I've been here many times and made several purchases over the years. Today is the first time I've left feeling extremely upset and disappointed. Some of the staff were whispering closely face to face in the middle of the store and when I looked directly at them I felt strongly by their reaction that I was the subject. The Staff is helpful in assisting you with finding a product in the store. The Return Policy is NOT shared with customers. Issues with a product are NOT shared with customers. Therefore, if you should happen to have an issue and/or wish to return an item to the store, you are quite simply OUT OF LUCK. I would never recommend the store for those reasons. I bought an expensive sweater the staff knows badly sheds all over everything you come near, and they neither told me about it nor would they accept the sweater back as a return. read more

I almost did not stop here based on these old reviews...I'm assuming they took them to heart and changed the service because my experience was so great. I wish I could have stayed hours and bought the whole store. The designer denim selection is amazing and I loved seeing Mother, Velvet, Michael Stars and oh my gosh so much Frank & Eileen. Sara was so incredibly helpful and so knowledgeable about every style as well as some they didn't have. The dressing rooms are also nice and big which was great with my wild toddler. This is going to be my first stop next time I get to Carmel so I can spend some dedicated time just enjoying myself among beautiful clothes. read more

Great clothes, awful service. I am so disappointed, my parents rave about this store all the time. They spend a lot of money here and absolutely love the clothes, but today we had an awful experience with one of the women working there. She ran up to my father when he was curiously looking at the size pf a jacket on the mannequin and screamed at him in a very passive aggressive manner that "you cannot touch the mannequin". Honestly it was so rude that my father took a step back and mentioned to her "excuse me, that was a really rude way to say that to me". The woman took extreme offense to this, rudely responded by rolling her eyes and it was just so awkward and unnecessary. Another shopper in the store stopped my dad as she was leaving and agreed with him that this sales rep was unnecessarily rude for no reason. Totally get if you have a store policy, but the way it was enforced was totally disrespectful and frustrating when we proceeded to spend over $600 even after this encounter. Shopping splurge here! I wanted the yellow dress on the window display, but they didn't have my size and a bit too long. While I was perusing anyways since I went in, there was this nice ruffle black dress that was nicely styled and yet chic. Tried it on, loved the fit and flare unexpectedly when it was on me, and rang it up! It's fit for many occasions and can be dressed up or down. I think it's one of the more expensive dresses I've bought to date. read more

Very disappointed with the customer service at this establishment. My sister, my mom and I walked in to browse on our trip to Carmel, and as we were looking at potential dresses to buy, we noticed the women working in the store giving each other looks and motioning to each other to keep an eye on us. There was absolutely no reason for this reaction, and we immediately left. As seen in many other reviews, this seems to be a reoccurring issue at this establishment. Major envy! Paloosh is a lovely boutique located in the middle of all these wonderful shops in the town of Carmel. Now, for those of you who never been to Carmel, Carmel is a city where the extremely wealthy live. I always contemplate which is more expensive to live at; Carmel or Beverly Hills? They are almost at the same level. Anyways, Paloosh features the most adorable and drool worthy clothing ranging from gorgeous dresses to Gucci style jackets, the most adorable duffle bags (as pictured below) and so much more; think of the type of clothing that Elle wears in Legally Blond or Emily from the Netflix shows Emily in Paris which automatically makes you think- way too expensive and you are right. T shirts are in the $100 range and dresses, jackets, pants and skirts range around from $300 to $600 a piece; way too expensive in my opinion. It frustrates me because whenever my husband and I visit Carmel, I have to come here to admire the clothing or try on a few pieces with the torture of knowing I could never afford to buy anything. Lovely boutique but unfortunately, my wallet can't afford me to be so lavish. read more

This store has the most beautiful, fashionable, & trendy clothes. To jackets, dresses, jeans and jewelries. I came in with my mom and twin sister. I usually don't write reviews but this time I had too tell my point of view. I was wearing regular light blue washed-out jeans with a bright orange sweater. Right when we walked in, I giggled and called my sister and mom over. I was MATCHING the mannequin. The display clothes were identical and made us all laugh. I notice the 4 females employees looked at each other and laughed in a corner. That is absolutely so rude and that should be a compliment. Scoping around the store, I notice lots of brand names in this store and I was in total shock (I am a brand fashion nerd). The pricing was outrageous and in my head i rather buy those brands from their own store or even online since i know for a fact its "cheaper". Anyways, my point is while shopping I notice the 4 females employees eyeing on us. Looking at us head to toe. I heard whispers that made us feel very uncomfortable. My twin sister notice they had an Aviation section and i walked over to her. I heard the girls giggling and giving us "mean girls" looks. We felt like uh we couldn't afford it? I walked away and went to another section and one of the girls shouted at me "YOU SHOULD BUY THAT, YOU SHOULD BUY" and said it 3 times. I was caught off guard. The bottom line is the females working there are very rude and made their customers uncomfortable. We didn't appreciate how we felt leaving the store. Glad we didn't buy anything. I hope employees read this and the manager of the store calls their staff for a meeting to change their attitude and character. This store is cute and they're displays draw in customers. However, their customer service is not great. I can tell that some staff cater better to certain races. I really do not want to play the race card but it really felt like the staff here is a little racist. I came in with my friend, she's white and blonde, I'm asian. I was pretty well dressed wearing designer everything so I wasn't sure why they looked me over. I cringe as I type this because it's making me uncomfortable but just giving you some background information. I just don't know why the staff was all over my friend when I was willing to spend money on this store and I didn't look like a pauper wandering in the streets. Anyway, their stuff is way overpriced anyway. Some of their sweaters were around $300-400 (not designer). I got a pair of earrings that were pricey for how tiny they are. I could go down a couple of blocks to Tiffany's and would've gotten way better service for a better quality item for the same price! I just bought something ridiculous so I can show the staff that I can buy shit. My friend got a shirt. I'm trying to be funny about a serious situation. Walking in the store looked cute but upon entering me and my family, keep in mind are Hispanics, we were not greeted, we got weird stares from the staff, and overall felt uncomfortable being closely watched and followed by the staff. BEWARE this place does not offer refunds!!! Even within 24 hours!!! And they are deceptive in not letting the customer know this when they know the customer is unsure about the item. I go to Carmel about twice a year or so and have been to this store a couple times. This time I was looking at buying two shirts. One of the shirts was a size bigger than I usually go so I asked for my size but they didn't have it. I expressed concern that it might be too big even though it was cute so I was debating but was reminded by the sales rep it was the last one. So I bought it with plans to try it on for my husband later to see what he thought. My husband pointed out that it was too loose in the sleeves and when I bent over you could totally see the whole underneath of my bra (it was somewhat cropped). The very next day I went back to the store to return it, tags attached of course with the receipt and very tissue paper and bag they gave me. This was a different woman who was there who immediately said there are no refunds only store credit that it said it at the bottom of the receipt. So after you purchase the item that is when you see that it's non refundable??? She then said there was a little post-it on the back of her computer (to the side of where you check out) with a makeshift hand written tiny note that says no refunds that I'm suppose to see before checkout. My question is, if the saleswoman knew I was unsure about the size why did she not mention this no refund policy?? I've never returned anything here so had no idea. The woman I saw the next day was not polite and simply repeated over and over it is the owner's policy. I said I did not want a store credit because there was nothing else I wanted and don't live in the area but she still repeated the same thing. She took my number and said she would have the owner reach out. Several days later I get a call from the same person (not the owner) only to repeat the exact same thing. My problem is not the $200 wasted on a shirt but the clear deception in no visible signs throughout the store (You are suppose to read a tiny handwritten post it on the back of a person's personal computer off to the side of the desk???). It's actually California law that you have to clearly and visibly display this in the store if you don't offer refunds within 30 days. I pointed this out but the woman on the phone continued to just say it was their policy and kept talking over me in circles not letting me complete a sentance. So rude. Never going back and anyone considering going there please beware. **Also I notice they have some new items on the first few racks in the store but when I go back about every 6 months or so much of it is the same items from seasons ago at full price and limited sizes FYI. It's like the leftovers no one wanted. And they always try to push jeans on you even though you say repeatedly over and over again that you do not need any jeans. The design of the store and some pieces are lovely. The staff is made up of insecure 30 and 40-something year old women who overcompensate by acting like teenaged mean girls. I have never felt so bullied in my life. I asked to see some simple straight leg pants, and they insisted I'd look better in flairs and cropped pants instead. When I didn't go for it, they basically straight up ignored me. I mean as in they barely acknowledged me when I was at the checkout buying a few pieces of jewelry (PS. they claimed the pieces were local designers, but the stuff was so cheaply made it tarnished less than a few months after purchase)... read more

I'll start with the good. Paloosh is one of the only contemporary designer stores in Carmel. They carry nice brands and they have clothing and accessories that you really won't find elsewhere in Carmel. Now the bad. The staff (similar to their sister store down the street) are snooty. I've left offended on multiple occasions. They also don't let you take beverages into their store. Like, what? I really hope they rethink their employee training and beverage policy. Not sure why I keep reading negative reviews about this place and it's sister store, Girl Boy Girl on Mission but I have NEVER had anything but great service in either of these places. The staff is always friendly and helpful even when they are slammed with tourists and "lookers". I tend to look like something the cat drug in when I am out and about and if anyone ever looked like they didn't belong in one of these stores, it would be me and yet- I always get treated well. So it's almost the holidays and I wanted to find a cute dress to wear for the BF's company Holiday party. After all, I want to look good as his arm candy. I walk in to some great selections that I expect from an upscale boutique. But then I get then I get the snotty attitude and poor service that I don't expect from a shop in Carmel. I wanted some help in finding a dress size and the salesgirl just laughed in my face. After not bothering to greet or be helpful, she just looks at me and blows me off with this attitude, saying "Sorry, we don't carry your size." without bothering to try finding me a size. I was so incensed. Just because I'm curvy doesn't mean that I can't fit into the clothes there! I dropped the dress at the nearest counter and walked out. Normally, I put the clothes back. I used to work in retail and knew how much it sucks for people to just leave clothes everywhere. But I couldn't help myself. During my last visit to the area, I noticed a cute shirt in the window and had to stop in. There is a great selection of cute and trendy clothing here. I tried on a few items and fell in love with a couple. I also bought a Clare V. leather bag, that quite frankly, cost a hair less here than it did on the designer's website. I love to vacation once a year in Monterey and Carmel. My hubby takes me up and down the streets to shop for my birthday. I walked in the this store bc I know the brands ( I am a designer freak...lol) and the displays are so cute. Of course like most gals in beach towns... I was in trendy animal print fabletics leggings and top. The staff looked at me like I didn't belong. They talked with me like I couldn't afford 300.00 jeans! ( I have more than a 25k wardrobe!) I was also told that the brand I was looking at "mother" doesn't cater to "curvy" bodies bc there isn't much stretch. FYI I AM A SIZE 6. 38"27"38. So not only did they make me feel like I wasn't financially worthy. I felt a little body shamed. So I killed them with kindness. I know I look good in The Tom Cat mother jeans. I asked for my size. Asked for opinions on the way they looked. And of course I purchased them. They seemed a bit surprised. And as soon as they knew I was there to buy... attitude changed. I'm not sure if it's a sales tactic. But proving myself worked. I did buy the jeans... 270.00 bucks later I am happy that I could show them I could shop there and I love my jeans. I thought maybe I was being over sensitive... but this type of behavior from the staff... it's on almost all the reviews! So it wasn't just me being sensitive. read more

UPDATE - 3/31/2008: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I went into mild cardiac arrest this weekend while doing my laundry. I was unloading and I noticed that my new pair of white True Religions had this yellow stuff on them. I went into a panic and I realized it was the leather label that had bled onto the pants. I called them the next day and Casey, a manager, took down my number and information. She called me the next day saying they could get me a new pair with a different, non bleeding, cloth label! I did fret...but they totally came through!! I live about an hour and a half away and I make sure to make a trip to Carmel (mainly to go to this store) at least once every season. I have read some seriously lousy reviews on this site of both Paloosh and GBG and I don't get it. I wonder if people who remark with disdain that, for example, a Vince cashmere sweater is 'pricey', have any idea that same sweater bears a price tag FROM VINCE. While I live and shop in LA and NY, I'm not gorgeous, rich or young and I am treated just fine at both places. What I appreciate about both stores is that they often have my size and, most importantly, styles and colors that sell out on arrival day at department stores. I almost always find something here. They probably are tight about returns & exchanges, but you should know that walking into any upscale boutique. They simply cannot afford to service you if you change your mind. We'd all always like that option but it's hardly a secret small stores rarely accept returns. Shop accordingly and shop with confidence. Try walking in with a smile, people. I've been buying from the same sales people at both stores for years and they are no more or less 'individual' at Paloosh & GBG than anywhere else. This is my favorite boutique on Ocean Ave. It is entirely over priced but that's partly because I can't afford the designers they sell. I visited again this weekend and was bummed to see that they had absolutely NOTHING on sale. WTF, people, aren't we in a recession? Shouldn't there be walls of items you're trying to get rid of for a good price? Apparently they don't cater to the poor folk. They have stacks and stacks and racks and racks of designer jeans and clothes which are fun to dig through. However, they are priced higher than if you were to go in to a department store. I saw a pair of jeans that they were selling for at least $50 more than the same exact pair sold at Macy's. I did find a really awesome green fedora here which I plan on rockin' soon. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town, hopefully with a little money saved. read more

Absolutely impressed and happy with the service and quality at Paloosh! My husband and I were there over this past weekend. I had gone in to the store and saw a tee shirt I wanted, but did not purchase at the time. Went back on Monday morning but they were closed and we had to leave town. I called in the afternoon and they were open, Becca answered the phone. Immediately she was super polite and helpful. I felt like she read my mind by offering to send me pics of the various tee shirt colors so I can choose the one I wanted and have it shipped. Within minutes of hanging up I had 3 texts from Becca with pics of the shirt. I responded and she called me back immediately to finish the order. Becca was so awesome and extremely helpful! She even took the time to explain that the shirts run big and so I should size down which I would have picked the wrong size had she not told me.
