My daughter has been employed at Panda Express on 41at Ave in Santa Cruz, CA for more than three years. Recently, she arrived home in tears because some of her male colleagues were displaying homophobic behavior, bullying and making very rude comments towards their transgender coworker. My daughter defended her co-worker but the guys continued harassing her, causing her co-worker to hide in the bathroom for a long time, leaving my daughter frightened. My daughter has been harassed by male co-workers and nothing changes even if she complains. In short, my daughter informed her supervisor but no action was taken, or so we thought. The manager reduced my daughter's hours instead of disciplining the "guys", one of the guys even came up to my daughter and taunted her about her hours being cut! I am tired of witnessing females in her workplace being consistently treated poorly and not even given the chance to grow within Panda, despite efforts to report it to higher authorities. You have to call ahead and order eggplant tofu in advance, or be willing to wait a bit for them to make it- fried eggplant doesn't age well. But that means your food is cooked fresh. Now I just found out that, instead of rice, you can have mixed veggies be the base and top it with the eggplant! That's awesome and certain to make me go more frequently. The people are friendly and hard-working. Location is nuts during rush hour tho- make sure you time your arrival properly. Like totally avoid anywhere near 5pm-ish! Some things never change. I purposely ordered through the mobile app so I wouldn't have to stand in line with people for a long time. I even waited for an extra time in my car because I know they don't always have eggplant tofu readily available. I'm about 10 minutes over my estimated pick up time. I walk in and the cashier said "oh we are waiting on your eggplant tofu." I literally saw him tell the cook "hey we need a eggplant tofu ready." The cook then barely starts to cook the dish. WTF? Really? I then waited another 10 minutes for them to barely prepare my bowl. What's the point of online ordering and planning if I'm still going to have to wait with everyone around me? Good food. The Cafeteria style is great for mixing up your menu and it is consistently good. The dining area is well lighted because of the big windows. It is a pleasant place to eat. Since I do not like all Chinese food, this chain suits me well because I can order only the things l like. To me, that is a big plus. I like eating here. read more

I used the online ordering system today at this Panda Express. I called my order in about 3 pm for me to pick it up at 4: 45 pm. I arrived at the location at approximately 4: 50 pm and I went to the online Express counter and asked for my order and I was told it wasn't ready yet. I waited and watched as employees helped other customers at the buffet line for 20 minutes before I finally got my "Express" order. I would encourage everyone not to use their online ordering system, it is completely worthless. read more

I arrived and noticed the line was moving very slowly. After waiting for close to 30 minutes outside, I started to see someone "testing the food temperature" during the dinner rush. I have never seen that done at any other locations. She was slowing down the flow of commerce, exponentially. The other employees literally waited for her to finish in each metal serving container. 45 minutes later after I had chosen my food, I get to the register and the cashier just walked away without saying anything. I live nearby and have come here half a dozen times so far. The food is tasty and of consistent quality, and the staff is friendly. I have some food sensitivities and can get a stomachache from greasy food or food with certain ingredients, but Panda Express chow mein and their beef and chicken (not the orange chicken because it contains eggs!) always seem to make my body feel good, so I appreciate that and the affordable price. My wife and I bought two plates today and a couple chicken egg rolls. I got our meals to go because we only live a block away and wanted to eat at home. When we got home and started eating, we were so surprised because there was absolutely no favor from any other items on our plates. Everything was simply bland. I have had hospital food which tasted better, The only flavor we found was in the chicken egg rolls. At least those tasted like they were supposed to. I tried calling Panda to talk with the manager. The phone just rang and rang, then a recording came on which said, "We're sorry, there is no one here to take your call. Goodbye!" And we got hung up on. We have never had a problem with our food before. It was always very tasty and enjoyable to eat. This was a first. That was why I tried to call the manager. I wanted to know if they changed the way they make their food. Yet no manager would answer the phone. So, as it currently stands, we will NOT be returning to Panda Express. Today was just a pure waste of money. And as senior citizens on a very fixed income, we cannot afford to throw money away. And today we threw money away on what I feel was garbage. I would give this place a -5 stars if I could. Every time I come in here the food looks oh-so appetizing but is the greasiest and heaviest "Chinese" food out there. Without voting to eat here, my friends picked this as place to meet up yesterday. To begin with, I ordered 1/2 brown rice and 1/2 steamed veggies as my side. I thought, "yay! I'm doing pretty well so far" then I ordered the Shanghai Beef which is relatively low in calories compared to the rest of the choices. I also had a serving of mushroom chicken which honestly tasted pretty good. I also got a small fountain cup, totaling my bill to $7.50. I understand I got a "premium item" (the beef) which increased the bill slightly. However, if you were to go to any real sit-down Chinese place I'm sure you could find several lunch specials that are at or below the amount Panda Express charges. Now, I'm no doctor and I don't loosely accuse or throw around the phrase "food poisoning" most likely because I've never had it before. But, as of now, I'm confident to say that I got sick after eating the food from here yesterday. Fast forward to five hours post Panda meal (around 5 O'clock) I started feeling sick to my stomach, nauseous, and a bit sweaty. I decided to go home early; during that 1/2 hour drive I couldn't wait to use the restroom and had to find one as hurriedly as possible. When I got home I felt weak and started to throw up. I honestly felt like I was dying and it lasted throughout the night. I now miraculously feel better this morning since yesterday's dirty deed. I've had the stomach flu before, I've also had the "24 hour flu," but this felt like a whole different experience of its own. I really like this Panda Express location. Sometimes there are long lines but they get to customers asap. The manager John is very courteous and nice. The food is the usual you would get at any Panda Express location. I always order the two item meal with 2 veggie rolls with the red sauce, those are super delicious. My favorite is the walnut shrimp special they used to have before. Now they've replaced it with some spicy shrimp, it's ok the other one was better I hope they bring it back soon. Orange chicken is always a winner, and my personal other favorite is beef with broccoli. They always give out coupons on the back of the receipts just need to call to fill out a survey and will save you some money. The locations is clean and well kept, plenty of seating area, friendly for loners or larger parties. You can also wait if you'd like the freshest food they've just cooked and are about to serve. I've done that before and waited about 10 mins once they have the new trays out. This is when the other food is running out. All in all Panda Express is a fast food place and if you have some elitist expectations from the food and service then you're simply hilarious. read more

Ahhh Chinese food in a fast food format. There is nothing the matter with being able to get your food from a heated tray, as long as you do not expect much. But for the price and quantity you get the quality is sufficient. This place for some reason makes more Orange Chicken than Mandarin, that's a first for me, must be the location. WARNING - If you use the app to order and pay for you food, you will end up waiting at least three times as long to get your food as people who place their orders in person. Your online order (that was supposed to be ready by the time you got to the store), won't be started until you've waited in the special online order line for several minutes, and then the person who starts your order will start and complete a new walk-in customer's order in the middle of completing yours. You'll save yourself a lot of frustration by just going to the store to place your order and NEVER using the app. Update: I'll pass on the free entrees. To actually make up for this experience, you could implement changes to improve this store's process of fulfilling e-based (app and online) food orders. Some possible action steps include the following: A high traffic store like this one should have dedicated staff available at peak times to complete e-based orders as they are received by the computer system and should be started immediately if the customer selected ASAP (i.e., staff should not wait until customer is at the store to start order). Alternatively, the ticket printouts for e-based orders could be stationed next to the staff who start the in-person orders (i.e., the sides) so that they can alternate between starting e-based and in-person orders (instead of waiting for a rare lull in in-person orders before starting e-based orders). Furthermore, it would be better for the automated order confirmation email to include no "order ready at" time rather than an unrealistic time. Other apps not only notify customers when their order has been started and is ready, but also have an option for customers to notify the store when they are on the way and when they have arrived. read more
