Great place for a special occasion, but they don't hit it out of the ballpark every time...maybe 4 out of 5 (hence 4 stars). The food at Palmer's has always been very good. My wife and I have only ever had steak here as entrees. My go to is a med-rare ribeye and my wife always goes with a mid-well filet butterflied (I know, I know...shaking my head as I type that). They also have a really good tomato and fresh mozzarella salad that is a great starter (the balsamic is what makes it stand out). Service here is pretty spot on the majority of the time and all of the people that we have interacted with have been friendly. I know this area is not very knowledgeable about seafood, but recently several local restaurants have taken to offering Chilean sea bass only to serve some imposter. Maybe they don't even know, but I asked the waiter if it was truly Chilean Sea Bass and he assured me that it was. But the fish I received was a flat, flaky white fish with little flavor and none of the succulent, oily texture of what I ordered. When he asked in passing how the meal was, I said this was not Chilean Sea Bass only to have him keep walking, ignoring my reply. We came here for our anniversary dinner at 5 pm on a Wednesday. They weren't seating people when we got there so we ordered a drink at the bar. The bar is small so we had to stand off in the back corner which was kind of annoying. When they sat us, our server Emmy(sp?) immediately came over and refilled our cocktails. She explained the menu in good detail which was nice. It wasn't too loud in the restaurant which was good so my husband and I could have a good conversation at dinner. The restaurant has Christmas decorations everywhere it was cute ! I ordered the 8 oz filet and it was perfection. Charred on the outside and soft on the inside with bone marrow butter on top. I ordered a twice baked potato which was delish. My steak came with a side salad which was your normal side salad. They brought complimentary bread. My husband ordered a 24 oz porterhouse steak - he said it was made to perfection. He also got a twice baked potato. He got the beer cheese popcorn soup and said he wouldn't have ordered that again. The ambiance was great for a nice romantic dinner. They brought us out a complimentary brownie and ice cream for our anniversary. Total bill for our 2 dinners with 2 drinks each was $175. Mind you I had $11 cocktails. The prickly pear margarita was so amazing I had to have 2! My only complaint is front bar area was crammed and nowhere to move or stand really, but there's nothing much that can be done about that. read more

I had the ribeye steak. It was cooked to perfect medium and the mushrooms added a wonderful zest. My wife had a striped bass with shrimp. The shrimp was spectacular, though the fish was a bit too spicy for my wife. Service was excellent with a nice pace to the meal. The setting was comfortable and the seating great in the dining room. We went for our anniversary and though we had a 7 o'clock reservation had to wait at the bar for awhile. My wife had the fried shrimp and loved both the quality and portion size. I had the French onion soup which was excellent then the small filet medium rare, it was done perfectly. It had been raining all day and was super humid outside. I think it was unexpected rain so my husband requested an outdoor seat. Even with the weather they didn't adjust anything! I was pretty surprised when they put us outside even though there was a cover. Some other people were outside and didn't seem to mind but I was right next to an opening and was getting sprinkled on! It was extremely muggy outside so I'm pretty surprised they still had the outside patio area open. They put some loud fans on im guessing to fix the humidity, but I felt like they were just loud and it was still muggy/humid outside. We asked to sit inside and they seemed annoyed and stated that it would be another 40 minutes if we wanted a table inside. My husband found two cramped seats at the bar so we went there. The bar tender was nice and pretty quick given how busy they were. The bread was really crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The butter was still very frozen which was a little annoyed for an upscale steakhouse. We started with salads that had a delicious peppercorn ranch. I got the filet with shrimp. The grilled shrimp was cooked perfectly and they were quite large. The steak was cooked well but definitely overly salty. The green beans were good, but it was as if they just sprinkled the seasoning on the top because only the few on the top were seasoned. My husband said his steak was good but over salted as well. The creamed corn wasn't really creamed and had a soupy sauce that was all at the bottom of the bowl. The risotto just tasted like buttery sticky rice and nothing like risotto should taste. The Mac and cheese had no cheese or flavor. It just tasted like noodles with a small amount of sauce at the bottom. Also the small and large sizes for sides was essentially the same and not worth the upcharge for the large. The fries were cooked perfectly. The peanut butter pie was delicious and is made in house! First time here. We had a gift card from our realtor so we made a reservation and were able to go on a Wednesday evening. Menu is very nice and we started with beautiful fresh oysters from Maryland. Outstanding! The makers mark manhattans were good, not great. The wine I ordered was mediocre at best. My husband didn't care for the NY strip but my shrimp was very good. Finally made it out to Palmer's, after living in Hartland for almost 18 years lol. Boy, have I been missing out! First, I thought their pricing was very reasonable for being a steakhouse. The brandy old fashioned was only $7 and the blueberry mule was $9. Then all our meals came with soup/salad and a side potato. That's unheard of if you were in Milwaukee. Normally everything is al a carte so this was a great surprise. I got the ribs and they literally fell off the bone. Not to mention the delicious barbecue sauce with them I tried David's filet and it was soo flavorful and had an awesome char. Even the salad in the beginning was great. I would caution anyone on purchasing gift cards/certificates from Palmers. My husband and I received what we thought was a gift card for Palmers. Originally we were told they could not honor it as it did not have a "bar code". We were given this as a gift and presented what we were given which had a dollar amount and the order number for the gift card purchase. The waiter told me that he can however look it up if I had the information for who purchased it (name, address, email or phone number). I provided all of this information and he came back to the table telling me he could not find anything. Due to this I called the owner the following day to try to resolve. When speaking to the owner he tells me that he can not find the purchase and that I needed the credit card number it was purchased on. Who remembers what credit card you purchase something on let alone have me call the person that bought this and inconvenience them to get this information. I could give him the purchaser name, address, phone number, email AND the week it was purchased! I also provided him with another gift certificate that was purchased on the same day by the same person for the lake country playhouse hoping that would help him. He said he needed time to research and get back to me. When he called me back the story once again changed, now I was told that he found the order but that he could not honor it without the "gift card". To which I reminded him this was purchased online; he also had the photos of the certificate we had received as the gift. He then changed his story telling me that there was a "gift certificate" that would have been mailed to the purchaser and confirmed their information and address! The purchaser never received any such "gift certificate" other than the one she printed online the day it was purchased. Palmers is not able to verify this due to poor record keeping as I was told by the owner Chris today that they don't keep records of the gift certificate numbers and changed the story again to tell me that it would have been a "paper gift certificate". Sadly this is a $100 of wasted money and a very poor experience. They have essentially profited $100 and are not willing to honor the gift card whatsoever. I even suggested he meet us in the middle and honor $50 as a concession to their poor business record keeping and he was not willing to even do that. I find it hard to believe that this has not happened to other people! He never once apologized or even offered any resolution. Something like a 50% off your next visit, a free round of drinks if you give us another try etc! On top of this, the last two meals we have had here were disappointing. Spent $215 and ordered a 45 day dry aged bone in rib eye. The flavor was lacking and not worth the money. I took my 19 year old son out for dinner for his birthday and he had requested steak so why not go to Palmers, it is always delicious! Made a reservation for 5:15, but had to choose the indoor dining room since the heated terrace was sadly not available. We arrived at 5:10 and were immediately seated. We got off to a bit of a slow start with our waitress coming to the table and drinks, but she made up for it. She was very friendly and the entire staff was attentive. I love restaurants that do not let your table sit full of empty plates! We ordered the tomahawk special - go big or go home! the meat was a little undercooked, we ordered medium rare and it was a bit on the rare side, but we did not mind. The sides were boring. You used to be able to get sides off the menu but now its standard issue baked potato, fries, etc. My other son ordered the ribs with a side of fries and he side it was good, not great. That's what he gets for ordering rib at a steakhouse! We also ordered the creme brulee which left me speechless. We will be back! read more

Wonderful casual, yet classy restaurant. The staff was very attentive and I felt like we were in a high-end restaurant, A+ service. This was our first visit, but we'll absolutely be back for more. We were celebrating my son's 17th birthday and he had the dry aged ribeye and absolutely loved it. I managed to sneak a bite and it was wonderful! We also had the salmon and pike and were very happy. For an appetizer we had the calamari and cheese curds, both were amazing. Definitely a great place for a special event or a regular nice night out (if you have the money). But points to them for the website reservation option. After checking in, we ordered a drink at the bar. Shortly after our table was ready. The restaurant has a supper club feel. The staff at the front and the bar were friendly. We ordered the oyster Rockefeller for an appetizer. The oysters were a good size and cooked well. Reminded me of the tasty oysters in New Orleans. The house salad veggies were fresh. I had a porterhouse steak which was cooked just right at the requested rare plus. My husband's filet mignon was cooked well, too. Just a side note they are only about 5 small button mushrooms that come with the meal so if you like a lot of mushrooms ordered another side. We also had a side of Brussel Sprouts. Some were overly charred but for the most part, were good. Overall the experience was great and would go again. Oh yes, the bread was served nice and hot! I took down a whole loaf myself (it was a small loaf). One ding was around my Perfect Manhattan. Drink sat at the bar for probably 10 or so minutes. It was pretty watered down when I received it. Outstanding dinner. We had a group of 6. Made our reservations well over 3 weeks ago. They hold the tables to 90 minutes. Situated in a quaint "downtown" area. Nice bar area- but I wouldn't want to have to eat dinner in there- as the night goes on, it gets busy and too much commotion and not a ton of room. We had two waiters tag teaming us- which is nice. The side choices all were delish- risotto, crispy fries, creamed corn, brussel sprouts. Yum! And enough to share with 2 or 3. We all chose steaks- filets and ribeyes- cooked to perfection. Not the tender and flavorful treat I was hoping for. I did not want to make a complaint at the table because I was a guest. But $70 for the meal that I had was outrageous and had I been the one who was paying, I would have raised a complaint immediately. My mom traveled in for Mother's Day weekend, so I took her to Palmers on Saturday, May 10th for dinner. I'm also an expectant mother and six months pregnant. For dessert, we wanted two strawberry crème brulees, but our waiter said we couldn't order them because they needed to sell the last vanilla one first. I joked, "I guess we're waiting!" and he replied, "You can stay all night, but what if we don't sell it by close?" Peter, while I understand that you don't make the rules, you are always a super condescending waiter. Rather than the restaurant allowing us to buy $25+ worth of dessert, they chose to force the sale of the one leftover vanilla. It was illogical and prideful. It isn't too often when ol' Geno gets to do a splurge meal like this!! In lieu, this deserves a review and a half. Starting off, I have to give a shout out to my daughter and son for funding most of this meal/drinks extravaganza. Secondly, this is one of my favorite places to eat for a splurge and fancy pants time. Starters were coctails at the bar. I had an old fashioned and the wife had a cosmo. Both were very nice. We were seated after our drink and proceeded to order a bottle of wine for the meal. Now, when i say we splugin', I mean we SPURGIN'!! We chose the red blend, Conundrum. We both chose the salad and it was accompanied by fresh, warm bread and butter. I had the Ribeye and the wife had the Saturday night special, prime rib. All the photos speak for themselves. It is as good as it looks. Already stuffed as a tick, we proceeded to have the peanut butter cheesecake as a split. Everything was top notch, from wait staff to food quality. Expect to pay close to $250 if you're gonna do it up like this, but hey, WOLO. It was a very nice treat and we both appreciate getting to experience nice meals like this.
