    Matt A.

I wrote a review maybe 2 years ago, but for some reason, I guess I never hit "post review," because it wasn't posted. Now I get the benefit of hindsight. My job was unique because it required a lot of skill, but not much labor or materials. In a sense, high skill and low pay. Not the kind of job contractors are jumping at. The rod iron in the before pictures was not up to code. That portion of the roof was not supported (and also ugly) and needed an upgrade. The city worked with me and fortunately so did Brandon. I remember that Brandon was very busy at the time, but willing to put me on his calendar because I was willing to wait 'till whenever he had an opening. I knew from recommendations that he was a good pick for my work and I really didn't care how long I had to wait as long as I had someone I could trust. I've dealt with a lot of bad contractors and just isn't worth it. Now that it's been 2 years (maybe more) since the job has been completed I have zero regrets. He finished on time, and under budget. Neither of those things ever happens with most contractors. I was amazed. He even put a wood delivery in my side yard for me that had nothing to do with his job. He had to cut sheetrock in my garage and when he was done, the patch and clean-up really surprised me. I was expecting at least some dust or mess, but there was none. From start to finish I was impressed with the work and the attention to detail. Very happy I went against my father's suggestion and went with a pro.

After quotes from other roofing companies, combing over reviews and personal recommendations from other contractors, I decided Brandon was the person I wanted to do the work on our house. His quote was fair and comparable to others I had obtained. He is licensed and follows a professional payment schedule. His services are in demand so you may have a bit of a wait to have your project scheduled. Brandon is great at communicating and returning texts/emails/phone messages. He responded quickly to any concerns or issues I had and took care of them. Due to the work on the roof, we ended up with some ceiling cracks. Brandon came right after my call to survey the ceiling and expertly repaired the cracks the next day. Our job included: - A new roof with removal of two old roofs (a shake roof under a steel roof) -The replacement of large amounts of dry rot/termite damaged wood including siding, eaves, soffits, roof, areas around the chimney, etc. -Wiring and installation of new exterior lights, a spot light with security camera and exterior plugs under the eaves for Christmas lights and cameras -New gutters and gutter guards -Painting the house. Brandon and his crew were punctual, hard working, polite and cleaned up at the end of each day. His ability to coordinate the timing of the different crews, delivery of supplies, debris removal and supply chain issues was impeccable, on time and very much appreciated. I would not have had the time or energy to have coordinated multiple contractors. He was upfront with me about any additional expenses which were minimal and mostly a result of unexpected termite damage. Our house looks amazing now and I know it is well protected from the elements. I would highly recommend Brandon and have already given his name to several friends and neighbors. Our project actually finished earlier than expected and he made the entire process a pleasant experience. I will certainly have him back for other work in the future. A huge thank you to Brandon, Clinton, Thomas, Jose and the rest of the crew.

First off, let me just say Brandon is a great guy. Really personable and super communicative. Between our actual project and talking out possible future renovations, Brandon takes the time to explain everything and makes you feel informed and comfortable. He works clean and meticulously with attention to detail. He makes it easy to trust in him and his work, so I'd definitely recommend him to anyone looking for any size repair or renovation job. Read on for a full recap of our experience. Our Front porch post and rafter were rotten and needed replacing. On Feb. 11, I reached out to Palumbo Construction on Yelp and Brandon came out in a couple days, took a look and gave us a great quote and proposal. After comparing a couple other companies, we decided to go with Palumbo. After agreeing to move forward on Feb. 18th, we had to wait a couple weeks until an opening in March for our little project. Brandon's roofing guys, Clinton Oates and his crew arrived on time on March 4th to tackle the rafter and flashing. Super nice guys, very respectful of our house. About an hour into the job, the outlet in the garage they were using for their power tools and 2 other outlets in the kitchen (including the one for the fridge!) suddenly had no electricity. We tried flipping the breakers but nada, so the guys called Brandon and he came over in 20 mins to try and fix the issue. He ended up having to do some detective work and trace back through 4 outlets to find the culprit and make a repair. With power back to all the outlets, he promised to return the next day and replace all 4 outlets free of charge before starting on the post replacement. Brandon returned around 10am and did as he said - replaced all the outlets and the garbage disposal switch to new units. It's a small gesture, but says a lot about his accountability and the kind of business he runs. He then proceeded to the main task replacing the rotten post and better securing the bottom of both posts to the brick of the porch then covering with a more decorative base. He then painted both posts and rafter as well as renewing our house numbers with a quick coat of black so we could save on having to buy new ones. All in all he wrapped up by 3pm and we couldn't be happier with the quality of work, communication and value that Palumbo construction delivered.

    Redwood deck/stairs
    Lesley O.

I hired Palumbo Construction to complete extensive foundation work, remove and replace siding/dry rot on a large exterior wall, install a new patio slider, construct redwood deck/stairs, and a complete kitchen remodel including new electrical and hood venting. The work was streamlined; beginning with a free estimate, followed by a complete breakdown of the work within hours to my email, and a confirmed appointment to start within the next week. The work began on December 11, 2017. Brandon was always on time, and in most cases early. He worked long hard hours and went above and beyond his original scope of work. He was readily available to talk about changes in costs and progress. He has great attention to detail while also being efficient. I started 2018 with all of my projects completed, and my house put back together. Amazing! I am blown away by the level of professionalism I encountered. My search for a contractor who can do it all has ended. Thank you Palumbo Construction, I look forward to working with you again on future home improvement projects!

Brandon helped us build the laundry in MV with obtaining the permit successfully. He is such a good communicator, who always understands our needs and makes things easy. He pays attention to his job and solves any problems quickly . We are very happy with his work and would recommend him for any future home improvements.

I needed some dry rot repairs for my house before I get it painted. I went through yelp and decided to go with Brandon (Palumbo Construction) after getting other quotes. His quote was very reasonable. Brandon was very professional, thorough and was a pleasure to work with. He suggested several options for me to consider on my dry rot repairs. He answered all my questions and was very patient. He kept me informed about issues (hidden hornets nest) and took photos of their progress while I was at work. He and his brother was able to get the repairs done as promised. They cleaned up and removed all the debris after they finished the job. I was fortunate that Brandon was also able to come back when my painter found several areas with dry rot and termite damage. While the new stuff wasn't minor, Brandon and his crew was able to get it done so my painter can continue. I am very satisfied with the results and the paint job came out great! I can't thank him enough of the job well done. I highly recommend Brandon to friends and family... and neighbors! I am already considering him for my next projects! Thanks again Brandon. I'm sure I'll see you soon!

The crew was respectful of our home, kept the job site clean, and stayed on schedule as much as possible. Any questions or small adjustments were handled quickly and professionally. All prior interior work in our house had been done by handyman. I really appreciated the communication from our project manager Marc. He created a WhatsApp chat with me and the incredible designer Jocelyn. They were both consistently responsive to any of my questions or concerns -- and opened my mind to design options. Jocelyn spent time in our home, drafted plans, took me shopping, and sourced all the fixtures. From her spreadsheet I was able to find less expensive options for some items. I appreciated the input and control I had on these expenses. Since we needed to move out, I had a tight timeline for the project -- mid October until Thanksgiving. Marc and the team did their best despite City of San Jose delays with inspections. We were able to move back in before the final inspection. Every member of the team was kind and courteous. Marc also did a great job working with the window vendor that specializes in older homes. I'm rating the experience a 4.5 out of 5 for two reasons. I was disappointed that the medicine cabinet, switch plates, and hooks were initially installed unevenly (it was corrected). I expected more attention to detail. And I was disappointed in the wear & tear that happened on my wood floors as well as the overall dust in my dining room. I was warned that things would get dusty -- but didn't understand the extent and would have packed away more things. WISE offers lots of support with design -- they could also offer as part of their package a full cleaning! I offer this feedback to help others calibrate their expectations. Overall it was a positive experience. I waited several months to post this review until I returned from travel and could see how things were settling after regular use. I'm loving the new bathroom and recommend WISE.

Our project manager was Erick. He explained options clearly and helped us think through tradeoffs. I appreciated his suggestions throughout the project, including the decision to replace the windows. That change was not something we had planned, but it made a real difference in the finished space. The crew was well staffed and productive. When they were on site, progress was steady and visible. The team also handled uncertainty well. At the start, it was not clear how the kitchen exhaust hood would be vented. They worked through the constraints and found a solution that significantly improved airflow and met code. If we raised a concern or felt something missed the mark, it was addressed quickly. Change orders felt fair and were discussed before work moved forward. The project passed San Francisco city inspection on the first visit, which gave us confidence in the quality of the work. Overall, Atlas General Construction delivered a solid kitchen renovation and provided the kind of guidance we needed as first-time remodel clients.

They completed the entire project in just 6 weeks (a very tight timeline) and came in at nearly half the cost of the 4 other GCs we quoted. I highly recommend Atlas and their dedicated team for all commercial TI projects.

Overall the experience was very good; Elijah and Bryan were super friendly and responsive. Eli was very patient and accommodating as we discussed several different potential change orders, from new windows to painting, to other misc. things that popped up. Bryan Luna was especially a pleasure to work with. His attention to detail and proactivity to solve any little thing I mentioned was definitely the highlight of working with Prime. Their contracted electrician, Hector, was great as well. I also think they did a great job building out a cabinet to fit our freezer next to the matching fridge. Their master carpenter managed to salvage our existing wood to make it match perfectly. Definitely better than what I'd expect from even a carpentry specialty contractor. I will mention that it wasn't without some snags. Prime deals in volume so they're very busy. I think because I had delays in sourcing a freezer I ended up not getting a dedicated project manager for some time. We had timeline issues made worse with holidays. This caused cascading delays which inevitably pushed back my move in date a few weeks. When I finally did get a new project manager, they ghosted me (later on I found out they had a family emergency). Eli had to step in again to help. Another thing is that their pricing is quite opaque. The estimate will break down prices by milestones, but they repeated told me that it's not a valuation of the milestone itself. This made it nigh impossible to understand if I wanted to contract out specific pieces of the project (e.g. flooring). Design was OK. I felt that the designer was very busy. Sometimes very responsive (5min replies), sometimes not responsive at all (no reply). I wish I had a better, more thorough back-and-forth session about the intricacies of the design. But we made do. Ultimately, the designer made a render and helped point us to some vendors, but from there we had to make our own selection alone (cabinets, handles, pendant lights, faucets, etc.). I did appreciate her presence when we picked out countertops, though. All in all, I think this was a 4.5 star job, but I'm rounding to 5 because of Eli and Bryan :)

The scope included a complete renovation of the kitchen, master bathroom, family room wet bar, and powder room, along with extensive upgrades to electrical systems, plumbing fixtures, flooring, drywall, and interior painting throughout a two-story home. Project Scope & Timeline The project spanned approximately nine months, from Q3 2025 through Q1 2026. This included: * 2.5 months for contractor selection and contract negotiation * 2 months for permit application * 3 months for construction and implementation * 1.5 months for finalizing the paperwork and permit status Jay and his team handled the permit application process and completed the construction phase on schedule and within budget. Notably, change orders were kept under 5% of the total contract value, which is commendable given the project's complexity. Overall Assessment Jay Construction delivered solid results in terms of execution, cost control, and quality. While there were some challenges--particularly around communication and project management--issues were generally resolved in a collaborative and reasonable manner. Based on our experience, we assign an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars. One important consideration for future clients: Jay manages multiple projects simultaneously and may not always be readily available. Homeowners who are willing to stay actively involved--especially in communication and coordination--will likely have a smoother experience. ======================================= Detailed Breakdown by Work Category 1. Electrical Work (9/10, weight 20) Handled by a licensed team (Caesar & his team, Alpha Valley Electric), the electrical work was efficient and well-coordinated. Rough and finish phases were completed in a day each, with additional visits for inspection fixes. High marks for responsiveness and execution. 2. Plumbing Work (8/10, weight 20) The plumbing contractor (Mark) demonstrated strong attention to detail. While this area generated the most change orders due to unforeseen issues with existing piping, problems (including two leaks) were addressed promptly and professionally. 3. Carpentry (9/10, weight 20) * Kitchen Cabinetry & Ventilation (9/10, weight 15): Kornei & team, high-quality installation with complex ventilation work executed to code. * Wet Bar Cabinetry (9/10, weight 5): Viktor, excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. 4. Countertop Installation (8/10, weight 10) Mario & his team of three. Quartz countertops were installed cleanly across multiple areas, with good overall results. 5. Master Bathroom Renovation (9/10, weight 10) Viktor. This portion stood out for its quality. Waterproofing, Wall & Floor tile work, and fixture installation were all completed to a high standard. 6. Flooring (9/10, weight 20) Navruz Flooring, team of 3. Luxury vinyl plank flooring and Baseboards were installed throughout the home, including stairs. The results were consistent and professionally finished. 7. Drywall & Painting (Mixed Results, weight 20) * Initial Work (6/10, weight 10): Ali & team. Drywall texture quality was below expectations, though painting was acceptable. * Redo Work (9/10, weight 5): Smart Painting. After concerns were raised, Jay allowed us to bring in an alternative team (paid with contract dollars), which significantly improved the outcome. * Final Touch-Ups (9/10, weight 5): VitaIy and Viktor. Excellent work. 8. Demolition & Debris Removal (8/10, weight 10) Dimitri (Kitchen, Mater Bath), Vladimir & his team (Rest of the project including all carpet, hardwood floor removal). Efficient and thorough across all phases of the project. 9. Permits & Inspections (7/10, weight 10) While Jay managed the process, we found it necessary to stay actively involved to resolve delays and clarify requirements with the building department. All inspections were ultimately passed, including final approval after two rounds. 10. Project Management & Communication (6/10, weight 20) This was the weakest area. Jay's limited availability meant we took on a more hands-on role--coordinating finished products and rough materials with subcontractors, and helping manage dependencies. That said, Jay was consistently fair and solution-oriented when issues arose, and worked with subcontractors to resolve dependencies. Final Verdict Jay Construction Company is a capable contractor that delivers good quality work at a reasonable cost and timeline. Their subcontractors are generally skilled and reliable, and the company demonstrates flexibility when addressing problems. However, the experience benefits significantly from active homeowner involvement, particularly in communication and day-to-day coordination. If you are prepared to take on that role, Jay Construction can be a strong partner for a comprehensive home renovation project.
