want). *Extra information: The wait times are never too long, especially in the early afternoon or later at night. The store is open early in the morning, and stays open until 11 p.m. (which is great for flexible work schedules). The staff members all have natural looking tans - unlike some places, where you walk in and everyone looks orange. PBT does enforce the 24-hour rule. So, if you tan at 8 p.m. Tuesday night, you can't tan at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. read more

Preface: I used this facility for about two months before my wedding, so you can call me a seasonal tanner. This is the only place I've ever gone tanning in the DC area. Review:The place was clean, and the gold and up beds are nicer and better quality than the lowest package. I think it's about $7 per time you go, or you can pay the monthly fee which is more value. In order to mildly prevent tan-aholics from an early death (or for themselves getting cheated out of money), they have a fingerprint ID system so that only you can use your account, and you can only go once a day. The employees are nice (I guess sunshine does that to you), but a few are stereotypical. The problem I had was that almost every time I came in, they pushed products on me. I bought my lotion from Amazon, so I think it shows up in your account when you check in if you purchased theirs or not. I was so annoyed that instead of carrying it in my purse I would hold it in my hand and be obvious so they wouldn't badger me. But I guess they're just doing their jobs. read more

Since I have totally boycotted the Lakeridge locations due to terrible management, I have been driving all the way back to Alexandria to tan. Though it is very inconvenient, the staff there is awesome and makes it worth the extra drive! Chris, the manager, is always happy and upbeat. Although the staff is usually friendly, and it seems clean, I can't help but feel totally robbed. My account was "frozen" so I was already paying 15 dollars a month for not even tanning. During that time I got a new debit card and was apparently getting fined each time it declined. No one contacted me to let me know that they weren't getting my free 15 dollars a month. I went in to tan and they said that my frozen account had now expired and I owed about 85 dollars just to be allowed to tan that day. They said they would waive the fees if I signed up again for a monthly membership that was 25 dollars more than I had been paying the year before so....... seems like some unfair bs to me. read more
