I recently found out a Ponchos was still open in Houston area and I had to go for nostalgic reasons. After 30 years from the last time I had it, it hasn't changed a bit. I had the regular stuff 1 of each. But the real reason was for the sopapillias and to raise the flag 1 more time. If your from Houston you may remember this restaurant one was on 45 north at Tidwell plaza, the other near Almeda mall.

Classic that needs an extra TLC. Service and atmosphere: Outstanding service. Very friendly and helpful staff - five stars. The restaurant still has its charm but may need a bit of refresh in my opinion. This buffet was famous for raising a flag at the table to have service members to get you more food from the buffet area. Food: The food was okay. The buffet offers typical Mexican food options. A bit more variety would be a bonus. Pricing: $

I was on the north side of town and decided to stop at Pancho's because of nostalgia. The picadillo, chile soup and crunchy tacos were my favs. Everything else tasted the same. They also bought out our sopapillas 5 minutes after we sat down so they weren't warm when we were ready to dig in. Overall I'm happy I tried it again 30 years later but I'll probably never return.

First Pancho's I've seen since the 80s. Very exciting!!!

I love Pancho's. I haven't been to one since I was a kid in the 80s. I found this one outside of Houston on my way to visit my kids and it is great! Food was hot & delicious. Service was good.

My husband grew up on Panchos and really missed it so while traveling to Galveston we had to stop in for lunch . He said it was just as he remembered.

I used to go to Panchos as a kid, and unfortunately it's lost all authenticity. The service was about the only good thing about this restaurant. The ambiance of the restaurant was bland and boring. I expected more be so close to the holiday of Día de los muertos. The food itself was bland and very Americanized and lacks all flavor.

Wow. Food was good! All you can eat. Tamales, enchiladas, tacos and so much more. Soups and nachos, and chips and salsa. Go, go, go. And the dessert bar and sopapillas. Yes please. Raise the flag and the service is there instantly! Can't wait to go back!

Condiment Station that had all kinds of things like pasta salads, salsa, dessert and all the fixings.

I'm impressed!!! We've been to several Pancho's that have been shut down and all seemed very ran down. This location is clean, food was good and staff is very friendly and attentive. Plenty of seating too and the decor is very colorful and upbeat. As items ran out the staff was very quick to fill it.

    Raise the red flag!!!!

It's really kind of sad because I remember poncho's Mexican buffet being very common in the greater Houston area in the 80s and 90s. The service was excellent. Everybody that we came across was very welcoming and accommodating. There were quite a few people there and it seems like a place that you would go to if you want to feed a bunch of little ones or you have more than two or three in your party. Unfortunately, I didn't really think the food was that great. The only thing that I found halfway decent was the tamales in terms of flavor. Well, the Mexican rice was good, but it's extremely dry. The sopaipillas seemed like they were made from tortillas. We went for a drive here since this location is all the way in Humble. It's okay.

In many ways, Panchos Mexican buffet is like your typical Tex-Mex restaurant. It has an assortment of enchiladas, tamales, beans, rice, soups, and stews. What sets Panchos apart from other Tex-Mex restaurants is the fact that is a buffet with service meaning if you decide you didn't get enough of a food item, just raised the flag on the table. Someone on the wait staff will refill that item. Of course specialty items like fajitas are available. But not on the buffet as but a straight menu order. Also don't think of leaving this restaurant without getting its complimentary hot and fresh sopapillas. The is of restaurant quality although the food selections are limited to the basics. This Panchos is the last remaining one in the Houston area.

The Order Status for food I NEVER PICK UP BUT WAS CHARGED FOR!!!

Parking is shared in the plaza and was smaller than expected. The restaurant is fairly large - wide and the buffet bar is pretty big. There are the standard buffet options fried rice, lo mein, beef and broccoli, orange chicken, chicken wings, dumplings, egg rolls, spring rolls, etc and a good assortment of seafood - shrimp, fish, clams, mussels, and more. The usual battered and fried stuff. And of course pizza. There is a separate section of sushi - rolls, nigiri, etc. There is also a few soups and a small salad and sauce bar. They had Chinese bbq buns, custard buns and the Chinese style sticky rice (wrapped in banana leaf). There are dessert options too like ice cream, fruit, pudding, cakes, and slushies. They also have a hibachi grill and what they called a hot pot (but was more like a bowl of noodle soup). The hibachi grill noodles were good. There aren't a lot of options but plenty of meats. The hot pot soup (spicy) seemed to use a Sichuan style chili which altered the taste of the soup a bit. Get regular and add your own spice. The staff were friendly and attentive. It's a very far drive for us because we are in the city so not somewhere we'd go often but not against trying it again.

The duck is roasted for hours, so the skin comes out nice and crispy without being too greasy. I also like that the remaining duck is made into a soup afterward. It's simple, hearty, and especially good on a colder day. I've tried several other dishes here, and they've all been solid and remind me of the Chinese food I grew up eating. The servers have always been attentive and friendly, and the restaurant is spacious, so it's a good spot for family dinners or larger groups.

When we finally got seated we weren't asked What would you like to drink or this is our drink menu. It was-Water,right,right,Ok brb. So we had water just like the rest of the people in there. Also weird how they don't have any drinks on the menu or let you know about options. Could I have asked for something else? Sure but again waitresses were just all over the place it was crazy. When we ordered and others food was coming out we realized what big portions they give you. BTW just 'cus it's big portions doesn't mean This food is about to be the best Ive ever had. The food- We got some shrimp plate and we were told it was spicy because it has peppers and peppercorns which would numb your tongue which it was just basic shrimp dish. Only good or cool part of it was eating lotus root which Ive never had before. We also ordered the "special" house beef noodles and I don't see the hype or why they're so special. The only crazy part was the noodles length. Which honestly made it hard to eat. We ordered the duck which came with the soup. The soup was made from scraps. I think if they had added more duck and not just scraps it would be my fav thing of everything we ordered. Will say it tasted like chicken soup. For the duck. It wasn't as crispy as people made it seem to be. I expect idk a more gamey flavor to it and all I kept saying is-This taste like pork carnitas. Idk why we got treated than the table behind us. We asked for to go just like they do but they just gave them their to-go plates like Here ya go and they put all of our food in our to-go for us. Would I go back? Its one of those you say- Ok I've had it,had the duck, don't get the hype but ok not worth coming back again for more.
