They actually let me inside the office at check in (all other motels serve you from the other side of the window) but What caught my attention was the height adjustable electric desk that goes up and down at the touch of a button! Room Amenities at this motel include: flat screen TV! Ample complimentary toiletries! Very nice warm shower! Safe deposit box! Hair dryer! Ironing amenities! There is a Jack in the Box Restaurant right across from the motel! They also gave me a pamphlet of activities to do in the surrounding area! They have an outdoor patio but I don't know how to access it! Only issues here are: they charge $100 deposit at check in! They also use traditional key as opposed to digital key! I booked a reservation on the Rest Haven Motel in Santa Monica website in January for a stay at the end of our Route 66 trip for the evening of June 26th. When we arrived we were told that they had no reservation for us. I showed the person at the front desk our confirmation number from the Rest Haven website and was told that there must have been a glitch in the Rest Haven reservation system that canceled our reservation and that they were totally booked for the evening and had no room for us. Meanwhile, I can see the paper that the person at the front desk had with the names of people checking in for the night and my name was listed there. He insisted however that we did not have a reservation and that there were no rooms available. We had to scramble to find another hotel in town which ended up costing us $181 more than our original reservation at the Rest Haven Motel. DO NOT BOOK A ROOM AT THE REST HAVEN MOTEL IF YOU EXPECT YOUR RESERVATION TO BE HONORED ONCE YOU ARRIVE AT THE MOTEL. read more

Rest Haven Motel is a rare find in Santa Monica, because of Superior service, convenient location and low prices! It's safe for a single woman. My bed and pillow were super comfortable and I had a great night sleep! I enjoyed having my window open and letting in fresh air during the early evening and the flowering bush out my window created a prettier view. Yes the bathroom is a bit older in style, however it has great charm and water pressure is great!! My room was cozy. I highly recommend staying at this Motel, because it's like staying at a place in Europe. Kim (originally from Europe) and her husband run the show and they are caring, efficient, super friendly and take excellent care of each person's needs. I'm convinced that all the people writing four and five star reviews got some sort of discount or compensation to do so. This place is overpriced and less than mediocre. The rooms are literally the size of closets and are flimsily made so you can hear every single thing going on outside and in the neighboring rooms. Our room was infested with some sort of gnats that came out of the sink and shower drains in swarms. There are homeless people living in the alley next door and they will accost you next to your car at night. read more

I have to start by saying that everyone that works here is so nice. The rooms are cute and tidy. There is parking but it's limited so at night some cars have to park behind others and if you're blocked in then oh well. I ended up taking a Lyft around town because I didn't want to give up my spot. The bedsheets smelled really badly - even after they were changed. I'm sure a lot of people pass through but the musty/BO smell of the bed made it almost impossible for me to rest comfortably. Beyond this, there's a bar right across the street and they do have live music until 2am on weekends so if you're a light sleeper then this might not be the place for you. We stayed in the upstairs rooms around the side of the motel. It was clean, it was large enough to fit more than one person in a room. It was within walking distance to Venice Beach, which was VERY nice! It was a tad bit noisy (but that's to be expected in such an area), and I couldn't figure out how to turn the AC on, if there was any, so we slept with the windows open. I called the number several times and rang the bell several times, and no one came out. I had to scramble at the last minute to find another place to stay! Rest Haven was wonderful. My partner and I stayed here for three nights over the last weekend of August. We requested a room on the courtyard, per Trip Advisor reviewers suggestions, and it was great. It was very quite, and the courtyard is lovely. There's a table with an umbrella and benches where we ate dinner on our last night. There's no AC, but because the hotel is in Santa Monica, it's very cool. Even in late August. The bathroom was cleaned every day and our towels were refreshed. The room has a mini fridge, tv (which we didn't use), and dresser. The biggest downside was that the bed wasn't too comfortable, but we're young and don't have back issues or sleeping issues, so this didn't really bother us. The receptionist was very kind and I was able to borrow a hair dryer from the Motel for the duration of our stay. The motel also has its own parking lot, which is great. And wifi is free! But very slow and sometimes not available at all at night. The location is a little unfortunate. The walk to the beach took about 20 minutes (mainly because you can NOT jaywalk anywhere in LA, which drives me bonkers as someone who lives in NYC, where pedestrians rule the streets). The walk to the downtown area was about 25 minutes and you had to cross some pretty big roads. Really, I'm only taking a star off because I'm cheap. $105+tax a night still seems expensive to me. read more

It's a small, nice motel, quite central to Santa Monica. Most places in walking distance, good parking, food etc. Plus: The motel seems to undergo some renovation. Our room was modernised, convenient, clean. Flat screen TV, if you like to watch, good heating (cold days), great bathroom with large shower. All modern. Friendly staff. Minus: Soft mattresses that caused some backpain. But some people like it, so it's my personal experience. Slooow Wi-Fi. They owner should change the internet carrier, that provides a very low datarate. But no worries, there's a few open Wi-Fis around. Or go 2 blocks to the next Denny's and log in for free. Anyway, the plus points and the pricing would let me stay here again. And to all of you who blame the noise from the local pub next door (and not the Jack In The Box), make it as I did, have a beer there and leave late. read more

I started my stay here the weekend before new years 2013. I had stayed in santa monica over 10 years ago at the Bayside hotel but their price had gone up higher than I really wanted to pay. Even earlier had stayed at 2 places in Venice but found out that I liked to stay as close to santa monica pier/3rd street promenade as long as price was economical. Read a lot of reviews on tripadvisor.com and Rest Haven seemed like a good balance of price and location. So I booked a courtyard room because I'm a light sleeper and noise is a big concern of mine. The walls are thin in the rooms. Luckily I didn't have noisy neighbors during my stay but the walls are thin enough that you would likely hear normal conversation level speech from your neighbors. The room was clean, the wi-fi was sometimes spotty but free as was the parking. I hate paying for parking and LA seems to be hell bent on reaching in to your pocket for parking nearly everywhere you go. The shower drain was draining too slow but it was fixed by the next night when I brought it to the attention of the manager. The manager was friendly and service oriented. The area has its fair share of down on their luck types along lincoln blvd. I didn't feel threatened but just a heads up for those not familiar with the area. When I decided to stay a few more days, the manager arranged it without me having to change rooms. I'd stay here again. read more

Zero star for this place. I called to check pricing and availability. The first time I called, it rang twice and was sent to voicemail. The automated voice greeting read back a different number than the one I dialed so I redialed it and was sent directly to voicemail. I did not leave a voice message. Fantastic motel! Very quaint and clean! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the quiet and privacy in our room located in the courtyard behind a locked gate. The room was very clean with nice touches throughout that created a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff were both attentive and very accommodating. 2 stars mostly just for what we experienced last night (having not much to do with the actual hotel itself, sort of). Got back to the hotel around 10:30pm from a festival on the pier. As my husband and I walked up the stairs (we were in rm 11, in the 2 story part of the hotel) we could hear screaming and fighting from the couple in the room next to ours. Sitting on our bed listening to the domestics getting worse over the next hour, (sounding like it was in our room due to the paper thin walls) I called the police when there was no answer to the hotel number. I left a message on the voicemail to the number and got no return call so once the woman next door started screaming for help I called 911. She ended up being fine and I think the guy she was with left before the cops showed up. Didn't stop her from bawling for the next few hours which was so awesome to try to fall asleep to. This was the opposite of a rest haven for us. This hotel should have someone available 24/7 to deal with stuff like this and kick drunk idiots out if they're keeping people up all night. read more

This hotel is perfect for a certain type of customer: you want no-frills, very basic accommodations that are clean and close to the beach. Basic meaning: furniture that has drawers falling apart, back boards that come off the beds, only a couple power outlets, small towels, soft mattresses, no a/c etc. BUT... it's super clean, well maintained, with no off odors. (The photos here are accurate.) The manager (Janett) is terrific and helpful, and her pride in running the place is evident; really she makes the place. It almost had a "poor man's B&B" feel. There is nice landscaping. The Courtyard is quite nice, with a table and umbrella and shady areas. My three-year old loved it, and wanted to play down there every morning. The side streets are beautiful residential streets with huge overhanging trees, again nice for children to get away from the bustle and weirdos of Lincoln and Pico. Free parking. Free wi-fi (though very slow, with dead zones in parts of the room). I think the back room (in the two story unit) are nicer and quieter than those facing the Jack in the Box. Not the nicest part of Santa Monica-- and about 10m from the city itself. About 20 from the beach. Wish we could have rented a bike because you can get to Venice and Santa Monica quite easily if you're in shape, there are lots of bike boulevards around this part of town. I've also got to say: $125 + 14% tax for such basic accommodations is much more than I'm used to in other cities. Not sure why Santa Monica is so darned expensive. read more

There was also a blood stain on the sheets I had to stand outside of my room to get wifi. It has always been a pleasure to stay at this motel. I am always made to feel welcome. Jannet the manager is extremely friendly.The motel is a landmark so it is older but the rooms are remodeled nicely, with a homey feel to them. The rooms off of the courtyard in the back are the quietest. The trees and landscaping is mature and kept up nicely. You can hear birds chirping and everything. I feel safe here as you also need to use a key to get into the courtyard at night. The rooms in the front are closer to Lincoln Blvd which is a very busy street but the motel is on a side street and since the rooms all have newer windows, the noise is not really a big problem. The housekeeping does a nice job and what I like is that this is a non-smoking hotel so the rooms do not reek of smoky smells. I have seen an ashtray on the step outside of the rooms before so I am sure you can smoke outside if you need to smoke, which is basically how it is in most places anyway.You cannot beat the price for Santa Monica and the parking is free! This motel does not have all the ammenities that higher priced places might have. But the rooms do have a fridge and nice flat scrteen TV's. There are also plenty of places to grab a bite to eat within a block or two like Subway, Jack in the Box, Taco Bell, Tommy's Hamburgers, El Pollo Loco as well as non-chain places. They only provide shampoo so bring conditioner. I think you can request things like a blow dryer and iron if you need it. Make sure you make a reservation as the place does sell out, especially on the weekends. Every room is different. Some sleep up to 4 people with one double and two twin beds which we like when we have the kids with us as they HATE sharing a bed.. If you get there early Jannet will show you the rooms that are available so you can choose the one that you like! I have stayed here at least 10 times and will keep returning whenever I am anywhere in the LA area. It is close to the beach, pier and 3rd street Promenade (10-15 minute walk or take a bus) and also just a few blocks from the 10 freeway. The traffic in Santa Monica can get bad but you have that anywhere you stay. My tip is to make sure you do not have to walk far after dark, but that is just about anywhere in the LA area anyway. read more

Traveling down the Pacific Coast Highway landed us in Santa Monica for the night. We started looking for a hotel using the Yelp phone app, but every place we called was full. We called Rest Haven, were told they had vacancies and she offered to text me the address. When we drove up to the hotel it was not fancy, but the property was well maintained and clean. The room was small but had the amenities we needed: refrigerator, TV, wifi and free parking in front. The room and bathroom were very clean. The hotel is located behind a Jack in the Box, with the drive thru lane across the lot from our room, but there was minimal late night noise. The lot was brightly lit, which is good for security, but some light does leak in around the heavy drapes on the windows. The staff was pleasant and helpful, gave us a map and suggested we visit the pier. It is not a fancy motel, but it was clean, economical and comfortable for our one night stay. read more
