These guys take it to whole nother level, with literally nine signs on their door. And dozens more inside. -if you break it you buy it. -must leave your backpack at the front counter. -young visitors must be with an adult while in the store. -no food or drink. -you will be arrested if you shoplift. -all activities monitored by close circuit, television and undercover security -credit card processing fee 3% (Jackhole policy btw) -no pets within 10 feet of the front door -no smoking in the building - no public restroom ( so you want people to shop and spend money, but if they have to take a pee, they can't do it?! Such a unique experience! This is always one of the first places I take people who are from out of town. The space is massive, which a bunch of individual vendors inside. You can truly get anything from tourist trinkets to vintage dresses. Co-ops in general are just awesome, and this is no exception! The prices are also great. A lot of the stalls have handmade items. Okay this place has something for everyone! When my husband and I walked in with out dog the team were so nice and friendly which really made us feel welcomed. Again this place has something for everyone, from skin care to vinyls, quirky dad hats, Christmas ornaments and seashells. As a vendor I would remove my items from this store- they are scaring away your customers! Workers asked me to hand them my purse the minute I stepped in. Mind you, I am dressed nicely and nothing could have prompted this other than the fact I am fitting some kind of profile. After walking around I realized EVERYONE else had their handbag. It was so off putting I put down the items I had planned to purchase (around $200) and asked for my purse back to leave. Workers are not friendly and I've been coming here since 2020, but never again for gifts after this very unwelcoming, egregious visit. The last few times I've been in, this hasn't happened and it was with the care of older, mature ladies at the register. There was a lot of cool stuff that I would have loved to purchase. Beware the bag policy. It is not consistently applied to everyone throughout the store. I had one employee following me around and another employee made a couple passes past me (ignoring other people with bags near me), then they finally approached me and told me that my bag was too large. As she said that, I noticed a few others with large bags around me. I decided to wait for my girlfriend outside. While waiting outside, I noticed two other people walk in with giant totes that they didn't prioritize and track down with the intensity that they approached me. read more

I've been shopping with you probably for 20 years. It is my go to place for my daughter and gifts for all of my relatives. I went in there today with my daughter. I was told to leave a diaper bag and check it in. Are you kidding me? My daughter needed the formula as she was walking around with her baby. I'm not leaving a diaper bag there when she could have an emergency and need it. And if you are checking peoples bags, what stops them for saying when they return that $1000 is missing in their bag? You guys are really setting yourself up for a legal issue. Too bad the store was well stocked. And by the way, two other people walked out when they found out they had to check their bags as well. A lot of fun to shop! These are different business put together under one roof! I love the concept of supporting small businesses. I was in the area for an appointment and saw this place. I looked at the windows and it was pretty appealing, which led me inside. The girl who checked me out said they have about 50-60 different vendors at a time. So basically, you can come shop and there will be something for everyone. I seen house goods, clothing, shoes, toys, kids stuff, bags, incense, bath stuff.. just all around everything. The store changes as well as vendors continue to update their items for sale. This might be my new favorite store! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Me and my daughter were shopping around while my husband was at a business lunch. We decided to come into this store and immediately I saw a mermaid doll I knew my daughter would love. I first checked the price to make sure it wasn't outrageous in price since sometimes stores can have high priced dolls. Seeing the price I thought perfect and let her see it. She of course fell in love with it and was sooo gentle. I snapped a picture and texted her dad "we're getting a new doll". And started heading towards the front while also browsing for something for myself. How my daughter was being with it was so cute and so sweet that I then had to FaceTime my sister. Where my daughter showed her aunt the doll so gently and sweetly we were both cooing at how cute she was and how of course I have to get it for her. That's when the sweetness ended. As I was showing her aunt an employee came up and said are you buying that? I was a little confused and answered "yes I think so" kind of skeptical on where this conversation was going, if maybe she thought I was trying to steal it, or maybe someone else really had wanted it.. she then went on saying she's not allowed to be holding the doll because of the hair getting messed up and it will make other kids not want to buy it. She then proceeded to take the doll from us and walk away. And as she was walking away I said "well I was going to buy it but I guess now I'm not?" She said nothing, never once offered to take the doll to the front for us to purchase. Just took the doll from my daughter and I rudely and put it back where we got it from. Of course resulting in some tears from my daughter and my sister on FaceTime utterly shocked she just witnessed this. Apparently I must look like I can't afford to buy a $29 doll for my daughter? If I was the vendor in this store I would be very upset someone ruined a perfect sale for me and was rude while doing it. Made me look up the doll and find it for half price on Amazon. Really hope people can be kinder and instead of taking items from people at least offer to bring it up front and politely say it's just in case you change your mind we don't want the doll to get ruined... but also if you are scared of things getting ruined in a store, lock them up and immediately take them to the front when someone asks to purchase. It's kids toys for crying out loud. My husband when I told him wanted to go back and get the older ladies name, but I was way too embarrassed and now really wish I would have let him because I still feel upset by the altercation hours later. read more

Pangea Outpost was a good choice and air conditioned, so it provided some much needed cool from the outside heat. There were many vendors and the depth of product was amazing: lots of different vendors and offerings. You had to check your bag - backpack in before shopping. Pangea is a cute spot with some cool vendors. The staff were nice. I can't give 5 stars because one of the vendors was selling blatant AI generated art. That was incredibly disappointing to see. There was also a piece being sold that displayed a skull wearing a Native American headdress. History should be remembered - harmful imagery should not be used to make a profit. As someone who doesn't fit a certain "look" and speaks with an accent, the profiling was clear. The security guard's behavior--crowding my space and making me feel unsafe--was unacceptable. This place has so much to offer, I could spend hours and hours here. I love the selection, and I think it's really cool how they set up different areas for you to explore. There's a mixture of local artists work, and brands you could find online or at other retailers like Kikkerland (which seems to be pretty popular at bookstores). They do an awesome job at creating a total vibe, and I usually find myself filling up at least one basket. Only thing is I think it's a bit pricey, but it's super fun to browse through their store. This is one of those stores you visit multiple times always wanting to leave having purchased something but you just couldn't get yourself to do it. They have everything! If you're looking for any kind of small gift for bachelorette parties, weddings, house warming, birthdays, etc. they've got great creative options galore and borderline affordable pricing. They're not your typical tourist shop with a million variations of San Diego branded attire, but they do have local signage, shell variations, and things of that nature. My favorite things they carry here are affordable, trendy planters for your desk, wall and ceilings, minimalist art and stickers, Billabong clothing, Pura Vida jewelry, Rainbow Sandals, funny candles, and a nice card selection. The store is huge so give yourself time to look over the variety. There is parking on Garnett right out front, if you're lucky. It's very closely located to the boardwalk, beach and pier too so if you're walking around those tourist shops on the boardwalk and don't find what you're looking for, take a little stroll over to Pangea up the road. I'm ashamed to never have purchased anything here but always enjoy my experiences looking through the selection. My main reason for not purchasing is because I never check luggage or want to pay to ship items home, and the thins I want to buy here are big items that are an amazing price for what they are but not worth the additional shipment. So locals, especially plant lovers, shop here for your more affordable planters and succulent decoratives before hitting shops like Pigment or even The Home Depot. read more

Every year my husband and I go to San Diego and one of our stops is always Pangaea Outpost. This store is huge and brimming over with unique finds. It is not your typical souvenir shop. Pangaea has artwork from local artists and from around the world as well. There are paintings by my favorite Encinitas painter, Alan Casagrandes which you must check out! There is jewelry, clothing, pottery, photography, windchimes, healing stones and all kinds of items that will call out to you to buy them. These are quality pieces that make great momentos of your time at the beach or gifts for those near and dear to you. Located on Garnet Avenue, this store is sure to have something you will want to take home. The staff is awesome as well. Liz, was especially a big help to me when I was recently completing a purchase. She went out of her way to make sure I got what I wanted. If all stores were like this, my credit card would melt. Staying in Pacific Beach, you really have lots of access to restaurants, sweet treats, shops, and stores here. This is a really cool store on Garnet (parking is in the back- look for the alley), that houses 80 shops (small businesses) under one roof. There were specialty seashells (we bought one), apparel, art pieces, children's items, novelty items, books, stuffed animals (sea themed), jewelry (in the front of the store), surf brands I liked, shoe brands I liked (in fact, I was wearing one of the brands sold here), recycled material pouches which I wanted. Lots of items here were very appealing to me. It's a very unique concept, but the lucky shoppers would be the winners, since there are so many possibilities! I really wanted to go back, but it closes early. We were there for a half hour but it really made an impression on me. Next time, we are going there early. I really love this store. There are a lot of unique clothing pieces and home goods. Employees were pretty friendly and welcoming. The stuff for sale is owned by independent artisans/clothes makers renting a space to sell here. Taking off one star because some of the clothes are very marked up. I paid $68 for a linen blend top, and found a similar top+bottoms of the same linen blend on Amazon for under $38 dollars. PB prices I suppose, or perhaps necessary to cover the space rent within Pangaea. It sucks that these costs are passed down to the customers. Expect to pay a lot for unique but middle quality clothes. At least it's far from fast fashion :) read more

I love this store. I feel like each time that I visit, I end up in a little bit of sensory overload. The store is set up with various booths or vendor spaces. Each one has their own mix.of merchandise. Some have art, jewelry, clothing, candles, books or theme items. For instance there is a whole section for mermaid lovers and ocean lovers. Prices vary by vendor and product. The store truly has a wide variety of items..which is great if your looking for gifts for someone or for yourself for anytime of year not just at Christmas. I typically end up buying some sort of hat or jewelry item with each visit. The staff is friendly. Parking is challenging since its PB. They have so much to look at, I spend at least 40 minutes in here if not more looking at at all the art, trinkets, jewelry, etc. The prices, are decent and they vary based on the items, more on the pricy side.
