I was coming on here to post a glowing review and read Donna C.'s review. It's too bad that her experience was not a good one. I have been taking my dog, Ruby, there for years and have nothing but wonderful things to say about the care, the ownership and the staff. Ruby has a ton of energy and always comes home happy and tired. I'm wondering if Donna C.'s complaints could be because her dog is older. I'm sure that he was sore because of exercise that he is not used to. The beauty of Pals for Pups is that when our dogs are boarded, they are NOT left in crates. They are playing and cuddling with a wonderful staff that really cares about them. In saying that, I can't imagine anyone there allowing her dog to be sleeping on a wet blanket! At 14, I can only imagine that the staff DID give him the extra TLC that Donna was talking about, and perhaps being a "senior," his ability to handle all day play care isn't what it used to be. I was really disappointed when my dog was refused to be considered for daycare due to his size. He is very friendly and already plays with most of the dogs there at the local dog park. They refused to meet him. Poor way to run a business. read more

Pals for Pups is wonderful. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and loves my dog. I have been taking my dog here for years. My dog is always so excited when I pull into the parking lot each morning. I feel at easy knowing that my dog is well taken care of and safe when I leave her each day. We also attended multiple sessions of obedience classes. Patti's years of experience help me train my crazy lab. I am happy to say we can go for walks now without her dragging me down the street. read more

I've gotta say this place was a HUGE disappointment. We go to another facility which is very similar, yet the owner says she won't take one of our dogs merely because of his size and age. He's about the size of a golden retriever, with a few extra pounds, kinda like the one that sits in the front lobby. But according to what I've read about the place dogs are separated by size. Not even 2 years of age, she said it would be difficult to work with him/train him because he's not a puppy. Seems like she's not a believer of "you can teach an old dog new tricks," but then again he's not an old dog. If you don't mind the drive, Wiggly Tails is a great, safe place, that doesn't discriminate against breed, age, or size. Looks like I'll be taking that extra drive. read more

Update & response to owners comments of my review; Hi patty, it looks as though you are just commenting on this 13 months after i posted the review..i do not expect that you would remember me from 13 months ago, especially since I was only there for 10 minutes before I was scared off. I do feel upset that you are saying my review isnt accurate, but then again, if i was the business owner, I could understand this probably has not helped your business much. Yelpers can also see my other 5 star reviews of businesses that i have frequented that show that I am fair and unbiased in my rating of your business . I have nothing to gain or lose by posting this review, but I do feel it's important to let others know what I saw and heard on my unannounced visit to your facility. Im sorry it wasnt to your liking, and perhaps this will give you a chance to reevaluate your protocols. Best of luck to you. I have been taking my beloved schnauzer for play ,overnite, yappy hours and vacation for three years and will continue to do so until my dog says not to. . Patti and her staff are the best the facility is new with a lot of safe play areas the newest being the green grass yard. Very clean facility grooming is good and done at a great price. I believe if something was wrong or an incident had happened they would call. I don't believe they leave premises for 2 hours without some kind of responsibility or security. Pals for Pups - Pet Sitting Near Me - Roselle, Illinois

I was looking for a new place to board my dog in the burbs for an upcoming trip and I was hoping to not have to spend hundreds of dollars to do so. I live in the city and my current doggy daycare/boarding place charges daycare fees + overnight boarding fees, which comes to roughly $90 per 24 hours. My parents live in Itasca and so I thought I would give Pals for Pups a try. The first call I made to the facility left me with a bad taste in my mouth because the owner was not friendly at all, however a good friend recommended this facility so I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. When I told Patty I was a potential new customer, she began asking all the basic questions about my dog. When she found out she was a 75lb German Shepherd - she made an "ehhhhh" sound and proceeded to tell me that German Shepherds have a particular temperament, can be aggressive, etc. (As if I don't know the stigma that comes with the breed...) She then proceeded to ask me "Why don't you just board her at the place you always go to?" -- PRETTY SURE THAT IS NOT HOW YOU SPEAK TO PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS? Regardless I told her my reason for checking out Pals for Pups - because of how much I am charged in the city and she even agreed it was outrageous. She proceeded to tell me to fill out the new registration paperwork, send over vet records, etc. I sent that info over to the email address provided on the website on 3/22 (almost 2 full weeks ago now) and never heard anything back from anyone. Quite professional. Fast forward to today. I decide to call again and speak with Patti. I proceed to have almost the exact same conversation that we had two weeks ago. She asked me AGAIN "Why don't you just take her to your normal place in the city?" I work in hospitality and I am fairly sure that is not how you're supposed to speak to patrons that are interested in your services. She calls my boarding place in the city for a reference and realizes that Dogaholics (Lincoln Park) doesn't allow toys but her facility does - therefore she doesn't think my dog would be a good fit. She didn't even give my dog a chance. My pup was not given an opportunity to go through the "temperament test" that is required. Without question, Patti told me straight up that we are not allowed there. It is absolutely ridiculous on all counts. I do have a 75lb German Shepherd but she is the sweetest and most non-aggressive dog in the world but Patti didn't even care to hear that. She said NO. So I urge ANYONE trying to board their pups or find daycare to look elsewhere. The last thing I would want for my dog (or any of my friend's or family's dogs) to end up at a discriminating place like this. read more

Pals is great. The staff really loves these dogs. When I get Daisy back from Pals she is wagging her tail and ready to take a nap. The facility is state of the art and very clean. We couldn't be happier. read more

This place has been unbelievably helpful and good to our dog for the year he was here. He could not get in the door fast enough every morning; we absolutely loved it here. I took my dog here for training. The Trainer is very rude and has really poor customer service. This is my daughters dog and I went one time in her place and she freaked out that only one person needs to command this dog. I have owned several dogs throughout the years and the ONLY reason I took him for training as he was a rescue and at the age of one, he didn't know how to walk on a leash. Everyone that is in the home should be able to handle an animal, not just one person because she says so. I was paying her. Very disappointed , I inquired about boarding my dogs and was flatly rejected without even given the opportunity meet or temperament test my dogs. This rejection was based on the age and breed of my pets. I seems they discriminate against mix breed adoption pets. The middle aged woman I assume was Patti though polite was very cold and impersonal. I'm a business man and responsible person who prides himself on the great care I provide for my K-9 companions and they basically said your not welcome here. Best take your pets to the old place you've been going to. When questioned about this decision for rejection without any cause or legitimate reason I was told : Exact quote from the manager or owner we are not dealing with widget's here ? I was looking for a place to board my sweet and gentle 4 year old Great Dane. They would not even give her a temperament test because she has never been in doggy daycare before. I was floored and speechless. They won't even meet her! She is a very social dog who has been boarded numerous times. She is truly a gentle giant. She plays with neighborhood dogs half her size. While I understand Pals for Pups is responsible for other dogs in their facility, to not even give us a chance left a very bad taste in my mouth. I recently recommended the facility to my brother-in-law after visiting this week but I have told him to go elsewhere. It would have been nice to have been given a chance.......I'm still in disbelief! read more

From the minute we walked in they had an attitude as if it was a burden to board our dog. We provided all the required information onto their documents, but when speaking with Patti the owner it became the "Spanish Inquisition". Patti showed and expressed more negatives than positives on wanting our dog to board at their facility. Very little attention was shown to our dog because Patti never left her desk until the end. It was obvious what the outcome would be - I'm sorry we can't accept your dog for boarding. For what reason I don't know. They obviously lose business with this attitude and I wouldn't recommend Pals for Pups to anyone. Oh and by the way, our dog is a small dog weighing no more than 15 lbs and is non-aggressive. I just left the place. Saw the hours on the door stating they are closed from 11-1 which is no problem. I stood there reading the hours when an employee stepped out. I said, "Hi" (that was it) and she completely ignored me and ran off. No way will I bring my dogs to a place where an employee can't even say Hi to a potential customer (my guess it was in fear of having to answer any questions). Didn't even get to go in to check out the premises as I have no desire to go back. It's very unfortunate as it looks like a nice place and is right around the corner from where I live. But first impressions are huge and my first impression from this employee is what is keeping me away. read more

Spoke with Patty on the phone. I called to inquire about their rates for dog daycare. Told her my dog is a shepherd/husky/terrier mix and is 10 months/ 70 lbs. She declined my dog for daycare due to his size and age. Claims he is a "big boy" and she did not want to risk my dog not getting along with others and possibly causing a dog injury. Claims she will only take larger breeds as puppies (which my dog being 10 months is still technically a puppy).When I had asked about the temperament test, she said it would not be enough to guarantee that my dog was safe to be around. This makes no sense to me for a few reasons. First of all, I see plenty of large dogs in posted photos of the facility. Second, she did not bother to even ask about my dog's behavior and if he has gone through training. He has completed advanced training courses and goes to dog parks often so he is well socialized and behaved. He has never shown any aggression towards anyone or anything. Third, then what is the point of having the temperament test if they are not going to use it? Based on her solely knowing my dogs breed mix, age, and size was enough for her to decline him. I figured she would atleast have us go through the temperament test to gauge his behavior but apparently not. If it truly is his size that is not granting him acceptance in this place, then they may want to consider posting weight/ age restrictions on their website so people are aware. I really hope this is not a case of breed discrimination. My dog is extremely friendly and has been well trained, but it seems his size is his downfall. read more

Great place. My dog gets so tired after a day here. Reading the other reviews I'm somewhat relieved they don't take pitfalls bc I would not allow my dog here if they did. Heard to many stories about the breed and not worth the risk for me. Probably lose more business allowing the breed then lose to be honest. The staff is very nice. read more

Both my dog and I enjoy attending Pals. He enjoys the daily "playcare" and I have a great time at the Saturday "Yappy Hours". The new facility is huge, along with being spotless. There are an abundance of staff members present. It is so much more than "babysitting". The staff continually engage the dogs. When my pup gets home, he is a happy, tired guy. Additionally, I feel so much better in leaving my dog for boarding and daycare both because of the skill and dedication of the staff (I've seen most of the same staff members for years, so they really get to know my guy), as well as the fact that you just can't come in, leave a check and drop off your dog. My dog was given a "personality test" to ensure he isn't aggressive to other dogs. I feel so much better knowing that he is not getting into scuffles with other dogs. Between the cleanliness of the facility, knowledge and care displayed by Patti and the staff, and the fact that not "anybody" can drop off a reactive dog and jeopardize my pet, I wouldn't go anyplace else. I'd give six stars if I could. read more
