This is a wonderful cafe with a pleasant staff and great food/drinks. Our twins come to Kaiser for speech therapy and they are always so excited to visit the cafe. The staff there is so cool and they are so sweet to our boys, always there with welcoming smiles and great vibes. I love how they take the time to chat with our family and they are always so patient with our twins when they are ordering (some days they don't know what they want!) The cafe has fresh coffee (I like the Café Carmelita, so good!) delicious bagels, fresh fruit, ect. My Husband loves their cinnamon roll, it's pretty big! They also have the best croissants and pockets. We love to support Panama Cafe. I can't thank Panama Bay Coffee enough in Kaiser Oakland for the beautiful staff of hardworking and always smiling people to truly brighten up your day. I've been a fan of Panama Bay in Livermore and was tickled seeing there was a spot within Kaiser Oakland (downstairs, first floor, around the corner from the Pharmacy in a small alcove). We frequent this hospital quite often and we now have a post-appointment favorite of freshly baked cookies or the sandwich pockets..think uncrustables but in adult form. The first pocket I tried was a breakfast one with eggs, cheese, and hot sauce. Most recently I tried the grilled cheese. What I love most about these 'sandwiches' are that they're budget friendly, handheld, and can grab & go. I love convenience now more than ever, and if I can eat something nourishing and delicious in one hand, while holding the kiddo in the other, perfection. The customer service and food were above great. Everyone was so nice, folks in the back were even waving. They worked so quickly and happy as a team. I came back 3 times the entire time I was in the area that 1 day. At one point as I walked away staff followed to give us bags and napkins. Like wow! You guys truly care. Such a great look. Staff is always very friendly, food and drinks are always fresh and delicious. I really enjoyed their mocha with a spinach and cheese croissant. They have yummy sandwiches and salads at lunch, which I would always accompany with fresh OJ or a refreshing smoothie. Cafe inside Kaiser at 3701 Broadway. Makes going to the medical center, pharmacy, or lab much more tolerable. Their sandwiches, drinks, smoothies, and baked goods are delicious. The people that work there are always very nice and welcoming and the drinks are made right away. It's a cute little shop at the back of the medical center with a nice display case for the food they sell. The chicken salad sandwich was delicious with little pieces of chopped apple inside. Yum! The business is more of a coffee and tea station than a bakery, serving hot and cold beverages, bakery items (croissants, cookies, danish pastries, breakfast sandwiches, hot and cold sandwiches). Location: 3701 Broadway, at the end of of the corridor of the main entrance to Kaiser/Permanente. Upon entering the hospital, walk pass the pharmacy and small library of information on the left side of the corridor. Apparently, there is some misinformation from other yelpers that they are not in business. I do have proof that Panama Bay Coffee Company is opened during the day (morning and afternoon). They may be closed in the evening. My husband and I have stopped at this station all of last week, Monday through Friday, to purchase latte with three shots of expresso, croissant, ham 'n cheese croissant, danish pastries, turkey sandwich and bottled water. I have to be in this hospital for my visits to the Radiology/Oncology Department for medical treatment five days a week. Before receiving my treatment, we stop by to say hello to the employees and purchase something for breakfast. The station is basically an order to go, as there are no tables and chairs for dining on the premises. However, there is a sandwich board across from the business advertising their hot sandwiches. Coffee credenza has sugar, creamer, stir sticks, napkins, etc. Cart has coffee mugs, snacks, cereal bars, mason jars filled with teas. Display case is filled with baked items, cookies, fruit parfait, cold sandwiches, turkey wrap, etc. (Credenza needs cleaning...sticky residue of coffee on the counter.) Customer service: friendly and pleasant employees who aim to please the customers. Hospitals can be a little depressing at times, but having a coffee/tea station with pleasant employees serving people is a welcome sight. Thank goodness the Panama Bay Coffee Company is there; otherwise, we would have to go elsewhere (Oakland Medical Building or the Fabiola Building) to get something to eat and drink. read more

This sweet, small coffee shop is a gem in all of Oakland and makes my constant trips to Kaiser more tolerable. The amazing individuals that run it are absolute angels and put out some of the tastiest coffee and delicious bites anywhere in Oakland. My 7 yr old son accidentally lost his favorite hat when we were at the pharmacy this past week. It was a huge catastrophe as you can imagine. They had been so engaging, made him feel like a rock star & authentically, preciously interacted with him while we were getting him one of their melt in your mouth croissants! It made his whole day! They were playing, exchanging hats and just being the kindest, most beautiful people ever. We went back to look for it once we realized it was lost, but we should have checked in with the angels at Panama. At the end of their long, hard working day, they recognized his hat sitting there lonely on a chair. They swept it up and saved it for me as they see me there often. I came back the next day for my 3rd appt at Kaiser this week, AND THEY SHOWED ME THE HAT! I broke down into tears! Their thoughtful, altruistic, small act of human kindness absolutely melted my heart! This is a special local business that deserves loads of support & HUGE TIPS! If you happen to be at the 3701 Kaiser Medical Office Building and you need a coffee fix, Panama comes to the rescue as it's conveniently located here while you wait for your prescription to be filled or for lab work. They also offer pastries, sandwiches, cookies, and other small snacks if you're hungry, but do add a lot to your total bill. I had a croissant here and was disappointed it wasn't flaky or buttery. If you happen to order a "pocket" sandwich, which reminds me of those Uncrustables sealed sandwiches, do be prepared to wait at least 10-15 minutes for that order. read more

Plus they're also a local company. I make a point of coming here rather than getting coffee at the Starbucks when I have appointments at Kaiser. About 2 weeks I stopped by here to get a quick snack to hold me over until lunch. There was a decent selection of baked goods, but surprisingly no menu of the prices for the baked goods (Panama, please post prices). When I was told the cookies were $2.75 and the ham and cheese croissants $3.75, I thought the croissants would be the better deal. $2.75 for a cookie? That price is beginning to get up there. One bite into my croissant and I was beginning to wonder if the cookie would have been the better deal. There was very little ham and cheese in the croissant, and the croissant itself was chewy and sour so could barely be called a croissant. Where was the buttery flavor and light, flaky texture? It's possible but unlikely that it was a sourdough croissant, and the fact that my croissant was microwaved instead of toasted could have been the problem. When the employee asked if I wanted it heated, I thought he meant toasted. Is that too much to ask? One plus about my experience is that the employees were very friendly and service was prompt. Considering my overall experience with the croissant and staff, I give the place 3 stars. Note that I did *not* try any coffee or any other beverages. I'm willing to give the place another shot and will update this review when I do. read more
