Herb is Great! We really didn't need a new roof on my daughter's house, but the insurance company was requiring it due to "granulation". Apparently a number of insurance companies are looking for reasons to get out of the Santa Rosa area - gee really? We got 5 estimates and went with Palmer. Herb and his crew were timely, efficient and responsive. We did have a problem with the clean up on the first day, but a discussion with Herb was all it took and the place was spotless at the end of Day Two! They removed a tube/cap that was no longer in use, patching the hole; they also removed a satellite dish that was no longer needed at no additional charge. First, Herb is a hands-on contractor. He is not an absentee proprietor but one who works side by side with his crew, doing all the "grunt" work that a good roofer must do. Second, his experience extends to 50 or more years in the trade, having begun with his dad when he was a boy. Third, his current crew (José, Jonathan, and Carlos) are eager and fearless young men who are able to navigate safely the tight and angled spaces of even a highly sloped roof (12/12 pitch or 45 degrees) such as ours, which many roofers will not address. They emulate Herb's high standards of workmanship and congeniality. Fourth, as an example of how thorough Herb and his crew are, he took the time to make careful "bevel" cuts, instead of "square" cuts, in the 3 1/2 inch sheathing. We had a wonderful experience in dealing with Herb Palmer and his crew. They were clean' prompt' polite' and very diligent in getting our job done. We had a 'not so typical' quite difficult job with a tear off' added ventilation' siding to remove' new wall-roof flashing to be installed (which hadn't been properly installed originally) plywood to repair' trim boards to be added/replaced caulked painted etc. It came out perfect. No remodel looking hodgepodge mess. Herb made a suggestion to use a 40 year Malarkey roofing product and were glad that he did. Its very nice looking lite weight (made with recycled materials) and considerably more quiet in rain storms. The added ventilation (Herb's suggestion) is already helping out on warm days. Herb also suggested we tear off the old roof' and again were glad we did as we found wood rot. We cannot say enough good things about Palmer Roofing the entire experience was a pleasure. We have nothing but the highest regard for Palmer Roofing. We called Palmer Roofing to fix several leaks in our roof in 2011[Palmer Roofing did NOT install this roof] based upon a referral we had from a highly regarded building contractor. Herb Palmer came out and honestly evaluated the situation: part of the problem could be fixed by re-doing a portion of the roof but he thought that a leak on the other end of the house was a result of an improperly installed fireplace chimney. He gave us a very reasonable estimate & his workers did a great job on the roof replacement for the back of our house house. We followed his advice with regard to troubleshooting the chimney leak & he was right. After more than 20" of rain we have finally have NO leaks.
