The Palmer Ale House is one of those places that I'd love to return to time and time again, simply to try the many different menu items and beers they offer. My family shared a Hawaiian Pizza and a Palmer Special Pizza. The crust was authentically hand-tossed, and the toppings were fresh. The flavor? It was really good, but not amazing. It needed some garlic or a bit more flavor. The beer--amazing selection! We enjoyed the GlacierBrewery Raspberry Wheat and the Turnagain Mexican Lager. The hand-cut fries were disappointing. I often get the eyeball roll when I tell someone that we are taking friends to Palmer Alehouse along with "seriously? Why would you go there". Well, sweeties, we like beer and this place has the best tap menu in the valley. The food isn't fine dining. But it doesn't suck and if you like decent pub food then this place will work for you. I usually go to Palmer AIehouse for the pizza-and-salad lunch special, but this was a Sunday afternoon visit. I love the beer list here, especially that they have raspberry wheat! We ordered a steak dip and a classic hamburger with fries. The steak dip and hamburger were delicious! The hamburger bun seemed homemade and was beautiful! The bun for the dip wasn't as good, but okay. My only complaint is that the fries were not crispy. They are homemade but a bit greasy... I LOVE Palmer Alehouses' summer concerts and feel like they fill an important role in the Palmer community! You can bring your children to play in the field and dance! Arrived at 6pm on Thursday. Told it was a 20 min wait for a table but got two seats at the bar. Watching Lindsey work the bar was spellbinding! She moves at the speed of light, but focuses on everyone! We wanted the large Palmer pizza, but we're sorely tempted by the Black & Blue Fries - but we couldn't possibly eat a full order! She figured out a way to make a half portion, while making us two excellent mixed drinks. Pizza was fantastic- crispy on the bottom, but dough was not a giant cracker. B&B Fries were equally awesome - did everything but lick the plate (lie!) Very pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the drink prices are. We will be back! read more

The waitress (Taren)took it off the bill, but came back from kitchen with snide remark, "All our house burgers come pink, next time you should say cook well." Like it was our fault. Ok food and service quality have definitely diminished since tbe last time we were here- such a shame. Our server was lovely though but she was definitely taxed by the number of tables she had. She did her best to be attentive. The food was ... eh. I remember it being excellent, so that was a bummer. But the fries were out of this world. Some of the best I've had in Alaska. I would go back just for these with beer. Their tap collection was FANTASTIC. I hate IPA and frankly that have WAY TOO MANY IPAs and not enough stouts and Belgian beers, but I was able to find something quality that appealed that was excellent. I got a Smore Stout that floored me that paired with the fries was heaven. So I was happy. Love the ambiance here. Wish it had been warmer because the patio here is gorgeous as well. read more

I love visiting for outdoor live music including locals (like Mamma Mia Cover band and Ken Peltier) or bigger names like Cousin Curtis. The drink selection is vast including many NA options and the loaded Bloody Mary is a must-have starter. I've been coming here off and on, son worked there before leaving for military, between new and old owners, menu changes, and price increases! Came by to sit outside and enjoy a meal outside. Well 1 server so we sat in a 8 top table with just my daughter and I, I said we can move to a smaller table. She said no we only have one server. Okay. Don't want her running everywhere. Sat there for about 10 min before water or waitress, ordered everything at once to get ahead of the game. Pizza- chicken bacon ranch, and a burger with fries. Simple. Well an hour later we got our food. My daughter was two bites in, and she pulled out a hair, didn't tell me. Then she said ew and found another hair. I was still on my first piece of pizza and I couldn't get a bite without grease dripping down my arm and the entire pizza pan was pooled with grease. We sent it back, paid for our drinks. We used to go here every week, we loved it! The food and service was always great plus the ambiance was fun! After suffering through the new ownership in recent years we just barely go here. It's not just the menu changes, or the high price changes- inflation is real- it's the quality change. Service is always great though as most of the employees have stayed through the ownership changes and we do love the outdoor seating in the summer and fall. The service at Palmer Alehouse was absolutely terrible. The staff acted like they were doing us a favor by even acknowledging us. Most of them seemed entitled, unprofessional, and had major attitudes, it felt like they just didn't want to be there. I've been to a lot of restaurants in my time, and I have to say the service here was some of the worst I've experienced. I have never witness staff act like they were too busy or too important to take care of the customers properly. I waited far too long for everything, to be greeted, to get a drink, to place my order. When the food finally came, it was nothing to write home about. The servers seemed more interested in chatting with each other than checking on their tables. No sense of professionalism or courtesy. I won't be coming back, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent meal and good service. Very disappointing. If you're looking for friendly service or a place that respects its customers, this is NOT it. Avoid at all costs. read more

Used to be a solid spot, but Palmer Ale House has seriously gone downhill. The food is still decent, but it's nowhere near good enough to justify the attitude you get from the staff now. There's this tiny guy with glasses who is the first person you see, yet he treated me and my group like we were wasting his time just by being there. completely dismissive. Our server was flat-out unprofessional the entire time. No manners, no friendliness, just a bad attitude from start to finish. It's a shame because Palmer could really use more ale houses, but with better service and ownership that actually gives a damn. I saw the owner reply to someone else's review a few times and completely dismiss what they went through! Absolutely zero accountability, just gaslighting. That alone says everything you need to know about how this place is run now. Not sure if it's under new ownership, but something definitely changed. Last year? Staff was better, food came out faster, and it actually felt like a place worth coming to. Now it's just trash. I'd love to see another ale house come into town and knock this one out of the water. Palmer deserves better than this. It needs a new owner! read more

My first visit to this excellent restaurant. An extensive selection of craft beers, great cocktails and absolutely delicious food. I was here at lunch and ordered the Beefy Cheese Sandwich on toasted sourdough bread. The bread was fresh baked and delicious lightly toasted piled full of sliced roast beef, red onion, cheese and an horseradish sauce. The beef was tender, sliced perfectly and ample. The cheese melted just right and the red onion fresh and flavorful. Overall the sandwich was outstanding. It came with your choice of French fries, tomato basil soup or a salad. For 2.90 you could upgrade to onion rings or sweet potato fries. I choose the cup of soup which is made daily in-house. It was thick, very well seasoned and delicious. The soup was garnished with shredded cheese. I also had a non-alcoholic craft beer Athletic Brewing Company Hazy IPA. Until today I did not know that nonalcoholic craft beer existed. It was very much like actual real beer in taste and body. I have to find a source to replace the Coors and Odoul's nonalcoholic beer I have drinking for ever. This was wonderful. I will return to this restaurant to try their other selections and can highly recommend them. Good for everyone including families with many tables, bar seats and and upstairs dining room. Waited half an hour for a table, then another half an hour for food in the hot sun. The waitress offered to let us cash out the drinks only and leave before the food arrived. We agreed with their offer and asked to check out and leave. Then they came back and said it would only be ten minutes. Fifteen more minutes went by and we asked again to just pay for the drinks and leave, handing them a card. Then the manager comes out with the food packed to go, despite our request, having already ran the card with the food included, forcing us to pay. They refused to honor their own offer to us and forced us to pay for food after offering to let us walk away. The manager was rude and completely unreasonable. Easily the worst restaurant experience of my life. Go anywhere else. read more
