I'm not sure if the quality was compromised here because it is located at a busy rest stop in Barstow but we were highly disappointed with the cleanliness of the location and quality of the food we received. Both my husband and I chose the "Pick 2" meals and our meals were quickly brought to our table. The first thing I noticed was my clearly dirty spoon that accompanied my soup. I tried to find a worker to exchange it out but had to go up to the counter to ask for a new one. I didn't get an apology but was just handed a new spoon. My husband's sandwich had an obvious hair woven into the top slice of bread. We found another worker, who appeared to be a manager, who did apologize and took it back. By the time I finished my meal, they brought out a new sandwich. The food was just ok. I've been to Panera before and was impressed by the freshness and quality of ingredients but I didn't feel that way here. Staff was friendly, the restaraunt was clean, food order came out correct and timely. It was really busy when I was there on a Sunday afternoon, alot of people traveling from Vegas had stopped for a late lunch but the staff handled it really well and with genuine smiles on their face. I had the Seasonal Green Salad but with the Green Goddess dressing instead of the reduced fat balsamic (they were out). The Green Goddess dressing is AMAZING, who knew. Seriously, so good. I also had the Southwest Chicken Soup, also very good and very filling. It's pretty low cal and kept me full all day until a late dinner. If you are expecting a traditional tortilla soup, you will be disappointed. The Southwest Soup has more of a broth base vs a tortilla soup which usually has a rich tomato base. Still, I thought it was very good, it was packed with shredded chicken and other ingredients, they didn't skimp. It came with fresh french bread, panera french bread is amongst one of my favs for a chain restaraunt. I am really happy with what Panera is doing as far as clean ingredients and a transparent food menu are concerned. Had a great experience at this Panera drive-thru location! The wait after ordering was about 10 minutes (which I'd expect given that they're not a typical fast food drive through), but they kindly offered free chocolate chip cookies for the slight delay. Super friendly staff as well. I'll definitely be back next time I'm driving thru Barstow. read more

We stopped on our way back home from Vegas. We were greeted by the person behind the counter, we placed our order and found a table. When our order was ready, I noticed that a sandwich was missing so I told the young lady in the cook area. She checked my receipt and noticed that the sandwich was not on the order. A gentleman that was in the cook area also (I think he was a manager) asked what sandwich was missing and told me that he he would have it ready for me in a few minutes. I asked him if I should get back in line to pay for it he said don't worry about it. I'm usually a fan of Panera Bread, but was disappointed with the lack of offerings and portion sizes at this branch. The cashier line was about seven people deep, so we tried to electronically order from the kiosk. However, after the third time it stated that our choice was unavailable, we went back to the in-person line. They were out of their staple mac and cheese, but luckily had the chicken tortellini alfredo (which the kiosk stated there was none). When the portion size came, I was surprised to only see the to-go cup half full. I asked the server if this was the right size and he confirmed. I hope this branch improves its kiosks, betters stocks its selection of choices, and gives normal portion sizes comparative to other branches. read more

In anticipation of the gluttony about to ensue, Panera offers healthier options compared to most of what is available in the surrounding city. However, if you do want to spoil yourself they do have plenty of nice pastries that are definitely decadent but also worth eating. This location has made it super convenient for those who are on the go. First, it is right off the freeway exit. They also have a drive through. They even have digital kiosks so that you can submit your order. Plus, if you want to skip the line, you can order ahead through their app. The location does offer free Wi-Fi. Everytime I have gone the service is fast and friendly. Make sure to sign up for the Panera Rewards program to collect points. Overall, this Panera is a nice convenient spot worth visiting especially if you are already fan of Panera. read more

I don't expect much from Panera in general and I expected even less for a pitstop on the way to Vegas but this Panera, and possibly the chain as a whole, managed to impress me. It seems that Panera has finally made an improvement to their turkey selection. I didn't care for the smoked turkey that they used to serve and was pleased to see the new roasted turkey as an option on the menu. It was so much better! There was a line at the counter around 6 PM on a Friday night but there are some handy ordering machines that let you 1) skip the line and 2) customize your order. I especially enjoyed the second feature as I'm constantly asking to remove things, like onions, from my sandwiches or switch the type of bread or cheese. The machine made it very easy to make these changes and clearly stated whether or not there was an additional charge. Once the order was placed, we waited to pick it up at the order window near the restrooms and found the whole process to work very well. If other Panera's are following suit with the roasted turkey and the order machines, I may have to make them a regular stop again. read more

This cafe always feels so at-home. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. And by far the cleanest bathrooms I've encountered in a Panera. The fresh smell of breads and cookies always entice me after my meal! This is definitely a little hidden gem in Barstow on our way to Vegas. read more

The service was horrible. I ordered Mac and Cheese, a salad, and a soup. The order took over 30 minutes. This place has a drive-Thru too. I don't know how they can run a drive thru if the wait is so long. Every time I asked my my order. I get the answer that there are many other people waiting too. Not to be self-centered, I only care about my order. I have three hungry kids. They could at least tried to get Mac and Cheese for my kids first. It is not like they make the Mac and cheese to order. Panera remains fairly consistent amongst all the locations. I find that the food is reliable when you are in an unfamiliar area. I was on my way to Las Vegas and just wanted a bite to eat after traveling for a few hours. I ordered the black bean soup and kale salad combo. It was cool. The portions are not small but they're not big either. They're just ok. If you're feeling really hungry you may want to double up and order more. Upon arrival, my friend and I did not receive a welcome and there were two employees in the entrance area. My friend and I looked at the menu for a really long time and the girl working did not look friendly or eager to help, we had to figure everything on the menu out ourselves. When we finally decided to order, the girl at the register seemed irritated, angry and treated us like we were idiots and seemed to treat my friend like nothing as she said that she did not know what she was talking about when she was trying to order. Instead of assistance, we received sass. Approaching the drink station, everything seemed fine until we noticed the bottle of cleaning liquid and a wet rag just left on the bar, which is hazardous and definitely not standard. I decided to go out of my way and take the cleaning supplies to the nearest employee and I let her know that I found the rag and bleach (or whatever it was). When I handed it to her, I received, "Oh they were probably cleaning." And as soon as I turned around, my friend noticed that she rolled her eyes at me and began to talk. The food was good, but when I saw my kettle chips, I remembered they register girl did not give me the option on apple, chips or bread. The food is good, but I would much rather go to a different restaurant where everything is up to standard, safe and I am treated kindly. I did not even receive a smile. read more

We had our evening meal at panera is behind a Chipotle and the parking lots are kind of a puzzle. It was about 6 o'clock and traffic was insane as usual around the I 15 intersection. No that has nothing to do with panera it's just a function of the location. We were quite please the line was very short and we were able to get our order in and return back to us what I would consider prompt especially when there were all kinds of Togo orders being placed on the Web And the staff was working their tails off in order to deliver everything as fast as possible. They were even thrown in free cookies for everybody due to the wait they knew it was not as fast as people wanted but it was just fine. Now some might complain about the wait and downgrade their Review. I like to look at the situation and see how they handled it and judge from there. So these guys did great the food was excellent the soup was very nice and we were happy. The Turkey avocado sandwich was just right I gotta say I really like. I stopped here on my way home from Vegas. I ordered from the kiosk. I chose a pick two. Chicken Noodle soup and Asian Chicken salad with extra avocado and a baguette. I indicated I wanted a printed receipt, but apparently the kiosk doesn't print receipts. When I went to retrieve my food, the person working on this side of the window disappeared. The person behind the counter kept trying to give me someone else's food. I told her what I ordered and that I needed my receipt. She looked at the receipt on the wrong food several times, and kept putting it back like it wasn't mine. Then she came out to the other side where I was and looked around. She said she didn't know where the other woman put my receipt. She again looked at the one on the other food and I saw my name. I looked at the receipt and told her it was mine. Now that I had my food and receipt, I found a place to sit. My soup was bland, clearly from a can and COLD! My baguette was cold and there was no butter on my plate, nor by the condiments. There were a few pieces of avocado on my salad, but certainly not enough to be called extra. There were no workers in the dining area, and in order to complain and get hot soup I would have to gather all my belongings, food and drink and go to the counter. Because the soup was bad, hot or cold, I didn't bother. I used to go to Panera several times a week in San Luis Obispo. This was when you ordered from a person at the counter and someone delivered your food to your table. If there was a problem, there were plenty of people working in the dining room to get help from. I was very disappointed. I can't believe a place that is famous for their soup serves soup from a can. And I'm sick of automation. There needs to be human care provided.
