Forgot to get us from the bar after telling us to wait there while they got the table ready. After that staff forgot water, no salt or pepper, wrong salads either allergy warnings noted. Inside menu didn't match the outside. Food was good but not great. Tried to talk to manager but she was too busy running food to care. All in all if this is the best steakhouse in the area I feel bad for you all. For price point not worth it. Try outback instead. read more

We were staying at the Pfister and enjoyed a fabulous dinner here. Even if we weren't staying at the Pfister we would definitely enjoy a meal here. The bar is terrific with tons of seating and a wonderful lighter menu as well. We thought about enjoying a meal in the bar one night, but it didn't hash out. We did enjoy our cocktails before dinner at the bar. Everything from the butter, the crispy cracker bread to dessert was lovely. Those crackers omg. I think we asked for our bread basket to be refilled three times. The grill is definitely a perfect place to celebrate birthdays or bring company. We were surrounded by celebrations and business dinners, but it felt lively and fun. Our steaks and sides were perfectly cooked to order. Our server and his assistants were amazingly attentive. I recently stayed at The Pfister Hotel and had the chance to try the restaurant attached to the hotel. Overall, it was a great experience. I do want to mention that I arrived about 45 minutes before closing, but the staff was still incredibly accommodating and never made me feel rushed. I started with the mac and cheese, which had amazing flavor. It was a little saltier than I personally prefer, but the noodles and sauce were cooked perfectly. The only thing I would have changed is adding a little more cheese to make it even creamier. The complimentary bread wasn't my favorite since it was a little messy to eat, but if you enjoy a savory, crunchy bread, you'll probably like it. For my entrée, I ordered the ribs with mashed potatoes, and they paired so well together. Part of me wishes I had tried the braised short rib with the mashed potatoes, but I was still happy with my choice. The ribs were tender and practically fell off the bone. I would have liked a little more barbecue sauce, but they were still delicious. The mashed potatoes, though, completely stole the show. They were hands down the best part of the meal. 10 out of 10, and an absolute must try! The restaurant was pretty busy, which is always a good sign. I was seated in the back corner near the kitchen, which wasn't my favorite spot, but it didn't take away from the experience. The service was friendly and attentive, and overall I had a really enjoyable meal. Mason Street is always so hit of miss! Came in on a Monday night, and it was quite busy. We were told it would've an hour and half for a table. We checked and there were plenty of reservations online so we made one for 20 minutes later. We still had to wait 15 min past the reservation time, but way quicker than waiting an hour. Seems like they hold tables for online rezos instead of accommodating walk ins. Service was somewhat slow and it took a while to get a bread basket of flatbread, which was delicious. We got the caesars which are delicious as always. Mac and cheese and delmonico potato sides were ok - Mac was just ok, and the potatoes were good but they've been better in the past. Ribs and Heritage Steak were both pretty great. Our waitress was very nice, seemed like she was handling a lot. Dessert was Apple Crostada which was delicious. This is the restaurant attached to the Pfister Hotel. So it is on the pricey side. I came here twice during my stay. Here is the low down. Bread basket: not on the menu but ask for it. You get two slices of freshly made bread and Lavosh crackers coupled with the perfect consistency of spreading butter. And best of all it is free. Petite Filet mignon: had it medium rare, but meat was dry. Seasoning is ok. Definitely not worth the $56. Butternut squash ravioli: you get 5 pieces. Never had anything like it. Flavors were good but felt the paste edges were a bit hard which may indicate that it was sitting out a bit. Again not worth the price. Dark chocolate cake: for $12 it is a huge slice. I would definitely get it to share. But for being dark chocolate I felt it was still very sweet. Sorbet: I tried lemon, mango, blood orange. Skip the blood orange, when I tasted it, I could make out the blood orange at all. Lemon and mango were great. It's $5 for the first scoop and then $2.50 for additional scoops. Based on what I tried. The bread and sorbet are the only things worth it to me. Service is excellent and should be as this price. But I have to save James at the bar deserves serious kudos. I've never seen any bartender manage so many orders all at once while still making you feel like you are getting personal service. If you are just coming for drinks, this is a good option. The restaurant can be accessed from within the hotel and from the street. There is hotel parking garage and a lot across the street for parking. Unsure if they validate as I didn't have car. Restaurant is a decent size for the city with bar seating, small tables and booths. They do take reservations. read more

The service was hands down the best I've ever had at a restaurant--top to bottom, truly exceptional. 10/10 experience. Huge shoutout to Tyler. Also the restaurant is located in the phister hotel which was absolutely beautiful!! The bread was mid, but the Asiago-crusted crackers with whipped butter were excellent--easily the highlight of the bread service. The warm beet salad with goat cheese was wonderful. The nuts added a nice earthy balance and a great crunch, but the goat cheese was the star for me--light, herby, and perfectly paired with the beets. For entrées, I had the Linz Heritage Farms 16oz ribeye, cooked to perfection and topped with a blue cheese crust that complemented the steak without overpowering it. Excellent execution, chefs kiss. My wife ordered the butternut squash ravioli, and it was out of this world--rich, balanced, and one of the best dishes of the night. The mac and cheese was okay--nothing special, but a solid side dish. The Delmonico potatoes were absolutely phenomenal (10/10). Think au gratin-style potatoes taken to another level, with a rich cheese sauce baked right in. Easily the standout side. The Brussels sprouts were well seasoned and delicious, and the dipping sauce really brought everything together. Dessert sealed the deal. THE PARMESAN CRACKERS HIT THE SPOT. Arrived a bit late on a Saturday night and they were very busy, I'd recommend not being late like me, there is a 15 min grace period but after that the table goes to who's next. We sat at the bar, got drinks and food. Our bartender James was amazing, very attentive and friendly. The restaurant looked amazing, most were dressed casually but you can certainly dress up for an occasion if you wish. We were seated very close to the musicians and they have live music every day, it was such a lovely touch to the entire experience. The Parmesan crackers were offered sort of like a bread before the meal and they were delicious, tasted like a healthy cheez it. I had the fortune teller drink and my friend had a lemon drop, both were delicious and we felt great after. My friend had the pan chicken which she really enjoyed but did wish the portion was larger. I had the lamb ragu pappardelle which was a buttery type of sauce, very filling and the lamb was very tender. We finished our visit with a scoop of raspberry sorbet and another of salted caramel ice cream which were also delicious. We had a great experience at Mason Street Grill before a show at the Pabst. May be the best French onion soup I've ever had. Crab cakes and beef carpaccio are a must order for apps as well. Beef short rib for the main course was delicious! I will say, on a busy Saturday, the kitchen seemed slammed so entrees at our table came out a little less hot than we would have liked but nothing overly unacceptable. Whatever you do, don't skip the key lime pie. I was between and 3 and 4 with my visit this time! Visited before and was impressed, so was looking forward to it. We got there right as they opened. Everyone was so friendly and willing to be helpful. I appreciate the different areas for sitting, we got a booth this time. They had the risotto special which we have had before which is usually sooo tasty, this time it was just meh! I think the risotto was either under or over cooked--couldn't tell which but wasn't the consistency we were used to. The scallops however were great. I was excited for the Surf n Turf dish I got cause of the lobster but I did notice it was stuffed with something else in addition to the cheese on top, which tasted like the plastic container it was stored in while also being a weird grainy texture. We figured it was probably to supplement the meat inside which seemed skimpy to begin with. Broccoli was delicious (my favorite) and the mac n cheese was just okay! Before our return to Milwaukee, Mason Street Grill was one of our first stops. We were tourists. We have lived here for two years, and we haven't returned. Restaurant behavior is so odd. Maybe it's because Mason Street is in a building that houses the Pfeister Hotel. Who knows? We finally dined there last Friday night with another couple. With nightly jazz, Mason Street immediately gives me that "downtown big-city" vibe. It's different than most restaurants in Milwaukee. Mason Street Grill has sophistication. Milwaukee isn't what one would call a sophisticated town. As a NYC native, it was a pleasant change of pace. After being escorted into the clubby, large dining room, we nestled into one of the booths. Sadly, the food on this particularly evening was not up to par. My swordfish had too much crap piled on it. The sauce, garnishes, etc killed the flavor of the swordfish. The steaks tasted fair, not as good as in the past. Perhaps Covid hit the Mason Street Grill with a knockout blow. I don't know. I must return to make a clear judgment. However, it still gets five stars despite the lapses from the kitchen. The bill for two appetizers, two appetizers, two glasses of wine and two very powerful cocktails came to $221.00. read more

First the food, I ordered a petite filet and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. I added a side of peppercorn sauce which was fantastic. My sides were delmonico potatoes and truffle creamed spinach. The potatoes were cheesy, creamy and piping hot. I'm not a huge truffle fan but the cream spinach had a very subtle truffle flavor. Both sides were outstanding, shareable and perfect accompaniments to the steak. The flavors were fantastic. Christopher was my server and he was a perfect gentleman and excellent at his job. After about a year, I've decided to update my review. During this year, my father has had this love affair with Mason Street Grill. As I've previously mentioned, he loves Filet Mignon, jumbo shrimp cocktails, and Creme brûlée. And, Mason Street Grill has been knocking it out of the park for him. We've probably spent a couple of thousand dollars this year alone keeping him well fed and grinning. The people there are really fantastic. The service is top. And, we always have a stellar time. I give it five stars for all of the above. However, there are a few things they could upgrade: the vegetarian options are rather limited. The only main dish is a $34 pasta that was not good as it was drenched in vinegar (what is up with all the vinegar in Wisconsin?). I do like the sides: the Mac and cheese, French fries, whipped potatoes and green beans, but that isn't really ideal for a meal. It would be wonderful if they could offer at least one great Italian dish that would keep me as happy as my dad. But, that is just a suggestion. Hint. Hint. Honestly this would be a five star review were it not for our arrival and seating experience. First the good! The petite filet was fantastic. The mushroom soup was flavorful and packed with that umami essence. We shared sides, so I got a sampling of a few. The broccoli was charred perfectly. The garlic spinach was creamy and flavorful. The gnocchi Mac and cheese was outstanding, as you would expect any cheese dish in Wisconsin. Our server was a spitfire, she was all over the place and on top of every aspect of our orders. As for the bad. We made reservations days in advance. The hostess broke up our seating and we were seated at different tables. Understandable if they didn't have tables our facilities to seat our group, but they did and those tables were empty. Again, 5 star food but do not recommend for groups. read more

They had some great craft cocktails, but were smaller portions and a little more expensive than I'd usually pay for something like that. Three of us dined at the restaurant recently with an out-of-town visitor. Our server was very good and recommended wines that matched with our dishes well, but the service was a bit slow probably because the restaurant was quite full. The menu is large, and there are quite a few choices other than steaks despite its reputation as a steak house. I ordered Hudson Canyon Seared Scallops as my main course; the dish was quite flavorful, although the scallops were not as tender as those that I had at other restaurants in town. I also ordered the Seafood Gumbo soup and found the soup to be better than most outside those I had in New Orleans. The restaurant has a fine dining setup, and the price certainly reflects that. The quality of food is good but nothing amazing. As a hotel restaurant, it needs to have the capacity to serve a large number of customers when holding events, likely requiring standardization and limiting room for innovation. So, for the same price or a little less, one can find better-quality food elsewhere in Milwaukee based on my view. read more

After going to carnevore and carbon steak this steakhouse doesn't seem that great. We made a reservation for 6 people on a Thursday night. For 6 people the bill was $616... my 7 oz filet was okay. My steak at carnevore and carbon steak were about same price and tastes way more amazing. They charge $18 for mushrooms !!! - get out of here. Brussel sprouts not that great. Incredible moist texture, rich flavor and perfect cream cheese icing. The rest of this is a review for the bar at Mason Street Grill, but we've also had takeout from the dining room and were completely delighted with the service and quality of the food. Bottom line, Mason Street Grill is a special occasion kind of place that isn't stuffy and stressful. Count on easygoing and friendly staff, quick and very accomodating service. They make a truly exceptional old fashioned too. It's not a cheap place. A total of four cocktails and one appetizer (great margherita flatbread) came to about $100. Cheap though I am, I thought it was worth it for great food and drinks in a very comfortable and warm environment. We'll definitely return the next time we're in Milwaukee. read more

Came for happy hour after a work event. One of the strangest interactions i ever had w a server, who didn't come to check on us. Wanted to catch the fourth quarter of the Bucks playoff game and in a sporty atmosphere so we left cash on the table and put on our coats. (Have I mentioned the server did not check on us?) We are return visitors to The Pfister Hotel and have always enjoyed our stays. This was our first visit to Mason Street Grill and we were impressed with the food and the service. Olivia was a delight to have as our server! She was helpful with our questions about the entrees and well-informed on the menu. My scallops were very good, but the highlight (for both of us) was my husband's filet. Living in northern Cook County, we have been to most of the top steakhouses in Chicago and his Filet with Brandy Peppercorn Sauce was phenomenal! One of the best ever.
