The atmosphere is also great it's very dark and romantic. It is a bit small but it makes it feel more private i love it here so much I wish there was one in south florida from Fort Lauderdale through boca Raton that would be amazing!! My friends and I were impressed by the vibes here as well as how knowledgeable and friendly the staff was. Best of all, the cocktails didn't break the bank. Really cool, creative drinks. We went around the block 3 times before heading down the alley. There was no one at the front when we arrived so we just walked right in. The interior was funky, but the smell was not inviting. Is it sewage, the alley, or wet socks? We sat against the wall which wasn't the most comfortable. Tucked away in an alley behind Main Street and not well marked...like you would imagine for a speakeasy. Great place for a late night bite and cocktail...they serve food until 1:45am. Such fantastic staff...Sebastian and Tyler were so personable and took the time to get to know the patrons. Kind of a younger crowd, but we were there after midnight. We ordered the smoked cheeseburger, which was perfectly done and topped with beer onions and arugula. The sir sazerac and lychee cocktails were delicious. No, no, nope...I know it was a Tuesday night, but I'm all about the customer experience...it was fun to go around to a back alley to find the entrance, and walk through the back area to find the Alchemy Lab. But it seemed it wasn't fun for the lovely brunette bartender with glasses to have customers. Maybe she was having a bad night or something else going on, but we didn't feel welcomed and she didn't seem impressed that we came a long way to visit the place, so left less than 10 min later. I think she was more into cleaning the place, which is still a good thing, right? So maybe they were closing soon...(Here I am giving the benefit of the doubt again) I'll post pics of the trek to the location and cool interior, but couldn't bring myself to have her make my drink let alone pay for it. Although, I was excited about going, checked out the website and menu prior, I'll never make my way back bc I'm not from Sarasota, but I don't think I'm missing out. Ended up going here two times in a week during my last vacation to Sarasota. Firs time was good, drinks were solid and had a great bartender. Had some friends in town the next weekend so thought I'd take them there. Unfortunately had a completely different experience. First round of drinks were ordered and I watched a bartender try and light the drink on fire for a solid minute with a blow torch. This ended up completely ruining the drink as it tasted like lighter fluid. When I mentioned it to the waiter he refused to have the drink remade or offer a different one. He even said that there was a similar complaint earlier! I would think if you're paying $16 for a cocktail that they would be considerate of this. I'm never the one to turn something back unless it's really really bad. Ended up getting espresso martinis which were not great. Also wait staff was rude to some of my friends. An absolute gem of a watering hole. We were in town for a wedding and stumbled upon The Alchemy Lab on a Friday night while exploring Downtown Sarasota. Located behind a nondescript door in a back alley, it opens up to a beautiful yet cozy modern speakeasy. On our first visit, we had a party of 4 which took about 30 minutes to seat on a Friday night at 10pm. We were fortunate enough to be seated at the bar, so we had a front row to the amazing mixologists creating all of the cocktails. We had several seasonal cocktails including Apple of my Aye Aye, Silk Road, Catdaddy Flip and Sir Sazerac with each being as fantastic as the previous. Cocktails were well thought out, creative and most importantly, balanced. We also opted to get some late night eats and indulged in the rabbit tacos and cheeseburger which were both fantastic. The entire staff at Alchemy Lab was also amazing. We had an incident occur nearby our party where a drunk individual spilled his drink on us as he was being asked to leave the bar. The staff noticed this and offered up a round of shots on the house for the inconvenience. Wasn't necessary, but definitely a nice gesture. Overall, this was probably our favorite bar in Sarasota for not only the drinks, but for the service! read more

Our server Sarah was very nice and had great recommendations for us. She thoroughly explained the menu which consists of permanent staple cocktails, rotating seasonal cocktails, as well as some of their food options. It's a smaller space, but I absolutely loved the atmosphere. We were there around 6 on a Friday and were the only people there, but within an hour it filled up quick! Man i think it's the coolest place in Sarasota to me as a tourist! Finding the "rare door" is a bit frustrating but also fun to know that it's a speakeasy with an adventurous spirit! They have a bunch of cool liquor that I've not seen in local liquor store and their drinks are between $10-12. If walking down the alley behind main street to enter Pangea makes you apprehensive (it's totally safe), then this is not for you. However, If you enjoy a hipster speakeasy atmosphere with expertly crafted cocktails, then this place is for you! We sampled everything from the Chia to the Froot Loops and all was delicious. And speaking of cereal, try one these concoctions to take you down memory lane (albeit maybe your Mom did not mix liquor in with your milk). Open 6pm to 2am for one of the most unique places in SRQ. Finding this place was kind of a struggle, we ran into a few other clueless looking people in the alley, and they were also looking for the entrance, which is in a creepy alley. This place is not just another martini bar! They have boy and girl drinks for everyone. Actually, most of their cocktails are manly in some way, there are only one or two girly drinks that are mild. Think of the drink menu as an international tour of flavors, if you will. Drinks with a spicy Latin kick, curry spiced drinks, and some drinks so strong that just one will put you down for the night. Average price of a beverage is about $10, but totally worth it considering you could only handle about two. The atmosphere is very intimate, with enclosed booths, and your choice to draw the curtain. Dark romantic lighting with moving wave effects will make you feel like you are drinking on the bottom of the ocean floor. Lan provides the finger foods, so a small snack menu is provided with decent pricing. I recommend the Duck Confit Eggrolls. read more

Though I have been here several times I have to say that it is the nastiest dive bar I have been to. It's too bad. Great people. Great concept. Poorly executed. Come for the drinks. You will be amazed. The other thing that it just terrible is you have to enter through the back alley near all of the dumpsters. When the front sandwich shop was open, you would have to tell them that you wanted to go to the bar which was behind a curtain. Well, I don't take people here any longer. AHHHHHH, It is a speakeasy. Like, legitimately! When you arrive and your GPS says "You are here" you will be confused. The restaurant you are standing in front of is called Monkey Business. We went in to inquire about where Pangea had moved. The server said we were at Pangea...but it says Monkey Business on the door we tell him...the Lounge is behind me he says mysteriously. Yep, there is a wall behind him and beyond that is a cozy little nook of a bar that has more cocktails than I can comprehend, beer, wine, and bizarre foods like brie butter, pork rind nachos, and manchez trio. The drinks are pricey- running about 10-12 bucks a pop, but the vibe is cool, the ambience matches, and you definitely feel like you are "in" when you sit down. I had the chai martini, a delectable cocktail that is dangerous-it tastes just like a chai without a trace of alcohol...but oh it is in there. I also ordered the brie butter. Oh my oh my, it is also dangerous- I could eat 10 plates of hat brie butter and the buttery French bread that goes along with it. My companions enjoyed the duck spring rolls and 5 layer dip with pork rinds and were equally ecstatic. They lose a star for service. Everyone was very nice, but the "oh, we're a speakeasy and you found us" vibe quickly wears thin when you have to wait 20 minutes for your first drink. One of our party was forgotten entirely, and we finally had to reorder. It was busy, but several servers were around and I don't think organizing who was actually taking care of which tables was something they had considered. Still, it was an overall delightful experience and I will certainly return. Insider Note: They have a concoction behind the bar called "Unicorn Taint Tincture." No, I am not kidding. From the descriptions labeling this establishment as a speakeasy, I was afraid it would be difficult to find. Honestly, we just followed the groups of people turning down the alley. We got in around 9pm and were seated at a table. It was just started to fill up around that time. I got an "At the beach" and got to add Gin to it (highly recommend that addition-it was delicious!). My bf got the Makuna matata and he loved it as well, especially since it was on fire-literally. We each also decided to try their cereals. We were a little skeptical about alcoholic cereal, but it was for naught as these nostalgic treats were grrrrrreat! We didn't have any issues with our server as mentioned in previous reviewers, but we were not seated at the bar. Our server was prompt and polite. I didn't expect to find so wonderful bar in the middle of Florida. It can be in New York or Hong Kong. It looks like secret place. There is no signs. The entrance is from the backyard. There is no something special in the interior but we came there to try cocktails and it was perfect.
