Terrific dog park! Lots of grass for the pups to run wild and sun shelters, picnic tables and misters for dog owners.

This was a perfect respite for our Lilly pup. While we played tourist, she was stuck travelling in the car and getting the obligatory relief walks. She couldn't even run and play outside at our resort. So, she definitely needed her own getaway spot, and this couldn't have been better. I only wish there were some other dogs there for her to play with and sniff. Bad timing, not the park's fault. Owner and dog friendly, there are two sections, one for big dogs, one for small. There was plenty of cooling green grass, mature trees offering comfortable shade from the unrelenting desert sun, sturdy concrete benches, a permanent canopy with misters going, a clean water dish, a handful of slightly used tennis balls, a pooper scooper and bags, and of course, the obligatory fence so our canine friends can frolic leash-free. GPS for Google Maps is way off. You will find this terrific dog park next to the large parking lot for the YMCA, in the PS Civic Center. read more

This review is mostly for the people who are in the park. Although the park itself is clean and well kept. I just moved here from a very busy city where nobody really talks to each other so it wasn't used to the amount of welcoming people that I met here. The minute I brought my dog in, everybody was so friendly, introducing themselves,introducing their dogs etc. I felt very comfortable immediately. All the dogs on both sides seem to be well behaved and having a good time with each other. My dog had a great time so I'll definitely be coming back. Glad I found this place. read more

Palm Desert Dog Park - I found my new dog park! - Dog Parks Near Me

The Palm Springs Dog Park is located near the airport and features two large sections: one for small and the other for large, medium and small dogs, at their owners' choice. Many smaller dogs like mine seem to prefer running and playing with larger dogs. See-through fences surround each section, and double gates at each entrance and exit prevent dogs from accidental escapes. A convenient addition provides access between the two sections via a separate double gate. Grass covers a majority of both sections, which also have gravel areas near the perimeter fencing. A paved pathway circles inside the larger section, where owners can walk or even jog (which I haven't yet witnessed) for a little exercise while their pets run about. Friendly and considerate dog owners bring their well-behaved pets to the park. Many come on a regular schedule, so both the owners and their pets get to know each other. I have never seen a dog fight at the park, although I've been told about the rare occurrence when an offending dog and its owner were banned. My dog is a one-year old puppy who has never experienced a mean dog or person and who loves playing with other friendly dogs. Owners keep the park clean, picking up after their own and even others' dogs. Several stands offer free doggie bags, and receptacles are convenient and covered, which minimizes odor and fly issues. The City manages the park and cleans it weekly. Municipal workers sometimes (especially during the winter) install temporary fencing around grassy areas when necessary for maintenance. In the past year, the entire park was closed for several weeks for reseeding. The only downside (and the reason for my one-star deduction) occurs in mid- to late summer, when swarms of bothersome (but not biting) flies descend on the park from dawn to dusk. During those months, I prefer the Rancho Mirage Dog Park, which is a farther drive for me but sits on a hill, where even a little breeze minimizes the fly problem. Those with dogs should visit the Palm Springs Dog Park and compare it with the Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage and University Dog Parks. read more

Wow! I thought this park was amazing! I live in Ventura County and could only wish our dog parks were a little like this. Pros: Nice friendly dog owners, water bowl provided for dogs, pooper scooper for the public to use to pick up after the pups, mist sprinklers on a shaded tent to sit under, nice shady trees, big area for little dogs. Where I live they give little dogs only a tiny area...this was a good size area for the tiny pups. My boyfriend was there for business and we were going to leave at 4PM, but we had to check out of our hotel at noon. So--being worried I would be stuck in the hot car waiting for him with my two dogs travelling us I decided to search for a dog park in hopes for shade and a place for them to run and this place was perfect. Too bad I do not live closer I LOVE THIS PARK AND SO DID MY DOGS! I can tell it is very well maintained. Awesome 5 stars read more

the best dog park in the valley I think. the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is missing a little bit of grass in the middle and the dogs get very dirty, but most of the dog parks don't even have that much grass in there. I highly recommend it the people are great and there are no aggressive dogs. read more

This is a very beautiful park my only concerns are mainly with the owners who are irresponsible with their big dogs .Theirs a couple their with a GSD puppy that almost nipped my dogs tail , they couldn't be bothered and didn't apologize to us at all . I know the Palm Desert dog park is not exactly a business, but never-the-less, not all dog parks are created equal! The Palm Desert dog park has two large fenced in areas for large and small dogs. Each area is equipped with shaded seating for dog owners, misters, water and water hose, as well as small plastic child's pools for the doggies to play. Always tennis balls rolling around and lots of room to run and play fetch. There are a few doggie parks in the area and this one is one of the more comfortable ones. Looks like a nice park. However they close BOTH SIDES for 2 hours to clean. It would be a LOT more customer service oriented to close one side at a time - but apparently that's not their concern. While I stood there trying to figure out what was going on and why there was a lock on the gate (the "closing hours" are written on a plaque that is not easy to read or understand) several people came up with their dogs as well. I live in La Quinta - and they maintain their dog parks as well. However they don't close the park to do so. If they are mowing - they do so quickly so as to be considerate of the people and dogs waiting. Palm Desert - you could definitely take a cue from La Quinta. Very disappointing. read more

It was closed for reseeding until Nov 25, 2013. Also the map is wrong it's at the Civic Center.

I live here in palm desert and have enjoyed this dogpark for over a decade. It has always been well cared for and nice. The trees are getting more mature so the shade is so great during hot days. It's a real privilege to have this park!!! Kim H. read more
