Wow, what a god send of a bakery! A complete GF bakery?!?! Yayyyy!! I am so excited when I found out they make vegan, dairy free pastries. Double checked...Dairy free means no milk, cream, yogurt, butter etc. so I look for labels that says DV, V. Everything is automatically certified gluten free and there is no worry on cross contamination. They don't use run of the mill commercial grade high gluten flour the website tells all. There's also paleo, keto options. As someone who hasn't been eating butter based pastries due to doctor's orders, this bakery is like finding gold. Our favorite after 2 visits are their vegan dairy free sea salt chocolate chunk cookie, their classic GF big chocolate chip cookie, vegan dairy free banana macadamia nut muffin, and my absolute favorite is their dairy free vegan sweet strawberry scone (with rhubarb, flax and coconut). I typically find scones to be bland and dry. Not these! I enjoyed these so much they were so moist and delicious but what I love most is the chewy bits on the edge. My hubby is a chocolate fiend but he usually get sluggish and sick to his stomach after inhaling a large chocolate pastry from other bakery. He ate their large size classic chocolate chip cookie and it didn't bother him. Tasted amazing too! Their sourdough is one of a kind. It's piping hot and available on a daily basis while supplies last. Nobody offers gluten free artisan sourdough fresh out of the oven on a walk in basis. It stayed hot for hours after I brought it home because it was such a dense dough. When I think about how much more time and work went into these special loaves (not mass produced) and loaded with nutrition, the $23.50 is worth it! The sourdough is super moist if you don't toast it there's almost a slight tacky feel to it. Once toasted, it is the best artisan toast eating experience. This am, I enjoyed an open faced peanut butter and blackberry jam toast. Appreciate also they provide on the package specific care instructions for the best experience. For the price, I made sure we wash our hands and did all the suggested prep needed. My only critique would be transparency on pricing in store and on website. It was mildly shocking when the register total was in the $80 range after 2 sourdough loaves and 6 pastries before tip. After eating it, we realized it's actually worth every penny. Good at a different level. Maybe if they have a daily special would be nice to bring in more people? Well, we will come back regardless! Love this new bakery find!! read more

I liked this place. It would be on my list of places to walk into when I am in the area. A variety of baked goods, drinks, offerings. Upon entering, i immediately noticed baked goods display and the drink menu. The case was filled with a bunch of interesting types of baked goods. On top of the rose cardamom latte, brioche tart and cardamom twist. We also got a savory scone and another item that escapes me. I enjoyed the savory scone the most. It had chives and bacon amongst other things. Great texture and not too dry. The brioche tart was a meal all on its own. Heavy and will put you to sleep. The cheese I think that was in there was gruyere but I could be wrong. I enjoyed it but definitely will splooge out if you down eat it on a plate with utensils. Eventually it does get monotonous for me. Recommend sharing it. Cardamom twist was the least favorite item. I'm not sure what it was but there was an essence of something in the background that threw the flavor off for me. I can't seem to describe it. The twist was slightly doughy/stodgy for me. Maybe part of an off batch. I typically do like cardamom centered things. This wasn't my favorite is all I can say. One suggestion I would hope gets implemented is cost of goods displayed for each item. I can say I was surprised at the total during check out. I do go to a lot of bakeries, cafes and artisanal shops. I always felt more at ease knowing what I was getting into from a financial standpoint. Tip is to look at their discounted items. They are a steal. They also have a rewards program that gets you a drink with every new sign up paired with a purchase I wish I had known prior to purchase as I was only able to spot signage at the register. read more

My husband and I were very disappointed. Yesterday we went to Grain Artisan so that I could have a piece of cake on my birthday. There were 2 cakes to choose from and that was pretty much it. Everything else had been sold out. I know, that is the idea, right? But, the cake had a ton of very sweet, thick frosting and not much cake and even less of the fig filling and custard I was so looking forward to. The cake was also tough/chewy, both on the bottom and the top, just under the frosting. I'm not even sure how that happens. The coffee did not disappoint. So, it wasn't a total bust. But, I will be must left confident in the future to pay $9+ dollars for a piece of cake. I was SO certain it was going to be wonderful. Their website really set my expectations high. Wow, this bakery is a hidden gem. Everything is celiac friendly! You will find amazing baked treats like scones, muffins, croissants, and danishes, but also cakes, cupcakes, and other desserts. They often have seasonal drink specials. Then there is the bread. Hands down, one of the best loaves of gluten free bread I have ever had. My friend couldn't even tell!! Such a treat! I don't have any dietary restrictions and still think their treats are so good. The bakery is adorable with cute seating areas and the even plant propagations for sale. Their baked good selections change daily but they always have both sweet and savory selections as well as cakes. We got their cookies and cream brownie, bacon scone, and vanilla berry cake. They were all delicious and I would happily get them again. We also got an oat milk cardamom rose latte and it was so good! Not sweet and had a good mix of cardamom and rose. They currently offer local roasters: Velton's Coffee & Makeworth Coffee as well as Moxie Coffee (my favorite) out of Phoenix. If I'm wanting an espresso--this is where I'm going. I rarely make it up to Snohomish, but now I have a reason to. This little cafe is mostly known for their gluten-free baked goods, but their coffee is really something special. I tried their "Wild" coffee, and it has notes of watermelon that you can actually taste. I'd drive out of my way just for this coffee, it's that good. The staff are also great. My order got a little mixed up (switched the espresso types and put in to go cups), but the staff were super kind and righted it as soon as they realized. I only tried their cardamom ginger molasses cookie sandwich (delicious and not too sweet), but I'll absolutely be back to try some of their other gluten-free goodies! read more

Gotta say I was a bit disappointed about my last visit :( I liked this place because it is a quiet place with a couple of tables outside. Tables inside are also cute (esthetically speaking :)). Anyway, we came here to get my bag of coffee. There's a new option (flavour) of it so I wanted to try it as it is $45, and a whole lot of coffee! I told them that and guess what? They charged me for a small cup of it ($6) which is not even brewed. Is just adding a spoon to milk. I was like fine. We wanted to try it against yhe regular. I was just waiting for another $6 bucks charge, but no! The regular is more expensive: $6.50! At this point I just think they just charge whatever they want. BTW, cakes are $150. Tasty, but very pricey. We paid above of $100 at the end for coffee. read more

I stumbled upon this place while exploring Snohomish and it was a nice surprise. It's a small shop but with a lot of different baked goods. They had croissant, scones, galletes, cookies cakes and bread. They were also selling day old items for discounted price. The person helping me was also very nice. He was able to recommend a couple of their popular items. I ended up getting: A regular croissant - this was pretty dense but was surprisingly good and still has the flake. However, after a day, it got super rich so I couldn't eat more than a few bites. It's not that big to begin with Galette - this was heavy but with the $9 price tag, it makes sense. The flavor was on point and it was pretty crunchy. It's probably really good warmed up in the air fryer or something Bacon scone --- I think it should be called a biscuit because it looks like a biscuit and it taste like a biscuit :) but it was a pretty good baked goods. As a gluten free person, this is the greatest place ever. I have loved everything I have ever had from here. Cinnamon rolls, cakes, cookies, etc. have all been amazing. I recently had a croissant from here and it was probably the best croissant I had ever had, including the non-gluten free ones I have had in the past. What a great place. My celiac coworker was raving about their gluten-free sourdough bread and I decided to drive over from Shoreline to check it out. The bread is indeed delicious (they had samples that day) and I stayed to have one of their baked goods. I was on a budget so I got the rhubarb custard tart, day old for half off. Oh, my goodness. It was wonderful, perfect pastry and a good-sized slice. Best of all was learning they had amazing coffee to go with it. They made me the best decaf latte I've ever had - maybe the only good one, ha ha. Velton's is what they serve - a local roasting company. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the location is charming, with a nice view from the window seating. I will be back every chance I get. read more

One turned around and looked at me like I was interrupting. No greeting, no asking what she could grab me. Just put on her gloves and stared at me weird like it was my job to do the greeting. As I ordered stuff ($60 worth) the whole experience was off. I was grabbing a bunch of items to serve at a party. They just carelessly threw everything in individual bags instead of asking me if I wanted them in boxes. (How tacky for me to present a bunch of expensive pastries in a bunch of single bags and a grocery bag to complete the look...) I won't be back. Love this place, it's a gluten free haven! Their cakes are amazing, you wouldn't even know they're gluten free. Their savory scones are great for breakfast and the sweet scones aren't overwhelmingly sweet, which I like. Their loaves of sourdough bread are fantastic and do not have oil as an ingredient. They make good sized frozen pot-pies to take home and bake too. I believe they have now gotten their onsite bakery certified gluten free. The apple galette is a personal favorite. They had these pot pies for sale that could feed one large person or two small people for 35 bucks which I thought was insanely expensive for a pot pie.. Pretty good! The magenta color of the raspberry chocolate cake is mesmerizing. I think I've seen their stand at the farmers market before because I remember the beautiful cake colors. They go heavy on the frosting like I think all cakes should be frosted and it was really good. The bread is fluffy, had good chocolate flavor but it's a bit on the basic side. Incredibly satisfied with my cake ordering experience. The process was very easy and turned out better than I could have imagined. I filled out paperwork for a customized cake and provided desired flavor, color, and design for the cake. The cake was gluten free but I would never have known a difference. It was extremely tasty. The best gluten free dessert I have ever had, and one of the best cakes I have ever tasted. Their response was quick and extremely helpful. They recommended cake flavors that could pair well together (mint buttercream with dark cacao) along with designs based off my suggestions. Super easy, would definitely recommend. They added some really nice touches to the cake I could never have thought of. I am not very creative, so I am thankful to have had them really help with the design of the cake. I scoured Skagit and Whatcom County for a bakery that could make both a DF and a GF cake. Finally, I found one! Except, it is in Snohomish County, but whatever, this is going to be great! A bakery in Whatcom graciously pointed me in the right direction, so I thought. May 13th, 3-layer 8" GF, DF, egg-free, sunflower-inspired cake submitted to this bakery. May 15th reply, "We can do this by your date, June 5th !, but if you want something other than a yellow cake, send a picture!" May 15th, picture sent, followed by a call to the 'shop' to see if it was received. I had to follow up on the 18th with an email. May 19th text sent to "text capable" number (replied on the 21st). May 19th, their email reply after a second phone call to the 'shop,' "submitted to the design team to confirm the right decorator and will get back to you ASAP once they reply." May 23rd.................... still waiting for the reply. It's hard to believe that after 8 business days, this place still hasn't confirmed whether they can do this. By the way, I understand this is the busy season, that's why I sent my request early. Apparently, my business is not wanted, and, to be honest, as much as I wanted to have a special cake made for my wife's 48th birthday, she probably prefers not to spend 200+ dollars on one. So, the saying goes, "if you want something done right, do it yourself. It's unfortunate that my first experience with this bakery is my last. I'm done with the "sorry, for the late reply, and our coordinator doesn't work that often, so it can take a while for a reply." Whatever happened to accountability, or did we just fall short? I am ecstatic to share that Grain Artisan Bakery is my top spot to visit for delicious dairy free, gluten free pastries and sourdough bread.
