    Inside the apple turnover
    Lil B.

I need to become a regular so I know how to get allllll the choices. Today I came in too late TBH. Kind of around 1-2pm on a weekday. Amazingly there was something good options to choose from. Got the apple turnover - AMAZING! The flakiness was perfection and super buttery. The apple sauce inside wasn't cavity inducing sweet and balanced perfectly with the crusty turnover.

This place is legit of quality, ambience, welcoming and lively! Love the bistro atmosphere. Lauren (Owner) and Matteo (Chef) really connected with the people sharing the story behind the establishment (40 years) so heartwarming. All of the bread, pastries and tapas variety (Spanish this time around) are so deliciously and thoughtfully crafted. Example: flatbreads can be tricky due to wet ingredients on top (veg and cheese) to make for a soggier and floppier bottom crust....But not the way they do it!!! The flatbread still had a crispy flakey bite to it and that's a big deal when texture is important to you. We decided this is an EXCELLENT gem of a place and we will be back for many date nights to come!

Dark chocolate demi baguette. So cute and delish!

Came back today - told you! And did not disappoint again. Got the dark chocolate demi (mini) baguette and it hit the spot! Aesthetically very French and the taste was very European as it was a smooth subtle dark chocolate unlike some sweet ones you can encounter. Best part was that it was crunchy on the outside and very fluffy and soft on the inside. Almost like Dutch crunch I'd get for a sandwich without it hurting the roof of my mouth. The crunchy outside was not too hard either since harder shell can make the eating experience frustrating. The look of it was stunning and the inside was nice and airy like the Asian baos I usually go for due to the lightweight nature of the inside. Great contrast to the baguettes crust and carbs did not make me feel heavy at all. Chefs kiss 5/5!

    Cinnamon Babka

I usually buy Upper Crust Baking's raisin challah bread from Sacramento's Sunday Certified Farmers Market because it's my fav challah bread. This time, their cinnamon babka caught my eye, so I thought to try it by bringing it home for the holidays. The kind vendor gave me helpful storage tips, when I asked how long this can keep in room temp, and tips for freezing if needed. I was so full from Christmas eve dinner, so I thought I would try just one piece of the babka for dessert. Nope! It's so scrumptious that I sliced and ate two more pieces! I will be buying this again next time and gifting this to friends and family! Upper Crust Baking has been a fav since my and my friend's college days, so I love how I can continue to be spoiled with access to their delicious treats at our local farmer's market!

Cardamom bun! I will always get this if they have it. That's sugar on top not salt.

Best pastry. Arnold Palmer, house made iced tea and lemonade. Relaxing patio, kind staff.

Came here today to join the Wednesday pizza night. Having tried a few of their menu items last week, it was an easy choice for a family dinner night for my daughter's birthday. Great pizza, and great dessert! This bakery is special - you can taste the passion in their products. They've got a nice reward program as well, both online or a paper card. The menu is primarily desserts (tarts, pastry, cookies, cheesecake, and few others) and baked bread items from loaf/sliced breads, bagels, pretzels, to croissants. Very much enjoy finding this spot due to an event last week. Will be coming here for special weekend coffee and breakfast trips, and the occasional pizza night. Looking forward to trying the Winters location as well to try out the donuts! Ambiance of a small bakery with a window bar style seating, cute indoor table, and additional outdoor seating. Busy and lots of traffic on pizza nights, have yet to join for what I expect to be a busy morning coffee and pastry rush! Highly recommend - order ahead on pizza night! (Check out the website for details).

Delicious chocolate croissant and almond croissant! I love how they offer pizza nights so I look forward to coming with my family and friends! Service was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about everything they offer. Only outdoor seatings are available.

    Chocolate babka loaf

Stopped by this cute shop in Davis for fresh bread! Both the croissant and the chocolate babka loaf were amazing. Look how airy the croissant is! It's conveniently located next to the CO-OP with plenty parking. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and very knowledgable about the items they are selling. I lived in Davis for 5 years, rarely visit, but am always surprised with new awesome places like this! They have another location in Winters. Both are worth the drive!

Overall great food, service and atmosphere! I had their fruit tart and the crust is very good. I normally wouldn't pick blueberry but it turned out very pleasant. I had their Pauline Pizza and the rosemary was a nice touch. The combination with onion and the crust work excellent together.

Satisfied my craving for sourdough:) staff was friendly and location was very welcoming. Definitely give them a try.

Cheesecake!! I had a small piece of it and it was plenty. Rich and creamy. Not too sweet and dense. A bit pricy side so it'll be my special occasion treats. Savory scone (this one had blue cheese and something else) was very tasty for next day's breakfast. I'd like to try other pastries/cake next time!

I've always loved Upper Crust Baking from farmers markets. Their apple turnover and apricot pastry are so delicious. Today I stopped by the bakery in Davis and absolutely love the cozy vibes. I got here a little late but I'm happy to see butter croissants still available. I got one and upon picking it up I already love that it is clean to the touch (not oily or crumbly). It is buttery, simple yet so tasty! It's beautifully puffed with good layers. Love. Service is friendly and helpful. I asked about pizza night and the staff gave me lots of info and a flyer that has coupons in them~ I will definitely come back to try more. More pastries, drinks and event pizza night.

I'm trying to order pizzas but the website won't let me. It says there are not enough in supply. It says this regardless how many I try to order. The website says you can order online or call but I call and a woman stated that I can't. Why?

Hi Michael, please give us a call on 530-750-1180 and we will take your order over the phone. Once you are connected, dial 0 for a bakery associate. If someone says they can't take your order over the phone, they're wrong. Tell them the owner says…

Can you get a cup of coffee there, too?

Yes! We do pour-over coffee from Pachamama Coffee Roasters, a farmer-owned cooperative based in Sacramento.

They had some savory pies, cold pies, but mostly baked pies like peach, various berries, etc! They also have fruit freezes you can purchase too! We ended up sharing a banana cream pie and i got a peach pie too. The banana cream pie was HEFTY. It was HEAVY and PACKEDDDD. A LOT of cream a LOT of banana filling. Very yummy though and feeds a lot more people than you'd think. The peach pie was also very good! Im not a huge "cooked fruit" person and neither is mt family but we demolished the pie. The peaches were a surprisingly nice texture! And the crust was very good. $30 is a bit steep but if theyre using fresh fruits and baking them fresh its worth a stop if youre in the area!

There is a lot of table space in the cafe and when UC Davis is in session, I've found many of the tables to be occupied by students doing just that. Mishka's Cafe has been around since 1995 and is a beloved place in Davis. It's a traditional cafe that has a welcoming atmosphere. When you first walk into the cafe you'll see the food case just to your left. It is filled with cafe items such as croissants, muffins, and cookies. There are savory items as well as sweet. I found the quality of the food here to be quite good and unique. Sometimes cafe food just feels like it came from somewhere else, but even if these did, they have a uniqueness about them. For example, the chocolate croissant is very flakey with a good amount of chocolate in the interior. It really surprised me! I also found the ham and cheese croissant to be very rich in flavor. My only gripe about either or these items was the heating method. I'm not sure how they are heated up, but they feel as though they used one of those quick heaters to quickly get them ready rather than a good toaster to get the items nice and crisp. As good as they are they were a bit limp due to the heating method. In terms of coffee, it's perfectly adequate. They have special offerings as well as their traditional menu. I found the coffee to be mild and friendly. It's not too strong nor very unique. It's just a solid cup. Sometimes that's really all you need.
