The staff are so kind and welcoming to all of us, she feels very taken care of. She loves the food and the activities. We took her on a month long trip and half way through she asked when she was going back home to The Elms? The town of San Carlos is also the perfect walking town for an ambulatory elder! Across the street is the library. Two blocks away is the Senior Center (if your loved one wants more activities.) A block and a half away is the pharmacy. Three blocks away is the bank, post office and grocery store. Two blocks away is a coffee shop, and Laurel street which has lots of activities (pictured here.) If you or your loved one is considering The Elms, please contact Amanda and get on the waiting list ASAP, we waited a year for my mom's name to come up and it's been life changing! To quote my mom "thank you for making my life so easy!" That's what The Elms does for the residents, makes their life easy, so they can enjoy this chapter of their life with ease and comfort!

I had to place my mom in a care home this year and she has been at the Elms for 6 months. I toured…read moreseveral assisted living facilities that also had memory care. These other facilities were newer and fancier (complete with smaller rooms and 10%/yr price increases to keep their publicly traded parent companies happy!), but they didn't come close the warm and welcoming environment we found at the Elms. The staff are wonderful: happy, relaxed, dedicated and you can tell they truly care about the residents. The Elms is a nonprofit and was started by San Carlos; you can see the focus is on the wellness of the residents, respect of the staff, and bringing as much comfort and joy to the community as possible. The residents are lovely and my mother has made very nice friends (they had a little holiday party in one of their rooms this week, and another family brought my mom a small Christmas tree for her room). The downtown San Carlos location allows residents who are able can walk to the wonderful offerings on Laurel Street. We walk to restaurants, the farmers market and seasonal street fairs; it feels like a breath of normalcy amongst all the changes that have been forced on her over the last few years. The Elms has a good variety of programing for the various abilities and interests of their residents. Today my mom and I caught an acoustic guitar holiday music show in the lounge. It was such a gift to enjoy that with her. The holiday parties are quite fun and everyone participates. The administration reaches out at regular intervals to make sure everyone is doing ok. The housekeeping and medical staff have been very responsive and easy to work with. I imagine managing the expectations and needs of this age group is a challenge but I think they do a great job with a tremendous amount of compassion and patience. I believe most of the staff has been with the Elms for some time and everyone seems to know whats going on and has a great deal of competence. Ultimately the biggest winner in the arrangement has been my mom. Her neurologist said her test results have improved over the last year which she attributed to her environment and having socialization, quality food and stimulation (and professional medication management). Moving a loved one out of their home is a very hard choice, but I am grateful for the Elms staff and their sensitivity, kindness and caring they show towards the residents and their families.

She was not happy about it but the staff assured me that it was not unusual and that they would help her acclimate. And they did. After about a month she not only was acting as though she'd been there 20 years but had befriended another lady who she had all her meals with. Bayview is clean and safe and while not inexpensive is about half what you would pay for 24/7 care at home by licensed caregivers. I owe a big debt of gratitude to the staff and administrators who made this an easier transition, not only for my mother, but for me as well so that I did not have to worry any longer about an independent nonagenarian still living at home by herself. Staff was caring and attentive and always available. The facility itself is very well kept up and during holidays always decorated. Highly recommend.

Quite frankly I thought I would lose her within the year. 5 years later she has gained weight( this is positive in her situation) and is doing great. We just celebrated her 97th birthday this month. Well with masks through the glass that is. Their safety measures during covid19 have been amazing. They locked down immediately and have not let up and their protocols. Healthcare for the elderly is not cheap , but I can honestly say the staff at Bayview Villa cares more about their residents than they do about your money.

"The clients and direct care staff are typically great, but the administration (incl. the executive…read moredirector and board president) are biased, corrupt and without scruples. Do not work at Kainos. I worked at Kainos and experienced lots of political BS-- favoritism, discrimination, and double standards. If you are a woman, an ILS or SLS instructor, a "protected class" minority, and if you share your managers religious beliefs, you will likely do OK at Kainos. But if you are male, do overnights, and do not share your managers religious beliefs, and are honest, you will be marginalized and oppressed. Kainos has dozens of "unwritten rules" that are NOT in the Employee Handbook-- my "mistake" was to speak the Truth and the Kainos system shi*tted me out! Do not work at Kainos. I have a 20 year full time job I cannot put on my resume thanks to Andy, who admitted to me one year later that it was a "retaliation termination"!! He should be fired for that bullsh*t. Admin staff initiate bait-and-switch meetings, so be careful if you're still working at Kainos: quit before they get petty revenge. I had NO reprimands ever, and during my last 16 years at Kainos, I had NO employee evaluations-- none! But... 20 years full time job, 4 minute termination meeting. No goodbyes to clients or co-workers. Sick. Zero accountability for admin staff. Do not work there. Just don't." - Not me. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First id like to address that whoever is impersonating me on Yelp to negatively influence the rating of an assisted living facility, that supports the developmentally disabled during a global pandemic must be a pretty unhappy person. Id like to go through your post quickly to disprove its authenticity. During my 10 years working at Kainos I never encountered any Biases, or "corruption". I was treated with respect and equality like all other employees. I have never encountered a "protected class" at Kainos, and especially not women! They often must work harder, and closer to the clients than the men do. The religious beliefs statement probably offended me the most. My Manager and I could not have been any further from each other regarding religious attitudes, yet we worked well together, she made herself available for questions, held monthly staff meetings to air any grievances, brainstorm, and often food was provided. As for the Employee handbook, It's pretty airtight, and most times I had a question for my manager the answer would be in the handbook. These unwritten rules you commented on, I think they may fall under common sense; however considering I don't know what you are referring too, ill leave it at that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On to my personal review. Kainos could not be a better program to work for. It is an assisted living located in Redwood city. The facility has ALWAYS put the needs of the clients first. They pay higher than any other assisted living facility I looked at, and the management I interacted with were all very welcoming, rational, and patient people. The previous impersonator mentioned Andy. I didn't see Andy every day, but I did interact with him every other month or so. I could not ask for a better Executive Director. He was always clear, respectful, and calm. I doubt the truthfulness of the statement," "retaliation termination" I saw first-hand the good that Kainos provided not only to its clients but to its community through fundraising, concerts in the park, fashion shows, trips to Disneyland, the list goes on. It really is a amazing nonprofit. I loved my time at kainos, and I'm fairly certain I will never be treated with as much respect, and honesty as when I was an employee. I hope all at kainos are safe and well during this scary time. Miss you all and keep up your fantastic work. I do not know who wrote the previous review pretending to be me but please try to move on and have the integrity to voice your grievances under your own name, not mine.

She will just say "other" and angry grab bag ,humilated you and close door in front of you and that is Kainos. Kainos I believe is unprofesional, ovepriced, unsafe which not welcome family to visit. I believe the residenst they are not have separate room but they will take two inteligual disability persons together and squize them in small bedroom to collect most of the money and it doesn't matter ,if you they have apnea , seizures or epilepsy let mix them together so people with none sleeping apnea and epilepsy suffer . No supervision from Reginal Center on regular basis and in covid time nursing stuff doesnt need to wear a mask why? They are immune and they do not care if the disability persons get it.
