Case is the man. My dad and I had an impromptu panhandle weekend trip and Case was our guide when we booked a canyon tour. He provided a lot of history, gave great recommendations and was just an all around badass dude. Would definitely recommend taking a tour with him and would def come back.

Weather was perfect yesterday 1/3/21 and even though I wanted to go horseback riding and couldn't as there was no more availability and my reservation the day before for my birthday was cancelled due to weather at another facility, the jeep tour was a much better experience and convenient! My kids and I had So much fun! Our jeep tour guide, Chris, was awesome and funny! Will go back! Glad I found this place before heading home!

Our family just got finished with our exciting jeep tour this afternoon. What a ride! Our driver, Case, knew so much about the canyon and was very entertaining. We did the one hour ride and it was great! We already agree that we will do the longer one next time, so that we can go all the way down to the bottom. The views are spectacular and the jeep is such a fun experience. It's remarkable the terrain it can handle. Awesome time! Thanks, y'all!

This review is for the Palo Duro Jeep tour at Palo Duro Creek Ranch (formerly Elkins Ranch). We booked a Jeep tour online months in advance. When we arrived for the tour the gate was shut and it stated it was closed. I tried calling for 20 minutes while sitting at the gate, and messaged them on Facebook. Finally, I received a call back and the gentleman said he was on the other line and seemed annoyed I had called so many time. Maybe 5 in 20 minutes? I told him that I was worried and didn't know what was going on. He asked me what I meant. I told him we had a 4:00 tour...? He said all tours had been cancelled and we should have been notified. I have no emails from them and no calls. Then he said my name was scratched out which meant I had cancelled, which I did not. We set the miscommunications aside and he offered us a longer tour the next morning for the same price. Fair enough. We arrived the next morning and the woman had no idea whether we had paid or not, but took our word for it. We were excited to see the Blackhawk advertised and pictured on the website. We actually booked the "the Blackhawk" tour. There was not a Blackhawk anywhere. I don't think they have one. They have some rundown humvee's that literally weren't working. We were told we would do the tour in a Polaris ATV. Ok, but not what we were promised. The tour started on the flat farm land where we fed the cows. It had snowed a few days before and many of the trails weren't passable which is understandable.... but it was obvious they were using up time for the 2 hour tour. Once we finally got to the canyon, it was incredible. The lady doing our tour was very nice and knowledgeable. She stopped at photogenic spots and took our photos. The tour ended 20 minutes early, and we spent the first 30 minutes feeding cows... so about 40 minutes of the two hour tour was spent not in the canyon. But hey, I only paid for a one hour tour. I wouldn't have been pleased if I had paid the 2 hour tour price. I understand many of the trails weren't passable, but if you can't complete a 2 hour tour due to conditions, just sell the one hour tour. Felt bad for the other couple who purchased upon arrival. Overall, the main office area seemed rundown. It needed paint, and the road driving in needed some work. There were a lot of disappointing communications, but the views were stunning and our tour guide was very nice.

I have to say, I was most pleasantly surprised by this park. I did not have high expectations, as…read moreit sits alongside Lake Meredith in a rather isolated region far away from other park sites. When we arrived on a cool, sunny Saturday in late spring, we found it totally empty and ours "for the taking". The drive from the main road to the interior of the park quickly becomes scenic over the rolling hills and outcrops of dolomite and flint. West Texas standard flora abounds on these short plateaus and rocky hillsides. Think agaves, cacti, yellow wildflowers, and wiry, weather-worn trees. You can drive on in two different directions from the visitor center and snag up-close-and-personal views of the limestone boulders strewn about the park. One particular road offers several further explorations via dirt roads. We even came upon a stand-alone hoodoo in the midst of a valley surrounded by sentinel hills. Back at the visitor center, you will of course find a typical large assortment of goodies. Stickers, patches, books, stuffed animals, t-shirts, magnets, and many more trinkets. Don't forget to get your parks passport stamped! The staff, though in short supply these days, was very helpful. There are ranger-led tours usually at 10:00 and 13:00 everyday if staff is available and if the weather is not too hot. (Y'all it gets hot here in the summer - it is the desert after all!) Last but certainly not least, there is a walk through mini-exhibit explaining the geological and historical significance of the area's flint deposits. Not to be missed are two videos - one on flintknapping and one on the history and relevance of the area and its people. Best of all? This park is totally free to visit, so you owe it to yourself to get out here.

We really enjoyed the hike and getting to see the beautiful flint that nature created out there. We loved Ranger Elaine and her inspirational life story and her passion for her job and the quarries.

The nice folks who checked us in and the spectacular location are worth much more than three stars. Additional pluses: the sites are mostly level and the grade is flatter than the state park. Negatives: we had to change sites to find working electricity and available water. Biggest issue: THERE CURRENTLY ARE NO BATHROOMS OR SHOWERS. The bathroom facility has burned to the ground, which I imagine has been awful for the owners. However, I wish this had been on their website and in the reservation confirmation when we booked our site a week ago. Our trailer does not have a bathroom or shower, so we likely would've changed travel plans if we had known. Overall, it's a fine campground (tents are here, too), feels remote but is near restaurants, and it's nice to be able to book online. I advise asking about facilities before booking, though.

Even with it being no frills, I really enjoyed this RV spot. It is right down the road from Palo Duro Entrance. Across the road is the Jeep Tours which was allowing hiking to get access to the canyon since the State Park was limiting visitors to Day passes due to COVID-19. In the evening at the RV park, we were able to walk down to the canyon area and had beautiful views. Absolutely gorgeous! All of the staff at the site was very nice. They kept the area clean and tidy and they are making many improvements to the site including mini-cabins which are really cute. I would stay again at this RV campsite.
