No complaints. Parking was fine...not the best but ok. The store is packed but the bread and treats were fresh and delicious. I placed an order for a 1/4 simply vanilla square cake for a first communion and paid $62 on Monday May 19, my mom went in today after I recommended ordering her there as well and when she went in today to check in on her order the owner was extremely rude and was yelling at her employee prior to even helping the customer who just walked in. After providing all the information asked for while ordering the cakes, the owner claimed that both of our orders had not been placed or paid for when we both had proof of the charge, but magically found both orders once we showed the bank transaction. I will not be returning to this business and the owner needs to learn how to treat her customers and employees. Very disappointed. This tiny panadería along Broadway in an older building has been operating for TWENTY YEARS. If that's not a testament to the quality of their service and products, I present to you my own testament: Upon first entering (right before closing), we were greeting and immediately told about some of the products. My husband asked about a large tray wrapped with Saran Wrap and was told that you can order trays of pan dulce for pick up. I believe many businesses in the area get their pan dulce here. There are cold cases with puddings and cakes and the typical cabinets of freshly baked pan dulce. In one, I noticed a Salvadoran quesadilla (you really must try a slice if you've never had it before--sweet, dense, amazing mouthfeel). Next to that were an army of little puerquitos. We opted for a few conchas, a cookie, and a sugar-dusted cinnamon bread. As my husband noted, this bakery is so old school that they give away the traditional bakery calendar each new year, denoting the days of saints and important dates in Catholicism. We got home and tried a pastry each. Heavenly! The cinnamon bread had a perfect dusting of sugar and was fluffy and sweet. We'll be back to try the tres leches cake and the puerquitos. Give them a try and support a local business that I hope has continued success for another 20 years! read more

If you've been to a Mexican bakery before, this is pretty similar to all the other ones. It has 2 tables and a few other places to sit if you order in. They offer Tortas, Burritos, small Tacos and large Tacos all with at least 6 different choices of meat for each. The tortas are $4.99 and the burritos are $4.50. They also have your standard fare of Mexican bakery goods. The woman who was working spoke little, if any, English so be prepared for difficult communication! Not a knock on it since its a common occurrence when it comes to hole-in-the-wall establishments. Your food is definitely made fresh and worth every penny. My wife got a Chicken burrito and I ordered an Al Pastor torta. We also got 4 different pastries and 1 can of soda. It all came out to around $14. Tamales are huge and prices are excellent. They have about 6 different kind of tamales. The masa is a little bland but it is very moist. They were out of pork which is my favorite, but the chicken was tasty and not dry. I also had the torta which was large and in charge with tons of toppings so good. Pastries of all kinds are my heart's delight, bordering on obsession, and I first must apologize deeply to all of you to whom pan dulce is a familiar comfort for the ungenerous flings I have made on occasion on the subject of Mexican baking. I based my judgment on the few dusty, crumbly conchas whose pastel shades nevertheless caught my eye in the plastic bins of ethnic groceries from here to California. Thanks to the wonderful Panaderia La Gloria, I now know this was like dismissing croissants in general based on a few week-old specimens from the Albertsons bakery -- rank foolishness for which I'm deeply sorry. Apologies to the cognoscenti, and for the benefit of all of you who've never had fresh pan dulce I will say that, as with croissants, freshness is everything -- the rich, none-too-sweet doughs are at their best for half a day at most and transportation is not kind to the fragile decorations of many of these fine pastries. I stumbled in there as a newcomer last week, not knowing the name for anything but the ubiquitous concha and empanada, and am immensely grateful to the proprietress for the brief lesson and for patiently enduring my intolerable attempts at pronunciation. From the perspective of European baking from which pan dulce traces its descent, the conchas and all their variants at PLG share a rich, eggy dough that bears comparison with the finest brioche I've ever tasted. The laminated-dough items, the pineapple-filled Taco and something like a cream horn for example, strangely remind me of the kind of robust puff pastry used to enclose barbecued pork at dim sum -- perhaps lard is the common element, unctuous and flaky. I had a beautiful little cheesecake with a dark, caramelized swirly top that would have graced the finest china plate, and a gloriously light and springy coconut sponge jelly roll called a niño envuelto -- wrapped-up baby. The pastry crust of the empanada was amazingly soft and tender (though the strawberry filling was a little rubbery) and the rich shortbread on the bottom of the sevillano blended seamlessly with what amounted to a hidden icing beneath all the powdered sugar that clung charmingly to the backs of my incisors The dry and crumbly cinnamon-and-chocolate-tinged elote (which looks like an ear of corn) virtually demanded a cup of strong coffee to dunk it in, whereupon it left all thoughts of biscotti and other dunkers far behind. I emerged full of envy for those of you who grew up on this bounty and stunned by the find and the incredible variety -- it features all the labor and decorative efforts of the finest French bakery at, not to put too fine a point on it, the price of a doughnut. I advise all fellow devotees of the pâtisserie to take up the plastic tray and tongs, open the glass-fronted cabinet to your right (not neglecting the pastries in the case to your left) and graze in a pasture that is wonderfully green. read more
