If you're in the mood for something besides fast food and gas station snacks, Peggy Sue's is a great alternative. Originally built in the 1950s, the current owners reopened it in 1981 and have preserved much of its original charm and character. The original diner, with just three booths and nine counter stools, is still part of the restaurant, though it has since expanded to include several dining rooms and a souvenir shop. The menu focuses on classic diner fare and comfort food. Our breakfast came out quickly and the portions were just right. Our favorite part of the stop was discovering the dinosaur park behind the building. It's surrounded by a moat that feeds into ponds filled with turtles of all sizes. The kids counted at least 50 of them, and we ended up staying for a good half hour enjoying the scene. It turned what could have been a quick meal into one of the most memorable rest stops on our six-hour drive from San Diego to Las Vegas. We popped into Peggy Sue's Diner on our way to Las Vegas, and it hit the spot. It was one of those places, I'd see every time we would drive there and say, let's stop. Well, we never did until today. The place has that 1950's charm complete with checkered floors, and a yellow brick road. It was absolutely packed, and they still managed to get our food to us quickly with flawless service. I ordered the two eggs with sourdough toast, and hash browns. The eggs were scrambled to a light and fluffy consistency, and the hash browns were golden brown outside with a soft interior. Not to mention my mug of coffee was never empty. I also ordered the strawberry rhubarb pie "à la mode" and it was yummy. I'll describe it as the ultimate sweet, tart dessert that reminded me of a strawberry milk shake. The jammy sweetness of ripe strawberries was perfectly balanced with the buttery crust and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This was the cherry on top to my breakfast. I don't know what it was but wow, Monday morning and this place was packed. I'm used to the weekend being packed but I guess even the weekdays this place is happening. Of course it's always a must for us to stop by on the way to or from Vegas's. Parking situation, there's loads of parking which you can already tell when we arrived that it was busy. We did have our pup with us which they do accommodate service animal. The only downfall, you cannot feed them even water. We normally like the main dining area just past the cashier area. Pretty much all the tables were occupied except one. Some did still needed cleaning but we got the one available. Seat yourself and then menus are brought out. I have my usual plates that I alway get but it does take a little longer than usual for the fried chicken meal. Plus it was early in the morning...lol... We all opted for something fast, breakfast. My chicken fried steak with hash browns, and eggs. It also comes with either toast, English muffins or biscuits and gravy. I've alway like this dish but today, it was a little chewy. The other breakfast was great. And the grilled tuna sandwich, with two sides. We went with onion rings which is an additional fee and some curly fries. Sandwich is simple but tasty. My family and I were visiting this restaurant for the first time, and our only thought after breakfast was, 'What took us so long to visit?' We have driven past this restaurant just off the 15 freeway on our way to and from Las Vegas, but we never stopped until now. This place feels like a trip back in time, with pictures, paintings, memorabilia, and music from the 1950s. You can't walk a few inches without noticing something else related to music or old Hollywood on every inch of the walls and ceiling. The vibe here is overwhelming yet fun and nostalgic. The servers are all dressed in 1950s waitress uniforms, the menu is simple and affordable, and the food is very tasty and fresh. There's a huge gift shop near the entrance to the restaurant that offers just about anything you can think of when it comes to Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and many other stars of the 1950s. You won't be able to miss the roadsigns to Peggy Sue's. The place is HUGE, so don't be put-off by a full parking lot. It's laid back (sit your butt down) and kinda of a maze inside. The menu is full comfort food - don't expect anything fancy. Most of what we had was pre-packaged food (potato salad, salad mix, coleslaw) which was a bit disappointing. The food was good, healthy portions. Servers were very nice. Whoa - to those on a special diet; you won't find any of those here. We took a little break from our long journey back home. We decided to try this place out since they had a ton of signs along the freeway. There's plenty of parking available. I take the parking situation seriously LOL. Definitely a diner vibe going on here. The service was good but not great. I ordered a lemonade but I was grossed out because there was a lipstick stain on my plastic coke cup. That was a major turn off for me. I didn't even bother asking for a new cup. My sandwich was good and the onion rings were good but they were all clumped together which made it hard to enjoy. The cherry milkshake was good. We've passed by Peggie Sue's Diner many times, actually. Even when we were driving from Vegas to Southern California & back when we lived there (3.5hr drive. Of course we would drive.) As soon as we parked, looking at the building up close was amazing. I actually forgot where I was going to, not realizing it made sense it was so colorful. (50's themed Diner duh. lol) Wow, the juke box as the entrance was a nice touch. Loved that automatically. When you walk in, it's immediately filled with 50's decoration & objects around. This place is a 50's style diner with movie memorability throughout. They also have a small pizza place in the back. The gift shop has tons of Disney collectibles and figures, various kchotckes, souvenir magnets and stuff. Also they have various unique flavors in bottles sodas and they scoop Thrift ice cream. Outside in the back they have some dinosaurs made of metal and a King Kong. They have some ponds with super green colored water. They have a wall to create a waterfall. They have a stage area that doesn't look like it gets used. The dino shop looks permanently closed. They have a couple of tables that you can sit and enjoy the scenery. Snapping turtles are in the pond and several ducks were around. Not sure why the water is so green though, it's kind of off putting. Anyhow, when we entered we went to the right and followed the yellow "brick" road to the back dining room. The first room is a counter service area with a couple of booths. The next room is a dark looking room with tables and then the larger and bright dining room. If you go further you get the pizza place. If we had gone left upon entry, that would be the gift shop and ice cream area. Their menu is cute and movie themed with comfort food selections. Since we were not too hungry we decided to share the chicken friend steak and 2 eggs with hash browns and sourdough toast. Love that they offer orange marmalade jelly. Our server was very pleasant and food came out quickly. The chicken fried steak was a decent size and was flavorful. Wish it had a bit more gravy though. The hash browns were cooked perfectly. I live that they serve whipped butter for the toast. It was super easy to spread! The food was so delicious that I forgot to take a picture of it. Eggs were cooked perfectly. I had a fairly neutral experience at Peggy Sue's. I could have done without stopping here, but I also did not have a bad experience. Overall, I think I expected a bit more, although nothing was necessarily wrong. The diner was decorated throughout, but the theme did not strongly read as 1950s to me. At first glance, I could have mistaken it for more of a dive-bar-style spot, though the staff uniforms were a nice touch. The food was average overall. I tried the "Huell Howser" burger, which includes honey ham and pineapple on a cheeseburger. It was okay, but the pineapple was only one ring, so the flavor did not come through in every bite, and the ham did not stand out much either. I also tried the "King Kong Monster Burger," which was smaller than I expected based on the name and looked more like a standard double-patty burger. The curly fries tasted a bit undercooked and were not my favorite. Surprisingly, the side salad with their house-made ranch was one of the highlights. The ranch was buttery and flavorful. The candy store/souvenir shop on the other side of the building was less impressive than I hoped, much of it felt like mass-produced merchandise rather than vintage or unique finds. Sunday, 3-29-2026: We stopped here for dinner on our way to Las Vegas. Upon entering you don't need to wait to be seated, you seat yourself. There are 3 or 4 dining rooms to choose from. This restaurant certainly was larger than it looked from the outside. It is adorned with movie and character memorabilia that is interesting, fun, and kitschy. You never know what you'll find around the corner. We settled at a table in one of the dining rooms that had wall decor depicting Lucy & Ricky, Elvis, and other famous stars of yesteryear, etc. Our exuberant server gave us an extensive menu. She was sweet, friendly, and very attentive. Their waitress uniform capture the past very well. It's so cute & appropriate for the vibe they've established. The food came out quick & hot. It's classic comfort food that is hearty & done well. We definitely enjoyed our stop here and leaving full. We were given a ticket to get a free tootsie roll from their ice cream & gift shop. The gift shop is full of unique souvenirs and trinkets. It was fun browsing but had to be on our way. We plan on returning. Wow passed this for years always said we were gonna stop and we finally did! It's so big inside and had photo memorabilia from so many movies and movie stars along with pictures of Peggy Sue with some of them! I love Lucy walk. Elvis, blues brothers, wizard of oz. Each dining area is different too. Nice store as well but expect tourist prices but they do have some unique things. I like the John Wayne shirts. The bacon was cooked perfectly, just the way we like it, and the coffee... OMG! It was hot, rich, strong, and so good. What made our visit even more memorable was our amazing server, Marie. The sign at the entrance said "Seat Yourself," yet a waitress yelled at us for choosing a table. She continued speaking loudly in front of other customers, which was very unprofessional and uncomfortable. Many tables were left dirty and weren't being cleaned, and the restrooms were also dirty and poorly maintained. It was a very disappointing experience compared to our first visit. On the road to Las Vegas from southern CA, you'll see an icon. Peggy Sue's 50s Diner has been a long-standing landmark on the journey between the 2 cities. Even though I've passed it dozens of times, last week was the first time ever stopping and dining here. The place is a kitschy, throwback paradise filled with all things nostalgia. The gift shop is a blast. From shirts to purses to figures, and even old-style candy. The restaurant is busy, but our wait time was only about 10 minutes. The staff are friendly and super fast. And the food- OMG! The menu is old school with staples like burgers, chicken, pork chops, and meatloaf. We decided to lean into the nostalgia and order the meatloaf. For the sides, we chose mashed potatoes and corn bread. The meatloaf is hands down the best I've ever had. Ever. The whole meal was excellent. I said "can we sit at the counter?"which was empty except for two people. She tells a man "go seat them at the end". The diner is a few turns as soon as you exit the highway. We went on a Sunday morning and the diner was pretty crowded. It looked like they had a old car meet-up going on in the other side of the parking lot, which was cool. When you go into the restaurant, you will find all kinds of cool pictures and old memorabilia from over the years! It was really cool seeing all of the pictures of Peggy Sue with different stars across the years. The only thing we didn't like was the vibe of the customers that were there. They all seemed very snobby and stuck-up. Not welcoming at all, but we just kept to ourselves and tried to enjoy our time there! We got a table pretty fast but while observing their seating process it seems like they have specific tables set aside for specific party sizes and will not seat you unless you are an exact fit to that number to maximize their space. Our server was very nice, she checked on us a few times throughout our time there. We ordered the Mockingbird Hill Breakfast which came with two eggs any style, with a choice of hashbrowns/ sliced tomatoes/ or cottage cheese, and your choice of toast/English muffin/ or biscuit and gravy. You van also opt in to adding meat to this breakfast and I chose bacon! My wife ordered the Travelers Special that came with eggs and style, 2 pancakes or French toast, and 3 bacon or sausage links. Our food came out VERY fast, I want to say it was less than 5 minutes from placing our order. The food looked really yummy but I honestly wouldn't give it a over the top rating, to me it is very average diner food. It was a yummy breakfast to fill us up on our other half of the trip to Vegas! Recommendations when visiting: Weekdays are probably going to be less crowded. Take some time to look around the restaurant, there are so many photos to see. There is a small gift shop to the left when entering, we did not check out but if you are visiting, this may be something to check out. This diner is filled with memorabilia from the 1950's and Hollywood. Plenty of 50's music to enjoy while dining. There are multiple dining rooms, so if you walk in and it's busy, a sign asks to seat yourself.. I just wished there could have been a hostess to help seat guests. When we arrived it was very busy and as we navigated through the restaurant, every room was packed and since we didn't know the layout of this establishment, we felt like we had to make our way through a maze of multiple dining rooms before we found an open table. This place is big. Once we were seated, the staff was friendly and efficient. Our server, Ashley took our orders and delivered our food with a smile, constantly checking on us. She did a great job. We've driven by this place a hundred times and finally decided to stop in on our way home from Nevada. The place was quite busy and we were quoted a 30+ min wait. We walked around and our table was ready within 10 mins! We got a great seat at the diner bar and were assisted by Connie. She's recommended the banana split cream pie and it was delicious! I wish I would have taken a photo but we devoured it. The staff really seem to love their jobs. I really was invested in just watching all the fast paced orders coming in and watching the waitresses make so many customers smile and laugh. We will definitely be coming back here!
