Studying social research and policy while enjoying breakfast...
    Milo B.

This Illy Philly has to study and work, and I needed a space that I wouldn't be rushed out of, so I headed to Panera in Robinson, near Walmart, to get my work done. I ordered the squash soup with the non dairy green passion smoothie, and they were both delicous. Panera is great because they're open till 8 0n Sundays and for the most part is relatively quiet

    Half bowl of soup.

They offer a cup or bowl of soup. I ordered a bowl as it was all I was having for lunch. The bowl was half empty and the friend I was with got a cup and it was full. I was charged for a bowl and got less then a cup of underwhelming soup. Your handed a cheap plastic spoon to eat with. When you pay, you are asked how much of a tip you want to add to the check. I always tip 20% to 25% for service, but what service are they providing? You order at the register, pick up you food at the counter, and clean up your table when you leave. McDonalds brings you food to the table, sad Panera Bread provides less service then McDonalds and asks for a tip. I'm certainly not eating at Panera again.

Plastic In my French onion soup

Found a piece of plastic in my French onion soup. This location is pretty rough, you are probably better off going elsewhere.

    Pulled Pork Barbecue sandwich
    Foodie F.

Got their pulled pork half sandwich to dine in. Opened box and this is what it looks and tastes like. Need I say more?

This is the 'steak' sandwich. I chose not to get the pickled onions, but c'mon.

Coffee hardly ever filled, mixed with cream empty half the time. The attitude of about 30% of staff, thank God for the nice ones.

Solely staffed by people under 17. This is the slowest place I've ever been and will not be returning.

The burrata was beautifully plated and perfect on its own with just a fork, no bread needed. But let me go back a second to the cocktail I ordered. The Green genie was light and refreshing. Maybe not your typical December drink but I was intrigued by the pineapple basil infused lemonade. Not a sweet drink kinda girl, I will say this was perfectly balanced and definitely not too sweet. That hint of basil came through in every sip! Definitely recommend. The brisket with mashed potatoes, and vegetables was plated so uniquely- truly a pleasure to behold for the senses. Now for the taste... tender and lightly smoked. The BBQ sauce is a delicious compliment and not overpowering. I decided that it was impossible to choose desserts so I ordered both the honey cake AND the hidden gem. People!! Save room for dessert! The hidden gem is a fun dessert and the pistachio filling is creamy and light. The honey cake is gorgeous, light and the layers are just perfectly even. I would liken it to a crepe cake. My kids will be happy I'm bringing them home a taste of it! The attention to detail, the cocktails, music and the flavor of the food at the Owl's Nest is definitely worth seeking out for lunch or dinner.

There is some seating inside, but it's mostly a takeout joint. Also note that the parking is a little awkward, with some level of uncertainty around whether you might be blocked in. Other than that, this seems like a pleasant and well-run establishment. Our order was ready to go exactly when it was expected to be. In terms of the food, almost everything was fantastic. The salad rolls (fresh rolls) were excellent. A nice combination of flavors and textures, with just enough basil and lettuce flavor and crunch. The accompanying dipping sauce was equally good. The rolls also look significantly better than the photos on the web site. The tom yum soup was equally flavorful and well crafted. I generally stand at the ready with extra fish sauce and a squeeze of lime, but that was completely unnecessary here. The papaya salad was a bit of a miss, and the woon sen pad Thai was as well. Both seemed a little flat and in need of extra flavor. The red curry and sweet and sour stir fry were both excellent. Taken as a whole, everything was great. We opted for spiciness levels between 6 and 8 for various items, and that seemed like a good range for us. All told, this is an excellent destination. It's not the world's most convenient location, but it's among the better Thai restaurants I've tried in Pittsburgh. Well worth checking out.
