Clean office, nice friendly staff. My hygienist was nice but before any cleaning started there was a list of a la cart items to be discussed. They are a cash office (but will bill your insurance and have any refund sent to you the patient). I think their prices are fair and they have a lot of technology but a 360 degree x ray was $275 and a special laser treatment (I've never heard of before) $50 few other items and then the big one for Perio Protect $675 for trays to wear in shower? Made me a bit nervous and mistrusting, especially when I heard the patient in the next bay being given the press by the actual Dentist. All that said it was a thorough cleaning, the hygienist was excellent in explaining what she was doing and meeting Dr Baumann I found him pleasant. read more

I arrived on time for my 1:00 appointment from Mountain Center a 30-minute drive down the 74. With no cell service. When I walked in I was told it would be a few minutes. After sitting there for 20 minutes I got up to ask how much longer and was told it would be at least another 20 minutes. The office had sent me a text 15 minutes before my appointment telling me the patient before me was late and suddenly that was my problem. I was on time and could not be seen. This is highly inconsiderate as I believe the patient who showed up late should have been asked to wait not me I was on time. Dr Nick I would strongly advise you to train your staff to have more consideration. This was a waste of my time and very unprofessional. I walked out without any consideration for my time or effort to be on time. Dr Nick I like you but really this was inexcusable! Please address this with your staff. read more

I HATE going to the dentist. I have always felt like they try to sell you on treatments you don't need, and are just trying to raise your bill. I have tried 4 different dentists in 3 years until finding Dr. Baumann. He is AMAZING!! Not only is he thorough, but his pricing is fair, he has never told me I have 10 cavities I don't have, and his equipment is the most up to date technology that makes my appointment SO much more tolerable. I would recommend trying some other dentist first. ANY other dentist first. No respect for your time. Don't really tell you what's going on you can just figure it out or not. They knew I was coming from Yucca Valley and yet treated me like I lived around the corner, bringing me in more times because of their errors. Something that I was told would take 5 weeks was at 8 weeks with no end in sight. Couldn't even give me an appt for the permanent bridge to be installed because they couldn't guarantee when it would be ready. Funny because the local dentist (in Yucca Valley) I went to , to finish the botched job was able to clean up the mess that was in my mouth and have the bridge there and ready exactly when they said it would be. It isn't until You go to a dentist that DOES respect your time. A dentist That DOESN'T bring you back countless times because of their errors that you realize you just wasted 8 weeks traveling over 400 miles accommodating them. They offer no excuses and no apologies. Their attitude is DEAL WITH IT. I could go into great detail about the wasted 8 weeks and the procedures that were actually damaging. Suffice it to Say I would not offer myself up for that kind of abuse again. And it was not cheap. There Are hundreds of dentists in Palm Desert. I would recommend trying ANY of them first. I had teeth whitening only a month ago, and my teeth were worse afterwards! They were left with a rough surface which made them browner as the days went on. I was told that they would get whiter using the bleaching trays I purchased, and that my teeth were old and could not be whitened to much. I went to another dentist to repair damage to my teeth. First visit took place after I completed a few pages of medical information that they requested online. Dr. Baumann must not have reviewed this information because he began explaining the advantages of Cone Beam CT Scans before any x-rays were taken or viewed, all within the first few minutes. I have a serious medical condition that I noted in the medical information and prefer minimum x-rays due to this. The Cone Beam CT Scans put out more radiation than a digital x-ray. I was looking for a dentist, my mistake, and not someone who specializes in Cosmetic Dentistry. I think he was trying to sell me on advanced imaging more than taking care of my dental needs. He wasn't the right dentist for me and we decided not to complete the exam. read more

I would highly recommend Dr Nick Baumann. I live in the desert six months out of the year and in the last six months I have had a few different dental issues that have come up so I looked online and after reading reviews decided to try Palm Desert Smiles. Dr. Bauman replaced one of my porcelain veneers that had broken off one of my two front teeth. He went above and beyond to make sure that the new veneer matched my other 25 year old veneer. He was willing to order several different colors until we got the best possible match. I really appreciated his patience and willingness to work to get it right. I also had questions about an osteoporosis drug that I've been given which can cause some side effects involving your jaw and teeth. I was impressed that he had a lot of experience working with patients who had had that drug and he was knowledgeable about the issue, which was reassuring. If anyone thinks they should go to Dr Baumann, thank twice.  My husband and I went in for routine teeth cleaning and left with a $1,000 bill. No one ever told us what the charges were going to be, some rather excessive. Neither my 76 year old husband nor my 65 year old self have had any dental issues, which we explained. Our teeth are in good shape which every dental hygienist has told me. Let me break the charges down. My Husband: - $160 Teeth Cleaning - $35 Comprehensive periodontal evaluation where they read numbers of each tooth (I have never had a dentist charge this, it was always included in the cleaning) - $100 Comprehensive oral evaluation by the dentist (Again, in all my years this too was included in the cleaning) - $50 Digital photos, not X-rays Myself: - $160 Teeth Cleaning - $50 Laser to disinfect all areas around the teeth (I have never had another dentist offer this) - $275 Cone Beam Scan - $35 Comprehensive oral evaluation - $75 Comprehensive oral evaluation by dentist So if you still feel you want to go to this dental practice, make sure you have them reveal all the charges in advance so you don't end up surprised like us. In the past dentists have always outlined charges in advance if insurance wouldn't be covering it. A little more integrity on their part could go a long way. read more

You can never go wrong having the dentists and staff take care of you. I recently had extensive work done and I was completely pleased. That was several months ago and then today, I took a fall in the parking lot of my bank and badly chipped 4 of my upper front teeth. About a year ago I started to go through the process of having all of my remaining bottom teeth removed, due to gum disease. I had already had my upper teeth removed and fitted with a denture. When I first consulted with Dr. Nick Baumann and the entire staff at Palm Desert smiles, I was pleasantly surprised by their ability to make me feel comfortable, and in explaining the entire process to me. Over the years I have developed a great fear of dentists, and Dr. Nick helped alleviate that fear. When the process was finally completed after a period of about six months from start to finish, I was fitted with a bottom plate that feels natural in my mouth! It took just a couple of adjustments after the plate was initially fitted, and I now feel confident out in public once again!
