Ate here on Father's Day and made a reservation that morning for noon brunch on the patio. Wonderful outdoor space and really tasty food!

Really good dish choices and ingredients with fine execution, service and atmosphere. I have a hard time faulting this place 'even' compared to Toronto (I don't think the location matters, Pan Chancho would be exemplary in a big city.) in fact the fresh-scrubbed character of pretty downtown Kingston may just add to the special charm of this place. I've had the brunch French Toast a few times and brought friends and they liked everything we tried. You'll want a reservation unless you're there quite early. A good reason to come downtown and skip the chain restaurants like Eggsquiz or Denny's. Really not more expensive I don't think. read more

Great location and restaurant and bakery have a comfortable atmosphere. However, ordered eggs benedict with a little bit of extra hollandaise on the side. Hard yolks in the eggs benedict, the hollandaise was bland and the extra shooter size of hollandaise cost $3 which was not disclosed when I requested it. Grabbed a loaf of bread leaving and was stunned that it was over $6. It was good, though not sure if it's $6/loaf good. Overall, pricing did not match the quality I got today. read more

It's a nice little hole in the wall. The food is something worth talk if about; we had breakfast and everything was fresh and delicious. The bakery is lovely as well, we purchased eclairs and danishs and they were breath taking. read more

Great stuff. Food is amazing. A West End location would definitely increase my visits as with parking downtown. Restaurants down there are usually saved for reservation type dinners and not slip out on a whim for a meal type place. Unfortunately downtown doesn't really allow for that. That being said the atmosphere is wonderful, surrounded by their beautiful foods. Oh and they should deliver fresh bread to homes like in the old days! I'd sign up for sure. BYE BYE any other bread!! I just love this place. It's a landmark of Kingston. It's location and setting make it just perfect for any meal year round. it's a pity though that the menu has been less colorful lately. Excellent bread, love the cookies and the buns. The various desserts are, for the most part, delicious. Some are very sweet and rich (esecially those in the display case!) so often times my husband and I will buy one to split. The only thing I haven't been fussy on was the brioche. The bread is always good and we have two favourite breads in our house: the olive bread and the amazing potato, cheese and leek bread. We come here all the time and recommend you do, too! read more

Yum! This was a great place to eat in Kingston! I was visiting for the weekend; since Kingston is such a small town, it was easy to come across Pan Chancho on Yelp. I got the Canadian breakfast which was a pea meal bacon sandwich with potatoes and this jam/bbq like sauce you dipped your sandwich or potatoes into. The sandwich was really good! It was quite juicy and the bread was so fresh. The bread that they use is also baked fresh at their bakery! The potatoes were not home fries; they were roast potatoes. They weren't too special, but the sweet sauce that was also on the plate was really something! It was sweet but really meshed well with the other savoury items on the menu. I got a cookie and savoury brioche for the road. The chocolate chip cookie was alright. Homemade, but was not anything special. The savoury brioche on the other hand was quite delicious. It wasn't too oily and strong. The flavour was really good and it was so soft inside. I will definitely come here for brunch again or try Sunday brunch at Chez Piggy which is another restaurant by the people who run Pan Chancho! read more

I often find myself waiting a ridiculous amount of time to be both acknowledged and served by staff. The staff working the cash have never once been pleasant. It wouldn't kill you to smile. The prices are quite high and it's upsetting that customers aren't provided with an ingredients list for the majority of the to-go dishes. Serious improvements needed throughout. read more

When they say "fresh" they mean it! The grapefruit juice was delicious and the aged cheddar on my "weekender croissant sandwich" was even better. When I walked in it looked more like a market with fresh pastries, bread, a small deli and a huge cheese selection. When you head to the back, it's like it's a different place with formal seating in the cafe. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the service was very speedy. I highly recommend and will definitely be back when I'm in Kingston in the future. read more

Stopped in today while on the way back to Toronto. Lovely, as always. Had the salmon burger special. Very good. Tried the kids' grilled cheese. One of the best I've had... and the side of fries were fantastic. Service was top notch; smiles all around and prompt delivery of food to the table. Took Dragon Noodles to go... served cold, they have just the right amount of spicy asian taste. No stop in Kingston is complete without dropping in to Pan Chacho. read more

We ate breakfast here twice. The first morning was lovely (we are gluten free and the gluten free scone was excellent. And the waiter helped us adjust other items to work for us). I went here for the first time yesterday. Although it was -17 and snowing, I felt like the sunshine was kissing my cheeks as soon as I walked in. I can't believe I've lived in Kingston my whole life and I've never gone in here! The atmosphere reminds me of the little shops, bakeries and cafes I visited while in Europe. We had to wait for a table for ~25 minutes, but I didn't mind because there was so much to look at while waiting. The service was great, the food was amazing -I had The Weekender. The price was a little bit high for brunch, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time here so I can't complain. The whole time I was in I felt warm and fuzzy. They had cute little accents everywhere, one of my favourites were the floral cloth napkins they used for the cutlery rolls. I want to return in the summertime in a pretty sundress and a floppy hat and sit out on their patio. I will be returning time and time again before that, too! The perfect spot for Sunday brunch. 10/10. read more

Recommended by tour guide at Queen's. Truly a gourmet experience in a casual environment. The price is right too. Fantastic bakery, especially the desserts. We had a lamb pita with chickpeas, butternut squash pastry, and lamb samosas. All were excellent. Then we had two desserts with coffee, and bought some rolls to go. While Pan Chancho is known to serve some of the best prepared food in downtown Kingston, their customer service does not nearly match the high esteem. I work in downtown Kingston at a nearby store and sometimes go to Pan Chancho for lunch because I happen to have a large number of food allergies and their food is usually quite clean and made with quality ingredients. I do not particularly LIKE going to Pan Chancho as I'm usually met with horrible manners from most of their staff, and often feel rushed and/or stupid when I ask innocent questions about what's in the food. Today was a particularly bad trip to Pan Chancho when I spent $24 (!!!) on three prepared foods for lunch/snacks. When I opened up the container to eat my lunch I saw that I was given such measly servings of the sides. Seriously, I asked for the braised fennel as a side, and got one single wedge of the fennel. As I was eating the baked chicken leg and got closer to the bone I realized I was cutting into RAW FLESH...like not just a little raw and pink...but fleshy. All my coworkers were seriously concerned. So I called the bakery and they said to bring it back and they would replace it; whoever answered the phone was nice enough. Then when I came back, I was given no apology whatsoever and the girl who replaced the chicken almost made me feel bad about returning it when I had made NO scene in the store. She then handed me a new breast in saran wrap, no bag or container. I asked for the plastic bag I brought the raw leg in back because I'd rather not walk down the street holding a chicken leg in my hand. She handed it to me and walked away. I could not expect worse customer service from probably the most expensive bakery I've ever been to (and that's saying a lot considering I'm from Toronto). I really don't think it's worth going to Pan Chancho since I always leave with a bad taste in my mouth. Tourists: there are a lot more enjoyable places to visit and eat in Kingston than this one, trust me. read more
