I absolutely loved my experience here. Even before sitting down you get to meet some of the most interesting people in the city. If you are interested in a members-only club then this is the place to be if you are interested in networking over some good food. As for the actual food, I got the 1231 Burger off recommendation from my friend. The burger was amazing and I would raise my praises to claim that it is the best burger in Columbia. The fries were fantastic and the burger itself was massive. I also got onion rings and I would also rate it as the best I've had in South Carolina so far. For final remarks, I would like to give praise to the staff and the building itself. The staff members were efficient and incredibly professional. A waitperson will confirm that you're vegetarian whole giving you the lobster bisque, then you will get a plate of steamed vegetables covered in butter. No carbs or grains. No protein. I have been to the Palmetto Club several times this year. I have recently been there the last two days taking a Realtor class. We were there from 8:30 until 7:00 PM yesterday and 8:30 until 4:00 today. The remodeling that was done is very nice. It's a lot less dreary than it was before. The service we received while we were there was very good. The staff is very attentive to our needs. It's a great place to do a business meeting, class, conference, or just enjoy the dining room. After class last night we had a little cocktail party downstairs. The fruit was delicious and the staff is very good about wanting to pick up dirty dishes immediately. The food is very good overall. Yesterday and today they served us a delicious fresh salad and deli meat. The other times I have gone I have gotten salads, soup, and their fried chicken. My husband loves the eggs benedict they serve. We were also there on Father's Day. They did an amazing BBQ buffet lunch that was really good. It wasn't as crowded as I thought they would be. I guess not as many dad's go out to lunch on Father's Day. Mother's Day was packed and we could not get reservations. I am a member of Cobblestone, and with my membership there I receive dining privileges at Palmetto Club and Capital City Club. It's a very nice private club. The valet parking is extremely helpful. There is a small parking lot in the rear of the club which you can usually get a parking place at on weekends. If you ever get a chance to go with a member, you really should try to go. Or try to get a membership. It's just a nice atmosphere and a really nice place to go. I will definitely be back as often as I can. It's also a great place to take my clients for lunch. Update..... I just had a large family dinner here. We reserved a private room. EVERYBODY loved the place and the food was amazing! I had the ribeye steak. That's definitely one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. The service was excellent too. For once I pleased the entire family which is a huge accomplishment. Hats off to the Palmetto Club!!! This place is the worst reciprocal club I've ever been to. It's like going to a golden corral. Food was horrible, drinks were watered down, staff shirts not pressed. Wine glasses delivered with dripping wine. Ribeye cooked week done. Food delivered to the table Wong twice. I can't make this stuff up. Never again. Almost forgot when we walked in they pointed to the room our table was in then we walked around the room looking for our 4 top. Food quality is always great. Delicious evening meals, a great place for lunch. Service staff -- particularly Veronica -- is without compare. Service is professional and concern for members and guests is always evident. She crab soup is a club specialty. Fried shrimp lunch special on Friday is a great way to end the week. Always a great place to hold events -- from a small lunch in a private room to a raucous 50th anniversary party with nearly 100 guests. I have come here often because of my grandparents' membership and have been disappointed in the food quality of the holiday buffets before, but usually impressed by the tap room. However, tonight I ordered the chocolate pot de creme dessert and it was absolutely coated with mold. So much so that I thought it was a matcha powder or some herb powder that was supposed to be there. Just to double check, I looked at my sister's dessert and her's was completely uncoated. I don't like making scenes in restaurants, so I just kept it to myself without making any remarks to the staff. However, I am extremely disappointed and will not be dining here again. Old line downtown eating club that has recently updated to a more comtemporary feel. While the service has improved, I really miss the traditional upstairs dining room. The Palmetto Club is famous for its she-crab soup and fried oysters. Our brunch today was fantastic. What they called a root vegetable quiche seemed more like a soufflé--it was out of this world! I toured the Palmetto Club in downtown Columbia for a school field trip just this past week. The purpose of the tour was to show us the actual club itself and to most importantly inform us of its functions and purpose. The trip was coordinated by our Hospitality Club Management professor, and the objective was to learn about city clubs and what they have to offer. Every student who participated in this tour left satisfied and confident with the club's ability to cater to each person that visits their club. They adjusted their tour to us knowing that we were all hospitality students by making it informative and educating us about the business and their guests. Each tour guide made sure to tell us how he or she got involved in the business and their specific role in the club as well. This made it easy for each student to talk to them and get their business cards if we had any further inquiries after that day. The management of the Palmetto Club addressed the issue of our large group by dividing us into smaller tour groups to walk around with. Each group had a management member guide us around and narrate each room as we went. This made it easy to ask questions and have a conversation between rooms if we wanted to. The employee assigned to my tour group was the head of event planning at the city club and was exceptional at explaining each aspect of the functions of the club. After every individual group was done touring all the students met together with the management and were free to ask any questions we acquired during the tour. The manager was very well spoken and was able to answer all the inquiries we had about the club and the opportunities it had for us as potential members and workers. The tour wasn't too flashy and it didn't feel as if they were attempting to recruit us and as a result was an enjoyable learning experience. The Palmetto Club in downtown Columbia caters to anyone who is looking for a consistent source of good, quality foods as well as a social break to their day as well. Although the club's members are typically older they ensure their guest satisfaction by hosting events for each age group. The club offers multiple opportunities for the guests to use the club's amenities to their advantage. They can rent out any of the rooms including the smaller, more intimate ones for events such as business lunches, dinner parties, or game day events. Members also have the opportunity to rent out their bigger rooms for events such as weddings, fundraisers, and so on. Members aren't the only ones who can take advantage of the club's lavish rooms, anyone who wishes to rent out a space has to meet a couple of the club's requirements and they are also allowed to host events their as well. The entire experience at the Palmetto Club was very enjoyable and I would definitely recommend it for anyone who is interested in the club business or in joining a city club. The tour guides were informative and inviting as well as genuinely interested in the students they were hosting. I toured the Palmetto Club with my class to learn how our lessons about club management are applied in real life. I got a firsthand look at club culture and how a city club caters to its members' needs. Although I am not a member who frequents the club, it was evident to me that the staff enjoy what they do to provide that exclusive experience for their members. Upon my arrival at the club, I was welcomed by two employees at the front desk. They directed me downstairs to the Palmetto Room where the general manager, Mr. Howard Jarrett, began his presentation. He summarized the history of the Palmetto Club and its merger with the Summit Club, and then he introduced Ms. Hannah Bradley who oversees member relations and Ms. Wendy Tidwell who is the catering director and does the club's event planning. They both described their duties at the club, and the class divided into three tour groups led by each of them. I joined Ms. Tidwell's group, and we walked through the entirety of the Palmetto Club. As a city club, it is limited to the space of one building with two main wings, so the most efficient way to see the facility is by foot. Since there are three floors, there seems to be a lot of stairs, but the club is still relatively compact and easy to navigate. Ms. Tidwell escorted us into the kitchen where we saw the back of house staff preparing for lunch, and then she led us upstairs to see the ballroom where larger events like weddings, receptions, and proms take place. We walked downstairs again, passed a series of smaller rooms available for dining for smaller parties, and continued to the club's other wing. All three of the tour groups finished in the tap room, and our hosts sent us off with a warm farewell. Throughout the tour, Ms. Tidwell explained how much of the clientele are members who dine in, especially around lunch on weekdays, and often with guests with whom they are doing business. She also relayed how the Palmetto Club will accommodate nonmembers who wish to host an event by having a club member sponsor them. Whether planning an event for a member or nonmember, Ms. Tidwell takes care to help them plan the menu, how they want their space set up, and the timetable for the event. She schedules workers for the events and ensures they all run smoothly. Not only does she have her realm of catering and special events evidently well-organized, but she also displays knowledge of and genuine care for both her front of house and back of house staff. Ms. Tidwell was extremely kind to share her knowledge of club hospitality and did an excellent job escorting us on our tour and explaining the club's operations. Overall, the Palmetto Club had exemplary presentation: all the rooms were neat, clean, and orderly, and the staff that we encountered were all very friendly and hospitable. The club provides its members an alternative to public dining in the center of downtown Columbia and with quality service and a personal touch to cater to each individual's needs. This is especially convenient for members who are businessmen and women in the area and who want to take their clients out to eat in a more private and professional setting. The Palmetto Club additionally offers reciprocity with other local clubs such as Cobblestone Park Golf Club and Windermere Club. The tour made me more seriously consider entering the club business, and the club's willingness to give students like us a sample of how they operate does much to promote the club business and club culture to young adults who can dedicate many years to the industry or who are potential junior members.
