I've eaten at this panchos twice in the month, Tonight being the most recent trip. They were busy tonight and out of cheese enchiladas again. They made more but I didn't ask for a refill. The food was fresher than last time and the credit card machine was working unlike last time. I just love their food. The nostalgia is probably why but since I go to humble so much I figure I should make a trip of it. This location is larger than the one I grew up going to on long point. So disappointed. I've never expected Pancho's to be anything except what it is; a Mexican buffet with two things I really like (chile rellenos and green chile stew) and other things that are ok. The rellenos were not up to their usual standards. The stew was okay. But the food wasn't hot enough (temperature, not spice) and I had some "digestive issues" afterwards that may or may not have been related. Service was okay, and the place appeared clean. read more

First off- 1 star was given simply bc ZERO stars is not an option. Upon walking into the restaurant, the ambiance was exactly as I remember it, growing up and visiting Pancho's as a kid with my family. Got in line- everything was fair by that point. Once we got to the table, the food was ok. It wasn't anything to write home about & definitely nothing my husband and I would drive 40 minutes ever again for. Once we were both done with our drinks and wanted refills as well as a few other choice items from the food line. When I say that we had that little flag raised to indicate that we were ready for service for no less than 30 MINUTES- I am not exaggerating when I say this! One waitress, bless her- was ambushed by a table of more than 6 very demanding people that kept her busy! The other waiter was keeping himself "busy" by fixing chairs and tables ... he looked up at our table several times, but not once did he ask us what we needed or checked on us. Just glance up, fix a chair, look again and turn around as if our table was the only one with a flag up, requesting service. After 45 minutes my husband said screw this and got up to get our own refills and even had to get back in the food line to grab more food. All in all, it the food was mediocre, the service was HORRIBLE and thus my memories I held so dear as a child going to Pancho's with my parents have now been completely tainted by this experience. Husband and I agreed, we will never come back here again. Attached is a photo of the gentleman who so rudely ignored us for more than 30 to 45 minutes. To him, I say- get your stuff together! Do your job! And do what's more important and help the customers instead of worrying about fixing tables, chairs and making sure the flag raises. Oh What can I say? Pancho's has been my favorite since the first time I ever ate there way back in 1970. I think they were almost every where in this part of Texas. I lived in Pasadena back then and my children were very young. The ambiance is the same all Mexico. They still celebrate birthdays and special occasions. I was sad to discover the one in Humble Texas is one of only 3 left now and the Original owner recently passed away. Sadly they most likely will not be opening more. This really breaks my heart because NO ONE AND I DO MEAN NO ONE makes their Green Chili Stew or their Fabulous Chili Relenos Like Pancho's. I wish they would consider reopening closer to where we now live in Seguin Texas. Yes I would drive to New Braunfels for their food. Our Grand Children loved going there and often picked it as a place to go eat especially for their Birthdays. Mexican food to our then 5 year old Grand Daughter Amarye was Pancho's. I wish I had her Birthday picture on this camera but she is 31 now and we didn't have smart phones. lol Still they haven't changed much . Their extras bar may have expanded and their deserts as well. But the Service is still as great and friendly as ever. Their buffet hot line remains the same. Once seated you're free to go pick any of your favorite toppings or extras or just raise your flag for what ever you want. Then help your self to their deserts or again if you know what you want just raise your flag. Oh my I forgot to get their sopapeas hot with honey , served hot with honey. A must have. I will miss this very much But it was a Great treat on our way back home after Thanksgiving . My sincere sympathy for the family who lost their leader. Husband, Father, Grand Father and probably by now a Great or even Great Great Grand Father. He and his legacy will be remembered for many many years by so many who loved Pancho's. read more

I hadn't been to ponchos since at least 1990 but a friend mentioned it and we figured why not? Since one reviewer on here tore the place up for having greasy, and spicy food, I took that as a challenge! I cannot imagine a Mexican buffet without it being greasy, and God willing, have some things that are spicy! The set up was the same as I remember: a Buffet, do you get your initial food and drinks then wait staff to bring more whenever you asked. The food was better quality than I recalled. Most of the employees appeared to actually be Mexican which is not required, but is a nice touch. Since I'm no longer a kid. I only ate two plates full of food then some and soap pillows (sopapillas) for dessert. They were exactly as I recall hot, Fresh, crunchy, and delicious with honey drizzled over them. I'll go again in a few weeks. You should too. I admit, there was no maître d' nor a mariachi band but the food was good as well as the service. Just OK. I remember when I thought that this place was the bomb. We had birthday parties here when our daughter was young. The entrees haven't changed much, but the flautas, green chili stew, tex-mex enchiladas, tacos and chalupa(4 stars) are still a standout. I was disappointed with the chili rellenos this time as the pepper was sparse. (2 stars) I imagine this place would still be a destination for hangover eats. The sopapillas are still the draw for me! Food was decent and it brought back some of the best childhood memories back to me... until it was time to raise the flag that used to be this restaurants pride and joy. You raised the flag & were immediately greeted by a happy waitstaff member happy and ready to help and bring you a refill of your requested beverage or any item from the cafeteria style line you may have forgotten or wanted seconds of. But now you raise the flag and the waiters walk by and ignore it completely. It was up so long that i had to be our own waiter and I had to be the one to get up & get a refill and some more food. When I revisit, it's simply nostalgic. Am I expecting the very best of authentic Mexican food. Duck face. We are talking about a wide range Mexican buffet for about 8 bucks. Again let's be real and not compare Panchos to Pappasitos or Hugo's. This is a different beast all together. Queso was runny, salsa was watered down, food was blandish and sopapillas was DELICIOUS... I ate a lot of it and was satisfied. It's better than Taco Bell... at least to me. No, don't schedule you're 30th or 50th birthday here if you want to impress. If you're starved for a buffet and craving a wider variety of Mexican buffet than what Golden Coral has to offer, this is your place. How much are you willing to pay for all you can eat hard tacos and tostadas? Take that price and subtract some money off because the food here barely has flavor. My wife loves Mexican food, so I knew it would be an easy sale to try out a Mexican buffet with her. I do not have the highest expectations from a buffet, but I do expect to find at least one dish that would make me want to keep eating...and make sure the food is at a proper temperature. They consistently managed to get one of my two non-negotiables correct. When you enter, you come to all of the hot items, and you let them know what items you would like to start off with and they will fix it. You take your tray to the cashier, which is directly in front of the drink station, and pay for your meal. You take a tray to your table of choice, and then you will see that there is a salad bar, condiment bar and dessert station in that area. There was a slight bit of confusion when I finished my first plates because I kept getting up to get things to eat. The system they have in place is that you raise the flag at your table and a waiters will come over and do the leg work for you. My line of thinking is that I will not remember everything that was on the menu for my first glances, so I prefer to get up and look at them food items before I selected them. I conceded to their desires and just asked the waitress to name off the items, and placed my orders. I really wish I could say that the foods were memorable, but they truly were not. The food here is so bland that is makes your taste buds cry. Normally queso makes everything better, but not even the yellow river of love could make these dishes better than bland. You have many choices of enchiladas, but nothing really stood out. You had the option of beef, chicken or ground turkey to make your tacos and tostadas, but nothing really stood out. Even the shredded cheese underwhelmed me. When all else fails, add sour cream to it, and that makes things slide down your throat much easier. I will give them credit for having moist shredded chicken...with no flavor! The staff is nice here and very professional. It is just too bad that no one in the kitchen would be bold enough to use spices to make this place stand out. The food was always the right temperature, so I did like that from this buffet spot. Just a tip for you, pay for your drink, but get it after you find a table so you do not do the awkward Freshman walking through the cafeteria in a new school in a new state stroll. If I want many, average or sub average tasting tacos at a cheap price, I would come back here. The food here definitely taste low quality. read more

This was a childhood favorite and was happy to see a location near me. We decided to try it. The manager was not a very warming person at all. Kinda rude. All of our food was cold and disgusting. The sopapillas tasted like they were cooked in dirty oil. There was curly black hair in the macoroni. The ice cream was melted. Complained to the manager and he said he needed to put Freon in it and never did it. I wanted a refund the manager said he needed the money and the waitstaff only makes 2 dollars an hour. If the food was kept at the right temperature then you wouldn't be struggling for customers or money. We all are now sick throwing up. Thanks to this establishment. Many, many years ago I lived near a Panchos in D/FW so frequented the place since I'm a fan of Tex-Mex. Never left disappointed or dissatisfied. Today I happened to be in Humble & thought I would reminisce of my earlier life & dining experiences, therefore I chose Panchos. Just as I remembered, not really much has changed ( except the virus pandemic with separated tables, masks, occupancy limits, etc.) At the buffet, ordered my favorites: chile relleno with queso sauce on top, rice & beans, tamales, tacos followed by a couple trips to the salad bar where I could serve myself as I remembered. Enjoyed the Tex-Mex flavors which are so memorable so many years later. For the finale' a trip to the dessert bar where I served myself again. No room for sopapillas & honey this time so didn't get to 'raise-the-flag' but there is hopefully a next time! Left with that satisfied feeling, both inside & out. I'll be back when near! Food is definitely Tex-Mex but it's good it's already set up buffet style where they serve you so it works perfectly with all the paranoid covid-19 people. The chili rellenos are really good as everything else. The service is good really everything to my opinion - all you can eat for what you would pay for one plate at one of the other Mexican joints. I was not impressed with the food I felt like the food had no taste and it was pretty much bland being my first time eating here, So I decided to get up and go to the salad bar section where there have soups and beans as I got there I smelled a stench of like something wet around the counter I did not like it at all. The waitstaff is hard working, and kind.The brightest spot and the only reason to dine here. The food is just above freezer section quality and only because they warm it up for you. No liquor availble too. My visit was because of nostalgia, my pops would take us to the now defunct 59 south location back in the 80's. The food wasn't good then either but the sopapillas were and still are on point. So extremely disappointed with my visit here especially since this is a place that is in a lot of my childhood memories. I told my children all about how wonderful the Sopapillas were when I was a kid and we were all excited to get them only to experience something that should not be served in a restaurant. One of my children had hair in her food, my food and everyone else at my table was disgusting. I'm not overreacting I am seriously saying the food was disgusting. We ended up leaving Pancho's hungry and disgusted. The facility was so dirty that no one felt comfortable sitting in the booth.
