Not my favorite location in the chain. I hopped into a bed yesterday that was really weird. I had no sound from the radio and the bed was hot! I got burned on part of my back and butt, but nowhere else.... not even evenly burned. Just weird. I didn't even go the full time, so I can't figure out what went wrong. I have already been about three or four times this season to the King Street one and to the Fairfax one and have had zero problems. I have tanned on & off here for a few years, using both the traditional beds and the spray tanning. The facility is nice and appears clean. My frustrations come from the constant push to sell me overpriced lotions. It's fine to try to sell me once, but to make me repeatedly say "no" each visit is annoying. I'd rather go to another establishment to avoid this. The final annoyance is that I have to appear in person to get them to cancel my membership. I asked to be able to fax in my request and signature because I was sent out of the area for work, and they won't let me. And, they continue to charge me each month until I can return. I love this chain, I've been to quite a few of palm beach tans locations and I'm consistently impressed. The kingstowne store is by far my favorite, the staff is so friendly and accommodating, especially Judi who is almost always working during my visits. Been meaning to update a 2014 review of this Palm Beach Tan location, as the place did previously kind of suck at customer service. PBT Kingstowne so much deserves 5 stars these days. Each staff person is very friendly, and they can knowledgably explain the different tanning levels and beds. Employees ask if you want products and such, as you know they have to do (lol), but it's not pushy. I very much appreciate the vast improvement they seem to have made in the last 2-3 years. I've been a premier member at Palm Beach Tan for 5 years now. Kingstowne is my "home" location but I tan at various locations all over the DMV area depending on when I find time to tan. Kingstowne is friendly and accommodating and always willing to try and save you a dollar. I've found the team members at the Kingstown location know what I want and what I like to upgrade, and will always let me know of those specials when they are available. Especially Diamond upgrades! They do ask me if I need lotion, but I've never felt put upon to buy any. And let's face it, selling lotion is how any tanning salon makes a lot of its money. I don't understand these reviews that harp on the employees trying to sell lotion. It's their job! Get over it. I love Palm Beach and the Kingstown location. I don't think there's a better franchise in the DMV area. read more

I had went to this location to try out a spray tan before my wedding. I walked in and stood there for easily 10 minutes before anyone came to the desk. Finally a "frequent member" came in and yelled for someone to come out. Having this been my first time, you would not expect to have to yell for service! Once she finally came out I did receive an apology, but a discount would have been more appreciated considering I was about to leave and spend my money elsewhere. Despite the terrible first impression, the facility was clean and they thoroughly explained the process to me and were very friendly. I had purchased the 3x package since it was cheaper and was very happy with each tan. It was rather pricy considering it only lasts about 5 days tops, but overall I would use their spray tan again. read more

I'm not really sure what all the fuss is about and the bad reviews. My wife and I went in to this Palm Beach tan location on a Tuesday afternoon and we were greeted and helped immediately by Heather. She was very friendly, knowledgeable, polite, and helpful. We were new customers and she walked us through all the tanning options and set us up with a two person package. The place is pretty big and very clean. I highly recommend this location. read more

I don't know what it is about PBT that seems to attract moody and easily upset workers. But this location has it too. I'm usually quick to leave a positive review of any place that's putting in effort. But nobody wants to deal with a grumpy mess when we're trying to relax and catch some artificial sun. I went to this location today. Immediately when I walk in there's nobody around and I stood waiting for a good while. The woman who works there eventually comes bumbling out and asks for my name and pin while slurping on a shake. I'm a diamond level member so I like to switch around to different beds for different results. She tells me I'm all set in room nine. Didn't ask what I was interested in doing, how long I wanted to tan, what bed I wanted, nothing. Fine enough, I can request things on my own - they don't have to always ask I guess. So I gave her a confused look and said, "Um, wait, what bed is that?" And this woman mimicked me and goes, "UMMM Its the bed for your membership." Huh? All the beds are in my membership. Even spray tanning. She just assumed what I wanted for me and got an attitude when I asked about it. So I say, "Well can't I choose what kind of bed I want?" or something. And she says, "You can if you want to wait, nothing else is ready." So I say okay and go to my room. Every room I passed was empty and prepped. She was just so upset that I asked her about other beds that she lied to me to try to stick it to me for asking, lol. What. Anyway I tanned and it was fine. PBT is great but some people who work there are just totally unfriendly. The Vienna location rocks, and the people working there are relaxed and fun. I need to leave a glowing review for them. I'll keep going to Springfield because you can give me all the attitude you want, I'm still going to get my tan. But it's too bad people act inappropriate like that. Awesome customer service. I came in after having a horrible experience at Hollywood tans twice in two weeks. Heather was very patient with me and explained everything to me as this was my first time getting a spray tan. The Versa Pro is very easy to use and spray tans have come a long way since 11 years ago. I got the unlimited spray tan package so now I can be nice golden brown year round! read more

Very clean beds and salon. Spray tans are WAY overpriced. They will try to sell you on lotion EVERY SINGLE time you go in. And if you don't have a top-pf-the-line lotion, they give you a hard time about it. If they try to sell me lotion one more time then I will probably cancel my membership! read more

I have been a member of palm beach tan for about 8 years now. When I was in highschool I always went to the PBT in Bradlee Shopping Center because my high school was around the corner. However, for the years following I have gone to the PBT in Kingstowne because I live around the corner. In the past year I moved to another state, where I continued my membership, but upon visits home I still go to the Kingstowne location. Needless to say, I have been a dedicated member for years and have been a member at multiple locations! However, the PBT in Kingstowne is the MOST unfriendly, unprofessional group of ladies I have ever experienced. They are extremely rude, unhelpful and disrespectful. They are the type of employees that you know are there to collect their paychecks and leave, and have no regard for how they handle customers or their approach on customer service. Now that I will be home for summer, I have frozen my account at PBT, and become a member at another tanning salon, because I refuse to support a business that treats their clients so awfully and unprofessionally. PBT has great beds, but their prices are outrageous and are only worth the money if you are treated appropriately while visiting their saloons. With that being said, do your research and become a member elsewhere if the Kingstowne location is your only option. You will end up leaving infuriated after every visit, if not! read more

Ive been coming to this location for around two years, give or take, and the service has almost always been good, and only rarely subpar. At the end of march I stopped in to let them know I was likely not going to be around for a majority or at least half the month and I wanted to freeze the account so as not to waste money. In the midst of traveling, I was initially concerned when my checking account was minus a 100 dollars from what I knew should be in there. When I realized it had still been charged I figured, no biggie, I'll deal with it when I got back. I went in today and told the attendant, Evelyn, what had transpired and she advised that I would have needed to come in by the 25th of March to stop that payment and I had not. However, because nobody had informed me, which was slightly irksome, she went above and beyond by reducing the cost of my membership for a period. As a long term customer I appreciate that and want to acknowledge her good service. It's experiences like that which make customers return even when other options become more convenient. read more

They've always been super nice, not always the most knowledgeable about the products they sell, but super sweet and clean. They are however SUPER BUSY almost all the time. Its 11pm now and there's a woman who's been waiting an hour for a spray tan. That's craziness, maybe expand if it's going to be this busy. But I don't know who wants to wait an hour to begin with so that's on her, you can always leave. Either way it's an okay salon I don't know if this location is worth the money though. read more

Wanted to try the offer for the coupon and she would not allow me, trying to convince me to spend a large amount of money on a high end bed for my first time tanning. The staff here is very rude and unaccommodating. The few times I have been to this branch, I found that the bed was dirty and had to get dressed and asked for another bed (they weren't even busy, the place was empty). I found out that they were charging my bank account close to $60 a month and called to try and cancel or at least find out why they were charging me so much. I was told to call back for the manager because the employee couldn't tell me why I was being charged so much money. Once I finally got the manager on the phone, I was told that even though I didn't use any tanning for the previous month and it was just the beginning of the month, that the $60 pending charge would still go through and could not be cancelled until the end of the month. The manager had an attitude with me over the phone about the whole process. I guess that is the pitfalls of dealing with kids. Even though I am nowhere near the store, they will not cancel or suspend my account unless I come in the store in person. AND the manager even remembered me, so the reason for me to come in- an excuse of "verifying who you are" is just a bunch of B.S. I would NOT recommend this branch at all, it isn't worth it. read more

I highly recommend this location for tanning! I found every employee to be professional, courteous & knowledgeable of the beds! I signed up with Brock, who was superb! extremely patient in explaining the packages & beds. Every employee was extremely courteous to every person that came in to tan while I was signing up. I really wish Palm Beach Tan employees were required to take their smoke breaks somewhere besides right outside the facility. I have had great service here and the associates are always friendly, but as you drive in you can see the associates outside the back all sitting around smoking. This only really bothered my at this location once because I got there and no one was at the front desk and I waited 10 minutes (with a line starting to form behind me) for anyone to come to the front desk, and I knew they were out in the back smoking because I saw them there before I went in. This only happened once but it was at the end of the work day (one of the busiest times) and it was not only me left waiting but many other customers as well. Other than that one time I have had nothing but good experiences at this location, it's not the greatest it's not the worst. Definitely a million times better than their King Street location in Bradley shopping center but the best Palm Beach Tan I've been to in the area is definitely the Falls Church location off of Leesburg Pike, they're the best! read more

This location use to be a wonderful place to tan with great customer service not anymore! Within the last year the service has gone downhill. The young girls working there are rude, they will leave you sitting waiting at the desk for as long as they feel while they are talking in the back room. They constantly close early and rush you out, cutting your timeon the bed!!! This Memorial Day the hours on the door said open until 6, well at 5:50 doors were locked and no one was up front! This enrages me as I was in Customer service industry for many years while in Med School and this place obviously has NO structure of management what so ever! This location is very close and convient to me but I will now take my business to the Fairfax location which is close to my work and I always get A+ service there with a smile! Don't waste your time going here, you'd probably be better off going to Tan Fit in Manchester Lakes Shopping Center or driving to Bradly Shopping Center for another Palm Beach. read more

Unfortunately, I won't be back. As a business owner myself (salon) I look for 2 things anywhere I go. Customer service, and sanitation. The place is pretty consistently clean, and until today, the customer service has been nothing negative, but nothing to write home about. (A ton of staff turn over and inconsistancy) I had bought a couple of spray tans when they were on special to save for special events or when I needed them because when they sold them to me I was told they wouldn't expire. I came in today to use one because my boyfriend said he had a surprise date planned this weekend which involved a flight to Atlanic City for the night. He said to pack 2 outfits and my bathing suit! Oh my, I need some color! And I'm going to start with the fact that there was no manager on duty, and when the rep called the manager to ask her what to do, the manager said to give me one today but I would loose the second one I paid for ( well unless I was prepared to buy at least 3 more spray tans at regular price...why would I do that standing here in this situation) common sense is not so common. When I explained very calmly to the rep that I didn't think that was fair, so I would just tan today and cancel my membership, I wasn't just claiming I bought them, on my file they saw I bought them and didn't use them. (and I didn't have the cheapest membership.) She told me she didn't like how "extra" I was being and it made her feel uncomfortable because she can't do anything about it. (Insert attitude that was I was the one accused of having) customer service certainly wasn't her thing. She told me I was welcome to call her boss' boss. And told me I could go over her head. I'm quite disappointed that this young lady was trying to make me seem irrational when all I was doing was expressing my view point and explaining that I don't even come that often but pay them every month. And considering I paid 10.00 for the spray tan their position was from a customer stand point ....didn't only, not make dollars, it didn't make sense. You lose a paying member who doesn't even come, over a $10 spay tan.... As a 5 star yelp business owner... I'd say that was a fail. So I canceled my membership, and now, when my clients ask me where I tan because they respect my professional opinion, I won't say PBT. The manager didn't offer to speak to me or call me. And if my assistant ever did anything but apologize to my clients.... She would find herself with out a job....especially if she is telling them to go over my head to my boss.
