"Orejas", the best pan dulce ever!
    Carlos E.

Easy to miss this excellent Mexican bakery but worth looking for it. Freshly baked everyday, reasonably priced, with a full variety of favorites, including orejas, which is the best pan dulce ever!

6/26/22 Very clean inside. Make sure to ask for the tray and tongs.

Being from Los Angeles, I'm surrounded with an abundance of authentic Panaderias. Had my craving of Pan Dulce, and I found this place by accident. It did not disappoint. Very clean inside, friendly staff and they do accept Apple Pay.

Delicious pan dulce. It's fresh and not dry. However, the customer service is non existent. The lady at the counter was unfriendly.

Hurray for him. So sad for us. The building has been sold, new tenants are coming in soon. The bakery originally opened in 1978 right on Main Street in downtown Woodland. The retro cool sign is iconic. It's a genuine bakery that makes cakes, cookies, pastries, doughnuts, cupcakes, and a bunch inch more items. Classic Americana. They are known for their cakes. Wedding day picture perfect cakes that are perfect for any occasions... birthdays, anniversaries, weddings... are in my case I just bought them "because". I am particular fond of their champagne cake. Mmm. Besides having a talent for making a darn tasty cake, they had a talent for decorating them as well. That's a talent. For each holiday, they would go all out offering decorated baked goods. I luved everything they made. I use to live nearby and would make regular trips out there "just because"...to buy cookies, a slice or two of the champagne cake, whatever caught my fancy at the time. The pricing was always fair.

They have the perfect amount of chew to them, and they're even better if you warm them up in the microwave for a few seconds. You can pre-order, or walk-in and order cookies . My personal favorite cookies are the S'mores cookie and the peanut butter chocolate chip. But you really can't go wrong with any of these cookies. They even have vegan cookies which is lovely! We bring a box of these cookies to every family function and every friend's party that we are invited to, and they are a hit with everyone. The owners are so friendly and hand bake these cookies every day, it's amazing. There are a few tables inside if you want to eat a cookie there while enjoying a nice coffee drink. We stumble upon this coffee shop which had two entrances--one off of Main St and the other...I'm not sure. It was a one man show and the shop only had one regular table inside and some high chair and tableIs against the wall--perfect for studying. Our drinks came out fast! I tried the iced caramel latte with oat milk and it wasn't too sweet or bitter at all and kept me awake! I kinda like what my bf ordered because it had lavender (chai tea lavender latte) and the snickerdoodle cookie was so good because it wasn't too sweet! The double chocolate crackle was def too sweet for me but I gave it to my nieces and they seem to enjoy it more! We were in and out and something I thought was cool is their spaghetti straw!!

I would stop by every Friday morning before high school. This place is filled with memories and EXCELLENT donuts. They offer the typical yeasted and cake donuts. I love their maple bar and glazed and sugar donuts. Their old fashioneds are great. And I loveeeee their bear claw. My very favorite is a bag of donut holes, they're irresistible! It's a family run business and they treat everyone like family. They have seating inside but they also have a lot of regulars who take up most of the seating, so I usually get my donuts to go, but you definitely can find a spot if you want to stay! It's your typical donut shop, casual, with good vibes. I'm not the biggest fan of the parking lot. But Donut Star (and Baskin Robbins which is in the same little complex) are worth the parking headache. Sometimes you get lucky and the lot is pretty empty, other times it's pretty full. But you can also park in a neighboring lot like the parking at Carl's junior and just walk over. I hope Donut Star stays around for even more generations to enjoy!

Next time I might try the cream filled, jelly, cake, or donut holes! Happy to support local small AAPI businesses, while satisfying sweet tooths (sweet teeth?) at the same time.

The bakery itself is absolutely adorable, and I love that they have a shaded patio where you can relax. They even had the FIFA World Cup playing while I was there, which made the atmosphere even better. I ordered the chocolate croissant and a kouign-amann, and both were incredible. You can really tell everything is made fresh daily. The chocolate croissant had the perfect balance of being light and airy while still having that slightly doughy texture that I love. It wasn't overly flaky--it was the perfect in-between. The staff was so kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. I'll definitely be back to try more of their pastries!
