French Dip
Ellen K.

I made reservations as the restaurant had a 45-minute wait during peak lunch in late December. My dining companion loved the French Dip and will very likely be a returning diner. My salmon was not cooked to my preferred doneness. But we waited 30 minutes for our meals so I didn't want to send it back to the kitchen and wait even longer. Our table was a comfortable booth with a view of the parking lot before sitting down. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'll chalk it up to them being very busy that our table wasn't perfectly clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a comfortable temperature, not loud at all, and nice lighting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I have heard mumblings about this place but finally got to try it for lunch with my family today. We had a reservation but when I arrived the hostess let me know that they had a 15 min wait. This was a little frustrating as we had reservation, and even after I clarified that she knew we had reservations we had to wait a bit. She was telling everyone else that walked up the same 15 min delay, and then people who did not have a reservation were getting seated before us 15 minutes after our reservation time. So not sure why you even bother with reservations if that is the case. Overall not a huge deal but I do think folks with reservations should get seated before walk ups. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The cafe/restaurant itself is very cozy but upscale.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have a great menu with surprisingly fresh and seasonal ingredients. The food was all delicious. We had the tomato soup (very good), the lobster bisque (not my personal favorite but it wasn't bad), the soup of the day was a turkey chili which was fantastic, the garlic ciabatta (very good) and the cheddar chive biscuit (also very tasty). Our table had a steak salad which was great, the French dip and fries which were also great, the shrimp pomodoro pasta which was not everyones favorite but I thought it was good, and the shrimp arugula salad. The polenta croutons on the shrimp salad were great but overall the salad was under seasoned. We also got a side of truffle fries to try which were great. I would definitely go back and try their risotto dish or one of the pizzas which sounded great. Our server was not bad, friendly but seemed frustrated and annoyed but how busy he was. We had to ask a few times for certain things. Overall I look forward to coming back and trying more of their menu!

Hidden gem. Most people would not be in a hurry to dine in a department store, but this place is quite a delight. From the welcoming hostess to the waiter that was on top of everything - this was a great experience. Now let's talk food - delicious!!! Definitely pleasantly surprised! The lamb chops were done perfectly. The skirt steak was flavorful. The lemon chicken gnocchi was delightful. We will be back!

Korean beef tacos

I've come here many times during my shopping trips, and I am never disappointed. Service is always very kind, the food is wonderful, and (this is something I don't normally care about) the booths are so comfortable. The menu is very diverse, and there's always something you can find even if you aren't craving anything in particular. Today I ordered the Korean beef tacos and they were phenomenal; I'd absolutely get them again. My mom ordered the Chinese chicken salad, which is usually her favorite, but this time around the mandarin oranges were near rotten, so that kind of ruined her meal. They had a grilled lemon pound cake dessert on the specials menu today and all I can say is it was totally worth it. We love coming here when we visit Nordstrom's. We prefer it over Cheesecake Factory, CPK, and all of the other restaurant options at this mall because it's rarely busy and the food is consistently good, whereas those other chains are always hit or miss.

We've been going to this cafe in the Ross Park Mall's Nordstrom for years and have NEVER been disappointed. The last visit proved to be exemplary. I never take photos of food but, absolutely had to this time. We started with the clam chowder soup which was out of this world. The pepperoni, mushroom and thyme pizza was delicious as was the lemon chicken pesto gnocchi. We finished with the fabulous strawberry shortcake for dessert. Everything was amazing! The servers, chefs and manager are the best at what they do. Thank you - Megan, Christin and a shout out to Nick, as well. M&S

Blueberry Almond Cake with Vanilla Beans Ice Cream! Delicious!!!

"A secret" restaurant in the Roos Park Mall. As California was busy the night we wanted to dine out, we have decided to give it a try and we love it. It's located on the second floor of the Nordstrom store, all way to the bottom of the store. This restaurant gave us more privacy than other restaunt in the mall. There are a lot of people that come by themselves because there is an intimate and cozy atmosphere. I really recommend their Margarita Pizza and their Blueberry Almond Cake. It's so delicious. Definitely, I would come back again to try other options. For those who drink and it's a good place for wine.

Organic African Nectar hot tea and tomato soup

I didn't know the place existed at 2nd level in Ross Park Mall in Nordstrom in Pittsburgh. Nicely hide away in the mall. As starter Roma Tomatoes Basil Soup. Loved the Organic steak salad and the Organic African Nectar Tea goes well with the cold weather outside. Give me the privacy I needed. Just chilly. Have Me time. Definitely coming back. The place is pack. I still got my service. Dessert Chocolate covered strawberry cake jar. Chocolate cake, strawberry sauce, chocolate ganache, and fresh whipped cream

Butternut Squash Soup
Tina B.

Our first time dining here, my husband and I didn't really know what to expect. But we learned that you order at the counter, pick a table and a server brings out your food when it's ready. We went with the Soup Du Jour which was a butternut squash soup at the time, a Blue Cheese & Pear Salad and a Cranberry Turkey sandwich. The cafe itself is quite dark and mostly the tables are lit. The atmosphere (and also the food) reminded me of an upscale Panera Bread. The food was simple, yet well put together. It was what you would expect from a cafe, but a hair fancier than your average cafe. The soup was rich, creamy and even included a garlic toast. The Blue Cheese & Pear Salad was good, but very sweet. Also, they were generous with the blue cheese, which got to be too strong at times. The sandwich tasted fresh and the bread was a bit crunchy on the outside, adding a nice contrast in textures. You really can't go wrong with the combo of turkey and cranberry. Overall, this may be our stop to grab a bite any time we are in Ross Park Mall. Good, fresh food. Nice experience.

Shrimp & Arugula Salad
Julie D.

BJ discovered this cute little cafe on one of our shopping trips. We have dined here several times and it's a nice change of pace. I was on a solo shopping trip on Saturday and was in the mood for by favorite salad. Grilled Shrimp & Arugula Salad with corn, grape tomatoes, grilled pieces of cheese and polenta croutons. I would love to be able to give a description of all the other great meals I eaten here. But I am a creature of habit. I always get the same thing. Service is always extra nice. My server yesterday had a cute accent and kept my glass full of iced tea. I really enjoy this spot.

You like traditional goto, must have, sandwich from Pittsburgh? If you do, this place is for you…read more This place was started by Joe Primanti in 1933 to feed shift workers from the local warehouses (coal and iron) and railroads. They are known for big sandwiches which now includes fries and cole slaw. The sandwiches provided value to workers...who were looking for a place to feed themselves to keep their energy up for a long shift. When you sit at the bar and you can only imagine the workers that sat here to feed themselves with what little they had. They found a sandwich between two pieces of soft Italian bread with a good balance of meat, cheese, cole slaw and fries...think energy and value. The history here is real and intense. Would I rate this as a culinary destination? Not particularly but I would say it's a must see to be part of US history as the town righted itself and came to life. The sandwich? I had the pastrami with cole slaw, egg, fries and tomato on Italian bread. Remarkably, the sandwich was light...despite it sounding heavy. The cabbage and tomatoes bring a great balance to the sandwich which makes it messy and remarkably light. Be prepared to get messy..so eat fast! I am probably talking too much about the sandwich...just go try it. The food is probably a 3.5 but it gets the extra .5 for the amazing history there. The service was great...well educated on the product, accommodating in every way. If you are in Pittsburgh, this is a must try.

I had to go across the street to use the restroom because theirs were nasty. It required going down a steep set of stairs, and the women's bathroom floor was wet. There was also a bucket catching brown water dripping from somewhere, which was pretty concerning. The wings and onion rings were just average and didn't really stand out. There are newer locations of this restaurant that I'd recommend instead. Based on my experience, you'll likely have a much better overall visit at one of those locations

It's a proper neighborhood butcher shop on Butler Street, the kind of place that had mostly disappeared around here. They do whole animal butchery with meat sourced from local Pennsylvania farms, and you can feel how much the folks working there care about what they're doing. It's not a huge space, just a display case full of cuts, a wall of house made goods, and a small sandwich menu, but that's part of the charm. The staff were friendly and happy to point me in the right direction. The sandwiches are what really got me though. The smash burger is fantastic, a double patty on a challah bun with that special sauce, and you can actually taste the quality of the beef, which makes sense given the whole operation is built around good meat. I also grabbed some of their house made pastrami, and it did not disappoint, tender and full of flavor. Knowing everything is made in house, right down to the bacon and sausages, makes it even better. If you live nearby and don't have a butcher yet, this is the one.

Love the decor in the shop. There were many prepared food options in the fridge, as well as various cuts of meat/preparations of it. We got two sandwiches, the cheesesteak and the marbella. I dont think we ended up with the correct order because we didn't end up with a cheesesteak, but did not realize until we got home. I'm positive that if I went back to the shop they would've remedied the situation, but I didn't feel it was necessary! The sandwich we did end up with was good as well, unsure which one it was though. Very fair prices, and our dog was so happy we brought him home a bone as well! Looking forward to coming back and trying everything they have to offer.
