Thoughtfully curated pieces here! An SD find that reminded me so much of shopping in Venice Beach. My boyfriend and I were down here from OC for a couple of days and went to one of my favorite stores Pigment. This was located directly across from it and we decided to check it out after I had seen it on Yelp. The whole store is our aesthetic and they carry great pieces like richer poorer, rhythm, knickerbocker, outerknown, vitruvi (essential oil diffuser). We're pretty familiar with these brands so the price point isn't really shocking to us, but I could see why it would be for some. The associate helping us out today was super friendly, I wish I got his name to give him a proper shoutout. Best part is the dressing rooms are open as my boyfriend loves to make sure his clothes fit just right, especially if he's going to make a pricier purchase. read more

The shop at Moniker has everything you need. Love all the brands they carry and the home goods are all unique. They make our home feel like home. If there is one thing I would recommend at the shop it's the candles. The candles smells amazing! It's pretty much a one stop shop for coolness. read more

I love finding new places to explore at Liberty . We stumbled across this quaint and open retail store after lunch at Officine which is a few doors down . Moniker is located by Liberty Market, breakfast republic , and Stone Brew. They carry a variety of items made in San Diego . There's clothes , bath products , bikes , hats , backpacks , blankets , etc. It's like Urban Outfitters but centered for adults . Prices aren't cheap . The suede hats were about $60. Backpack was $449. Friend said his architect dad would buy the backpack in a heartbeat because it's cool and chic. There's also one dressing room by cashier . Arissa, the one staff, was incredibly kind and knowledgeable . She pointed out the attached coffee house they also own and manage . She also showed us the side outdoor patio with a large communal table for all to share . I bought a bath soap for $8 upon her recommendation (and my budget ). I appreciated her help deciding between two soaps and her honesty with which one to purchase (the one I bought was cheaper !). This is a cute location and addition to this area. Can't wait to return to explore more items and then have coffee next door . read more

Moniker General is a trendy shop in Liberty Station, a sort of town center on the northern end of San Diego. I dropped in for a browse with my friends one afternoon last month when we were driving through town. It was a cool place, spacious and attractive, with more or less the same aesthetic as every other newish shop I've seen calling itself a general store. There was an area for coffee, and what looked like a full bar, so you can get drunk and go buy some sunglasses. There were some very cool sunglasses on display, as well as lots of nice leather goods, homewares, fragrances (Moniker carries my favorite perfume brand, MCMC), etc. The selection was well curated and on the expensive side. I saw several things I would've bought if I had an excuse to treat myself. Lots of great gift ideas, too. San Diego is, on the whole, a lot less hipster than L.A., and as much as we make fun of hipsters, they do tend to come with good coffee and booze and cute little stores. If I lived in San Diego, I'd probably do a lot of my gift shopping at Moniker General, and maybe come by for cocktails, too. read more

The Moniker General is part of an open space providing a variety of contemporary of house and personal items for the new age consumer. The open space is shared with a the Moniker Coffee shop and 32 North Brewing. The general store offers unique and comfortable furniture, quality clothing brands, area rugs, personal ornaments, functional kitchen items, and much more. The items for sale at this store each have a story to tell of its origins and purpose. I was surprise to see that they even had surf boards and bicycles and then I remembered, San Diego is quite the active city. It's a great little shop with unique gift items or something for the house. I've been through here several times, and once picking up a nice rustic towel set for a gift. I call Moniker General, "Manthropologie". Anthropologie's little brother, catering to the men in your life. I discovered this unique store when it hosted one of our Yelp Elite events. They offer a selection of unique leather pieces, candles, knick knacks, clothing, hats...you name it. And my co-habby's favorite: bicycles. He is an avid cycler when he has a moment but loves the vintage aesthetic to these bikes as well as the overall feel of Moniker General. Items are a bit pricey but quite exquisite so you definitely get quality pieces for your money. Bonus? They serve coffee and beer. So while my man shops, I get to look for a wife couch, sit, relax and enjoy a cold one. Everybody's happy! Friendly staff, great drinks and a nice place to chill. 4 stars. read more

It had been a while since I've experienced racial profiling but I guess it was my Day when I went into MG! I was there yesterday evening and was followed around the tiny store by the attendant the entire time. She was definitely not subtle. Thanks for making me feel unwelcome and racially profiled. Maybe put up cameras instead? Get some training? Or turn up the lights and maybe you'll be able to see more? Almost bought something just to prove I could, but you all don't deserve my money. I got a latte and the berry, cream cheese toast (don't remember the name) and banana bread for my 1 year old. My mom got a cappuccino and the gluten free lemon muffin. It was a bit pricey, the muffin wasn't great, the toast was lacking flavor (maybe the berries just aren't in season?), the banana bread was fabulous and the drinks were really good. All in all I probably wouldn't go back for the restaurant portion of the shop. read more

Great gift spot! A carefully curated general store offering everything from prescription and sunglasses, plants, denim, apparel, bikes, bags, and beautiful unique home wares. Practically everything in the store is for sale as the Moniker company designs and builds the furniture in the store. The staff is super helpful and eager to help if you need anything or have questions about the products. Lots of San Diego based brands but also a lot of national and international brands. Located in the heart of Liberty station. Came here for the coffee after having brunch at Breakfast Republic(5 stars) just across the way. Apparently it's also a Home Goods store and has a bar which is a cool concept if you want to meet a friend(s) for a drink(coffee or alcohol). Has a nice uncovered outdoor deck to lounge around with a few seats/tables etc. some indoor seating options inside of a beautiful coffee shop with a simple menu. I recommend! read more

We walked in as we were aimlessly walking around Liberty station since we were drawn to the modern clean aesthetic. They've got a bit of random books, decorative knick knacks but nothing that a still living as bachelor if it ain't broke don't fix it interior design philosophy would be too interested in. 4.5 stars! Minimalist dream! Nestled near the entrance of liberty station, this place is a very unique giftshop that doubles or actually triples as a coffee bar and cocktail place! So many different high quality items are for sale at also a high price and likely markup. That being said, it's still a perfect place to browse or pick up your favorite item, say a nice mug, notebook, clothing item, or even bag. If you're looking for expensive, unique giftware, this is probably a decent store to explore. We wandered in when were were in the Liberty Square area recently and there was a lot of high quality seeming items for sale. You could tell that this unique mix of items was well chosen and that people take care in creating these items. It reminded me of visiting some of the craft sales/markets in my home town but in a more permanent physical building. I'd definitely visit again if I'm in the area, especially if I'm looking for any of the particularly high-end items that they carry. read more

Do not shop in this store. It's overpriced, the customer service is terrible, and their return policy is archaic. I went in to do an even exchange for an item given to me as a gift that was bagged in their gift bag and still had a tag on it, and I was told that I had to know the date of the purchase so they could track down the original transaction. I'm supposed to ask my friend who gave me a gift for the receipt so I can exchange it? When I requested the name of the person who was helping me so I could complain to a manager, I was told they don't give out their names. I have never been to a store where the customer is treated like a criminal. Unreal! Don't support stores like this! read more

Great store in Liberty station with adjacent coffee shop and bar. A mixture of locally made product and just plain cool things. They have a denim bar, leather bags for men and women, socks, candles, key chains, bikes, and much much more!
